LEADERSHIP: D meaning of d power of Vision. Dubai was built in less than 20 yrs & d father of Dubai Sheikh Moh'd Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum has this to say: "What u see in Dubai today is nothing compared to my ultimate vision for Dubai" [In his book- My vision, challengees in d race for excellence] D question here is, if Dubai has not started yet, then we'll kip wondering what Al-Maktoum plans for Dubai. That's what vision is all abt. D most important thing to knw is that, things can be done. If u want things to b done, d only thing is to find d person that wants to do it. We have them b4 in d person of Sardauna Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Gen Murtala Mohammed, Gen Buhari & Idiagbon. etc. Visionary leaders. And we can still get pple like them, that can transform Nigeria. Al-Maktoum said: " d race for excellence has no finish line".
SPEECH DELIEVERED BY OTUNBA (DR.) GANI ADAMS AT THE FORMAL LAUNCHING OF OODUA PROGRESSIVE UNION (AUSTRIA CHAPTER) ON SATURDAY 16TH AUGUST 2014. I am particularly excited to welcome you all to this historic event of the inauguration of Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) in Austria. I am happy because the last time I was in Europe for the launch of the OPU in the UK, Germany and Holland, I made a promise to come back for the launch of the organization in other European countries. Today marks the fulfillment of that promise. It is a turning-point in the annals of Yoruba nation. We gather here to witness a rebirth of our age-long cultural uniqueness, socio-intellectual assets, amazing civilization and uncommon unity, all of which have combined to make us the envy of all other people in Nigeria and the world in general. It is clear from all indications that the Yoruba nation is gradually losing those attributes that once made us the envy of all. Since the passing onto glory of late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the ...

Maitama Sule writes Jonathan, warns of disastrous consequences A former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Alhaji Maitama Sule, on Monday called on Nigerians to put the nation’s interest above their personal interest. The ex-diplomat added that he had written a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and the governors, warning of what he called disastrous consequences if the prevailing trend in the country was not arrested. Sule made the call when the Arewa Youth Development Foundation paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Kano. The elder statesman said, “That was what our founding fathers like Zik, Obafemi Awolowo, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sardauna, Aminu Kano and Tarka did. “These leaders belonged to different political parties, tribes and religion, but they lived and worked together because the unity of the country was their main interest. “About two weeks ago, I wrote to the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and his colleagues. I also wrote to Mr President abo ...

Why We Should Split Nigeria Now. Sardauna of Sokoto and Obafemi Awolowo used to be good friends. They visited each other a lot and Sardauna was very keen to implement Awolowo’s policies only if he told him before hand. Once NPC won the December 1951 Northern regional elections, it was AG which had won the Western Region’s elections two months earlier that it congratulated and extended alliance to at the Central House slated to open in February 1952. The North was never interested in partnering with Zik, NCNC, or the Igbos. While Zik and the Eastern region were embroiled over the Prof Eyo Ita and the six sit-tight ministers, Awolowo and Sardauna continued to strengthen their alliance. The first branch of AG outside the Western Region was formed in Kano on 4th October 1952. Awolowo assured the jittery Northern rulers that the move was not a threat and he went on to deliver several lectures on government by federation in which he did not criticise Northern leadership at all. In 1960, the late Sir Ahmadu Bello said “The new nation called Nigeria should be an estate of our great-grandfather, Uthman Dan Fodio. We must ruthlessly prevent a change of power. We use the minorities of the North as willing tools and the South as a conquered territory and never allow them to rule over us, and never allow them to have control over their future.” (Parrot Newspaper, 12th Oct. 1960; republished on November 13, 2002, by the Tribune Newspaper, Ibadan.); The Conference of Northern Chiefs, in response to a letter from the UK-based West African Students’ Union (WASU) to the Northern emirs asking them to support the constitutional evolution of Nigeria into an independent nation, had declared “holding this country together is not possible except by means of the religion of the Prophet. If they want political unity let them follow our religion.” (Obafemi Awolowo, Path to Nigerian Freedom, London: Faber and Faber, 1947, p.51.); During military rule in the 1970s Christian missionary school ...
Opinion: Our attitude towards Nigeria by Sabella Abidde Why bother to faithfully serve this country when at the sunset of your life, she is likely to abandon you? Why? We are also a nation without heroes. New heroes, that is. Aminu Kano, Bala Usman, and Ayodele Awojobi are all gone. M.C.K. Ajuluchukwu, Obafemi Awolowo, and Tai Solarin all left us a while back In democratic and non-democratic settings, citizens relate to their countries in different ways. In democracies, for instance, people tend to invest more goodwill and other tangible and intangible resources in the affairs of their country. In general, they love their country more than any other country in the world. And it shows! They join formal and informal organisations whose main duty is to safeguard the nation’s integrity. They also take it upon themselves to positively project their nation’s image; and help extend its sovereignty and lifespan. Simply put, they have a stake in the survival and the continued existence of their country – e . ...
May the heaven be the last abode of Late sir Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and the great Abdallah who with their fruithfull effort made Nigeria a history. Continuation Of Bode Thomas History: Olabode Akanni Thomas was extremely capable and extremely controversial. He had great accomplishments under his belt before he was 30 years old. Most of the people he ‘cohorted’ with, whether in the course of professional, social, political or traditional engagements were either years older than him or years behind him in achievements. We can view the not so endearing characterization of him as arrogant or haughty from this perspective, even if not excusable. From a privileged mercantile background, he breezed through CMS Grammar School in Lagos and went on to the UK become a lawyer at the age of 23 which was astounding in those days. Bode Thomas was enrolled at the Nigerian Bar in 1942. That was 4 years before Obafemi Awolowo (1946) and 8 years before Ladoke Akintola (1950). He was reputed to be strong-willed and goal-focused, quickly cutting through legal bunkum to espouse essence. Bode Thomas found cerebral professional soul-mates in Rotimi Williams (enrolled 1 ...
It’s miscellaneous time again! As almost always, two matters are jostling for attention as they demand equal recognition. Here we go… 1.Government, they say, is a continuum. No, the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has appeared to differ in his campaign for re-election which now enjoys prominent footage on major television stations. “Support and vote for me so that I can finish what I started,” Fayemi told his supporters in the footage. Fayemi apparently doesn’t reckon that iconic figures like Martin Luther King Jnr, Mahatma Ghandi and even his hero, Obafemi Awolowo, became famous for laying the foundation while their successors built on it. Fayemi would deviate by laying his foundation and building the house, thereby turning the continuum factor upside down! 2. Days have gone by since the disgraced former Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi became the Emir of Kano. Yet, not a congratulatory message has been dispatched to Sanusi from the Presidency; a very dangerous precedent in all r ...
HOW GULLIBLE ARE SOME NIGERIANS? This country has really lost real patriots who believe in a genuine cause and are ready to die for it. Is amazing that no media house, social media activists, public analysts, commentators, reporters, etc dare mention the over 200 Chibok girls suffering pains and humiliation in the hands of terrorists at Sambisa forest in Borno state. So all of a sudden, the whole attention has been shifted to an unimportant activities like turbaning of an emir? What a generation of gullible Nigerians? If Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Sarduana of Sokoto, Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ernest Okoli, Eyo Ita and other distinguish patriots were reasoning the same way we do today, Nigeria wouldn't have gotten independence. Really, I am amaze. May the soul of those great patriots rest in peace. May we all wake up from our slumber and face the real issues of life for the progress of our country Nigeria.
WHO DO WE DESERVE IN KWARA STATE? leader or SERVANT In order to become the master, the politician poses as the servant (Charles de Gaulle). If we love our state, we should also love our statemen. Kwara state is blessed with rich people, rich in culture and rich in resources but we have bad people as leaders. Obafemi Awolowo said ( lecture at the university of lagos, 1968); the touchstone of what is good, be it though, words, or action is LOVE. We are to love our neighbours as ourselve. That's the law and the prophet. Anything therefore--any thought or word or action which falls short of love is EVIL and holds within itself the germs of its own eventual and inevitable destruction. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thought events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinarily result. Any man who has to take up the service of the govt must ask himself two questions; do I love my people in order to serve them? Am I humble and do I listen to everybody to diverse opinions in ...

