My quarrel with Obasanjo over –Atiku Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the quarrel between him and his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo is over. Atiku also said that he did not harbour any “hatred or enmity” against the former President. The former VP spoke on Tuesday, in Abuja, when he granted audience to the leaders of the Northern Youth Leaders Forum, a group that recently embarked on a mission to settle the quarrel between the former President and his deputy. The group, led by one Eliot Afiyo, had some weeks back met with Obasanjo in his Ota farm, in Ogun State, during which the ex-President announced that he had forgiven his former deputy. Both Obasanjo and Atiku ruled the country together as numbers one and two between 1999 and 2007 but the two were at loggerheads towards the end of their tenure over the former’s alleged third-term agenda, which contradicted his deputy’s ambition to become the president. “I don’t harbour any grudge against my former boss. Udoh, who noted that President Goodluck Jonathan, unlike his predecessors, has made available funds saved in the Excess Crude Account, insisted, “The question goes beyond are states judiciously using the money? It is rather, are citizens holding state and Local Governments to account? That is the critical question.” Udoh, who was speaking during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, maintained that the comments made by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during 12th convocation of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, “is nothing new”. He said that the Minister, during her first tenure under the Obasanjo administration was known to publish local and sta ...
TOO LATE FOR OBASANJO TO PLAY THE GOD FATHER. There is no need for Obasanjo to begin to play the Ostrich now knowing that the truth concerning Boko Haram and their real sponsors is centimeters away from us. I thought they were spirits before when the olive branch was extented to. Jonathan should allow the Americans finish the job they were invited to do and tell Nigerians the truth about their findings. They are being jittery lest they be exposed. If Nigerian soldiers cannot not rescue the girls Americans can and I did not see any reason for this emergency panic from the pretenders. We will identify the problems before tackling it. Call it tribalism its your business. When they massacred 30,000 innocent Igbos in the North that was what instigated the war. Call the Admin stupid, but they are better than you. At least you owe a PHD and you can't organize a forum like these. Very very ashamed with some people that called themselves Igbo. They go to the west and can speak Yoruba but can't speak their own language. I did my Secondary education in the West in a Federal Government College. They offered only Yoruba language among the the subjects. It was in SS1 they introduced Hausa. The school precisely in Ogun State. What a form of tribalism in a government established institution. It shows how the Federal Government have been so wicked to the Igbo race. Yet some fools say the admin is tribalist. No apology here. This is one reason Gov. Rochas has made it compulsory for all Imo State indigene to pass Igbo in WAEC to gain admission in any Imo State owned institution. Do you know why Mrs. Ro ...

Chairman of the Technical Committee of the NCP, Atedo Peterside, announced this to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday shortly after the Council ended its meeting chaired by Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa. Peterside explained that the Geregu Plant is currently valued at over $600 million, more than the $549 million it was valued at in 2007 when the Federal Government began negotiations to sell only 51 per cent equity of the plant to the same firm. Equally approved for sale as part of the plans to privatise the nation's power generation are Omotosho (Ondo State) and Olorunsogo (Ogun State) plants to the Chinese firms. he development of science and technology constitutes a key part of the process of modernization. The more this development occurs locally, the better for the society concerned. In realization of this, various Governments and even corporate bodies have continued to make significant investments in the development of indigenous capacities in science and technology. The establishment of Moshood Abiola (formerly Ogun State) Polytechnic was necessitated by the Federal Government white paper on National Policy on Education, which declared that: technical education forms the basis of technological development and as such, a greater proportion of educational expenditure would continually be devoted to technical education by government, both at the Federal and State levels. Besides, the Ogun State Government believes that the development of technical manpower is one of the reasonable investments that a nation can embark upon in a programme of nation and society transformation. THERE IS FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN.. OGUN STATE PEOPLE, WHERE ARE YOU ? Whoever says Senator Ibikunle Onifilagogoro is God fearing must have been judging him from the false pretence of a noble man he puts up whenever he's in the public. Information from a reliable source has it that bags of rice that was allocated to Ogun state flood victims by the Federal Government of Nigeria were shared among ACN party members. This was how our dear governor converted buses allocated to Ogun State from the subsidy reinvestment scheme by the Federal government to BMT, stylishly claiming to the illiterate folks that he purchased the buses. However, @ the 1st sitting of this year today, the OGHA has a fresh Bond worth N50 billion request on its table for approval. To secure the approval of the house on the fresh Bond, our dear governor has decided to award one of ACN leaders who was a governor in Ogun State a mouth watering contract just to have the support of his loyalist in OGHA. He who makes love to his wife and wears innoc ...

The gesture means a lot to me - increased access to tertiary education, job opportunities, increased development of academic culture in the affected states, infrastructural development with all the attendant positive effects etc. For whatever reason, I say thank you Mr President!

