Manchester United Team News ahead of the trip to the Loftus Road this weekend!!! INJURY UPDATE!!! -Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie is a doubt for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash against QPR. -The Dutchman was withdrawn during the defeat to Southampton with an ankle injury but Louis Van Gaal has told MUTV this is only a minor problem, suggesting that his countryman could still be involved at Loftus Road. "It's not worse. Only Van Persie is maybe injured but it is a minor injury. I don't think it's a great problem." Louis Van Gaal. -Ashley Young remains in the treatment room with a hamstring strain which is likely to keep him out for a few more weeks. THE PREVIOUS MEETING!! -We meet again: United are unbeaten against QPR since New Year's Day 1992 and earlier this season the Reds strolled to a 4-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and maiden United strikes for Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria. .
Rival Watch!!! Chelsea suffer their second defeat of the season as they were Kane-d 5-3 at the White Hart Lane to leave them top of the league only by alphabetical order. We are only 9 points off the top. Elsewhere Arsenal were beaten 2-0 at St Mary's by Southampton who we face next in the league at Old Trafford. Everton were also beaten 2-0 at Hull City while Liverpool were pegged back by a spirited Leicester City fightback from 2 goals up at Anfield. Of all other remaining teams only Manchester City won though Sunderland deserved at least a draw, all other Premier League games ended in draws. With only 2 away wins out of 10 games, United need to get back to winning ways against The Saints on 11th January to firmly cement a top three spot. We obviously miss Ashley Young for some weeks due to a hamstring injury but hoping Fellaini, Rojo, Di Maria and Blind will be back in contention. Up next, away at Yeovil Town for the FA cup on Sunday, only a win is acceptable.
Ashley Young is the latest Manchester United player to pass comment about his sides 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day after a dominant display by the Red Devils. United have gained momentum extending their unbeaten run to eight matches with a tough away trip to White Hart Lane at lunchtime on Sunday on the horizon. It is imperative that United do not slip up at this stage, especially with another tough away trip against Stoke City on New Years Day. Young was another stand out player in the victory over Newcastle United operating in the wing-back position on the left-hand side on the flank, assisting United in ensuring that three points were the only eventuality from the match. The victory puts pressure on leaders Chelsea and second placed Manchester City, even though they are ten points and seven points clear, respectively, of the Old Trafford club. If United can unnerve their rivals with their dominant displays, the pressure of that could mean that either side will make mist ...
Manchester United recorded a fourth win in a row for the first time since December 2013 with a 2-1 triumph over Stoke City at a chilly Old Trafford on Tuesday night. Marouane Fellaini’s first-half header and Juan Mata’s free-kick - from which Marcos Rojo tried to claim a decisive touch - ensured the Reds collected another three points, although, not for the first time this season, an inspired moment from David De Gea was needed to safeguard the victory. Steven Nzonzi equalised for the Potters before the break and Mame Biram Diouf almost did the same, twice, in the dying seconds of the game but was thwarted by the Reds' no.1 and then an Ashley Young goal-line clearance. The absence of the injured Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria from United's team-sheet may have given the visitors a lift, but Asmir Begovic threatened to ruin a fairly trouble-free opening for Stoke with a careless pass to Robin Van Persie. The Stoke goalkeeper's blushes were spared when Ander Herrera scooped over from the Dutchman’s pa ...
Ashley Young was heading to the Old Trafford exit door but has turned things around this season, writes
Manchester United's Ashley Young believes the club can start to look beyond the top four spot they now occupy such is the confidence manager Louis Van Gaal has instilled in the side. For the first time this season, United are among the Premier League's Champions League qualification places. Last Saturday's 2-1 win at Arsenal means United have now lost just one of their last seven games following the club's worst start to a season since 1986. United will be warm favourites to extend that run against out-of-sorts Hull City, who are just one place above the relegation zone, at Old Trafford on Saturday. For Van Gaal, the short-term target is to make sure his team stays in the top four to bring Champions League football back to United at the first time of asking under the Dutchman. But Young said there was no reason why United should not aim higher still, even though unbeaten league leaders Chelsea are a massive 13 points ahead of them at the top of the table. "I think the manager has said we want to break tha ...
Manchester United’s coach, Louis Van Gaal is looking to clean up his squad taking away six players. Reported that Van Gaal would allow the sale of six players who are not part of the long term plans Manchester. With the money collected from their sale, United will try to make an offer to return Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford. Four of these six players are on different teams borrowed, specifying Javier Hernandez ‘Chicharito’ who is on loan at Real Madrid. Marouane Fellaini is believed to be one of the players who will soon leave Old Trafford. His destination could be Tottenham, which has provided £ 15 million to bring him at White Hart Lane. List of players that could leave Old Trafford next season: – Tom Cleverley – Ashley Young – Luis NaniMarouane FellainiJavier Hernandez (Chicharito) – Chris Smalling
Man. Utd. 13.9.14 United without nine players Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has confirmed he will be without nine first team players for the game against QPR on Sunday. Phil Jones will be out for a month with a hamstring injury. He joins Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini on the sidelines - both midfielders are close to returning but not quite ready as yet. Chris Smalling won't be match fit to take on QPR. Ashley Young is also carrying a knock, while youngsters Sam Johnstone, James Wilson, Reece James and Jesse Lingard will miss out. The Red Devils have struggled badly with injuries this term, but have been boosted by the late arrivals of Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao on deadline day. Both players will be handed their Manchester United debuts at Old Trafford on Sunday, while Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are also expected to make their firs appearance for their new club.
Millions of Reds all over the world are united today in condemnation of a dire opening day performance from Louis Van Gaal’s side. The 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City in front of a packed Old Trafford shattered hopes that a return to the glory days are just around the corner following last season’s sorry showing. Hopes were high going into the new season following the arrival of Van Gaal. But the display against a solid, but hardly sensational, Swansea was a total let down. Certain players – Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini and, of course, Nani – should hang their heads in shame. You wonder just how bad the Reds would be without the newly-appointed skipper Wayne Rooney. Sadly, only the England striker out of this sorry bunch of a squad would be an automatic choice for City or Chelsea, who are sure to be contesting the Premier League title. And arguably hardly any other of the United starting XI would make the Arsenal or even Liverpool teams in c ...
