WHY WE MUST REJECT INIQUITIES & GODFATHERISM IN KWARA STATE TOO :- In old regions of Nigeria, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo is well known politician, Late Alh. Tafawa Balewa of Bauch, Late Alh. Ahmadu Bello of sokoto, Late Dr. Nnamidi Azikwe(the 1st president of FRN), to mentioned but few, they are more stronger than Dr Olusola saraki. None of their family stand to be a political leader, governor, senator or whatsoever as we have in the poor Kwara state. That great man who passed away recently in South Africa Dr. Nelson Mandela- the international man. We all acknowledged the part he played in the development of South Africa and the legacy he left behind, he even spent long time in the prison coz of his country, none of his family stand to be a political leader or godfatherism. Kwarans, lets wake up and put more efforts to go against godfatherism or selfacclaimed leader. Lets fight oppressor instead of fussing & fighting each other. Through joint efforts we could regain the lost glory of kwara state. We tha . ...

History is about to repeat itself in S/West? Hassan Usman Kastina slapped Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo at the Federal Executive Council meeting shortly after the Civil War. Buhari as a military junta jailed more of Obafemi Awolowo led UPN Govs than NPN. Today, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff APC threatened to Slap Senator Bola Tinubu APC leader at NEC meeting. So nothing strange happened I must confess, history is about to repeat itself. All they want is power then they will slap *** out of Tinubu and his kinsmen. -Freddy Ogugua Esenwa

The outcome of Nigeria - Biafra war In september 1966, approxiamately 30,000 Igbo were killed in the north, and some Northerners were killed in blackashes in eastern cities. Therefore, lieutenant colonel late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, military Governor of eastern Nigeria by virtue of the principles, recited above, do hereby solemnly proclaim that the territory and region known as and called eastern Nigeria together with her continental shelf and territorial waters shall henceforth be an independent sovereign state of the name and title of " The republic of Biafra". In January 1967 the military leaders and senior police officials of each region met in Aburi, Ghana and agreed on a loose confederation of regions the Northerners were at odds with the Aburi accord, Obafemi Awolowo, the leader of the Western Region warned that if the eastern region seceded, the Western Region would also, which persuaded the northerners. After the federal and eastern government failed to reconcile, on 26th May the eastern reg ...

hat a diehard Awoist like me would be giving testimonies on our late Premier, who was viewed as the Judas of the Yoruba cause, at one period in our history, is in of itself, a miracle. Those who say the only thing constant in life is change are *** right - your enemy of today could turn out to be your greatest friend tomorrow, because nature and time the great healer, have a way of turning things around, and changing our perception. Life itself is all about the choices we make at every given point, based on information available to us. So the statement "Never again" is one that every human being should think twice before making. I just think it is about time to begin to refurbish the image of the second Premier of the old Western Region. As far as I am concerned, and you don't have to agree with me, the only sin Ladoke Akintola had committed in his political life is having to openly disagree with his Party leader, Obafemi Awolowo on whether or not it was time for the Yorubas to make peace and to join for ...

I am happy that most northerners who were *** bent on stopping Obafemi Awolowo from becoming President of Nigeria are now going thru the same pains that Awolowo had endured. What goes around comes around. I am sure that Buhari is now in a better position to appreciate the pains and the struggles of Obafemi Awolowo who knew what he could do for Nigeria but was frustrated from doing it by the Hausa/Fulani and the Igbos working together to stop Awolowo by blackmailing him a tribalist. The Igbos and some elements of the Yorubas are doing the same thing to Buhari today by calling him names, blackmailing him and and saying his ultimate goal was to make an Islamic state of Nigeria. Some have even described him as being the brain or the master mind behind Boko Haram. That was all a big lie. It came out of his television interview with Rudolf Okonkwo that Buhari was was seen by Boko Haram as one of their implacable enemies. He, General Buhari described Boko Haram in that interview as “neither Christian nor Musl ...
Independence (1960) On 1 October 1960, Nigeria gained its independence from the United Kingdom. Nigeria's government was a coalition of conservative parties: the Nigerian People's Congress (NPC), a party dominated by Northerners and those of the Islamic faith; and the Igbo and Christian-dominated National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) led by Nnamdi Azikiwe , who became Nigeria's maiden Governor-General in 1960. Forming the opposition was the comparatively liberal Action Group (AG), which was largely dominated by the Yoruba and led by Obafemi Awolowo.[29] The cultural and political differences among Nigeria's dominant ethnic groups: the Hausa ('Northerners'), Igbo ('Easterners') and Yoruba ('Westerners'), were sharp. An imbalance was created in the polity by the result of the 1961 plebiscite. Southern Cameroon opted to join the Republic of Cameroon while northern Cameroon chose to remain in Nigeria. The northern part of the country was now far larger than the southern part. The nation parted ...
Ogun - The former governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, on Thursday said Nigeria would continue to grow stronger rather than break up. Jakande said this at the 27th posthumous birthday celebration of Obafemi Awolowo at Ikenne-Remo, Ogun. He called for concerted efforts toward the promotion of peace in the country. Jakande also advised Nigerians to desist from acts capable of stunting the nation’s development. "Peace building and unity should be our major pre-occupation to ensure socio-political and economic development of the country. "This is our country and we must not work against her sustainable growth and development. "If we keep doing the right thing, Nigeria will not break up as being predicted by some people. We will survive,” he said. Jakande eulogised the Awolowo family, saying politicians should learn to uphold the legacies of the late sage. "I feel it is good for a country that people who gave their service for its development thereof should be recognised and honoured. "Doing this wi .. ...