T hey alleged that Obasanjo cornered appointments and other benefits from the Federal Government for his Owu people without giving any chance to other PDP members. , Lai Mohammed of the ACN has started preparing the grounds for the party’s rejection of the election in Ondo State by raising unfounded alarm as his stock in trade. Lai knows quite well that this party can never win that state gubernatorial election. Let him be told that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians have transcended those primordial sentiments of “omo wa ni eje o se” syndrome and issues like integration of the south west. ACN is predominantly a Youruba party. Just forget the Edo State situation. ACN is ruling that state due to the character of that state governor and not due to the influence of people like Tinubu and Akande and by the way today’s Edo State was part of the West before the emergence of the then Mid-West which was actually created by Tafawa Balewa’s led Federal Government to reduce Awolowo’s area of influence. If not for OBJ’s egos, the ACN could never have won Ogun State, the same with Akala and those in the Senate from that state and we all know that ACN is in power in Oshun ...

By the time all the 10 National Integrated Power Projects are completed, the Federal Government would have spent a total of $8bn (N1.26tn) on them. Currently, four of the projects have been completed, while six others are 80 to 90 per cent completed. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, Mr. Jame Olotu, said this during the unveiling of the Ayobo transmission station in Lagos on Friday, which is expected to add 150 MVA capacity to Lagos and part of Ogun State, up to Abeokuta. The completed NIPPs are: Omotosho in Ondo State, 451 megawatts; Olorunsogo, Ogun State, 750MW; Sapele, Delta State, 451MW; and Alaoji, Abia State, 1,074MW. Those close to completion are the Ihovbor project in Edo State with capacity for 451MW; Geregu, Kogi State, 434MW; Egbema, Imo State, 338MW; Gbarain, Bayelsa State, 225MW; Omoku, Rivers State, 225MW; and Calabar, Cross River State, 561MW. “In totality, Nigerians have contributed $8bn to build 10 power generation plants, which a ...
Mr. Adenuga’s company, which was once accused of tax evasion, has been accused of being behind the current fuel scarcity. Nigerian billionaire, Mike Adenuga, through his company, Conoil Plc, is one of those behind the fuel scarcity being experienced in Abuja, the Federal Government has said. Mr. Adenuga is not alone in this alleged misdemeanour, according to Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Companies owned by other wealthy Nigerians such as Eterna Oil, whose directors are Mahmud Tukur, son of Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, and Fola Adeola, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the last presidential elections; and MRS Oil and Gas, believed to be owned by businessman Sayyu Dantata were also found to be instigators of the fuel crisis. Mr. Adenuga, listed by Forbes Magazine as one of the world’s richest billionaires, is not new to controversy. In 2009, the Ogun State born businessman was indicted by Nigerian tax authorities. The Federal Inlan ...

Punch FG decides on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway next week August 10, 2012 by Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja Federal Government will take a final decision on the concessioning of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway next week. The expressway had earlier been concessioned to Bi-Courtney Highway Services. However, years after the concessioning, work has not started on the road, which daily claims lives through auto crashes and robberies. The situation led to the call by stakeholders, including Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and other South-West governors to call for the revocation of the concession agreement. Speaking with State House correspondents on Thursday after making a presentation to President Goodluck Jonathan on the budget performance of his ministry, Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, said government would take a decision on the road because of its importance to the economy. He said, “The Lagos Ibadan Expressway is very topical. A meeting was held on Tuesday with the President on the issue. We are also e ...

Nigerians Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Drugs The court has sentenced a Nigerian to life imprisonment for the possession of cannabis sativa. It is said in the last six months, the command has been able to seize about 3.5 tonnes of this drug from traffickers. “The judge applied the law the way it is and it’s a way of deterring other people that even if it is one gramme, the law is there to catch up with you,” said the Ogun State Commander of the NDLEA, Mohammed Mohammed. Two others, the agency said, were convicted and sentenced to different jail terms for illicit drug-related offences, while it seized 3.5 tonnes of drugs worth about N25m within the same period. Mohammed appealed to the state and Federal Government to come to the aid of the agency by providing it with the tools that would enhance its functions.

The alleged action constituted an offence contrary to Section 13(a) of Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and punishable under paragraph (c) of the same section of the Act. Also, their alleged attendance of a meeting of the terrorist network, was an offence under Section 3 (c) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011. Oyedepo warns: Nigeria may break up if Boko Haram is not checked The Chancellor Covenant University (CU), Otta, Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo, has called for a complete overhaul of the nation’s security system against those he called ‘religious bigots’ scheming to Islamise Nigeria through repeated attacks on churches. Oyedepo also urged the Federal Government to be more committed to the insecurity problem, failure of which he noted, may lead to disintegration. “I want to believe that what we have on our hands today is an islamisiation agenda being propagated and sponsored by some religious bigots who are poised for war, and if government does not decisively stem down this tide, Nigeria may cease to be a nation.” In his address themed: Towards the rescue of a nation on the brink of collapse: Necessity for a new generation of thinkers, delivered at the seventh convocation of CU at the university premises yesterday, Oyedepo said consistent attacks by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram (Western ed ...