NIGERIA BEING ONE COUNTRY - A sheer lie & self deceit of yesteryears: the need for Yoruba Republic, Part2. ... By Kehinde Balogun "Chief Awolowo had one singular fault: it was to think pan-Nigeria; he believed that the poor of the North and the poor of the South shared a common misery and common oppressors. (While) He believed in excellence, he believed in hard work and he believed in the rule of law. The oppressors of the North did not and they still do not. They have continued to capture the federal judiciary and the army (as well as the electoral commissions)" The above caption was said precisely 20 years ago, even when there was nothing called bokoharam... "NIGERIA GLORIOSUS DAWN" Over thirty-five ago, Chief Obafemi Awolowo began his political career. It is an eventful career in which his reputation has risen with each successive decade. He returned from Britian after completing his legal studies to found Action Group in 1951. He become the leader of the A.G, the Party described by scholars of Nigeria political as the most well-organized and disciplined. The party controlled the legislature of the Western Region, and Chief Awolowo became the leader of Government business and subsequently the first premier of the region. Under his leadership, from 1951-1959, the west became the most progressive region in the federation of Nigeria. As member of the Nigerian Youth Movement, he Oganized the Ibadan branch of the association and distiriguished himself as a man of uncompromising principles. Indeed, it was the political laboratory of Nigeria, while new ideals emerged and were tested before their eventual adoption by the remaining regions and the federal government ...
A former Security Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government, Chief Richard Kpodoh weekend said the Boko Haram campaign of terror in some parts of the Northern states is targeted at stopping President Goodluck Jonathan from declaring his intention to run for second term in 2015. According to Kpodoh, though the decision to declare or not to declare to run in the 2015 Presidential election lies with President Goodluck Jonathan, the dangerous tactics of using insecurity as a tool of blackmail against the rising profile of President Goodluck Jonathan will not hold waters as he will be forced by the peace loving populace to run for second term in office. Chief Kpodoh, who served under Goodluck Jonathan administration in Bayelsa State as Senior Special Assistant on Strategy and Policy Monitoring, in a statement in Yenaoa urged President Goodluck Jonathan to shun the dangerous antics of opposition politicians through the sponsored killings by the Boko Haram and declare for re-election. He said:”There is no bette ...

LETS BEGIN TO ACT THE DREAM-AJULO NIGERIA OF MY DREAM: Let’s Begin To Act The Dream By Olukayode Ajulo Greetings I feel greatly elated for the opportunity given me to address this very distinguished audience. I must confess that addressing a gathering of very distinguished Nigerians and non-Nigerians like this is not an easy task at all. But my consolation and encouragement is in the fact that it is a speech about Nigeria, a talk about the Nigeria we are all part of, the country of my passion. With this, I am confident it is all about us all; about what course we can chat for our future, our dear nation – Nigeria. Nigeria is a blessed country. We all understand to a large extent her history, her endowment, her glory, her ups and downs, but I beg to remind you a bit of it before proceeding. It gained her independence in 1960 and attained republican status in 1963. It is a heterogeneous country with diversity of cultures and tribes of about 250 ethnic nationalities with the Yoruba, Igbo and the Hausa-Fu ...
Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth! "I say unto you, that there will be no genuine peace in this country, unless, in the main, the war against grinding poverty, hunger, preventable diseases, squalo r,and ignorance among the masses of our people,is waged throughout the land, with the same united purpose, patriot ism,and grim determination as we had against secession. It is perhaps, not generally realized that,in all history, the root causes of rebellion and violent discontent are evils which I have enumerated.A s far as I can discern, the aggressors against peace and stability in Nigeria are abject poverty, hunger and diseases, squalo r,and ignorance. They are more devastating in their ravages, more insidious, more thorough, and more resistant in their operations than any armed rebellion. They are the enemies which must be crushed, and crushed totally." - Obafemi Awolowo (Public Lecture,May 1970 in Ibadan)
Nda-Isaiah advocates adequate funding of military, police May 26, 2014by Friday Olokor, Abuja Leave a Comment The Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Newspapers, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah, has called on the Federal Government to promptly fund the military and other security agencies to be able to fight insurgency in the country. He also expressed concern over the educational crises in the country saying free education was possible to right some wrongs. According to him, because of the neglect given to Nigerian education a few years ago “we have people who are unemployable.” The Presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress also recalled his days at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, saying the institution was a defining part of his success and fulfillment in life. Nda-Isaiah studied Pharmacy at OAU and left in 1983. He stated these in an interview with journalists on Sunday evening after hosting the May meeting of the Abuja branch of OAU Alumni Association. At the occasion, h . ...
TRUE FEDERALISM: THE ONLY WAY FORWARD TO A FLAWED AND SKEWED ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP. Those who care to hear the truth by the true leaders of the past, read the quotes from three shapers of the Nigerian State: 1. Tafawa Balewa in 1948 said “..Since 1914 the British Government has been trying to make Nigeria into one country, but the Nigerian people themselves are historically different in their backgrounds, in their religious beliefs and cudtoms and do not show themselves any signs of willingness to unite….Nigerian unity is only a British invention”. Are we not at the same point 64 years since Balewa voice the truth about Nigeria? 2. Obafemi Awolowo said in 1947 that “…Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression. There are no ‘Nigerians’ in the same sense as there are ‘English’, ‘Welsh’, or ‘French’. The word ‘Nigerian’ is a distinctive appellation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria and those who do not”. Is not true of today’s N ...
It is so sad that there is constant attack on the Obafemi Awolowo University,i could remember there is a time in 2011 when the acceptance Fee was increased to 20 thousand then,we went to bank to stop the freshers from paying, but their response was that they have been in the house for so long, therefore the would pay the fee,now The lesson is that a little injustice accepted breed bigger problem.NOW weak SUG is being installed and with that the Management launch the attack to increase the school Fees..
I AM TIRED OF THIS COUNTRY What a country we are, if we manage and struggle to get what belongs to us as right "EDUCATION" and government are seriously depriving us from getting it. Nigerian Government as not been considering the welfarism of Students' but painstakingly skyrocket the tuition fees and neglect the subventions into the Educational System. The set of Government Office holders' today are those who benefit from the free education Programmes introduce by Late (chief) Obafemi AWOLOWO but now believing in tuition fees and neglecting the subventions. How many of in Nigeria today can afford private or foreign education as at 70's including their family members? If school fees can be skyrocketed by 300% and above which we're saying NO, while some students' are dropping out of school and some are managing to pay with poor students' welfare package. Based on this struggle, a commercial vehicle kill a student of AAUA Micro-Biology 200 level today in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State with a bike man while police ...
LATE CHIEF Bode Thomas: (61 Years after) He was a nationalist who fought along with other compatriots for independence. But, Chief OlaBode Thomas died seven years before the realisation of that dream. He was barely 34; young, agile and promising. His ideas survived him, serving as beacons of hope for a distraught nation. Deputy Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU revisits the life of a political icon who passed on without realising his full leadership potential. He came, stayed briefly and went back to his maker at the age of 34 years. But, at that prime age, OlaBode Thomas, frontline lawyer, nationalist politician and former Federal Transport Minister, had accomplished what men who lived for a century could not achieve in an entire life time. Fifty-five years after the demise of the Balogun of Oyo, his name continues to ring a bell. The magnetism has endured. The pain of the irreparable loss lingered. It was a black day in the Western Region. Thomas was a colourful political megastar. His speeches in the p ...