Louis Van Gaal feels he will need far longer to turn Manchester United's fortunes around despite completing the pre-season with six wins out of six. United rounded off their schedule of pre-season fixtures with a 2-1 win over Valencia on Tuesday, giving the Dutchman, who took over after leading the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup last month, victory in his first match as Red Devils boss at Old Trafford. They now face Swansea in their Premier League opener at home on Saturday but Van Gaal is unsure whether Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia, who sat out Tuesday's match through injury, will be available. With those three sidelined, Van Gaal had Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tyler Blackett at centre-back, with Ashley Young and Reece James playing as wing-backs and Michael Keane the only defender on the bench against Spanish side Valencia. Left-back Shaw and midfielder Ander Herrera have been the only new signings so far this pre- season, although United are widely reported to have made ...
It was always suggested that succeeding Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager would be the hardest job in football and it proved to be the case for David Moyes at Old Trafford last season. But with the Scot being sacked after guiding United to seventh place, their lowest-ever Premier League finish, Louis Van Gaal has arguably landed the manager's job at the perfect time, with Moyes's failure making it almost impossible for the Dutchman to do any worse. Van Gaal has inherited a rebuilding job at United, but the early signs from the club's pre-season tour of the United States point to a much-improved atmosphere and sense of belief and the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach appears already to have made the team competitive again. The intensity of the Premier League will quickly test United's progress under Van Gaal and tell the manager whether his new 3-4-1-2 formation will work in England. But players who appeared to have no future at United, such as Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cl ...
Marouane Fellaini grabbed a last-minute winner as Manchester United warmed up for the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Valencia. The Belgian, who has had a tough time at Old Trafford since he was signed by David Moyes nearly a year ago, pounced on a defensive mistake in injury time to ensure the Reds finished their pre-season programme unbeaten. Darren Fletcher had put United ahead early in the second half, after Wayne Rooney had missed a penalty before the break. Rodrigo equalised in Valencia’s best spell, but just as the friendly looked to be drifting to a draw, substitute Fellaini pounced for the deciding goal. Louis Van Gaal's first game in charge at Old Trafford saw the Dutchman unveil the 3-5-2 system that served him well so far in pre-season, but although United looked comfortable the game only came to life as a contest when Rooney struck his spot kick against the base of the post having been clipped going for an Ashley Young cross. Fletcher put United ahead with a deflected shot from the ' ...
LVG says Ashley Young, Shinji Kagawa and Darren Fletcher all impressed as the Old Trafford club beat Real Madrid on Saturday
Old Trafford side looking to spend big to bring in Real Madrid, Juventus and AS Roma stars. Man United boss Louis Van Gaal has set his sights on landing a trio of top talents before the summer transfer window slams shut according to the Daily Express . Read more Manchester United FC news . The Old Trafford side are keen to erase the memory of last season's seventh place finish and the club's owners are seemingly keen to hand Van Gaal the cash needed to drastically improve his squad. The club have already forked out over £60m to bring in Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton and have three more players on their radar. Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid) The 26 year old Argentine had looked likely to move to PSG but that deal has stalled and now Man United are ready to take advantage of the situation. Van Gaal is keen to bring in fresh wide-attacking options, despite the fine form shown by Ashley Young during pre-season, and has sanctioned a club record £55m bid for the former Benfica ...
THE SPORTS BREAK FAST. You can never read too much into pre-season results, but individual performances can offer that bit more encouragement. Promising for Manchester United fans are the performances of Ashley Young so far. It is fair to say the wide man has not showcased his talent on a consistent basis at Old Trafford, but his displays against Real Madrid and Liverpool suggest he could well deliver under new boss Louis Van Gaal. With that in mind, which players have caught your eye in pre-season and why?
:Transfer News: New Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal will show his ruthless streak with a major Old Trafford clear-out with as many as 10 players facing the axe, including Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha, Marouane Fellaini, Bebe, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Nani and Nick Powell. Jose Mourinho is trying to persuade Real Madrid's World Cup-winning Germany midfielder Sami Khedira to join Chelsea instead of Arsenal. Juventus have no intention of selling Arturo Vidal this summer unless the Chile midfielder expresses his wish to leave. Vidal has been linked with Manchester United, but club administrator Giuseppe Marotta said today: "We want to keep him." Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has told Jan Vertonghen he will not be sold to Barcelona this summer. Sunderland are battling with relegated Fulham to sign USA World Cup defender Matt Besler. Swansea are close to signing £4m Ecuador winger Jefferson Montero. Liverpool will not let Luis Suarez's move to Barcelona derail their title ambitions, insists boss Brendan ...
Louis Van Gaal is set for a major clear-out at Old Trafford before he brings in four new players.. Up to ten players face the axe including Wilfried Zaha, Mariouane Fellaini, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young. Some Manchester United players players won't even get the opportunity to prove themselves on the pre-season tour of America and will be asked to leave the club within the next 48 hours.
Man United Plan Move for 'Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo' as Louis Van Gaal Looks to Freshen Up Old Trafford Attack Old Trafford side chase PSV Eindhoven winger. Man United are reportedly readying a move for Dutch international winger Memphis Depay according to the Metro. The 20 year old PSV Eindhoven wide-man scored the winner as Holland overcame Australia 3-2, his first national team goal, and is apparently a player Louis Van Gaal would like to follow him to Old Trafford this summer. Depay also provided an assist in the Dutch win over Australia and is rightly considered one of the hottest prospects in European football, dubbed by some as the 'Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo'. One imagines that the acquisition of solid effective wide attacking options would be high up on Van Gaal's wish-list with the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia are no doubt fearful for their futures at Man United after poor displays last term. Depay has scored 17 goals in 60 appearances for PSV and may well be tempted by a mov ...
Man United Boss Louis Van Gaal Ready to Spend £220m Budget On These Eight Stars: Old Trafford side set for major squad overhaul and here are eight players who could well usher in a new era of success under Louis Van Gaal. After a disastrous season under David Moyes, one that left Man United without Champions League football for 2013/14, the Old Trafford side have turned to experienced manager Louis Van Gaal to repair their reputation. To aid the Dutchman the Man United board are ready to hand Van Gaal as much as £220m to invest in his squad and there are many problem areas the former Barcelona, Ajax and Bayern Munich man may well look to address this summer. The departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand leaves the club's central defensive options decimated and there is every chance that veteran Patrice Evra will leave them needing to sign a left-back. Average seasons for Luis Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young could also lead Van Gaal to pursue wide attacking purchases and less than glorious di ...