Anticolonial struggle: Do you know that leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Aminu Kano, and others emerged in the 1940s and 1950s against colonialism?
Winston Churchill, once said “Study history, study history. In history lies all the secrets of statecraft”. Herbert MacAulay, a Yoruba was the first nationalist who fought British imperialism for which he was jailed twice. As far back as 1908, before Nigeria was created, he started the struggle to expose European corruption and exploitation and freedom for Yoruba people well before Lugard’s arrival to amalgamate Yorubaland with their neigbours and called them Nigerians. Herbert MacAulay formed the first Nigerian political party on June 24, 1923, known as the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP). He was popular with the Yoruba masses such that he won all the seats in the popular elections of 1923, 1928 and 1933 in Yorubaland. Subsequent nationalists like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Aminu Kano, and Tafawa Balewa got inspiration from Macaulay to commendably achieve independence in 1960. Today, Yoruba leaders struggle to achieve self-governing and autonomous Yoruba Region within Nigeria or dec ...
LET'S TALK NIGERIA.CAN YOU TELL US OF THE NIGERIA IN YOUR DREAM Someone once said “what differentiate the “Third World” from the other worlds is not skin color or location. It is neither because the later have better brain cells, it is a matter of orientation (what we believe and what we do with what we believe).” What ever happens in the human world comes from the thought of a man. Nations are built on it.territories and empires are first built in the mind. Success has a lot to do with how best we are able to create it in the quietness of our mind a mental model of our world and it is called dream. Every great personality, organization or nation we see today are products of a dream of "one man" and in some rare cases a group. Christopher Columbus had a dream and Martin Luther redefined that dream, Nelson Mandela had a dream. Bill Gates had a dream. Oprah Winfrey had a dream. Aliko Dangote had a dream, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo all had a dream for Nigeria. The question is, wh ...

Arise O compatriots is a clarion call to all Nigerians to love and render selfless service to our beloved fatherland. Life is more than just being comfortable. No matter how much money you have made, the connections you have, fame and influence you presently enjoy, it is time to join the wagon of NATIONAL TRANSFORMATION. Mother Teresa, Lee Kuan Yew, Obafemi Awolowo, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Jonh Knox, Mahatma Gandhi and others who lived for positive change in their life-time are men and women born naked like you and i. Interestingly, generations unborn will continue to read about, appreciate and learn from them. The Nigeria you are living today is a nation built upon the sweats, bloods and sacrifice of other men and women. Wealth acquisition has never built a nation but selfless service and sacrifice. It is time to give our all so as to build a heavenly Nigeria. Nigerians are not different from Nigeria; Nigeria is a product of the conscious efforts of Nigerians. God is still prepared to help us build a ...

In Search of That Man (II) By Dele Momodu Below is the part (II) Fellow Nigerians, last week, I raised a lot of posers about how to find that man, or woman, who can lead us to our Eldorado. I was very happy to see that many of the readers were favourably disposed to my thesis on Leadership. This week, let us continue the chronicle from where we stopped. Nothing is more important than finding the best President for our great country. The Presidency of Nigeria is too important and extremely powerful to be left in the hands of someone who does not know or understand the magnitude of the work at hand. Nigeria is almost 50 or more years backward in infrastructural development and requires sharp vision, supreme sacrifice and total dedication of a leader prepared to work at the speed of light. A ceremonial figure is not who we need at this time when we are all hoping for a bloodless revolution on all fronts in order to catch up with the rest of the world. A feel good rocker is far from what Nigeria requires to . ...

If you control it, it dissipates and is lost, ’cause it wants to be free, it wants to flow and change and grow and reproduce like a living thing. Art lives and gives life. Without it we are just a bunch of wanderers without form, without purpose, without hope. Art is our definition and we cannot but embrace and live it." Segun Aiyesan

The sad story of Okitipupa - by: Bayo Olupohunda - 12th February, 2014 The deplorable state of the once flourishing and functioning Okitipupa, a sleepy town in the south side of Ondo State is a sad metaphor of the Nigerian condition. Okitipupa, the palm oil rich town is home to the indigenous Ikale people, a micro-ethnic Yoruba group to which I proudly belong. According to the 2006 census, the town has a paltry population of just over 200,000 people. But it is a melting pot. The town welcomes strangers. In the years that I spent there as a teenager, even while I had not travelled to various parts of Nigeria, I had been aware, through contact with other Nigerians, that the country is a multi-ethnic nation. I remember with nostalgia how people from the neighbouring Ilaje, Ijaw and the Urhobo flocked into the town to be part of its growing commercial activities. The riverine Ilaje, a predominantly fishing people with a common variant of the Ikale language with the Ikale complemented the Urhobo. The Urhobo ha ...

It was so painful that Nigerian leaders did not allow Chief Obafemi Awolowo to rule Nigeria. He was the best leader Nigeria has never produced. All his prophesies are coming true. what do you think about this?
IBOTA N' OGBE (14) When Prayers Fail In a template or an experiment when five persons, who believe in prayers, are taken to pray for success in an examination or in life, and another five, who do not believe in prayers, are both groups studied to find out the effect of prayers or of God, I make bold to proclaim that no group would do better than the other if we hold every other factor, including retentive/memory capacity, constant for all in both groups. Yes! retentive ability determines how much we can take in and remember to pure out. The degree vary from persons to persons and may run in the family for a few or all members. But in the case of a genius whose intelligence Quotient (IQ) runs at 144 degree, it is very rare in history where two within a family can be so blessed. This is why Fela Anikulapo, Pele, Maradona, Mohammed Ali, Madiba Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Kwame Nkrumah, Albert Einstein, Obafemi Awolowo etc could not be replicated after them. So far nothing has been confirmed to enhance such rete ...
Chief Obafemi Awolowo a globally accepted icon of progressive leadership in Africa, predicted " in one of his books, The Hero, that the best of the conservative and the best of the progressive will one day rule Nigeria. Don't you think the APC has come to fulfill this prediction?
'Awoism is a national & supra-national political theory which aims at the orderly and rapid transformation of Nigeria and of Africa- mentally, socially & economically,so that Nigeria first & foremost,& Africa asa whole will assume their positions among the developed nation of the World withn a record time (1982). In this regards an Awoist or a true follower of Late Obafemi Awolowo,as claimed today by most of the so calld Yoruba leaders, must not, under any circumstances, concern itself with either participating or sharing power with the other unprogressive, reactionary political parties.Chief was able to maintain this position throught his political life, What A legacy? THE MASTER’S CHAMBER February 14th, 2014. ENDING THE ELUSIVE SEARCH. So many things have been said and written about Lord Lugard’s 1914 amalgamation of Northern and Southern protectorates of Nigeria. Some people have deridedly referred to Nigeria as a “political contraption” while others believe that the amalgamation of the North and South is the coming together of odd bedfellows. A few others introduce wry pun into the matter by reminding us that Nigeria was named from ‘Niger area’ by Lugard’s girl friend (She later became his wife). Well and fine. But there has never been any groups of people who ever came together anywhere in the world without sharing a natural affinity to do so. This affinity could be physical proximity to one another, language, socio-economic or even cultural; in all of the cases, there must be a common interest, and privileges derivable from such associations. You cannot say that the various peoples who now habit Nigeria did not fulfil these conditions before Lugard’ ...