FACT TO KNOW ABOUT Bishop Oyedepo and his Wife. It will amaze you to know Bishop David Oyedepo met his wife just as a man will meet a woman. She met him at a Motor Park… She was a University student of Obafemi Awolowo University while he was only a Polytechnic student in Kwara State Poly(Remember the discrimination) – she could have snubbed him – but she responded. His friends complained that he was carrying Christianity too zealously as if he was the only Christian – as a result she became zealous too. He took her to church in 1976 and made her sign an agreement (SAILING UNDER SEALED ORDERS) to marry and follow him whether he becomes blind, lame or handicapped.. and she signed, some ladies would find that difficult to do now. Just before he married her, he told her God had sent him to LIBERATE THE WORLD (while he was still hopping between jobs) and went on to resign his job; his elder brother lambasted him, she stuck to him. He told her God had shown him the key to prosperity – she believed. He ...
OAU Students Protest March to Ife town, photo by DSM Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, numbering over 5, 000, trooped out on 20 May 2014 to protest the astronomical increment of fresh students' fee from N17,000 to about N80,000, (excluding the acceptance fee of N20,000) and the proposed increment of old students' fee. Though, the management has issued a statement that the old students would not be affected by the fee hike, the Students' Union leadership claimed to have seen a document at a meeting with the management that shows the plan to increase the fee from N10, 000 to about N50, 000. After a period of illusion in urging the university management to reconsider its stance, reality of the need to struggle eventually dawned on the students' union leadership, which has declared for a struggle against the vicious increment. After the failed dialogue, the union president convened a congress of students in which Action and Publicity Committees, headed by union leadership, but also ha ...
I am in sombre mood! In May 1966 Northern Nigerians unleashed first wave of chilling gruesome cold blooded murder on unarmed innocent "Eastern Nigerians" mainly my Igbo stock - wasting mainly women, pregnant and those giving sulk to their babies. Pregnant women were slaughtered like cattle and their unborn children reaped out from their wombs as they bled to death! Infants were clubbed to death and our men executed. House to house search were conducted and all places combed by Northern Nigerians hate filled hearts for Igbo nationalities. Igbo people who managed to make it to train stations were were subsequently rounded up at Lokoja, Jebba and Markurdi terminals and executed or thrown into the rivers with their children. As my people were being wasted in the carnage ARABA call swell and resonated in the North. Ironsi government instead of taking measures to protect his people, set out to appease same group bent on removing him and annihilating his own stock. On 29th July 1966, Danjuma with his Northern ar ...

Two-term gov possible in Oyo - Ajimobi The governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has denounced those who canvass that Ibadan people do not serve a governor twice, stating that such people were poor students of history. He made this known on Thursday at the Governor’s Office while swearing-in the 33 Caretaker Chairmen of the state. According to the governor, such people should cross-check their history books and records to discover that the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief S. L. Akintola, Premiers of the Western Region, ruled the West from Ibadan and were given mandates to rule twice by the people. “Those who say they don’t do second term in Oyo State should cross-check the records. Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola did it twice. Those who say Ibadan people don’t serve anyone twice may not be wrong however but are wrong in the context. What they may be referring to is Ibadan and we are not serving Ibadan people alone but the whole of Oyo State. Perhaps, they are r ...

But President Jonathan is no tree. So why is he behaving like one? Why is this man who has been a top civil servant, a University teacher, a deputy governor, a Governor, a Vice president, an Ag. President and President, Commander in Chief of Nigeria's Armed Forces allowing himself to be consigned to the rubbish bin of history? The question millions of Nigerians are asking all over Nigeria is, why is Jonathan doing this to himself? Why? Why? Why? I thought I knew the reason. When Jonathan was elected in 2011, I had a strong foreboding that this would happen. I was prescient in analyzing the socio-political dynamics of power struggle which would ensue. I wanted to sit down and carefully analyse the situation with anyone close to the President. But no one was available. All the parties were in celebration mood. The excitement was ...
THE ORIGIN OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT On Saturday October 18, 1975, the then Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed told the opening session of the 50 man constitution drafting committee at the institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island, Lagos that "Supreme Military Council has carefully discussed and agreed on an executive Presidential system of Government", He said, among other things on that day, that his council "has agreed on an executive Presidential system of Government in which the President and Vice-President are elected, with clearly defined powers and are accountable to the people. We feel that there should be legal provisions to ensure that they are brought into office in such a manner so as to reflect the Federal character of the country". I was present at the event. Of course, when the Supreme Military council has "decided" at that time, who could undecide. That was the origin of our adopting the Presidential System of Government which has so far been operated by fo ...

Is this true? We have studied elected presidents from the time of the second republic with Shehu Shagari, and the military era with Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Buhari and the elected Olusegun Obasanjo and discovered that the style of administration of Goodluck Jonathan in spite of provocation and temptation, has remained calm, cool and collected.” “Under past Presidents, the opposition claim they were bold and decisive could not be proved. Many paid oppositions and genuine critics have lambasted, without facts, some policies of the Jonathan administration and nothing violent and deadly happened to them. The so called bold civilian administrations of Obasanjo and the military era of Buhari and others would have boldly dealt with opposition. “Some of us embarked on criticism against Jonathan administration and nothing evil happened to us.The kind of utterances against Jonathan has never been accommodated by any administration in this country. It is not weakness but an administration style th ...

OKOWA'S CRITICS ARE HIS GREATEST BENEFICIARIES –DAN OFILI-IKA WEEKLY A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwart in Ika North East local government area of Delta State, Mr. Dan Ofili has during the week in an interview at Boji-Boji, Owa commended the Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his outstanding performance as a lawmaker. Mr. Ofili said that he is not surprised at Okowa's performance as a senator as he (Okowa) has since he joined politics has impacted positively and greatly on many lives, pointing out that Okowa's critics are mostly people who have benefitted greatly from his good representation in government. He opined that instead of criticizing a man who has used the opportunities he has in government to better the lives of his people and Ika Nation in general, he should be encouraged so as to spur him to do more. “Okowa should be shown gratitude for the help he is rendering to Ika people and Ika nation too. In as much as I agree with Mr Fani Kayode that Nigeria is fast tracking into becoming a failed state, and with Prof Soyinka, that if the size of Nigeria were like the Federal Capital Territory, President Jonathan would have better managed the hydra headed menace of the Boko Haram insurgency better. Nigeria may be too large for his myopic eyes to cover. However, though I agree with Mr Fani Kayode on the state of Nigeria, I will rather follow the thinking of Soyinka, that the problem is with how the country is been admnistered rather than blaming it on those who think they are "born to rule". Yes! I disagree with Mr Fani Kayode because though we now have a President who may have not been "born to rule", but he has at his disposal the same paraphernalia of office to contribute a difference to the governance of our people as any "born to rule". The group of rascals tagged Boko Haram have been in existence before this present administration. The war that we now face, a war without the rules of engagement, beca ...

