Jonathan In Winners Chapel, Seeks Prayers. President Goodluck Jonathan made a surprise appearance at Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith World Outreach, also known as Winners Chapel, Ota, Ogun State, on Sunday. Our correspondent gathered that his visit took some of the worshippers by surprise as there was no announcement that he would be visiting the church on Sunday. A source, who spoke with our correspondent on Sunday, said Jonathan said he visited the church to thank the organisation for their prayers for him and the country. The source, who craved anonymity, added that the President stated that he had come to thank God for being given another opportunity by the Peoples Democratic Party to stand for re-election in the February 14 presidential poll. The source said,”Yes, it is true, President Goodluck Jonathan worshipped in one of our services today (Sunday). “He did not say much. He came to thank the ...
Jonathan’s Response To Obasanjo’s Five Questions By Chibuzo Ukaibe — Jan 16, 2015 | 7 Comments A seemingly remorseful President Goodluck Jonathan, could only plead for understanding and corporation when he visited former President Goodluck Jonathan, to seek his blessings ahead of the February presidential election. Jonathan it was gathered appealed for the support of Obasanjo at the meeting, choosing not to respond to some of the questions posed by the Former President. The president had after his re-election campaign in Abeokuta, Ogun State, gone with the overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and founder of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, to the residence of Obasanjo to seek his forgiveness and support. At the meeting however, the Former President had asked his estranged god- son the following questions, “ (1) Did you agree to run for only one term or not? (2) What did you tell me was your reason for not going after Boko Haram insurgents even when I tol ...
Tinubu PDP lacks integrity to query Buhari’s certificate, says Tinubu January 14, 2015 Written by Tajudeen Adebanjo All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify APC presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari over certificate issues. Tinubu, who spoke yesterday during the APC’s rally in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, described PDP as a “shameless” party. He said: “I laugh when the incapable government of Nigeria, the Poverty Development Party has nothing to say; they have the temerity to question the educational qualification of General Buhari and look for his certificate. Aa! (laughter) Shame on them… what an insult!. “The Armed Forces institution… Don’t go through General Buhari, ask the military. After all, he went to Army school – from Cadet School, he got a star. From there, he became Colonel, dem no talk. Then Major ...
Reactions and allegations keep tracking the Monday meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. It had been previously reported that what was supposed to be a peace meeting ended in fiasco . Some sources said that Obasanjo was not feeling comfortable during the encounter because of the President’s recent provocative utterances against prominent Nigerian statesmen, including him. The others however added that the meeting “was frank and straight to the issues at hand”. Still, it soon emerged that following the occasion OBJ declared his current mindset to be ABJ , or “Anything But Jonathan” . It was a clear indication that the whole thing did not go well. The latest update on the meeting was exclusive provided by Leadership, according to which the ex-President put the acting President on the hot seat in his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta. 2015 Election: Jonathan woos Obasanjo again As the presidential election draws nearer, the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan is leaving no stone unturned to see that they get the support of Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo. There are strong indications that the Jonathan over the weekend sent some high powerful emissaries to Abeokuta, the home state of Obasanjo to book for an appointment with him to discuss several issues which will brighten the chances of Jonathan in the presidential election. PM News can report that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not had it so tough to retain its position at the center. Our correspondent reliably gathered that Jonathan had on Saturday sent some high powerful delegates to meet with Baba, as Obasanjo fondly called to facilitate the meeting of the president with his estranged former political godfather. An inside source revealed that some set of people had earlier come on New Year Day to felicitate with the Former President and use the opportunity to set the ag ...

No fewer than 150 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State have threatened to dump the party for opposition parties.
OGUN 2015: SDP could spoil the party for APC Segun Olatunji, Abeokuta There is no doubt that Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State would have to fight the battle to retain the control of the machinery of government beyond the 2015 elections from more than one front. The reason for this is not far-fetched. Before now, the race to grab the reins of governance in the state was among three major contenders, including the ruling APC, the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party. But the sudden and unexpected arrival of the Social Democratic Party on the scene has completely changed the political landscape in the state. The SDP, which is being nurtured by Governor Amosun’s estranged godfather and Former Governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, is believed to be making serious inroads into the political turf in the state, that is, within the little time of its existence. The current development could be traced to the initial squabbles within the th ...
Osinbajo: APC, PDP change zoning formula The country’s two major political parties the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Party have kick-started a realignment of forces in order to upstage each other in the forthcoming 2015 presidential election. The realignment is said to be one of the fallouts of the emergence of Professor Yemi Osinbajo as the vice- presidential candidate of the APC on Wednesday. Both parties, SUNDAY PUNCH learnt, might have changed their zoning formula to ensure that the selection of Osinbajo would not hurt their chances at the polls. Osinbajo, a former Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, is a native of Ikenne, Ogun State in the South-West. His wife, Dolapo, is a granddaughter of the first Premier of the Western Region and foremost Yoruba politician, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It was learnt that the PDP was jolted by the APC’s choice of Osinbajo as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) Following the zoning o ...