‘EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN UNION’ I was determined to seek the path of righteousness and atone for the past few years of disguising my faith under a political bushel. There would no longer be the subordination of my Christian faith to the pursuit of power. I was determined to humble myself and join my brothers and sisters in fellowship but also to use my gift of the speech to the glory of God. I started attending the Evangelical Christian Union (ECU) meetings on a regular basis, met with Brothers Joe Takon and Peter Olonade, the President of ECU and immediate past President respectively. The fellowship meetings were held on Sundays at the University’s All Souls Chapel, a large auditorium that was largely uncompleted at the time, it usually started at 3pm and went on into the evening. It sat deep in the forest so we had to navigate a path through the recently cleared bushes and shrubs in order to get there. The ECU was one of the few fellowships at the time in the days before the proliferation of ...

National Conference: Preparing for a Marriage, Not a Wedding. By Reno Omokri Now that the modalities for the National Conference have been released, it is clear that this dialogue is going to be a citizens driven discourse which to every true progressive must be very reassuring, because as most married couples know, it spells disaster for a nuptial union if you spend time preparing for a wedding rather than a marriage. A wedding is a day’s event. A marriage is a lifetime affair. And what Nigeria had on the 1st of January 1914 was a wedding. Recently, I became aware of Brian Tracy's maxim of management which provides that "every minute you spend planning saves ten minutes in execution; this gives you a 1000% Return on Energy". Tracy's nugget of wisdom is more telling of the Nigerian situation when you take into account the fact that Nigeria at independence in 1960 had more potential and a higher Gross Domestic Product than Malaysia, South Korea and the island nation that has come to be known today as Sin ...

Gambari Shiver over Yoruba agenda that will put an end to the stealing of Yoruba resources. Confab: We’ll tackle Yoruba over confederal option – ACF The ACF said they have heard of plans by the South West to push for confederal arrangement at the coming National Conference, saying delegates from the North will be ready for any surprise. According to him, it will be practical impossibility for the North or any other part of the country to stop. A statement from the forum made available in Kaduna yesterday also posited that the region only agrees to participate in the conference not because it believes it will solve the country’s woes but to assuage those that believed that sitting down to talk will improve the spirit of peaceful co-existence. The statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Anthony Sani, also argues that nothing is wrong with the structure of the country, but everything is wrong with the leadership and altitude of Nigerians. The statement also reads: “We have read the repo ...

I will blame the All Progressives Congress for the tension over the budget passage rites at the House of Representatives this time around because I am at a loss what the APC members in the House will gain if the 2014 budget is not passed on time. This is February 2014, yet the budget is not out of works from the legislature. When then will it be ready for the President’s assent? You can agree with me that the budget is coming late to make any meaningful impact in the economy and on the lives of Nigerians. Beyond President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, the well-being of Nigerians depends on this budget. It will amount to punishing Nigerians unjustly if the budget discussion is trapped in the struggle for power between the two leading political parties at the National Assembly. The APC should be reminded that it was the ego-based struggle for power in the Western Regional House of Assembly between factions loyal to Obafemi Awolowo and Ladoke Akintola that led to fall of the First Rep ...

FILMMAKING INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA,YESTERDAY ,TODAY & TOMORROW. Firstly, let go back to what i wrote in about 2 weeks ago.If we want to discuss the birth of filmmaking in our nation, our discussion may not be a sensible one without mention people like Hubert Olalere Ogunde (the producer of Aye) and Dr.Ola Balogun (the producer of Ija Ominira) two of Them were the pillar of filmmaking by then, and we must not fail to remember Ade Love, Jimoh Aliu, Omilani,Ogungbe.etc. So, whatever that Igbo filmmakers are producing today,Yoruba is the elder. All of them were doing everything with peace even if you don't want to join them, their attitudes would entice you. All of them turned their names to unforgettable one in Nigeria history. Technology was not improve by then, yet, they were making it proud. Do we still remember what late Obafemi Awolowo done for late Hubert Ogunde. Ija ominira was best film that people watched in Eko films show in the year 1959,produced by Ola Balogun and showed on TV by one white man (nam .. ...

3. Obafemi Awolowo & Ahmadu Bello weren't the kind of people who'd see Zik establish a university & do nothing. So they responded.
Riches and Glory: The Hallmark of New Birth Politicians Unfortunately, riches and glory have become the most-sought-after by the new generation (call it lost generation) of politicians in this part of the world. In our researches, we’ve found out that great people like: Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Costallo John, Arias Sanchez, Alexander the Great, Winston Churchill, Genghis Khan, Gandhi Indira, Abraham Lincoln et cet al were never self-seeking in their representation, but fought for emancipation, freedom, and the general welfare of their people. Nowadays, the mindset of politicians is tilting to the negative due to avaricious preoccupation and tendencies to garner political influences through ill-gotten wealth. Day by day you hear politicians threatening fire and brimstone just to be in power. And those already in power would rather die than relinquish their positions to other/better people. How sad! PERHAPS, THE AFOREMENTIONED ARE THE REASONS WHY PRESIDENT GOODLUCK E ...