It's a little bizarre that a team that has Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in it looked like such a damp squib last season. They have so much fire-power, but still somehow lack cutting edge. The only possible deduction, is that they're not getting the service they need to keep producing the goods. I can't help but feel that Manchester United were massively let down by their wingers last season. With Nani desperately trying to make as little impact as possible at Old Trafford and Ashley Young doing his best to copy him, it's clear that this is a problem position for Manchester United. It's not like any of the club's other options are providing the goods either. Whilst Antonio Valencia is still capable of the occasional good game, he's also largely inconsistent. I wouldn't be surprised if Louis Van Gaal has made signing a world class winger his top summer priority. After all, adding a little more threat down the flanks could breathe fresh life into this Manchester United side. It could w ...
New Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal faces a summer of rebuilding at Old Trafford with several new faces set to arrive. Talks over a £27million deal for Southampton's Luke Shaw are still ongoing, with the left-back expected to be the first signing of a crucial window. Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and his international colleague Toni Kroos remain on the radar, as does Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas. Reports today suggested United would also rival Liverpool for Dnipro's Yevhen Konoplyanka but the arrivals are set to be matched by high-profile exits. Rio Ferdinand won't be offered a new deal, while Patrice Evra - also out of contract - is unsure of his future. And the largely disappointing Ashley Young and Nani could follow them out of the exit, along with England midfielder Tom Cleverley.
From GiveMeSport.com: "Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Rio Ferdinand, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Ashley Young were all linked with moves away from the club during Moyes' time at Old Trafford after falling out of favour during periods of the season. "However all six players may now be given a second chance to show their wealth at Manchester United following Moyes' exit from the club." Spot the quality typo... BUT...good to hear Hernandez, Kagawa and Fletch could/should stay now.
RUMOURS: 7 Manchester United Players Playing for Their Futures With David Moyes widely expected to ring the changes at Old Trafford this summer there will be a new-look United playing next season, but first there must be space made for any new recruits. Some players will be looking round the dressing room concerned about their United futures but who are the prime candidates? - Tom Cleverley - Shinji Kagawa - Ashley Young - Patrice Evra - Nani - Javier Hernandez - Antonio Valencia What are your thoughts?
UCL Q-FINALS second leg Bayern Munich vs Manchester United kickoff :10/4/2014 @ 2.45am(Singapore time) Form guide: The Reds travel to Bavaria buoyed by the comprehensive and clinical 4-0 win over Newcastle, delivered by a side showing eight changes from the one that started last Tuesday's Champions League draw at Old Trafford. Bayern boss Pep Guardiola also shuffled his pack for his team's last outing, but the the German champions slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Augsberg, which ended their 53-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer shrugged the result off, saying: "It's all about Wednesday and the match against Manchester United. Nothing else matters," but his side are now without a win in three outings. They have also failed to beat English opposition on home soil this season, losing to Manchester City and drawing with Arsenal, although the latter result secured an aggregate success in the last round. Ins and outs: Juan Mata is cup-tied, and Ashley Young could be a doubt after tearing lig ...
Paul Merson's prediction: I'm sure Man United will rest everybody. They are in with a chance of getting to a Champions League semi-final, so what's the point of going to Newcastle and playing the first team? They can't win the league or get in the top four, so I think they'll play as many reserve players as they can. I'd expect to see Javier Hernandez, Nani nd Ashley Young in the team and I'd be shocked if any of the big boys play with their season on the line in Munich on Wednesday. Newcastle aren't doing great, though, so I'm not sure they can take advantage. They won at Old Trafford, but Yohan Cabaye ain't there anymore... PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 -anthony
Adnan Januzaj has been rewarded for his fantastic breakthrough season with Manchester United by being named the top Under-20 footballer in the world by Gazzetta Dello Sport. He beat a host of other talented youngsters such as Chelsea‘s Kurt Zouma, Paris St Germain’s Marquinhos and Schalke’s Max Meyer to the award and it is a testament to the impact he has had at Manchester United despite our poor season. Earlier this year, Januzaj was also nominated for the prestigious Golden Boy trophy award which Paul Pogba eventually won but his title from Gazzetta Dello Sport is fantastic in itself. Januzaj may only be 19 but he is already held in high regard at Old Trafford. When he came on against Aston Villa last week, he posed more attacking threat in a cameo substitute appearance than Ashley Young did in the whole game and going into next season and since his breakthrough goals against Sunderland, has been considered a vital player in the first team squad. He has been eased back out of the team this year by ...

Arsenal * Arsenal are the best second-half team in the Premier League; they have 'won' 18 of their 32 second halves this season. * Santi Cazorla had more touches than any other player during Arsenal v City (105) but contrived to lose the ball eight times with a poor touch. * Olivier Giroud has scored just three goals in his last 22 matches against the current top seven in the Premier League; he had three off-target shots v City on Saturday. Aston Villa * Villa are currently in relegation form with just seven points collected from their last eight Premier League games. * Their 13th-minute goal v Manchester United was their one and only shot on target. * Christian Benteke was dispossessed five times at Old Trafford; only five PL players have been dispossessed more times than the Belgian this season. Cardiff City * Cardiff have only scored nine first- half goals in the Premier League this season; they have scored 20 after the break. * At West Brom on Saturday, they picked up their first away point since Dece ...
BLABBING TIME: De Gea: United stood up to be counted Manchester United FC goalkeeper David De Gea said he was delighted to have proved wrong all those people who predicted an easy win for FC Bayern München at Old Trafford in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg. David De Gea, Manchester United goalkeeper This is a big club and at difficult moments is when you stand up and show people how big you are. I am pleased with that – people thought it was going to be easy for Bayern and we have produced a big performance. We are satisfied. We feel we played really well – it was a big effort against a very strong opponent. We might even have won. We knew we had to defend well, shut down the spaces and hit them on the counterattack and we had some clear chances. Defensively we were good, we kept it tight. I think we unsettled them. They're two different competitions and things haven't gone well in the league but the Champions League is a special competition, the team are doing really well and ...
Back in December, a commanding performance against West Ham gave the Reds a 3-1 win at Old Trafford, with goals from Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj and Ashley Young.