THE STATE OF THE UNION To understanding the series of events that followed after the ascendancy of the Falase administration, it is important to understand the psychology of Professor Falase. Professor Falase is one of those ultra- conservative and reactionary professors who believes that students in the university should be in perpetual subservience to the university authorities without an independent voice whatever, irrespective of the backwardness of the university administration. Professor Falase is devoid of any idea of the undergraduate as a rational being with independent voice or opinion but rather a docile robot who should know-tow to the university authorities. It was on this background that Prof. Adewole took over as the Vice-Chancellor of the University from Prof. Bamiro. At this point in time we need not to bore ourselves with unnecessary rhetoric about the inaction of the management which is now beyond the pale as far as Uites are concerned. I will try as much as possible to be more laconic ...
For 200 years (1760-1960), Britain enslaved and colonized Yorubaland. Apart from the railway system, built only to siphon off Yoruba wealth and resources from the hinterland to the seaports in Lagos, for shipment to Liverpool, for the development of England, the British colonial thugs build nothing else. During a brief period of our modern history of self-rule (1954-1959) before a full fledged independence in 1960, under the exceptional leadership of our topmost statesman - Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who served the Yoruba people with the very best government in the whole of Africa. Under their leadership, the Yoruba Western Region of Nigeria became the pace-setter in virtually all aspects of modern development. As examples, Yorubaland developed programmes that empowered Yoruba people to become some of the most productive in Africa. The Region became "First in Africa." Some of the testimonies to this assertion are: 1. A revered judicial system. 2. The development of the first industrial estate in Africa. 3. P ...

Baptist Boys’ High School is a secondary school in Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria. It has a student body of 1100 students as of the 2011-12 academic year. The student population has shrunk almost by half from the peak of 2155 in 1998-1999 academic year, partly in response to a concern that the school’s teaching and learning facilities were inadequate to cope with uncontrolled rise in student numbers. BBHS is on its permanent site, Oke-Saje. *History Baptist Boys’ High School was founded by the American Southern Baptist Convention, whose Foreign Mission Board was set up in 1845 and started work in Abeokuta on August 5, 1850, with the arrival of the first missionary, "Reverend Thomas Jefferson Bowen". An important strategic objective of the American Southern Baptist mission to Nigeria was to empower the native population with the provision of social-educational amenities such as schools, hospitals, teacher training and theological colleges alongside the preaching of the gospel. Thus, schools ...
Prince Ogunlewe: The Head That can Wear The Crown and Best Serve The People by NewsAdmin on May 24, 2014 | No comments Posted under: Opinion, Politics “Where the word best comes in, the term better becomes a misnomer.” – Yoruba proverb -Alaba Yusuf One of British best known political philosophers and legal luminaries, Lord Acton, once etched an unforgettable wise-crack on the slate of life, which till today, affects and impacts on man’s social architecture and developmental engineering the world over. The sagacious sage and jurist, having deeply studied the rat race for political power, concluded thus: “For forms of government, let the fools contest; whatever is best administered is best governed.” How audacious but apt this statement? Though centuries away from 2015, the aforementioned assertion still holds steam across the globe today; and quite accurate, complete, relevant, concise, convincing, meaningful and unambiguous –particularly when scrutinising the current actors and spectators i ...

I wasn't taught history in class but was told that Nigeria was held captive in her own land . It took Great men like Enahoro, Tafawa Balewa , Nnamdi Azikiwe , Obafemi Awolowo to name but a few to pull some strings n free her from the British capitivity that will later be called colonialism . Nigeria was free but come to think of it how free are we when we don't trust the neighbor next door ?

ON OMISORE,IBIKUNLE AND THE STRUGGLE AHEAD: As the titanic battle between the students and the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University reach its climax it is imperative that the IBIKUNLE led student union not to rely heavily on the intervention of a certain governorship candidate whose level of gangsterism, machiavellian and mephistophelian deeds is unrivalled, though i appreciate his prompt intervention on the current paraphernalia. we must rememember that this battle is for future generation and not present generation alone? the present fight against astronomical fee increment can be likened to the battle fought by LUTHER KING decades ago which is still remembered till today? I commend the doggedness, oratorical dexterity and sagacity of the indefatigable, indomitable and irresistible comrades who sacrifice their time, energy, capital to support the current struggle. The compelling urge to be a harbinger of light over Nigeria has been my one consuming passion for more than four decades now ... Chief Bola Ige, 70, the attorney-general of the federation, is a lion in the winter. There is hardly any public officer today whose career has traversed the entire spectrum of the country's attempts at legitimate government. At 31, in the First Republic, he was at the vortex of the Action Group, AG, crisis when the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was pitted against his deputy, Chief Ladoke Akintola. During the Second Republic, he was one of the five governors of Awolowo's Unity Party of Nigeria. Today, he is in the centre of power, still the fulcrum of controversy. It is as if his public career is calibrated along the contour of modern Nigerian history. He is a hero of many battles, most recently the historic struggle against military rule, and he has survived them all. He rides the storm with tested skill and panache and like his mentor, Awolowo, nobody in the republic can be indifferent to Bola Ige, the Cicero of Esa-Oke and grandmaster of Yoruba politics. Ige held strong views and beliefs and this has led h ...
"Today, Africa is a continent of COMPETING BEGGAR-NATIONs. We vie with one another for favours from our former colonial masters; and we deliberately fall over one another to invite neo- colonialists to come over to our different territories to preside over our economic fortunes ... Unless a beggar resolutely shakes off, and irrevocably turns his back on, his begging habit, he will forever remain a beggar. For, the more he begs, the more he develops the beggar characteristics of lack of initiative, courage, drive and self-reliance." - Obafemi Awolowo. What is happening to us now? Youths taking to terrorists activities with impunity. How do we want our generation to be remembered? GEJ, THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF AND A DISLOYAL ARMED FORCES ... he was the Vice President to the ailing President Yar'adua. The events leading to the emergence of GEJ after the death of Yar'adua was a bit turbulent. Some cabals had emerged on the corridor of power and bent on preventing him from becoming the acting president. While the governance was deadlocked, the Save Nigeria Group protest was convened by the fiery Lagos Preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare. On that fateful tuesday morning, we gathered at the Nigerian Airways playing ground, Ikeja adjacent to the Police College. The group was addressed by Prof. Sole Soyinka and some other leading pro democracy activists on the need to be steadfast and see the struggle as not that of Jonathan but our collective resolve to rescue Nigeria from the claws of the cabals holding the nation to ransom. Around 10.00 am the congregations moved swiftly towards Ikeja under the bridge and thereafter matched into Obafemi Awolowo Way enroute Alausa, the seat of Lagos State gov . ...

Mr. President, beware the North won’t help you — Salvadoron Former House of Representatives member, Salvador Adegoke Moshood, is a member from Lagos State representing Ethnic Nationalities at the ongoing National Conference. Moshood, who is also the Treasurer of the Yoruba Unity Forum, YUF, speaks on what the conference is out to do for Nigeria and how President Jonathan should tackle the security challenges facing the nation so as to make the country stronger and better for all Nigerians. By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North WHAT has the YUF achieved since it came out drumming support for the promotion of the core ideals of the late Sage, Obafemi Awolowo? Well, our major effort is basically geared towards improving what Papa had done. That is very important to us and we must continue to work in that regard. How are you doing that? One of the biggest opportunities we have had to propagate the values for which papa lived and died is the ongoing National Conference. It is more than agitating daily. It ...

We need more of the sort of leadership our leaders of old provided. They were not saints but they put the people's interests before their individual and family's interests. We had the examples of the man in this story, Nigeria first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the Sage, Obafemi Awolowo and the great Nnamdi Azikiwe and others. We can collectively work to restore the old order.
LIFE AND TIMES OF BORO: PART 3 From Teacher To Policeman In January, 1958, I entered the teaching field and was posted to the mission school at Amassoma where my father was headmaster. The school had a population of about six hundred pupils. I was the next most qualified teacher so I became the second master. Power was in my hands. I could hear the throttle in me pressing on power. Funny enough, some of my former elementary school teachers were my colleagues as staff. This was also the period when broader issues than teaching began to make an impression on me. Little did I know of politics. Less did I know of why it existed at all. Meanwhile, whether I knew nothing of this hydraheaded monster or not, a freezing political blizzard was blowing its way throughout Eastern Nigeria. Chief Obafemi Awolowo had introduced what he called his Free Primary Education. This book is not to discuss the merits and demerits of that system. In fact, I shall leave it to educationists. But I shall mention certain effects it h ...