Chief Obafemi Awolowo said that ' nigerians are not bothered about who rules them so long as they are allowed to leave thier lives In crude comfort'. This he meant that there is food on his table, road, light, water, transportation, security, schools etc. Therr sversge nigerian does not care who governs them. The current political crises in the country is engined by self centred and expired politicians who want to be relevant after fifty years in governance.

LEGACY IN GOVERNANCE: Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a celebrated, revered and respected leader of his generation because of his legacies as Premier of the Western Region. Today, many Politicians clamoured for people's vote using Awo's name and contacts. What Legacy are they leaving behind since 1999?

Chief Obafemi Awolowo built the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, the first of its kind in Africa; established the WNTV, the first television station in Africa; erected the first skyscraper in tropical Africa: the Cocoa House (still the tallest in Ibadan) and ran a widely-respected civil service in the Western Region. This is what to remember a good leader for, not for making few to become billionaires over night, building of roads and digging of boreholes, all these are fundamentals not an achievements.
A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University decided to commit suicide when the father of his fiancee refused him marry his daughter. His action was revealed in his suicide note he dropped before he carried out the abominable act. Could this be love? Does anybody worth this "priceless sacrifice" no matter how beautiful, handsome, rich he or she may be?

DID U KNOW?! AWOLOWO, the Premier of the Yoruba people of Western Nigeria. Under four years (before nigeria's independence in 1960) of his premiership, he built and provided the following: 1. First TV Station in Africa, WNTV, Ibadan. 2. First Olympic Stadium in Africa, Liberty Stadium, Ibadan. 3. First Skyscraper in Africa, Cocoa House, Ibadan. 4. First Free Education in Africa. 5. First Free and Qualitative Health care in Africa. 6. First Organised Public Service in Africa. 7. First Industrial Estate in Africa. 8. First University Teaching Hospital in Africa, the UCH Ibadan. 9. The first university in Africa was built in Egypt before the birth of Jesus Christ. No other university was established after this in Africa until Awolowo built the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University.
Chief Obafemi Awolowo is often refered to 'as the best president we never had'. In my opinion, President Goodluck Johnatan will be remembered as the best president Nigerians never allowed to stay
AWOLOWO - GREATER THAN MANDELA: ODIA OFEIMU Odia Ofeimun was Obafemi Awolowo's personal secretary. He is a pure-blooded intellectual and obviously, he believes the man he faithfully served had qualities that merited not only his service but also his adoration. He has written an article in today's Punch where he painted Awolowo as greater than Mandela and people on both sides of the debate have engaged with a mix of fury and ridicule. Is Awolowo greater than Nelson Mandela? The question itself has no real basis and I am surprised adults can make sense of such a debate. There is hardly any basis for making microscopic comparison between people in different situations of social challenges. Awolowo lived in his time, faithfully served his people, delivered results, met challenges with courage, did his part of the work of liberty and left a respectable legacy. It was Nelson Mandela's lot to be confronted by the monster of apartheid. He fought bravely and for twenty seven years, wrestled hate and cruelty, sacri ...

The Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, at its special meeting held on Monday, 23rd December, 2013  has approved that the University resumes for full academic activities on January 5, 2014.
The Legacy of Obafemi Awolowo A Social and Economic Thinker and Implementer of Global Stature I describe Obafemi Awolowo as a social and economic thinker and implementer of global significance. I describe him in these terms because I believe his mastery of social and economic engineering is incontestable. His political strategies, though admired by many, might not receive the sam level of acclaim. His legacy in South West education and infrastructural development seems second to none in Nigerian history, a verdict likely to be either agreed with or give a degree of accreditation, if not full acceptance, even by those who do not like him. An Igbo friend who does not identify with Awolowo on account of what he understands as the adept of Ikenne's tribalism stated that he wishes Awolowo was Igbo and but even then he is happy he was Nigerian and not from any other nationality. Somebody once complained that Awo would have done better to concentrate on the Yoruba rather than expend so much resources on se ...
Forget past mistakes and press on to greater mistakes -Obafemi Awolowo. It was a mistake on the part of the Yoruba to have allowed Gambari and the Yibo to declared a State of Emergency throughout the Yorubaland in the First Republic. It was also a mistake we allowed both Gambari and the Yibo to imprisoned Awolowo and other Yoruba for 10 years. We made another mistake to have allowed the Gambari assassinated and murdered Kudirat and MKO Abiola respectively. Now gullible Yoruba Youths are calling on the Gambari to come and have a go at the presidency again after their first non-stopped 50 years regime. We are the generation that will put a stop to Gambari born-to-rule mentality in Nigeria. If they are unwilling to support Fashola, or Frank Kokori or Chief Oyegun, or Adams, then four more years to President Jonathan if Nigeria remains beyond 2015.
Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe, Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa, Okotieboh and handful of others in their line, were the Last True Democrats, Selfless Leaders & Progressives Nigeria has ever had. Their successors are Un-Democratic, Selfish, Mean, Cruel, & Anti-Progressive Elders. The present crop of Political Elders, (they are not Leaders) are just using Awo's, Zik's, Ahmadus, Tafawa's , Okotieboh's, e.t.c good names to cajole us to vote for them into office. These Political Elders have absolutely nothing in common with the Vission & Mission which Awo, Zik, Ahmadu, Tafawa, Okotieboh had for Nigeria. Tell me, who among the present day political Elders have the same vission & mission for our country as these past Political Leaders? Name just one and do not be biased, ethnical, tribalistic, or partisan in your judgement. Good Morning.
Chief Obafemi Awolowo born in 1909 contested in 1979 & 1983 for Presidency - 70yrs & 74 yrs old respectively. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe born in 1904, also contested in 1979 & 1983 fro Presidency - 75yrs & 79yrs respectively. Nigerians never raised any questions, but for Buhari, they will always look for excuse to discredit him. If either of the two above were to be alive today, & they contest, Nigerians may gladly vote for them without raising questions of age! Again, Chief Bola Ige, born 1930, also contested in 1999, at 69, nobody remembered his age! If he were alive in 2003, 2007 & today, he may still contest, people may not remember his age!
Erelu Lola Ayonrinde Wrote: Nigeria is an artificial entity. As Obafemi Awolowo sagaciously observed, Nigeria is a mere geographical expression and not a nation-state. Nigeria is composed of many ethnic groups forcefully conglomerated against their will. In 1914, Frederick Lugard, a Briton, without consulting the various ethnic groups that live in the geographical space now called Nigeria, arbitrarily amalgamated the various groups into one human polity. He did so not for the people’s good but for British national interest (each European power was scrambling to secure as much African territory for itself as was possible).

