How Amosun plans to turn 7,000 Ogun University students to drop-outs The governor of Ogun State promised to reduce the tuition fees of the school in his election campaign. The current face-off between the students of the state-owned Olabisi Onabanjo University and the Ibikunle Amosun led Ogun State Government over the payment of the back-log of school fees owed by the students and the policy by the government that only those who have paid their fees up to date will be eligible to write the harmattan semester examination of the 2012/2013 academic session is one that has been overshadowed by the propaganda of the state, hence the need to put the records straight. The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Saburi Adesanya, in reaction to the protest by the students over the crisis on Monday, 20th May, 2013 had said that the regularization was in line with the Federal Government’s directive through the National Universities Commission, NUC, requesting all universities to provide a comprehensive students ...
Why is it difficult to resolve the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) crisis before you ordered the closure of the school? "In a more decent environment, my predecessor would not be in a state to be walking around freely, grandstanding and spreading false information to cover up the obvious lack of planning manifest in the administration he headed. In one fell swoop, he created four tertiary institutions and raised the number of tertiary institutions owned by Ogun State Government to 10. Even Lagos with all the money has just five. He then funded them for two months and stopped and then accumulated debts of unpaid salary and subventions. We came in and inherited all manners of debt. In Olabisi Onabanjo University alone, he left a debt of N1.8bn. For eight years, the OOU couldn’t hold any convocation because they couldn’t process results of students. We have to clear all the backlog of unpaid salary and allowances. We held convocation for over 40,000 graduates in one fell swoop. Every government around ...

The next time you see Ebenezer Obey that great juju musician and now gospel artist, you are to address him as professor Ebenezer Obey, the award was given to him by Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun state. But am a little bit confused here, why, because all this while i think the award is only for the lecturer who lecture in the higher institution, that it is given to lecturer who have embark on so many research work and that the award is the highest grade/award in the university. Notwitstanding, congratulation prof. Ebenezer Obey.

When Adesola (not real name) gained admission to study Accounting at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun state in 2010 her joy knew no bounds. The last two years have been challenging for the family. Right after she finished her secondary school education in 2008 she lost her father to the cold hands of death and the responsibility to cater for her needs and that of her only brother was automatically placed on her mother. Even though things were not so bad for the family as the income for sustenance was being generated from the medium sized stationery store built by the father few months before his death, the fear of placing the whole responsibility on her mum and the unending accusation and counter accusation from family members especially from her paternal linage on the possibility of her mother being responsible for the death of her father was unbearable and traumatic. So even though she was offered admission in 2009, she deferred. Desola stood by her mother during the period of mourning, she helpe ...

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, in a statement issued in Abeokuta also said the governor has promised that all other outstanding arrears would be paid without delay. He stated that Amosun- led administration inherited a backlog of arrears from the immediate past administration, adding, however, that it had prioritised payment of wages, cleared the backlog and restored normalcy to wages administration. Adeoluwa stated that in-spite of significant life- changing infrastructure development initiatives going on across the state, the 32-month-old government does not owe workers’ salaries and noted that the State is one of the very first to show commitment to paying the new minimum wage ...
Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, maintained contradictory positions on events surrounding the 10 January 2009 attempted assassination of his former Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Wale Adedayo, at a Shagamu High Court on Thursday, as he insisted the attack was a fiction manufactured by the victim. Daniel had gone to court seeking redress for alleged libel contained in an account of the attack, “Micro-seconds away from death,” written by Adedayo and published by Journal Communications Limited. Represented in court by Prof. Taiwo Osipitan, SAN, the former governor wants N500 million as damages claiming the accounts in the book were flawed. Responding to questions from counsel for the defence, Mr. Olumide Fusika, the former governor feigned ignorance of the attack despite acknowledging evidence through an electronic mail (e-mail) that former Commissioner for Information & Orientation, Mr. Kayode Samuel, and Security Adviser, Alhaji Lamidi Odulawa, along with former Olabisi Onabanjo University ...

Cashless policy boosts enterprise — Osho Anthonia Osho, 27, the founder of Toniques, a clothing store, tells DAYO OKETOLA, the importance of a business plan for the overall survival of a new business, among other issues What is your educational background and why did you choose to go into business? I have a science background. I hold a BSc in Microbiology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State. I delved into business unconsciously while I was in a boarding student in the secondary school. I would trade some of my provisions that I didn’t like for money or by barter. My parents are into business in their various professions, and as a child growing up, I was very eager to help out and run errands for them. This was where I got the exposure. I started going to Lagos Island to get supplies for my dad’s company. And from there, I noticed other goods and services around Lagos. When friends told me they needed some things, I helped to get them until I realised I could buy most of their e ...
An injury to one is an injury to all An oouite wrote OOU Medical Campus, Sagamu, on FIRE gained admission into Olabisi Onabanjo University in 2005, and I'm still in school. My Matric Number therefore is 050*, but I'm still in 500 Level- not even final year! Yet I'm not in school because I repeated, neither did I resit. I'm still in school because I'm in Nigeria, because I'm in Ogun State, because I'm in OOU. I didn't get here by lack of somewhere else, (lest you say beggars can't be choosers). I could have gone to any University in Nigeria. (My results were tenable anywhere in Nigeria.) It was therefore not a dearth of options, it was not a lack of acceptance anywhere else, it was a matter of (imposed) choice. father had learnt that OOU HAD the best Medical School in the country (as it did a baker's-dozen years ago), and made me come here. Little did he know that after the crest came the trough, that after the zenith came the nadir, that after the peak came the depth. And that's where we are NOW. mates ...

NEWS:(NIGERIA) Authentication: How OOU students’ unrest was arrested Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, is one of the Ogun State-owned citadels of learning. The 30 year-old institution, no doubt, has produced great Nigerians who have made their marks in all spheres of human endeavours. The institution, formerly known as Ogun State University (OSU), was established with the vision of producing great achievers. Over 60, 000 students have graduated from the school which is being run as a multi- campus institution. Records have it that the institution in the late 80’s and early 90’s had recorded many firsts in the fields of law and medicine. The products of the school then were sought after by employers of labour. The school became famous because of the academic feats achieved by both students and academic staff, but things started to fall apart due to the falling standard of infrastructure and also alleged poor management on the part of previous administrators of the school.