.EDITORIAL OF NIGERIAN TRIBUNE,NOVEMBER 23,1976. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in his statement opposed Execultive presidential system of government... "A president who is both Head of state and Head of Government, who in his absolute discretion, appoints ministers from outside the national Assembly, who appoints most of Nigeria, the Head of combined Armed forces, the Head of the Army,Navy and Air force and the Head of civil service,a president who controls the finance of the nation, who has the power to determine the operational use of the armed forces including suppressing insurrection, the president above all, with the power to proclaim a state of emergency. It is a very terrifying prospect to recommend the concentration of all these powers in the hand of one man, one human being, it is a blue-print of dictatorship". Then what are we expecting from presidential system of government even when this man has already forecasted what will bring!! May Allaah save Nigeria!!
I have a strong Foreboding that, Yar'Adua, Nnamide Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Balewa, Ken Saro-Wiwa including the notorious Sani Abacha will be turning in their graves in protest against the lethargic behavior of their current govt. Not even a smidgen of truth has been spoken since these girls were kidnapped. President Goodluck should resign immediately and render an unqualified apology to the Nigerian people. Now, it is imperative and incumbent on all africans domiciled abroad to send a message to their various govts through their embassies that, this kind of barbaric behavior is unacceptable, primitive and an aberration that should not be allowed to gain roots. African leaders only act when is about them and only show opulence and not competence. They make me sick and throw up. ***
The day was 6th July 1967. In the early hours of the day, as usual, a civil servant on the streets of Onitsha and Aba would have his flat file strapped under his arms to board the next train to his office.   A school master would be on his White Horse bicycle, cycling his way to the school to wait on late-coming students to whip with the cane, inculcate the culture of true citizenship, discipline and teach the future leaders.   A collage kid in the Western Nigeria would be up to school with his pen and brain to have a fair share of the unparalleled and exclusive scholarship which the Western leader, Obafemi Awolowo hugely lavished.   In the wake of a new Nigeria, on that fateful day, while all was well and wobbling with the fresh evergreen of the Nigerian grass and water, a 33 year old young man, Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon as was then known and called, lifted up his military staff, declared to be mobilized, a legion of army for warfare against a peaceful land peopled by unarmed and unsuspecting civilians in ...

Tinubu is a mushroom leader - Ebenezer Babatope ".For you to be a leader, it takes a lot of things. Papa Obafemi Awolowo never called himself a leader of the Yoruba. There was a meeting in Lagos and the elders of the time said “You young man, you have been the machine of the Oodua movement, why don’t you now provide leadership?” It was there they asked Papa to go and lead. All those who call themselves leaders are just mushroom leaders. You don’t call yourself leader. Leadership comes from a collection of situations that when they arise, you will immediately identify someone as a leader" - Ebenezer Babatope
Yes! The kick off started yestady in Obafemi Awolowo University. Lord, I commit my final year exams into able care, see me tru as you've bin doing before. Countdown. 17 days to go.
During the pre- and immediate post-independence politics, while Nnamdi Azikiwe was struggling to create a new united nation called Nigeria and Obafemi Awolowo was struggling to advance his people into a modern era, Ahmadu Bello had the opposite preoccupation. With the support of the British and having achieved a preserved status, the North under Ahmadu Bello proceeded to adopt policies that continue to hunt the Northern region of Nigeria. One of the concomitants of preserved status and obsession with religion was the exclusion of Christian missionaries in the North. Since missions were accompanied by schools and hospitals, they resulted in the emergence of educational opportunities and Western lifestyle in the country’s South and in parts of the Middle Belt. In contrast, the Islamic North remained protected from the influences of Western modernity, and this explains in part why the far North areas of Nigeria are still among the poorest and least developed regions in Africa. Reservation about western edu ...
I predict that every multi-lingual or multi-national country with a unitary constitution must either eventually have a federal constitution based on the principles which I have enunciated, or disintegrate, or be perennially afflicted with disharmony and instability. - Obafemi Awolowo, The Peoples' Republic, 1968. How truthful are these statement after these years?
The earlier the likes of some detractors desist from their destructive criticism of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu such that Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo faced from some Yoruba irredentists, the better for the Nation of O'dua. Anyway it depends on whose interest they are serving and which side of the political divide they belong, which is obviously the opposition in Ibadan, and/or where their sympathy lies, and unless of course his path must have crossed that of Asiwaju and it must be fight to finish. Anyway the Nation of O'dua is much the wiser, like those of the past, their efforts will come to a waste.
Who is the greatest person you know? Muhammed Ali, Winston Churchill, Obafemi Awolowo, or who? We usually associate greatness with prestige, position, visibility, etc But God has a way of turning worldly wisdow upside down! Jesus said "he who is greatest among you shall be your servant [Matthew23v11] Do you want to be great? Then you must become a servant! Serve God, serve His people, serve His interests just serve! If God finds you faithful, He will promote you to a place of prominence. But God does not reward titles or positions, He rewards faithfulness. From today, stop to make glamour your guest. Seek to serve, and God will promote you. Amen
What a mendacious and fallacious assumption! Women with great children are witch, This is the general belief of average people living on this earth today. They once said dat, Barack Obama's mother was a witch, samething wit Fela Kuti, Nnamdi Azikwe, and Obafemi Awolowo. What an unsound reasoning!, May God let my mother's children be great in life too, so that people will call her a witch.
The problem of Nigeria is the problem of the north - Obafemi Awolowo. . This is still true many years after.

The more I read posts by some Yoruba "nationalists" the more I see that their "activism" is born out hatred for either the "Gambaris" or the Igbos". In my mind this is wrong. Self-determination need not be fueled by hatred. This hatred has led them (the London and America-based Yoruba warriors) to distort facts, make dumb comparison, proffer brainless assertions, and make so much noise about it. Nationalist, from history, are concerned about their nation or communities, they dont just go about hating others. Thomas Sankara, Jomo Kenyatta, Obafemi Awolowo, Nelson Mandela, and José Martí did not display any form of hate against other people, but against systems. Your enemy is not the people of the other regions, it is THE SYSTEM!
ABUJA BOMB BLAST:Within the last two weeks, the country has experienced two bomb blast at the Federal Capital territory. That brought to memory the apartheid regime in South Africa where nightfalls in soweto like a dreaded disease. Our late sage,Chief Obafemi Awolowo once asserted that "In a community where dogs eat the Lions, that community is not safe to live"Really, this is becoming a National embarrassment as to the competence of our security agencies to be able to live up to the expectaction of protecting life and properties of Nigerians. The big Question here is,does it mean the NigerIa govt is not proactive enough? We have not heard any forenstic report that was carried out on the previous blasts to prove and depict that the government is actually serious in fighting terrorism, rather, what is topmost in their agenda now is 2015 general election. It is because the rulling party has lost its dignity, that is why you would see the chief security officer and C in C of a country dancing skelewu dance steps at . ...