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was a politician of repute in his days. As a politician he was not a local champion but a national figure. All he had wanted was to rule the nation NIgeria with his welfarism ideology. In all his campaigns, it was not all about becoming the president but about a phillosophy. Interestingly, Chief Awolowo never became President, but today we talk about Disciples, Apostles and students of Chief Obafemi Awolowo politics. You cannot study Political Science, History or Law in Nigeria today without studying about the person and politics of Awolowo. Albeit, Awolowo was a LEADER. A leader of Yoruba race and A National Leader. However, my question, Do we have at least 1 person that we can say have, if not same, but similar quality. Awolowo was teaching politics, so you go to him making notes. What does our leaders today teach? Go and kill so,so; don't go or relate with this and that; NO PRINCIPLE, NO IDEOLOGY, NO PHILOSOPHY! Nigeria: OBJ: Egbon Goodluck Jonathan should file charges against him. WHEN OBASANJO MOVES TROUBLE FOLLOWS Perhaps, the furore generated by the Obasanjo letter may not have mattered if the former president’s vituperations had not been precursors to unwholesome repercussions. For a man who has a history of fore-bearing repercussions of gargantuan proportions, even a perceptively weak president must be worried. Sometime in 1975, a group of lecturers in the University of Ibadan (numbering five) were engaged in a very hot argument about some comments made by then Federal Commissioner for Works (Obasanjo) about General Yakubu Gowon, the then head of state. Their argument was hinged on the propriety of such a statement coming from a serving commissioner in such an administration. In the coming weeks, Gowon ceased to be head of state. Immediately after the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, congress where Obafemi Awolowo chose Sir Umeadi as his running mate for the 1979 presidential election, Obasanjo, as military leader, sent words to Awolowo, according to sources who were inside Do . ...
Stop saying you don't have enough time... Still on OBJ's letter to GEJ. I have read through the Obj's letter, and the reactions that followed, majority of the people that. commented berated the writer of the said letter either on moral ground or on his relationship with Gej. However, the question I want to ask my fellow Nigerians is, who is qualify to write this type of letter? If it were Femi Falana, they will call hin an extremist and radical whose stock in trade is to formemt trouble, supposing it is from Lai Mohammed's desk, our people will say the opposition is out to destroy pdp, let's even assume its from the secretary of Arewa Consultative forum, the people will not hesitate to say the North is out to discredit Gej just to assume power come 2015. If it were pastor/politician Tunde Bakare, we will quickly discredit him as a bad looser. Pls answer these Questions: (1) If South Africans denied Nelson Mandela not to be their president after fought for independent, What situation South Africa would be today? (2) If Nigerians allow Obafemi Awolowo to rule how Nigeria would be today?
The rise of public administration and the discovery of petroleum and natural gas are two major events seen to have led to a litany of ignoble corrupt practices in the country. Over the years, the country has seen its wealth withered with little to show in living conditions of the average human being. A Nigerian political leader, Obafemi Awolowo raised a salient issue when he said, since independence, our governments have been a matter of few holding the cow for the strongest and most cunning to milk, Under those circumstances everybody runs over everybody to make good at the expense of others...so public position holders have seen polical positions as a way to enrich their self and their families.this has to stop,THE TIME FOR NIGERIAN YOUTHS TO ACT IS NOW!
"...If Nigeria should collapse today, Obasanjo should be blamed.." “Obasanjo has no moral right to condemn Jonathan. Jonathan was a docile Deputy Governor in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, when Obasanjo used him to displace the then Governor Dipreye Alamieyeseigha and also used him to defeat Atiku by pairing him with the late Umaru Yar’Adua against the PDP’s choice of Donald Duke and Peter Odili. “You remember this same Obasanjo backed Shagari against Obafemi Awolowo. He has been giving us presidents we do not want and the result is what Nigeria has become today"~ Opeola Omisore

"it is not the life that matters but the courage u bring to it." Chief Obafemi Awolowo
Today, as the world continue to pour praises for Madiba of the world. I remember our own ATB, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo. These great sons of Africa, would have raised the glory of this nation high. But for the ambitious revolutionaries whom the only good to do, is not to talk about them now. A critical study of their lifes and time revealed that they had good intentions. They mearnt well. Infact, they are in a hurry to deliver. And most of their acrimony was born out of this urgency to get their in time. Those who do not know should know, and those who know should tell it accurately to those who do not know.
Its an established fact that over 90% of exceptional leaders in history all over the world have been LAWYERS. Its an esoteric profession that breeds Men of Substance, Ingenuity, and Exceptional strenght of Character. Men like Mohandas Ghandi, Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Barrack Obama, Bill Clinton, Obafemi Awolowo, Babatunde Fashola, Lord Denning, Margaret Thatcher, Adedeji Kazeem. Just to name a few. It is indeed a select profession.
Nelson Mandela is dead, Obafemi Awolowo is long dead, Chinua Achebe is dead, Fela Anikulapo Kuti is dead, M.K.O Abiola is dead, Tai Solarin is dead. Well I don't have a problem wif dead men but my interest is whether younger generations are making sure they replace them... Awolowo, Zik, Others To Get Award The Managing Director, Micnet Concepts International, Mr. Mike Neboh, has said the level of educational growth in the country would not have been possible without the deliberate efforts of nationalists like the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chinua Achebe, Chief Babatunde Fafunwa, Tai Solarin, among others. Thus in March next year, they will be given post-humous awards tagged Educational Icons Award. Neboh also said others still alive, including Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof. Jubril Aminu and the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo would also be honoured. “Although the education sector has passed through twists and turns in the last 53 years, the achievements of our heroes past, whose visions, programmes and actions laid the foundation for education in Nigeria and their remarkable achievements remain indelible to us. “Like the founding fathers, several other Nigerians have also made their marks in various fields and are widely ...
If we are really sincere in our desire to stamp out tribalism, we must put an end to, at least, most of the manifold evils which abound and proliferate, with general approval in a capitalist economy. Try as we have, we will not succeed otherwise.Chief Obafemi Awolowo