If Nigeria is to reduce her housing shortfall and meet the new millennium goal, she would need to construct at least 1,000,000 units every year. At an average of per unit, that should translate to about (Trillion) worth of economic activities every year. This amount is more than half of the entire Federal Government budget and should directly create over 1 Million jobs every year with the attendant multiplier effects. All the limestone required for the manufacturing the cement are available in Sokoto. Obajana/Ajaokuta alone is capable of making all the cement. Osun state alone can produce all the Iroko trees for quality timbers. Ogun State alone can provide all the gravels and laterite. ALSCON in Akwa Ibom would produce all the Zincs. All the suppliers of materials, technicians, building experts and labourers would be willing to receive their payment in Nairas. This Naira can be printed in Nigeria. This Naira is money that Nigerians don’t have. So our economic experts would have to help us beg the Worl ...
KEEPING HIM ALIVE Ask govt to validate June 12 polls Govt should declare Abiola President, family insists FAMILY members, rights activists, politicians, government officials and other Nigerians yesterday celebrated the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, Chief MKO Abiola, as they revisited the 19th anniversary of the annulled polls at several fora in some states. Speakers at these events paid tributes to the late politician and proffered several ways he should be honoured by the Federal Government, without prejudice to the recent rechristening of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after him by President Goodluck Jonathan. Despite a downpour in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abiola’s home-town, a crowd led by Governor Ibikunle Amosun gathered at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, after taking a “Democracy Walk” to celebrate the day. According to Amosun, Abiola paid the supreme price for Nigerians “to have democracy. June 12 is a memorable day that can never be forgotten in the history of the nation. If ...

No big deal renaming UNILAG after MKO Abiola. Apart from democracy, sports and community development, Abiola contributed immensely to education in Naija. History had it that in March 1990, he donated N1 million (equivalent of N40 million in 2010) to each state universities, N50, 000 (N2 million in 2010) to each federal university for students’ welfare, N20, 000 (N800, 000 in 2010) to libraries of each of the federal universities and N25, 000 (N1 million in 2010) to each polytechnic and college of education respectively. He constructed 63 secondary schools and 41 libraries. He awarded bursaries to every single student from Ogun State; for every N500 they received from the Federal Government, they received N250 from the business magnate and unsung political hero. What else would he have done to be honored posthumously? I fear Naija people.
Officials of the Ogun State Government yesterday declined comments on the allegation by the Bi-Courtney Highway Services Limited, BHSL, blaming the government over the death of 10 persons in a multiple accident involving nine fuel tankers and sevenother trailers Thursday. Bi-Courtney which is the concessionaire on the road said, it had ‘’created eight temporary trailer parks along the expressway to take care of heavy trucks off the road shoulders,’’ and offered to build permanent trailer parks on the road, but stressed that the government thwarted the move ‘’through the acquisition of land.’’ The officials said that the Southwest governors had taken up the issue of the road with President Goodluck Jonathan, pointing out that there were no comments to make at this time. This is even as it was revealed that the Federal Government said that it needed about N600 billion yearly to increase the total road network from current 193,000 to over 300,000km by 2020. The Minister of Works, Mike Onolem ...
Former Ogun State Deputy Governor Adegbenga Kaka has warned that the proposed electricity tariff could trigger violence in the country. The increase will begin on June 1. He said this on Tuesday during the activities to mark his 60th birthday and the inauguration of the Adegbenga Sefiu Kaka Foundation in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. Kaka, who represents Ogun East in the National Assembly, therefore called on the Federal Government to shelve the plans, saying it was against national development. According to him, it will be callous and insensitive for the government to expect ordinary Nigerians to continue to subsidise its inefficiency in the power sector by raising electricity charges. The senator said, “We need good leadership. We want a situation whereby electricity will work. The multiplier effect of electricity is employment generation and artisanal work productivity. “It is so enormous. But in a situation whereby we don’t have such a thing that is taken for granted in other climes, that it is a ...
I'm still wondering, why on earth should the Federal Government of Nigeria deploy armed police men to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos? Is it because common Nigerians want to use the park to compel the FG to punish those indicted in the report of the Farouk Lawan Ad Hoc Committee? Is this not their constitutional right? To worsen it, a police armoured tank was stationed close to the park. Is this not madness, some parts of country have been taken over by armoured tanks when it is obvious we are not at war? Go to Oshodi and Iyana Ipaja in Lagos State and close to Iwo Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, you will see armoured tanks. Are we at war? Recently the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun purchased new armoured tanks "to fight crime." (not war). Is it not patrol vans, arms, intelligence information gathering, logistics, etc that are needed to fight crime? When are were going to get it right?