Manchester United edges through to UCL quarter finals. It was a nerve twitching final moments at Old Trafford, but the home team held on for a victory whose significance in seeing United observe a right of passage to the quarters, rivals that in defining United's season...and possibly Moyes' future. RVP came alive to earn his first UCL hat trick, but the virtuoso performance of Wayne Rooney and ever green Ryan Giggs, and the guile and athleticism of De Gea did just enough to keep the recently crowned Greek champions at bay. It was a game captain Patrice Evra, and late substitute Ashley Young had a particularly poor show. This must be a much needed balm to soothe the aching nerves of United faithfuls. It was a night United's pedigree carried them through. This victory must be cherished, but United struggled in crucial areas of the game. That Ryan Giggs, at 40 is United's best central midfielder tells just the parlous state of affairs at United. Issues would surely arise when they meet the European super .. ...
United v Liverpool: Stuart Mathieson's starting XI 11 Mar 2014 06:00 Our Reds reporter picks out the team he believes is best equipped to beat Brendan Rodgers' team when they come to Old Trafford on Sunday. Share on printShare on email David Moyes is gradually removing the selection question marks over the personnel who will form the core of his new-look United side in the future. On Sunday against Liverpool there could be another glimpse into the future. And it might be the choice that will define his future. United fans have seen many of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2013 Premier League title winners eased out of the picture since August. The under-achieving Anderson was shipped out to Fiorentina on loan. Shinji Kagawa, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez have been reduced to peripheral figures who will all be fearing their Old Trafford careers are now on borrowed time. Alex Buttner has not threatened Patrice Evra and Nani has been battling a hamstring injury since December. Both of those could ...
Chicharito hints at United unrest Javier Hernandez has fuelled speculation that he will quit Manchester United at the end of the season by posting an enigmatic message on his Instagram page. • Payne: Manchester United plumb tactical depths • Jolly: Patience starting to wear thin Following United's 2-2 draw with Fulham at Old Trafford, in which Hernandez replaced Ashley Young as a second-half substitute, Mexico striker Hernandez wrote: "The time to speak about so many things will come…" In January, his agent and father, Eduardo, told ESPN the 25-year-old was wanted by six clubs in Spain, Italy, France and Germany, including "one of the top 10 teams in the world." However, the player said he was determined to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place -- but his patience with under-fire manager David Moyes appears to have snapped after he was overlooked for a starting role in the Fulham match.
David Moyes needs to rethink Manchester United's simplistic tactics The lack of goals from midfield and the reliance on crosses has left out of campions league spot Steve Sidwell may like to offer Manchester United's midfield finishing classes. The Fulham captain's first-half goal in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford was Sidwell's sixth in the league to double the total returned by United's starting quartet of Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Ashley Young and Juan Mata. For a journeyman midfielder to single- handedly outscore the champions' engine room two-to-one is the latest damning statistic in this season of ever-deepening woe for United and their manager, David Moyes. Until Carrick gave United a 2-1 lead on Sunday, the 32-year-old had yet to register in the campaign. Mata, who managed 20 goals in all competitions last season, has zero in three league games since joining and did not score for Chelsea in the league either, the same number as Fletcher (who has missed most of the season through illness), whi ...
Moyes defends Zaha decision Manchester United boss David Moyes has asked the club's fans to trust his judgement on his handling of Wilfried Zaha. Sir Alex Ferguson's final signing as United boss was expected to make a big impact at Old Trafford this season. Instead, the £15m arrival from Crystal Palace made just four appearances including the Community Shield, and has now moved to Cardiff on loan until the end of the campaign. Zaha made an impressive debut for Cardiff in their win over Norwich last weekend, which has led to some critics wondering why the 21- year-old has not featured more for United. But Moyes insists competition on the flanks has limited Zaha's outings with Adnan Januzaj, Shinji Kagawa, Nani, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young all battling for places in the first half of the season. "At times you have to believe what the manager is seeing as well," Moyes said. "There is big competition for those wide areas. "When I came in, I had Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young. Then we had the e ...
There is a new sense of optimism in the Manchester United camp ahead of Saturday's match at Stoke City. Tuesday evening's 2-0 win against Cardiff City at Old Trafford not only earned the Red Devils a welcome victory - only their second in seven league and cup outings - the match also featured an impressive debut by club record signing Juan Mata, plus the return of star strikers Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney from lingering injuries. Spain midfielder Mata, who moved to United from Premier League rivals Chelsea last weekend for a club-record fee of 37.1 million pounds ($61.2 million), was applauded off the pitch on Tuesday after being substituted after 85 minutes. Netherlands striker Van Persie, who missed 11 matches due to a thigh problem, started against Cardiff and headed United in front after only six minutes. England forward Rooney came on as a 63rd-minute replacement for Van Persie after a five-match absence with groin trouble. Ashley Young scored a second for United just after the hour mark. Unite ...
Manchester United new-boy Juan Mata described his Old Trafford debut as ‘amazing’ as he played 85 minutes of the club's 2-0 victory against Cardiff. • Okwonga: As Mata starts, United get the right kind of victory • Jolly: Three Things: Manchester United vs. Cardiff Mata was playing his first Premier League game since Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho substituted him at Southampton on New Year’s Day and he played a part in the second United goal, which was finished off in some style by Ashley Young. “It’s been amazing,” Mata told Sky Sports. “The most important thing is we won and hopefully this is the start of a good run of results. It’s been an amazing game for me, I tried my best and my team- mates were very good. The atmosphere was just unbelievable. “It’s been a while since I did it [played a match], since the January 1st. I am very happy to have played and I look forward to playing more. “I feel very good. When you are playing alongside players like Robin [Van Persie], Chicharit ...
Manchester United's record signing Juan Mata enjoyed a winning debut on Tuesday as his new club recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Cardiff City in the Premier League. Leaders Arsenal, meanwhile, spurned an opportunity to move four points clear after drawing 2-2 at Southampton, but Liverpool tightened their grip on fourth place with a superb 4-0 defeat of derby rivals Everton. Mata started at Old Trafford, three days after making a £37.1 million move from Chelsea, as former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to his old stomping ground as Cardiff manager. Last season's top scorer Robin Van Persie was also included in United's starting line-up, after seven weeks out with a thigh strain, and the Dutch striker broke the deadlock in the sixth minute. Mata found Ashley Young with a raking pass and when his cross was headed against the bar by Antonio Valencia, Van Persie headed in at the second attempt after his initial header was parried by goalkeeper David Marshall. Young added a fine second in the 59 ...