The PDP Governors” Merger With The APC By Dr. Wumi Akintide If any of you believe that PDP leaders are not troubled and would not lose any sleep over this development, you will it if I tell you I have an island to sell to you in the Pacific. The development cannot be music to their ears but it has to be seen as a welcome development for Nigeria and majority of us who have been waiting and praying to celebrate the end of a one party dictatorship in our country following 38 years of military rule which have proved to be more of a curse than a blessing to a potentially great country with so much going for it but so little to show for it in 53 years of self rule. Those who wish the best for Nigeria would never support a one party dictatorship like Obasanjo their most preeminent leader says he wants for Nigeria when he tells anybody who will listen his plan is to have the P.D.P rule the country for 100 years. He saw his decision to hand-pick candidates for the presidency as the instrument for achieving that ...
Can APC sustain tempo? The All Progressives Congress (APC) is enlarging its coast. But, there are more hurdles to cross. EMMANUEL OLADESU and LEKE SALAUDEEN examine the challenges that will confront the opposition party, ahead of 2015 general elections. The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thought that it was a joke. When the merger was being mooted, its chieftains predicted doom for the merging parties. Even, when the All Progressives Congress (APC) was registered by the electoral commission, PDP chieftains dismissed it as an empty threat. But, following the defection of five aggrieved PDP governors to the APC, the ruling party became jittery. Now, the stage for a titanic battle for power at the federal and state levels in the next general elections. The decision of the defunct parties-the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)-and a section of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to evolve a strong platform was a majo ...
BETWEEN S.L. AKINTOLA AND OBAFEMI AWOLOWO In an interview with the Punch newspaper on 30th November 2013, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a great nationalist, a two-time former Commisioner of Education of the old Western Region, a former Governor of Oyo state, one of our few remaining elderstatesman and a man that played a prominent role in the politics of both the First and Second republics said the following- "Chief S.L. Akintola was the supreme leader. Chief Obafemi Awolowo left (the Premiership of the Western Region) of his own volition without advice to contest the federal election. In the federal election he contested but he had no alliances. Stubborn, aggressive, very hardworking, visionary leader that Awolowo was, he never understood real politics at any time. In real politics you have to look at the figures, you have to have allies- there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies. You must have some allies. Nigeria is too fragmented for you not to have allies. If you are counting in the prescence of so ...
OGBENI RAUF AREGBESOLA AND THE CLAMOUR FOR SECOND TERM – BIOREPORTS The Political landscape in the State of Osun is again taking a new shape ahead of 2014 gubernatorial election. Key politicians especially in the camps of the two dominant parties (The APC which is currently giving the people of the State the real dividends of democracy and the PDP which was ousted from office due to a stolen mandate in late 2010) have commenced moves to outwit one another in the next year political contest. As rightly summed by Bongos Ikwe in one of his famous old tunes “Nothing good comes easy”. Thus, for the incumbent man, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the road to the State House, Oke Fia was not only rough but turbulent. Going down the memory lane, during the stormy period, Aregbesola, to the power that be then in the State of Osun was more or less regarded as political liability and a truant whose presence on the street of Osogbo or Ilesa; his home town was always an issue. He was to say the least a “security Risk ...

Jonathan May Be Nigeria’s Last President If… By: OLAOLU OLADIPO on November 30, 2013 - leadership newspaper Pastor Ladi Thompson is the presiding pastor of the Lagos based Living Waters Unlimited Church and also an influential member of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and a public Affairs analyst. In this interview with OLAOLU OLADIPO in Lagos, he appraises the centenary celebrations of the country, saying Nigeria has become an under achiever but that conscious efforts must be made to bring it back from its continuous slide. Nigeria will be 100 years in few weeks time, can you give a general assessment of how well the country has fared in the comity of nations as a corporate entity? Looking at the state of the nation, I think what all of us should do is to declare a day of national thinking. The biggest problem we have in addressing the numerous problems plaguing the country is that we have not been doing much thinking in Nigeria. What do you mean by this? What I am saying is that we must e ...
Just read through and find interesting to share with my fb friends. You can all agree with me that WS is a story anyday, anytime. I’d Rather Drink Wine Than Take Water- Wole Soyinka Professor Wole Soyinka was his vintage self responding to questions about his life, activism, and muse amongst others during an interaction with four undergraduates at the just concluded Ake Arts and Book Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The audience broke into spontaneous applause as he walked briskly into the hall attired in his trademark collarless shirt and holding a jacket. They kept applauding till he climbed the stage. Then there was silence. Pin drop silence as he took his seat. Though he had not yet uttered a word, it was as if the guests inside the Banquet Hall of June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, Ogun State was aware of the scintillating performance that awaited and was thanking him in advance. It was vintage Kongi. The Nobel Laureate was as candid as he was evasive. He elaborated on questions he wished to ...