Confusion over list of PDP candidates BY OLUSOLA FABIYI National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu'azu said there is confusion in the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party over the list of the winners of the party’s recently conducted primaries across the country. While the outcome of the primaries have seen different aspirants claiming victory in the same election, others said there were no such exercises in their states For example, a former National Chairman of the party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, is claiming victory over the outcome of the primary in the Enugu North Senatorial District. His claim was however contrary to the results submitted by the electoral panel led by Senator Anthony Manzo, which declared Chukwuka Utazi as the candidate. At the Manzo- supervised election, which was held at the Government Field, Nsukka, Utazi polled 324 votes, to beat Nwodo who scored four votes. Dr. Martin Oke scored three votes. But at another primary, Nwodo was pronounc ...

General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sam Nda-Isaiah and you are the leading presidential aspirants in the APC. How is this situation being handled for the sake of the party in the coming general election? We are communicating with one another. Atiku and I have been together for over two decades. We were both under the political leadership of the late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. We were together during the constitutional conference, in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now APC. I consider him as an elder brother. Although Muhammadu Buhari and I had never been in the same party until APC, I have always respected him. We will continue to communicate as a family. We will agree on what to do, whether to leave it for one person or go to the primary. Whichever way, I want to assure you that whoever among us eventually emerges, we will rally round him to ensure that the party succeeds because the success of APC is not only for the party members, but also for the country. We have seen wha ...

Ogun Labour Party Chairman defects to PDP The Labour Party Chairman in Ogun State, Niyi Osoba, has resigned as the party’s leader in the state and decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. This happened a day after former Ogun state governor, Gbenga Daniel, officially announced his defection to PDP. Osoba, who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES Thursday morning, said his resignation was his personal decision, and that his move to PDP was not at the insistence of Daniel or Olusegun Mimiko, the Ondo State governor who also defected from LP to PDP. According to him, “I resigned my position individually with the interest of Ogun people. If Gbenga Daniel is in PDP and I’m in PDP, it is a coincidence. “Ogun people deserve a better government and my movement is to ensure that the present administration is replaced with a better one,” he told PREMIUM TIMES. The former defecting LP Chairman, however, refused to speak on the party’s scheduled National Convention in Akure, Ondo State on Saturday and was equal ...
The crisis in All Progressives Congress in Ogun State deepened on Sunday as one of the Special Advisers to the Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Mrs. Abimbola Lanre-Balogun; defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. Lanre-Balogun, was Special Adviser on Environment to the governor until Thursday last week, when she resigned her appointment. Explaining the reason for her defection, at a PDP stakeholders meeting at the Goodluck Jonathan Political Centre in Ijebu-Igbo, Lanre- Balogun, said she was tired of enduring the style of governance being adopted by Amosun, which she described as “family affair.” She further alleged that Amosun was “running a government of me, myself and my family.” Lanre-Balogun told journalists shortly after her defection that her passion to work for the good people of the state necessitated the action, alleging that the Amosun-led administration had made her redundant. She said, “I have been in this government (Amosun’s) since inception. I was sworn in as Special Adviser on Envi ...
• APC In Disarray As Key Leaders Leave In Droves!!! Unless it does something drastic, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nigeria’s main opposition party, may implode before the 2015 general election, which are only six months away, PREMIUM TIMES’ extensive analysis of the situation within the party has shown. The party, which is barely one year old, has found it extremely difficult to halt the exit of key members in rapid succession to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and also to resolve internal disputes within its state chapters, which have festered for months. Checks showed that in the last eight months, no fewer than seven key members of the Joint Inter-Merger Committee, JIMC, the central body that supervised the fusion of some hitherto opposition parties, have left the party, either due to irreconcilable differences with fellow leaders or to pursue other political ambitions. The APC was formed last year following the successful merger talks between the Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] ...
Cardinal John Onaiyekan Cautions President Jonathan Overy Calling Opposition & Critics Boko Haram. According to The Nation, while speaking about the political insinuations surrounding the insurgency issue in the country, the cleric was quoted saying as he spoke on Rockcity 101.9 FM Abeokuta, Ogun State: "The issue of the politicisation is very serious and dangerous, where the party in government sees anybody who doesn’t agree with them as the Boko Haramist that are out to destroy the nation. What this means is that, if you do not agree with me, or if you are not in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), you don’t love Nigeria…" Onaiyekan stated that such attitude would not help to advance Nigeria and handle its current challenges. He claimed that disagreements between the parties don’t mean lack of love for the country. He also criticized the opposition over the same issue saying they consider themselves "the only ones who love Nigeria". The cleric also lamented about Goodluck Jonathan’s informatio ...