He had a dream for his beloved people …the yorubas …. Descendants of Oduduwa. He understood the complexity of the country we called Nigeria and he knew that to be successful he had to educate his people to be the very best within the nations that make up the country called Nigeria. He knew that education would give us leverage and make us relevant. While some focused on political power and business, he steered his people towards getting the best education money could afford. He was convinced that an educated person can never be relegated to the background. To achieve this goal, he made sure quality education was available and most importantly free from primary to the university level. . "Late Obafemi Awolowo predicted many decades ago that abuja would end up in fire." pondering over this for some times now, no doubt, this man gave Yoruba community a worthwhile foundation on which we are still dancing around. As a builder, he said it out of his huge sensitivity to real growth, and am also wondering why on earth building a gorgeous city was so paramount to the then military dictatorship when Nigerians were crying for food and with the existing cities left decaying. I think, Abuja was built out of no sympathy for the future of Nigeria as a country. As a factor of safety, The best way to build a city is to first build the people that will occupy the city first, if not, no matter its beauty, it will end up being a place of crime and confusion.

Kill public officials who steal above N1million' – TUC president President of the TUC, Bobboi Kaigama during a lecture at the Faculty of Environmental Design and Management, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife yesterday, recommended the death penalty for any public official who is indicted in any financial crime above N1million. During his lecture which was titled "‘Corruption and challenges in nation-building’, Kaigama said tougher sanctions such as his suggestion would make the government's crusade against corruption more sincere "If the governments and legislators are truly sincere about the fight against corruption in the country, they must go tougher. Any public official, whether at the state or federal level, should be executed. Killing them after confirmation of any embezzlement allegation of more than N1m will lead us to the right path. “I sincerely recommend an active process of legislation that would support that. It would also serve the nation well to have a law which not only provides ...

Is This A Joke or Sheer Madness Or An Obnoxious Mockery Or An Expensive Joke? An "Anonymous" Leader In The Country was heard making vital coments: "When the civil war in Nigeria got to its peak. Late sage and Leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was contacted in the prison and he offerred a lasting strategy and solution to ending the civil war. Now, Should we not go an exhume the body and spirit of Chief Obafemi Awolowo to come and help us with logistics and solution to ending this Bokoharam siege and menace in Nigeria now.???"

The chants woke me up! At around 4:08 a.m, 2nd May, 2014, a Thief was reportedly nabbed at Fajuyi Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile - Ife, Nigeria.
YES AM A BABALAWO - Prof. Wande Abimbola. Professor Wande Abimbola is an enigma any day. The former Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is the Awise Awo Agbaye (Spokesman of Ifa and Yoruba Religion Worldwide). His Caucasian wife is known as Ajisebo ( one who is versed in offering sacrifices ). Ajisebo is an Iyanifa (Ifa priestess) and she chants the Ifa Corpus in standard Yoruba. His son with Ajisebo, a bright two-year-old, is named Iroko(as in Iroko tree). As Vice Chancellor, he often invited Babalawos to offer sacrifices to the gods “ so that there would be peace and progress on the campus and for a lot of good things too”. Does the mystery deepen? It is said that during your tenure as Vice Chancellor, whenever the students wanted to embark on any demonstration you would address them making some gesticulations and they would be pacified. That you would then give them akara (bean cakes)…. Prof. Wande Abimbola: (prolonged laughter) It is true that whenever they were to embark on any ...

Nigeria, a country that once had Odimegwu Ojukwu and Obafemi Awolowo as leaders.
Chief Obafemi Awolowo was right when he said "The influence which a nation exerts, the respect which it enjoys and the prestige accorded it on the world scene, depend on two important factors: the size of its wealth and the calibre of its leadership".The rise of the United States to a world power state in the dawn of the 20th century, the rise of nations like China and India against old Asian giant like Japan confirms this and even the ferrocious temerity of the Nazi leader Adolph Hitler to think he could conquer Europe and eventually the world confirms that quote. In our case as a country while we have the former of the two requirements stated by late Awo, the latter has eluded us even from Independence and that's why even with our vast wealth, Nigerians are the subject of mockery and humiliation all over the world from Heathrow airport to the remotest villages of Asia even in fellow African nations. As a digression, I just read in the news yesterday how a Singaporean whose country has never qualified fo ...

Some Omisore supporters on social media are comparing Omisore's murder case with those of Obafemi Awolowo,Olusegun Obasanjo,Bisi Akande and host of others whose circumstances that leed to their own conviction or remand are different from that of Omisore. If not stupidity how can someone with sound sense of reasoning be comparing murder case with that of political prisoners as Chief Awolowo and Chief Bisi Akande. Well we have heard it all and it is very interesting that it is only that case of Omisore that still remained in the court of public opinion up till now (Iyan ogun odun) Uncle Bola was assassinated to pave way for capturing of Southwest by the PDP then and they accompliced their mission but later they lost the region to the progressive which the region is known for since first republic. Although the case of Bola Ige murder had been determined by the court of law but in the court of public opinion it is still subject of disscusion till today and no one can eraze it from the mind of people. Agip Hall, Muson Centre, Lagos. April 17, 2014. PROTOCOLS 1. I am personally delighted to be here today to celebrate the memory of one of the greatest political leaders of Africa in the 20the Century and the progressive political movement in Nigeria which he was a key founder. There cannot be a better moment in our current political climate to celebrate, but perhaps more poignantly remember the lessons that this man, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has taught us, the man Dr Wale Adebanwi describes him in this book as a “corporate political agent.” 2. Thinking about the mystique, phenomenon and charisma of the late sage Obafemi Awolowo (SAN,GCFR)
Sir Olateru-Olagbegi His Royal Majesty Oba Sir Olateru-Olagbegi, Olowo of Owo, KBE (born August 1910 - 1998) was the King (Olowo) of Owo, an ancient city which was once the capital of an Eastern Yoruba city state in Nigeria. He belongs to the Elewuokun ruling house. He was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1960. He was appointed Olowo in 1941 and ruled for 25 years before he was deposed. His exile from power was a fallout of a regional crisis between two Action Group leaders - Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola. The Action Group which was launched in his palace a decade earlier, was led by Awolowo in the 1950s. A battle of wills between the two gladiators in the early 1960s saw Oba Olateru pitching his tent with Akintola. Oba Olagbegi was generally known as one of the most progressive monarchs of his time. He was reputed to have been responsible for the community scholarship enjoyed by Ajasin to Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone, and the establishment of Imade College, whose first princip ...

The outcome of Nigeria - Biafra war In september 1966, approxiamately 30,000 Igbo were killed in the north, and some Northerners were killed in blackashes in eastern cities. Therefore, lieutenant colonel late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, military Governor of eastern Nigeria by virtue of the principles, recited above, do hereby solemnly proclaim that the territory and region known as and called eastern Nigeria together with her continental shelf and territorial waters shall henceforth be an independent sovereign state of the name and title of " The republic of Biafra". In January 1967 the military leaders and senior police officials of each region met in Aburi, Ghana and agreed on a loose confederation of regions the Northerners were at odds with the Aburi accord, Obafemi Awolowo, the leader of the Western Region warned that if the eastern region seceded, the Western Region would also, which persuaded the northerners. After the federal and eastern government failed to reconcile, on 26th May the eastern reg ...

hat a diehard Awoist like me would be giving testimonies on our late Premier, who was viewed as the Judas of the Yoruba cause, at one period in our history, is in of itself, a miracle. Those who say the only thing constant in life is change are *** right - your enemy of today could turn out to be your greatest friend tomorrow, because nature and time the great healer, have a way of turning things around, and changing our perception. Life itself is all about the choices we make at every given point, based on information available to us. So the statement "Never again" is one that every human being should think twice before making. I just think it is about time to begin to refurbish the image of the second Premier of the old Western Region. As far as I am concerned, and you don't have to agree with me, the only sin Ladoke Akintola had committed in his political life is having to openly disagree with his Party leader, Obafemi Awolowo on whether or not it was time for the Yorubas to make peace and to join for ...