Premier League: Juan Mata debuts as Manchester United see off Cardiff Juan Mata made his Manchester United debut on Tuesday, but it was Robin Van Persie and Ashley Young who earned a 2-0 win over Cardiff City. Positivity has been in short supply at Old Trafford this season, but David Moyes was boosted by a big-money signing and returning frontmen in midweek. Best of the match Man of the match: Ashley Young. Has come in for criticism at times but helped make one and scored the other on a productive evening. Goal of the match: There was no stopping Young's spectacular 25-yard drive which flashed past David Marshall before he had time to react. Moment of the match: An emotional night at Old Trafford saw Juan Mata and returning hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given warm receptions, but only one was celebrating at the final whistle. Talking point: Can United now fire themselves back into the top four? Have Cardiff got enough to claw their way out of the drop zone? It took just six minutes for the spark to be rekindl ...
FT: Man United 2-0 Cardiff City. United are back to winning ways again, thanks to a 1st half Robin Van Persie header, and a 2nd half bullet from Ashley Young. Juan Mata played a decent 84 minutes on debut, gained a goal assist, and had a small chance before he was subbed off. United head to Stoke on the weekend for their next fixture, before returning to Old Trafford to play Fulham on Feb 9th.
Ashley Young hosted a terminally ill Man United fan in a box at Old Trafford today. Respect!
Man Utd v SWANSEA FA CUP THIRD ROUND Venue: Old Trafford Date: Sunday, 5 January Manchester United will be without strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie for Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie against Swansea. Rooney (groin) and Van Persie (thigh) are both injured, as is winger Ashley Young (shoulder). Swansea winger Pablo Hernandez is likely to miss out after sustaining a hamstring injury. Swansea's Old Trafford woe The Swans have played Manchester United at Old Trafford 10 times, with the first fixture back in 1931. However, they have never won and have drawn just twice, the most recent in 1934. Leon Britton (illness) is a doubt while Michu, Michel Vorm and Nathan Dyer are all definitely out. Rooney missed United's trip to Norwich on 28 December with a groin problem and, despite returning for the New Year's Day loss to Tottenham, was pictured leaving a private hospital in Manchester on Friday. He could return for the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Sunderland on Tuesday. United have ...

David Moyes slams Howard Webb over "scandalous" decision not to award Ashley Young a penalty at Old Trafford:
West Ham defender James Collins has accused Adnan Januzaj of "cheating", after the Manchester United midfielder was booked for diving at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Red Devils starlet was shown a yellow card for simulation after throwing himself to the ground with the 30-year-old centre-half in close proximity. The 18-year-old was warned by his manager David Moyes not to let diving "creep into his play" and Collins is confident the Belgian-born youngster will heed that advice. However, the Wales international was nontheless unequivocal in his view of the incident with Januzaj. "It's cheating, basically," Collins told Sky Sports News. "I don't like to see it in the game. He probably thinks I am going to stick my leg out and he's probably already thinking about going over. "Obviously he's taken a dive. He's a young lad, a great player, I'm sure he will learn. "David Moyes seems to have this conversation quite a lot at his club with Ashley Young. "It happens in football. He (Januzaj) is a great player and ...
Old Trafford will be like a swimming pool tonight. Ashley Young 's playing
Ashley Young has been branded a "diver and a cheat" by Real Sociedad's Markel Bergara, who was booked for bringing the Manchester United down for a penalty in midweek. United boss David Moyes says he rejected the chance to sign Mesut Ozil because he did not believe the club needed him. THE TIMES Jose Mourinho says the Premier League is laughing at Chelsea by making them play West Brom today, while other teams who have been in European action get an extra day's rest. Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool's top priority in the January transfer window must be signing players capable of instantly improving their first team. DAILY MAIL Ryan Giggs has scoffed at the idea that Arsenal are favourites for tomorrow's Barclays Premier League clash at Old Trafford and says the title race will only properly begin in the New Year. Three men, including a former private investigator at the firm hired by Tottenham during their failed bid for the Olympic Stadium, have admitted to 'snooping' on Karren Brady and other senior figure ...
Real Sociedad coach Jagoba Arrasate conceded that his side merited no more than their 1-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Manchester United. Heading to Old Trafford on the back of consecutive Group A defeats, Sociedad suffered the worst possible start when Wayne Rooney's shot came back off the post and Inigo Martinez put through his own net after just two minutes. The visitors eventually rallied and Antoine Griezmann and Alberto de la Bella both struck the crossbar as United suffered some nervy moments, but had any of the late chances that fell to Rooney, Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa and Ashley Young been converted it would have leant a more accurate slant to the scoreline.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and has not featured for his club since the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City in late September EXCLUSIVE By Paul Clennam Manchester United are ready to cut their losses on Ashley Young and will listen to offers for the winger in January, Goal can reveal. The 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut campaign following his £17 million move from Aston Villa just over two years ago but injuries and a chronic loss of form have seen him fall down the Old Trafford pecking order. Sources have told Goal that coaches have “seen enough” of the player, who earns £110,000-a- week plus bonuses, to determine he is not worthy of a place in the long-term plans of David Moyes. The former Watford starlet’s reputation has taken a pummelling having been embroiled in several diving controversies, the most recent of which occurred during last month’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Afterwards Moyes criticised Young – comments that have served t ...

Thoughts on Wingers! On 1 July, David Moyes will officially inherit a star-studded squad to mount his assault on the Barclays Premier League during the 2013/14 season. And the Former Everton manager will be spoilt for choice. Here, having analysed his batch of goalkeepers, full-backs and centre-halves , we *** the wingers that will be at his disposal. Click on their names to also view extensive profiles... Ryan Giggs: Where do you start? The Reds legend is the most decorated British player of all time and tops the appearance charts at Old Trafford. Although he has adopted a central role in recent years, his form on the flank last term proved he’s not yet done with the art of wing wizardry. Antonio Valencia: Having swept the board at the 2011/12 end-of-season awards, the Ecuadorian was handed the iconic no.7 shirt at United, an honour reserved for a special few. His form dipped a little last term, but a vast improvement at the business end hints at a bright future under Moyes. Ashley Young: Although i .. ...
