The Winter Olympic Games is a sporting event, which occurs every four years. The first celebration of the Winter Olympics was held in Chamonix, France, in 1924. The original sports were alpine and cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping and speed skating. The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games, or the 22nd Winter Olympics, is a major international multi-sport event scheduled to be celebrated from 7 to 23 February 2014, in Sochi, the Russian Federation with some events held in the resort town of Krasnaya Polyana. 2.3/5

Photographer Captures the Sochi Olympics With a 5×4 Camera Men’s bobsled competitors head down the track and the Sanki Sliding Center during the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, February 16, 2014. Two months after being in Sochi to cover the 2014 Winter Olympics, photographer Guy Rhodes is sharing some of the images he captured there. But they’re not just any images. They’re analog images. 5×4 images, to be exact. Using 34 sheets of Tri-X and a Crown Graphic 5×4 camera, Rhodes describes capturing the games with such a beast (while also shooting digital) as, “among the top experiences [in his] life.” As to why it’s taken him this long to get the images developed and scanned, he said the reason was two-fold. First, he’s been busy; paid gigs, of course, but busy nonetheless. Second, a lot of the photographs he captured didn’t live up to his expectations, a realization he came to when he finally scanned the images in. Vancouver - Fleetwood-Port Kells MP Nina Grewal today joined with Ski Jump Canada to reveal the roster for Canada’s Sochi 2014 Ski Jump Team. The four men: Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Dusty Korek, Trevor Morrice and Matthew Rowley; and three women: Atsuko Tanaka, Alexandra Pretorius and Taylor Henrich were named during an announcement at the Robson Square Ice Rink in Vancouver.   “What you have accomplished today is not an easy achievement and you must be commended for the hard work, training, and preparation you have endured to get where you are today,” said MP Grewal. “As a former trained gymnast and a follower of sports, I am honoured to join with Ski Jump Canada in revealing the 2014 Ski Jump Team that will represent Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.”   The 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be held from February 7 to 23 in Sochi, Russia where approximately 2800 athletes are expected to compete for gold medals.