I am happy that most northerners who were *** bent on stopping Obafemi Awolowo from becoming President of Nigeria are now going thru the same pains that Awolowo had endured. What goes around comes around. I am sure that Buhari is now in a better position to appreciate the pains and the struggles of Obafemi Awolowo who knew what he could do for Nigeria but was frustrated from doing it by the Hausa/Fulani and the Igbos working together to stop Awolowo by blackmailing him a tribalist. The Igbos and some elements of the Yorubas are doing the same thing to Buhari today by calling him names, blackmailing him and and saying his ultimate goal was to make an Islamic state of Nigeria. Some have even described him as being the brain or the master mind behind Boko Haram. That was all a big lie. It came out of his television interview with Rudolf Okonkwo that Buhari was was seen by Boko Haram as one of their implacable enemies. He, General Buhari described Boko Haram in that interview as “neither Christian nor Musl ...
Independence (1960) On 1 October 1960, Nigeria gained its independence from the United Kingdom. Nigeria's government was a coalition of conservative parties: the Nigerian People's Congress (NPC), a party dominated by Northerners and those of the Islamic faith; and the Igbo and Christian-dominated National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) led by Nnamdi Azikiwe , who became Nigeria's maiden Governor-General in 1960. Forming the opposition was the comparatively liberal Action Group (AG), which was largely dominated by the Yoruba and led by Obafemi Awolowo.[29] The cultural and political differences among Nigeria's dominant ethnic groups: the Hausa ('Northerners'), Igbo ('Easterners') and Yoruba ('Westerners'), were sharp. An imbalance was created in the polity by the result of the 1961 plebiscite. Southern Cameroon opted to join the Republic of Cameroon while northern Cameroon chose to remain in Nigeria. The northern part of the country was now far larger than the southern part. The nation parted ...
Ogun - The former governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, on Thursday said Nigeria would continue to grow stronger rather than break up. Jakande said this at the 27th posthumous birthday celebration of Obafemi Awolowo at Ikenne-Remo, Ogun. He called for concerted efforts toward the promotion of peace in the country. Jakande also advised Nigerians to desist from acts capable of stunting the nation’s development. "Peace building and unity should be our major pre-occupation to ensure socio-political and economic development of the country. "This is our country and we must not work against her sustainable growth and development. "If we keep doing the right thing, Nigeria will not break up as being predicted by some people. We will survive,” he said. Jakande eulogised the Awolowo family, saying politicians should learn to uphold the legacies of the late sage. "I feel it is good for a country that people who gave their service for its development thereof should be recognised and honoured. "Doing this wi .. ...
Anticolonial struggle: Do you know that leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Aminu Kano, and others emerged in the 1940s and 1950s against colonialism?
Winston Churchill, once said “Study history, study history. In history lies all the secrets of statecraft”. Herbert MacAulay, a Yoruba was the first nationalist who fought British imperialism for which he was jailed twice. As far back as 1908, before Nigeria was created, he started the struggle to expose European corruption and exploitation and freedom for Yoruba people well before Lugard’s arrival to amalgamate Yorubaland with their neigbours and called them Nigerians. Herbert MacAulay formed the first Nigerian political party on June 24, 1923, known as the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP). He was popular with the Yoruba masses such that he won all the seats in the popular elections of 1923, 1928 and 1933 in Yorubaland. Subsequent nationalists like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Aminu Kano, and Tafawa Balewa got inspiration from Macaulay to commendably achieve independence in 1960. Today, Yoruba leaders struggle to achieve self-governing and autonomous Yoruba Region within Nigeria or dec ...
LET'S TALK NIGERIA.CAN YOU TELL US OF THE NIGERIA IN YOUR DREAM Someone once said “what differentiate the “Third World” from the other worlds is not skin color or location. It is neither because the later have better brain cells, it is a matter of orientation (what we believe and what we do with what we believe).” What ever happens in the human world comes from the thought of a man. Nations are built on it.territories and empires are first built in the mind. Success has a lot to do with how best we are able to create it in the quietness of our mind a mental model of our world and it is called dream. Every great personality, organization or nation we see today are products of a dream of "one man" and in some rare cases a group. Christopher Columbus had a dream and Martin Luther redefined that dream, Nelson Mandela had a dream. Bill Gates had a dream. Oprah Winfrey had a dream. Aliko Dangote had a dream, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo all had a dream for Nigeria. The question is, wh ...

Arise O compatriots is a clarion call to all Nigerians to love and render selfless service to our beloved fatherland. Life is more than just being comfortable. No matter how much money you have made, the connections you have, fame and influence you presently enjoy, it is time to join the wagon of NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION. Mother Teresa, Lee Kuan Yew, Obafemi Awolowo, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Jonh Knox, Mahatma Gandhi and others who lived for positive change in their life-time are men and women born naked like you and i. Interestingly, generations unborn will continue to read about, appreciate and learn from them. The Nigeria you are living today is a nation built upon the sweats, bloods and sacrifice of other men and women. Wealth acquisition has never built a nation but selfless service and sacrifice. It is time to give our all so as to build a heavenly Nigeria. Nigerians are not different from Nigeria; Nigeria is a product of the conscious efforts of Nigerians. God is still prepared to help us build a ...
In Search of That Man (II) By Dele Momodu Below is the part (II) Fellow Nigerians, last week, I raised a lot of posers about how to find that man, or woman, who can lead us to our Eldorado. I was very happy to see that many of the readers were favourably disposed to my thesis on Leadership. This week, let us continue the chronicle from where we stopped. Nothing is more important than finding the best President for our great country. The Presidency of Nigeria is too important and extremely powerful to be left in the hands of someone who does not know or understand the magnitude of the work at hand. Nigeria is almost 50 or more years backward in infrastructural development and requires sharp vision, supreme sacrifice and total dedication of a leader prepared to work at the speed of light. A ceremonial figure is not who we need at this time when we are all hoping for a bloodless revolution on all fronts in order to catch up with the rest of the world. A feel good rocker is far from what Nigeria requires to . ...

The sad story of Okitipupa - by: Bayo Olupohunda - 12th February, 2014 The deplorable state of the once flourishing and functioning Okitipupa, a sleepy town in the south side of Ondo State is a sad metaphor of the Nigerian condition. Okitipupa, the palm oil rich town is home to the indigenous Ikale people, a micro-ethnic Yoruba group to which I proudly belong. According to the 2006 census, the town has a paltry population of just over 200,000 people. But it is a melting pot. The town welcomes strangers. In the years that I spent there as a teenager, even while I had not travelled to various parts of Nigeria, I had been aware, through contact with other Nigerians, that the country is a multi-ethnic nation. I remember with nostalgia how people from the neighbouring Ilaje, Ijaw and the Urhobo flocked into the town to be part of its growing commercial activities. The riverine Ilaje, a predominantly fishing people with a common variant of the Ikale language with the Ikale complemented the Urhobo. The Urhobo ha ...