AMOSUN WINS ROUND 1 BUT AT WHAT COST? As you all would have heard, the factional leader of Ogun State APC loyal to Amosun was inaugurated alongside others from states across the federation in time for next weekend's convention of the All Progressive Congress. Ilese News Extra was granted front row seat during the discussions that led to the decision. Chief Bisi Akande was not 100% for this decision but it was Asiwaju Tinubu who pushed for the decision to inaugurate Alhaji Roqeeb with others. The major reasons why Amosun's factional leader was inaugurated was because of Ogun State's indebtedness to Tinubu via a loan collected by Amosun following the inability to get a N19billion loan of bondage approved by the Ogun State House of Assembly. Tinubu also told those seated that it was only an incumbent governor that could sponsor an election on the party's behalf by using state funds to prosecute the elections and not a Former Governor in Chief Osoba. The third reason that saw Tinubu finally agree to approve . ...

Amosun should be voted out — Ogun PDP OCTOBER 13, 2013 BY SEGUN OLATUNJI 8 Comments Publicity Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State, Mr. Waliu Oladipupo Two years into the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Ogun State, the leading opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed Amosun’s All Progressives C0ngress government as a failure. The PDP speaks through its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Waliu Oladipupo, in this interview with SEGUN OLATUNJI How will you *** the performance of the Amosun-led administration in the past two years? The performance of the Governor Ibikuble Amosun-led administration has been everything but inspiring. At inception, the government held a lot of promises for the people; it had a lot of goodwill as a result of the mistakes made by his predecessor who was a member of our party. But since then, what do we have? It has been high on promises and low in service delivery. Indeed, a highly-placed member of his party, former deputy gov .. ...
2015: Ex-PDP Governors, Candidates, Ministers Declare Support For Jonathan’s Reelection Bid Some Former Governors and governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday said it would be against natural justice to deny President Goodluck Jonathan a second term in 2015 just as they vowed to unveil a pet project to support the realization of his reelection bid. The group of politicians under the aegis of G13 Candidates/Former PDP Governors’ Forum also said the failures of previous administrations should not be blamed on the Goodluck/Sambo administration. The convener of the Forum and former PDP candidate in the 2012 Edo governorship elections, Major-General Charles Arhiavbere, who spoke to newsmen after their meeting in Abuja, said: “The constitution provides for eight years for every office and I believe that going by natural justice, if there is a tenant in a house and it is going for sale the first opportunity of refusal should go to the occupant. “And I believe that based on ...
2015: Jonathan’s Ambition Deepens PDP’s Trouble. Baraje faction: his bid ‘dangerous’ Ex-governors back President The President is yet to announce his plan to run for another term, but his perceived ambition is overheating the polity. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan said in New York on Monday that the constitution provides for “maximum of eight years for anyone who wants to become a president of a governor”. To many, this is an indication that he plans to run – against the stand of some leading lights of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who believe that such a step will weaken Nigeria’s unity. The New PDP – a group of seven governors and some party chiefs who are against Jonathan’s yet unannounced bid – advised him yesterday to dump the idea. But a forum of Former Governors said the President should be allowed to exercise his right to run. The Abubakar Baraje-led PDP called on Jonathan not to seek re-election in 2015. The faction said it decided to advise Jonathan not to run, after reviewing ...

What are your grievances against the government in power? AFTER two years, you cannot tell us exactly what transpired. We have records of the years preceding this government. No Bond was taken. No Bond, underlined, because the mantra this present ACN government preached then was “Bond is bondage.” But this government now, despite that mantra, has received various Bonds and incurred various debts, which they haven’t explained. The last government had overdraft, which at the end of its tenure, was less than incoming monies from various sources, such as allocations and so on. In fact, this government inher ...