NANI will call David Moyes tomorrow before making an announcement on his future in the next couple of days. The Manchester United winger is a £12million target for Monaco, Galatasaray and Napoli. Talks over a new deal at United have stalled amid speculation linking him with a move away. It is not yet clear whether he has a place in new boss Moyes’ plans. And the Portuguese star, 26, said: “I have not yet decided where I am going or if I am going. “I do not want to speak about rumours but I will decide my future in the next few days.” Nani’s case for staying is not helped by the £15m signing of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace and the return to fitness of Ashley Young. The Portuguese slipped down United’s pecking order after Alex Ferguson regularly left him on the sidelines. Nani has stated he wants a £6m-a-year salary if he is to leave Old Trafford. But that will not worry Turkish giants Galatasaray or moneybags Monaco, who are bankrolled by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. The 2004 ...
Team:Manchester United. (champions) Signing Robin Van Persie proved to be the final masterstroke before Alex Ferguson called time on his 27- year reign at Old Trafford. The Dutchman's 26 league goals allowed United to romp to the title but there were questions marks about the defence at times and a lack of creativity in central midfield. With Wayne Rooney's future at the club uncertain, and time running out for under-performing wingers Nani and Ashley Young, new manager David Moyes should be granted a large transfer budget to strengthen his squad.
Sir Alex Ferguson doubts Ashley Yoúng will be fit to face Stoke City on Sunday after the he limped off during Monday night's derby at Old Trafford. ''We've got six days until the Stoke game. Ashley Yoúng obviously may be out. It looks a bad one, not serious, but I think he'll miss Sunday's game.'' -Sir Alex Ferguson
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has expressed his horror at the Gunners’ display against Manchester United and slated Arsene Wenger's tactical approach to the game. The Red Devils were rampant at Old Trafford, astonishingly beating the visitors 8-2 after a hat-trick from Wayne Rooney and two goals from Ashley Young. Merson, who spent 11 years as a player with Arsenal, said he was disgusted by what he had witnessed on the pitch. “It is definitely the worst day for Arsene Wenger in charge and it is even the worst day for a long time in Arsenal’s history. Since I started there in 1984, I cannot remember much worse than what we have seen here. It was shocking, just shocking,” said the Sky Sports pundit. “There are much lesser teams with much less talent than Arsenal who will come to Old Trafford this season and make it doubly as difficult as they did today. “You have got to have tactics - you can’t just have a Plan A, you have to have a plan B. The way Wenger set up wasn’t good enough. You can’t ...
Nani edges United closer to Treble There were none of the double backflips with twist which Nani made his trademark when his Manchester United career looked like a cloudless sky. Just two thumbs, jerked over his shoudlers at the name and number on his back, after he had proved the crucial difference and broken the deadlock, reminding us that he was the one who used to have jet-heels at Old Trafford. If his man-of-the-match performance, undertaken in barely 45 minutes of football after arriving from the bench, preserves his United career into a sixth season then it will be one of football's more surprising turnarounds, for a player whose limited game-time has seen him reject a new contract, which has limited his game-time. Stranger things have happened. Antonia Valencia's struggle to reach the heights of last year, when he was player of the season, may help the cause of the Portuguese, who is a game-changer in a way Ashley Young has never been at Old Trafford. Some don't care for his attitude. But a little ...
Manchester United are through to the quarter finals of The FA Cup after substitute Nani inspired them to a 2-1 victory over Reading at Old Trafford. Nani, only on the pitch because of a 42nd minute ankle injury to Phil Jones, stole the show as he scored one and made another in a devastating ten minute spell in the second half. Reading - famous for their dramatic comebacks this season - did their best to produce another following a late goal from Jobi Mcanuff. But it is United who will face either Middlesbrough or Chelsea in the last eight. In an intriguing Fifth Round tie, Sir Alex Ferguson's men created a handful of first-half chances with Adam Federici doing superbly to deny Tom Cleverley and then Ashley Young with a stunning double save. Javier Hernandez also went close for the home team, but Reading were always a danger at set pieces and managed to reach half time with the score still 0-0. United suffered an unfortunate injury to Jones, who went off just before the break after a challenge with McAnuf ...
UP Manchester United O Ashley Young returns to the Manchester United squad after a five-match absence for Sunday's Barclays Premier League encounter with Everton at Old Trafford. Young has been sidelined by a knee injury but bolsters the Red Devils' wide options ahead of the Champions League showdown with Real Madrid. Phil Jones (shingles) and Michael Carrick (hip) have both recovered from the problems which prevented them reporting for international duty this week. At the start of this season Marouane Fellaini scored the only goal at Goodison Park to put Everton in with a shot of their first league double over United since 1969. ``They have a genuine chance of being in the top four,'' said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson. ``The title race is between ourselves and City, but after that you've got Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and even Liverpool, who are starting to get more consistency after that result last weekend. ``But Everton are there on merit. ``They are a difficult opponent. They have only los ...

Team News ahead of tonight clash. Ashley Young and Jonny Evans will remain on the sidelines. England winger Young suffered a knee injury against Liverpool a fortnight ago, whilst Evans (hamstring) has not featured since the FA Cup draw at West Ham three weeks ago. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson must decide whether to stick with David De Gea in goal or recall Anders Lindegaard, who took over for the replay win against the Hammers.Fulham midfielder Kieran Richardson will miss the chance to take on former club Manchester United. The 28-year-old suffered a calf injury in last weekend’s defeat at Manchester City and will not be fit in time for the game at Old Trafford, although he is likely to return to training next week. Mahamadou Diarra (knee) is not likely to play again for a month whilst Kerim Frei (pelvis) is also absent.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said Ashley Young "is on the road back" from injury and should be fit for next month's Champions League games against Real Madrid. Young, 27, suffered a knee injury in United's win over Liverpool at Old Trafford two weeks ago, but it had originally been thought he could have returned at Tottenham last Sunday. Is this good news or bad news? -Soccerman17
Manchester United will no doubt still be flying high after their huge 2-1 victory against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on the weekend. Yet the win was soured by the fact that key players Nemanja Vidic and Ashley Young both appeared to suffer injuries during the match. Both players have already missed several games this year due to injury and would be huge blows, respectively, if unavailable for United in the near future. Vidic and Young were substituted off during the match against Liverpool, though no information is yet known as to what the injuries exactly are and what their severity is as well as subsequent impact on Manchester United's starting lineup. (titus)
Nemanja Vidic and Ashley Young both picked up knee injuries yesterday, with the latter leaving Old Trafford on crutches, I hope they're both not ruled out for too long, especially with Evans picking up a hamstring injury in training.