It was so painful that Nigerian leaders did not allow Chief Obafemi Awolowo to rule Nigeria. He was the best leader Nigeria has never produced. All his prophesies are coming true. what do you think about this?
IBOTA N' OGBE (14) When Prayers Fail In a template or an experiment when five persons, who believe in prayers, are taken to pray for success in an examination or in life, and another five, who do not believe in prayers, are both groups studied to find out the effect of prayers or of God, I make bold to proclaim that no group would do better than the other if we hold every other factor, including retentive/memory capacity, constant for all in both groups. Yes! retentive ability determines how much we can take in and remember to pure out. The degree vary from persons to persons and may run in the family for a few or all members. But in the case of a genius whose intelligence Quotient (IQ) runs at 144 degree, it is very rare in history where two within a family can be so blessed. This is why Fela Anikulapo, Pele, Maradona, Mohammed Ali, Madiba Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Kwame Nkrumah, Albert Einstein, Obafemi Awolowo etc could not be replicated after them. 'Awoism is a national & supra-national political theory which aims at the orderly and rapid transformation of Nigeria and of Africa- mentally, socially & economically,so that Nigeria first & foremost,& Africa asa whole will assume their positions among the developed nation of the World withn a record time (1982). In this regards an Awoist or a true follower of Late Obafemi Awolowo,as claimed today by most of the so calld Yoruba leaders, must not, under any circumstances, concern itself with either participating or sharing power with the other unprogressive, reactionary political parties.Chief was able to maintain this position throught his political life, What A legacy? Baba withdrew himself from CDC committee dt was set up in 1977 by Obj.cos he was d only minority and interest differs alots.baba did not in any sense compromise his ideaology and subjectd his party to the hand of the federal" i.e( 2011 Presidential election in lagos) cos of temporary suffering in the struggle.Yoruba leaders, what is common toda ...
THE MASTER’S CHAMBER February 14th, 2014. ENDING THE ELUSIVE SEARCH. So many things have been said and written about Lord Lugard’s 1914 amalgamation of Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria. Some people have deridedly referred to Nigeria as a “political contraption” while others believe that the amalgamation of the North and South is the coming together of odd bedfellows. A few others introduce wry pun into the matter by reminding us that Nigeria was named from ‘Niger area’ by Lugard’s girl friend (She later became his wife). Well and fine. But there has never been any groups of people who ever came together anywhere in the world without sharing a natural affinity to do so. This affinity could be physical proximity to one another, language, socio-economic or even cultural; in all of the cases, there must be a common interest, and privileges derivable from such associations. You cannot say that the various peoples who now habit Nigeria did not fulfil these conditions before Lugard’ ...

‘EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN UNION’ I was determined to seek the path of righteousness and atone for the past few years of disguising my faith under a political bushel. There would no longer be the subordination of my Christian faith to the pursuit of power. I was determined to humble myself and join my brothers and sisters in fellowship but also to use my gift of the speech to the glory of God. I started attending the Evangelical Christian Union (ECU) meetings on a regular basis, met with Brothers Joe Takon and Peter Olonade, the President of ECU and immediate past President respectively. The fellowship meetings were held on Sundays at the University’s All Souls Chapel, a large auditorium that was largely uncompleted at the time, it usually started at 3pm and went on into the evening. It sat deep in the forest so we had to navigate a path through the recently cleared bushes and shrubs in order to get there. The ECU was one of the few fellowships at the time in the days before the proliferation of ...

National Conference: Preparing for a Marriage, Not a Wedding. By Reno Omokri Now that the modalities for the National Conference have been released, it is clear that this dialogue is going to be a citizens driven discourse which to every true progressive must be very reassuring, because as most married couples know, it spells disaster for a nuptial union if you spend time preparing for a wedding rather than a marriage. A wedding is a day’s event. A marriage is a lifetime affair. And what Nigeria had on the 1st of January 1914 was a wedding. Recently, I became aware of Brian Tracy's maxim of management which provides that "every minute you spend planning saves ten minutes in execution; this gives you a 1000% Return on Energy". Tracy's nugget of wisdom is more telling of the Nigerian situation when you take into account the fact that Nigeria at independence in 1960 had more potential and a higher Gross Domestic Product than Malaysia, South Korea and the island nation that has come to be known today as Sin ...

Gambari Shiver over Yoruba agenda that will put an end to the stealing of Yoruba resources. Confab: We’ll tackle Yoruba over confederal option – ACF The ACF said they have heard of plans by the South West to push for confederal arrangement at the coming National Conference, saying delegates from the North will be ready for any surprise. According to him, it will be practical impossibility for the North or any other part of the country to stop. A statement from the forum made available in Kaduna yesterday also posited that the region only agrees to participate in the conference not because it believes it will solve the country’s woes but to assuage those that believed that sitting down to talk will improve the spirit of peaceful co-existence. The statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Anthony Sani, also argues that nothing is wrong with the structure of the country, but everything is wrong with the leadership and altitude of Nigerians. The statement also reads: “We have read the repo ...

Stop that unnecessary comparison. The difference is clear and if you want to know, you may want to check our records. Go to Obafemi Awolowo University, go the ARFFS training school, go to NAFSA's record, go to the church of God. God has made us blessing to those He gave us to lead. Is it in the area of promotion, healing, counseling, settling troubled homes, proffering solution to knotty issues and giving succor. God used me to bring glamour to ARFFS. I love my job, I believe in hardwork and dignity of labour, I have not lobbied for anything, I say it loud and clear for the umpteenth time that I don't have a godfather but God the father who in His goodness has brought me to this level. He is the One that seasoned my life with heavenly gifts. I am not seasoned by mere words of men who say hosanna today and turn to say crucify him tomorrow. I will blame the All Progressives Congress for the tension over the budget passage rites at the House of Representatives this time around because I am at a loss what the APC members in the House will gain if the 2014 budget is not passed on time. This is February 2014, yet the budget is not out of works from the legislature. When then will it be ready for the President’s assent? You can agree with me that the budget is coming late to make any meaningful impact in the economy and on the lives of Nigerians. Beyond President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, the well-being of Nigerians depends on this budget. It will amount to punishing Nigerians unjustly if the budget discussion is trapped in the struggle for power between the two leading political parties at the National Assembly. The APC should be reminded that it was the ego-based struggle for power in the Western Regional House of Assembly between factions loyal to Obafemi Awolowo and Ladoke Akintola that led to fall of the First Rep ...

FILMMAKING INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA,YESTERDAY ,TODAY & TOMORROW. Firstly, let go back to what i wrote in about 2 weeks ago.If we want to discuss the birth of filmmaking in our nation, our discussion may not be a sensible one without mention people like Hubert Olalere Ogunde (the producer of Aye) and Dr.Ola Balogun (the producer of Ija Ominira) two of Them were the pillar of filmmaking by then, and we must not fail to remember Ade Love, Jimoh Aliu, Omilani,Ogungbe.etc. So, whatever that Igbo filmmakers are producing today,Yoruba is the elder. All of them were doing everything with peace even if you don't want to join them, their attitudes would entice you. All of them turned their names to unforgettable one in Nigeria history. Technology was not improve by then, yet, they were making it proud. Do we still remember what Late Obafemi Awolowo done for late Hubert Ogunde. Ija ominira was best film that people watched in Eko films show in the year 1959,produced by Ola Balogun and showed on TV by one white man (nam .. ...

Riches and Glory: The Hallmark of New Birth Politicians Unfortunately, riches and glory have become the most-sought-after by the new generation (call it lost generation) of politicians in this part of the world. In our researches, we’ve found out that great people like: Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Costallo John, Arias Sanchez, Alexander the Great, Winston Churchill, Genghis Khan, Gandhi Indira, Abraham Lincoln et cet al were never self-seeking in their representation, but fought for emancipation, freedom, and the general welfare of their people. Nowadays, the mindset of politicians is tilting to the negative due to avaricious preoccupation and tendencies to garner political influences through ill-gotten wealth. Day by day you hear politicians threatening fire and brimstone just to be in power. And those already in power would rather die than relinquish their positions to other/better people. How sad! PERHAPS, THE AFOREMENTIONED ARE THE REASONS WHY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK E ...

Chief Obafemi Awolowo said that ' nigerians are not bothered about who rules them so long as they are allowed to leave thier lives In crude comfort'. This he meant that there is food on his table, road, light, water, transportation, security, schools etc. Therr sversge nigerian does not care who governs them. The current political crises in the country is engined by self centred and expired politicians who want to be relevant after fifty years in governance.