Federal Government’s ultimatum to striking university teachers further compounds students’ ordeals, CHARLES ABAH writes For over 150 days, Emmanuel Eze, a post- graduate student of Mass Communication at the Benue State University, Makurdi, has been idling away at home, no thanks to the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. Like thousands of other students in the country, Eze initially hoped that the strike would be short. But it had dragged on indefinitely and in the process, delayed the progress of his academic programmme, which, he thought, would have ended last September. To make matters worse, just when he had begun to look forward to a resolution of the conflict, his hope was suddenly dashed as the Federal Government, through the Supervising Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike, issued a directive to the striking lecturers last Thursday, ordering them to go back to work before December 4 or face dismissal. ASUU had quickly responded by asking its members to i ...

I read this article by one Ayokunle odekunle, it's on the ASUU strike, here is it in part So, on my chair, after recollecting this story, last Friday, ASUU’s case came to my mind. To me, their case is akin to that of Tortoise and his father-in-law. When this present strike started, they had the sympathy of all. They claimed they were fighting for better educational system (when instead they are fighting for their pockets). They shut the Universities and were blowing hot and cold on the pages of newspapers. Quite naturally, everybody blamed the government of the day. They blamed President Goodluck Jonathan for the strike (even when the history of the strike can be traced to the 1990s). After much pleading, they refused to yield. They reiterated that government must meet 100 per cent of their demands. President Jonathan decided to meet with them. He became the first President to negotiate directly with ASUU. In a meeting that spanned almost 13 hours, he begged and cajoled them to get back to work at least ...

Adeolu Akinyemi wrote a new note: Failure Lessons: Sweet to Street. Before I forget, since I do not intend to forget, let me share with you some of my stories of failure and how I was able to learn from them. Experience is a costly teacher, so it's better you learn from the experience of others. Someone even puts it in an even more interesting way, "Experience is a cruel teacher, it gives you the lessons and examples after you fail". I have had my fair share of failure experiences, and it's time to begin to catalogue them, perhaps you can learn from mine, and avert yours. It was one of my early years experiences in business. It was 1996, I was in part one Electronics and Electrical Engineering in Obafemi Awolowo University, and we were in one of those long courses called ASUU 101. It was our first experience spending a whole year on one single course, while doing the course as homework. The power tussle in the Nigerian education system had caught us in it's grip, it was Federal Government Vs ASUU, two ele ...
It is sad that most of the African elite and millions of their groping followers are still preoccupied with primeval issues and fanning the damaging embers of ethnicity and alien religion; while only an insignificant few really think of development for the sake of posterity as did men like Tom Mboya, Julius Nyerere, Obafemi Awolowo, Gani Fewehinmi, Ambrose Alli, Nelson Mandela or Thomas Sankara. Who is your hero or heroine among present-day Nigerian and African leader and politicians?

Kwane Nkrumah, who said in the fifties of twentieth century at the height of the struggle for independence from colonial rule in Africa that "seek ye first the Political kingdom and every other thing will be added unto you. In paraphrasing the bible Nkrumah was pointing out and emphasising the utmost importance of controlling of the political power to the socia-economic transformation process. History has it that the likes of Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Belewa, Joseph Tarka and Aminu Kano, all began their political careers in their youthful ages. They founded the organizations which negotiated with colonial regime while they were youths and assuming leadership of this country while still in their forties. The point being made here is that Nigerian youths of this generation have a decisive historical task to undertake, one hinges around undertaking the transformation of our country, achieving our national liberation from the death grip of globalization and laying the foundation of ...

Today’s youths are angry at the nation’s leaders. They are exasperated by the tale of how good the nation once was to its youths, a story that runs contrary to their experiences. SULAIMON OLANREWAJU reports. ENGINEER Ernest Ndukwe, former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), once told the story of how he landed a job before the completion of his youth service. “I graduated from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo) in 1975 and went for my National Youths Service Corps in Lagos. Before I completed the youth service, I got job offers from two companies. After the service, I decided to join a company called Radio Communications Nigeria Limited (RCN). In those days, you had a choice of job selection. I was offered a job with Lever Brothers Nigeria Ltd as a trainee manager with a higher remuneration. It was a 50 per cent higher pay than my salary at RCN but because I felt RCN was more in tune with what I studied, I jettisoned the idea of working with Lever Brothe ...

How the arrest of Obafemi Awolowo for treason in 1962 led to the freedom of minorities from the old Western Region in 1963. _ BENIN AND THE MIDWEST REFERENDUM In May 1962, an important development occurred within the Western Region and Action Group which would open the way for the Midwest to bolt out of the West. A crisis erupted between Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo (Party Leader and Leader of the Federal Opposition in Lagos) and Samuel Akintola (Premier of the West). This crisis had many causes [Sanya Onabamiro, Glimpses into Nigerian History. MacMillan Nigeria, 1983. p149]. For one, the positions of party leader (Awolowo) and head of government in the Western Region (Akintola) were held by two different persons, one from the non-Oyo group of rain forest Yorubas (Awolowo from Ijebu) and the other from the Oyo group of savannah Yorubas (Akintola from Ogbomosho). Secondly, Akintola felt that Awolowo ought not to have allowed any competition with him as “deputy leader” for the position of Premier when Awolowo ...

If we can take a look at Prince Dayo Adeyeye Antecedent, his political antecedent ditto his service,Even he was one of the people who constitude the idea of Oodua Development Council which was plan for the overall economic development of Yoruba race. A MUST-READ: Abia sacked workers’ recall The decision by the Abia State Government to to recall the non-indigenes discharged from the state’s civil service and throw the doors open for an all-inclusive hiring of new staff comes as a big relief. It was certainly not the easiest or best decision to take, even by those who initiated it. The policy put Abia and Lagos States on the spotlight as states that took discrimination towards non-indigenes to a new level. While Abia was seen to have sacked “fellow Igbos” because they were not from the state, Lagos was portrayed as deporting fellow Nigerians to their states of origin because they were poor and destitute non-indigenes. While the Abia episode is no different from the routine degrees of discrimination against non-indigenes in all the 36 states of the federation, especially in terms of employment opportunities and other privileges such as education and bursaries for students, the Lagos State matter was an outright assault on the constitutional right ...