Man.Utd. travel down to South Wales this weekend for a Sunday Premier League encounter with Swansea City. The two sides have yet to meet this season but they did so twice in the past campaign. During this same fixture at Liberty Stadium last year in November, a careless giveaway by Angel Rangel eventually led to a Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) goal -- the lone score in the game. During the reverse fixture at Old Trafford, the Red Devils secured a 2-0 victory over the Swans after first-half strike from Paul Scholes and Ashley Young. Manchester United Form Guide: United enter the weekend top of the table and with a six-point advantage on title-contending rival Manchester City. Thus far, Sir Alex Ferguson's side has earned 42 points from 17 league matches. The Red Devils have emerged victorious from their past five league matches with the most recent one being a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Sunderland last weekend. Team News: Rafael, Anderson, Nani, and Shinji Kagawa all have been ruled out for the match. SWANS ...

Old Trafford is a bit to big stage for Ashley Young, don't think he has been as good as he could be, sadly.
"Fergie: 10 Minutes Brilliant" OSF, MANCHESTER - Sir Alex Ferguson praised his side after their 3-1 win over caretaker team Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League matchday 13. United have played him with a brilliant 10 minutes. For in a match that took place at Old Trafford, United fell behind 0-1 through Jamie Mackie scored in the 52nd minute. However, these pascagol, Fergie make substitutions, Javier Hernandez and Anderson, who came on for Paul Scholes and Ashley Young. The change is effective, where Jhonny Evans created the equalizer, followed by Darren Fletcher, as well as grain goals by Chicharito. In addition to praising the team, Fergie also provide a special assessment to Anderson "We just played well in 10 minutes and 10 minutes it is really quite brilliant. I think Anderson changed our game, "said Ferguson, as quoted by the BBC, Sunday (11/25/2012). In addition, this game is a special game for Fletcher who also had a role in the rise of United through goals printed on 68 minutes. This action ...
Manchester United 1 vs 0 Arsenal Fc - In Progress — 9′ Refresh scores 3′ - Goal - Robin Van Persie (Manchester United) UNITED TAKE THE LEAD!! And it just had to be that man Robin Van Persie, didn't it. Thomas Vermaelen fluffs a clearance and the former Gunner hits it first time with his right foot and into the corner. What a start! 2′ - It's a slow, tentative start from both sides as they settle into the match. United press forward with Ashley Young but his cross deflects straight into the arms of Mannone. 1′ - Referee Mike Dean blows the whistle and Arsenal get the match underway. … - The players emerge from thetunnel and we are only a few minutes away from kick-off. t’s only normal to say a prayer or two when locking horns with the forces of darkness, and in this case, Arsene Wenger and his Gunners are going to the Netherrealm to play those Red Devils in Old Trafford. The last time Arsenal visited Hades the home ground of the Red Devils, it’s fair to say that they saw *** Like Midas, everything Shrek touched changed to gold…goals, Ashley Young used Wojciech Szczesny for target practice with those two exquisite goals, Nani humiliated the goalie with an impudent chip and the Scourge of Arsenal, Park Ji-Sung, joined the party as well. Arsene Wenger has been quick to point out that the game was quickly forgotten by his side and the nervy win against Swansea paved the way for a great Autumn. After a somewhat topsy-turvy, the Gunners endured another fruitless campaign but finishing at third place was some achievement, judging from the torrid start to the season. The preview to this game has being marred by racism, as it’s believed that referee, Mark Clattenburg, ...
Well done referee. Why are Chelski fans crying? Ivanosvic brought down a clean through, on goal, Ashley Young. While Fernando Torres got red-carded for his own doings - fine Evans caught him with the tender off touches but not what he made of it. Also what goes about comes around .. Remember Drogba's BIG BIG off-side goal at Old Trafford that won Chelsea the league a few years back! Also a few recent decisions went against United at the bridge I recall the Carrick accidental hand-ball which resulted in a penalty and Chelski won it! Then a John Terry header in which he pushed a United player but it was not spotted by any of the match officials and Chelski won that encounter aswell! Well done Man Utd - now bring on Wilshire and Arsenal !
teach that at Old Trafford don't they? Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and co.
Preview: United v Braga Date, time and coverage: Tuesday 23 October, 19:45 BST. Watch it live on ITV1 or follow the action via text and radio commentary on ManUtd.com. Form guide: With two wins from two games in Group H, Manchester United hope to take another step towards the UEFA Champions League knockout stages with victory over SC Braga at Old Trafford. The Reds have never lost a home match against Portuguese opposition and have been clinical in this season’s competition, with minds perhaps sharpened by last term’s early exit. However, Tuesday’s opponents are on a seven-match unbeaten run on their travels in Europe. Braga are also unbeaten in five matches against English sides, earning a recent draw with Liverpool and a narrow win over Birmingham City. Ins and outs: Ashley Young has returned to first team training at Carrington and could make his long-awaited return on Tuesday, after narrowly missing out on the weekend win over Stoke. Chris Smalling is doubtful and still unavailable, joining Phil ...

Ashley Young welcome back 2 Old Trafford,we av missed u alot man.
Goal.com UK shared the following link and had this to say about it: Manchester United have received a triple injury boost with the news that Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Antonio Valencia are all in line to feature against Stoke City on October 20. 'Like' if you think Sir Alex Ferguson's side has missed Smalling the most, or 'share' if you think the Old Trafford club have badly missed Young.

Manchester United winger, Ashley Young, helped a boy who was hit by a Range Rover while he was crossing the road when the former was on his way to Old Trafford for the game against Tottenham Last Saturday. A witness, 23-year old Michael Robinson, said the following: "We were on our way to the game when we heard a sickening thud. When we turned round we could see this young lad on the floor screaming and shouting." "As we got closer I saw that Ashley Young had stopped to help the boy. There was blood on the back of the lad’s head and he was crying as his dad held him in his arms. Ashley was on his phone and seemed to be very concerned. The lad seemed more shook up than anything - but then he seemed to get worse." "Ashley wasn't bothered about kick- off. He waited with the young lad and his dad. It was good to see him behaving just like any other member of the public." Even though the game had kicked off inside Old Trafford, Ashley Young waited there till the medics arrived and did not leave the boy and h ...
Wow just went past Ashley Young he has ran someone over outside Old Trafford with his Range Rover!!! Looks bad!!!
Danny Welbeck; Ashley Young & NOW Antonio Valencia have "perfected" the art of "diving". Clearly, Man Utd have gained something from their Champions League experiences...Ivanovic (of Chelsea) should go attend classes at Old Trafford - after trying on 3 occassions in one match, he is in desperate need of them.
Can you someone please tell Danny Welbeck (and Ashley Young) that diving is going out of fashion or is Man Utd starting a Diving Academy at Old Trafford either way that's poor football the guy was on the floor more than he was on his feet for the whole game, nice to see the new recruits. Score though!

I have heard that FIFA13 is so realistic that "Old Trafford" has a swimming pool in each penalty area so Ashley Young can dive whenever he likes for a penalty
Manchester United have included new signing Shinji Kagawa in their squad for their pre-season tour of South Africa and China. The Red Devils have also included England Under-18 international Nick Powell in the travelling party. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had earlier this month said he would "be taking the strongest team we have available." And the Scot has included the likes of Rio Ferdinand, midfielders Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, and Antonio Valencia, along with striker Javier Hernandez. Dimitar Berbatov is also included, despite indicating at the weekend that he will leave Old Trafford this summer, as is fellow striker Bebe, who spent last season on loan at Besiktas. Ferguson has left out England internationals Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones and Ashley Young, while Ryan Giggs and Tom Cleverley will not travel due to their involvement with Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics. United are scheduled to face AmaZulu and Ajax Cape Town in the next week, before travelling to China to take on Shanghai Shenhua, ...

Nani fears that he is being forced out of Manchester United after being stunned by the club’s reluctance to hand him a new contract. The Portuguese winger still has two years left on his existing deal, but was hoping to get a pay rise that would bring him more in line with the club’s top earners. But talks have become deadlocked – even though Nani has reduced his demands twice in a bid to broker an agreement. Now the 25-year-old is starting to feel that perhaps United are getting ready to cash in on him while his value is at its highest. Sir Alex Ferguson has Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia to play on the wings and the United boss felt that Nani’s form suffered last season. He arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in a £25million deal in 2007 and United would make a healthy profit on any sale.
The 21-year-old striker was confirmed in Roy Hodgson's final squad this week despite concerns over the injury he sustained in the derby defeat to Manchester City. Welbeck's growing maturity at Old Trafford has surprised the ex-United full-back, who felt the demands of playing as a central striker would have been too great for such a young talent. However, the local lad netted 12 times in a promising first full season with Sir Alex's team. "I didn't think Danny was strong enough to play up front," admitted Albiston to ManUtd.com. "I thought he could be like Nani or Ashley Young, cutting in from the wing. He had goals in him but I didn't see him as a striker because he wasn't strong enough. But he's filled out, his legs are stronger and he wants to run which means defenders immediately back off to give you more space. "It's great that he's going to the Euros. Even if he didn't play, he'd still benefit but both he and Phil Jones should come back better for us hopefully. Danny had a bit of experience on loan ...

Losing Premier League crown to Man City on goal difference would be agony, says Young Monday, 07 May 2012 13:08 | Written by skysports.com Ashley Young fears Manchester United's season will end in agony because their failure to score enough goals will allow rivals City to pip them to the title. Roberto Mancini's side are on course to land their first championship since 1968 after Yaya Toure's brace earned an impressive 2-0 win at St James' Park. And although United beat Swansea 2-0 at Old Trafford they need a miracle - a QPR win or draw at the Etihad Stadium - to retain the Barclays Premier League crown. Young is remaining positive, but understands just how tight the margin of defeat will be if United conceded their title. He told MUTV: 'It's disappointing we didn't score more goals as it looked like we could've done but we've still got to have faith QPR can do us a favour. 'It comes down to the last day now and of course it will be disappointing, especially if it goes down to goal difference, and we lose ...
Not since Denis Law struck for Manchester City as Manchester United were relegated at Old Trafford in 1974 has a backheeled goal appeared so unappreciated by the scorer. As Paul Scholes, born later that momentous year, flicked United into the lead with masterly expertise, there was barely a flicker of a celebration. No raised arm, no smile, no indication of joy. Not for the first time, a glance at Scholes offered an accurate appraisal of United. There was an air of resignation about the old timer, a sense that a scoring a goal, no matter how skilful, when the Premier League trophy seems headed for the Etihad Stadium was the footballing equivalent of winning a minor battle and losing a major war. But both goalscorers' reaction told a tale in themselves. Scholes was the face of realism, Ashley Young the voice of implausible optimism. When the winger doubled United's advantage against Swansea, he charged into the visitors' net, retrieving the ball and haring back to the half-way line. It was as though, even ...
Manchester United ensured that they took the Premier League title race into the final day of the season with a routine 2-0 victory over Swansea at Old Trafford, with Paul Scholes and Ashley Young among the goals.
Oh no, Howard "see no evil" Webb is ref at St James Park on Sunday & its Chris Foy @ Old Trafford. Another dodgy Ashley Young pen at 0-0?
STILL ON BRITISH REFEREES: Manchester City boss Robert Mancini has agreed with me that English referees are always tilted towards favouring Manchester United. He says "the rules are not the same for everyone" when it comes to refereeing decisions. His comments come after Man United's Ashley Young received widespread criticism for penalties which he won against QPR and Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Mancini says "When I was in Italy, I always thought here (in England) they were the best referees. My idea has changed. The rules are not the same for everyone". I believe him.
Fergie appears to be wearing studs on the touchline. Can't blame him - as Ashley Young proved, that Old Trafford grass is slippery.
David Moyes has stated that he WILL appeal the penalty that Ashley Young is awarded at Old Trafford today :0)
Ashley Young is expected to be fit for Manchester United's Barclays Premier League clash against Everton at Old Trafford despite picking up a knock against Aston Villa but Paul Pogba and Anderson are likely to miss the rest of the season.
Well done Chelsea ! The ball was over the line.well ok.the half way line !! We got 5 goals so we would have won anyway. Ps. for people who slag off Drogba.take a look at Ashley Young and it's not the first time.same old united and the famous old trafford penalty n extra extra time when it's needed.just asked a QPR fan about that. most football fans hate united not because they are successful, it's because they are a sacred cow due to the Munich disaster . Most people from Manchester support city and grew up near the ground, playing football on their streets, supporting their LOCAL club and not just picking a successful team. I know there are geniune man u supporters too n I've meet them but they need to work on their PR.Gary Neville could not be classed as a good role model and has nearly caused riots when playing Liverpool. sorry but needs to be said.