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria owes its origin to the Dominican Order. The coming of the Order itself was the fruit of the desire of Archbishop David Mathew, the Apostolic delegate to English Speaking East and West Africa for its presence in West Africa. On 4 October 1949, he wrote to the Provincial Fr Edward Hughes O.P. asking for Dominicans of the Province of St. Albert the Great in the United States of America to come to Nigeria. This request prompted Fr Hughes to visit Lagos in November 1949. Following his recommendation, the Provincial Council approved the Lagos foundation. The pioneer team comprising Frs. Dempsey, Lawton and Kinsella flew into Lagos on 27 February 1951. The following day, the Archbishop of Lagos formally requested the Dominicans to take responsibility for the Yaba mission then on the outskirts of Lagos. On 18 May, 1951, Archbishop Mathew renewed his earlier request to Fr. Hughes for the Dominicans to take a mission prefecture comprising the old Sokoto Province. After tw ...

PART SIX - 'NATIONAL' QUESTIONS Permit me to ask the following questions. Tokunbo AremoOdua has asked one of them and I will repeat it as my first question here: 1. The Hausa/Fulani killed the Igbos including the Middle-Belters. The (old) BENDEL, that is, the Benin-Delta people, also betrayed the Igbos. The today four states' people, that is, Rivers, cross-River, Akwa-Ibom and Balyelsa states, equally betrayed the Igbos, why was (and still is) it that it is only the Yorubas that the Igbo hates like extrata or snake? 2. Why was the Igbo expecting our cooperation by all means even when it was apparent that the decision to stage the January 15th 1966 coup never had our leaders' imput and even, at Aburi, the bargain was, ab inito, virtually between the Hausas and the igbos? Se won bi soni mo eja ni? Must we go together? 3. Could and can any Igbo claim the ignorance of the fact that the Yoruba people, for the best reason known to them, then, had no soldiers? 4. Let all the Igbo people be sincere here, even if ...

PART THREE - OBAFEMI AWOLOWO It was the quagmire that happened that took the third force to Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Leader of the Yoruba people. Soyinka says: "It was during this seeming suspension of reality and intense speculation that we decided that the state of mind of Obafemi Awolowo had to be ascertained, and urgently." The messenger was no other person than Soyinka. According to Soyinka; "Bola(Ige) set up the appointment with the leader of the former Action Group, now bestowed with the superfluos and unenviable title of 'Leader of the Yoruba' by the Governor of the Western Region, Colonel Adebayo" The concern of the third force wasn't only the war but mainly the safety of Awo. Hear the Prof.: "... we were deeply apprehensive of his(Awo's) safety, perhaps no one more than I. Had a swaggering officer, a Major, and of the same Yoruba stock, not boasted to my face that he would personally take Awolowo to the nearest crossroads, tie him to a stake and shoot him as an example because 'we know what he ...
PART TWO - BACKGROUND The Nigeria independence was fought for, primarily, by the Igbos and the Yorubas. It got to a point that stones were throne to the Sadauna and his co-delegates at Lagos while boarding train back to the North because they said they were not ready for independence. Again, lack of northern support could be gotten through the fact that the East and West got their self government status in 1957 while the north was 1959, shortly before the national independent in 1960. Despite the above fact, perhaps intrinsically so, the British unduly favoured the North in the census and other apparatus of political governance. Yes, no one will debate the fact that it was virtually on all measurement and social evaluation did the South weigh far and above the North but because of the British assistance, the North got things in their favour. Worse, the census that took place in 1963, which was by ourselves, blacks, Nigerians, was worse than even the disputed British ones. Let's check: North - 29.7 Millio ...
BIAFRAN CIVIL WAR - THE GUILT? PART ONE - INTRODUCTION At least for over 43 years now, the Igbo people have insisted on castigation of the Yorubas as betrayals. They claimed that the Yorubas refused to fulfil their promise, some of them even called it a signed agreement, to join the Igbo Eastern Nigeria during their secession attempt for 30 months duration. Their claims are many but can be broadly situated in two premises: that it was Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu, as Governor of Eastern Nigeria, that released Obafemi Awolowo from the treasonable felony imprisonment terms he was serving at Calabar; and secondly; that Awolowo did agree with Ojukwu to equally secede along with the East. This is what I wish to address as much as what my capacity can carry me. I implore those who know far beyond my little brain to contribute further. This write-up is directed at the following categories of people: (a) the young Yorubas who knew virtually nothing about the war. This category would soon be deceived by lies, hypes an ...

Utaan Terhide Conrad MUHAMMADU BUHARI: A GIANT OF A MAN General Muhammadu Buhari is a polarizing figure. You either love him or hate him. But that’s okay. Most statesmen are polarizing, anyway. In so many ways, he reminds me of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo: tough, uncompromising, visionary, tenacious, honest, and loyal. His mantra is simple: performance and accountability. Regrettably these attributes have not been welcomed in the Nigeria of the last three decades. And I would posit that it is because Nigeria was unappreciative of men like Buhari, Idiagbon and Awolowo that we’ve found ourselves in the current social-economic and political cesspit Since his forced departure from office, lesser men have been at the helms of our national affairs. Any wonder then that we mistake mediocrity for excellence, stupidity for intelligence, and cowardice for bravery? It is a national tragedy to have shunned men like Buhari who is a patriot, a nationalist, and an embodiment of political and personal morality. At ...
“Violence never settles anything right: apart from injuring your own soul, it injures the best cause. It lingers on long after the object of hate has disappeared from the scene to plague the lives of those who have employed it against their foes.” – Obafemi Awolowo
OUR LEADERS ARE CAPABLE OF KILLING OUR FUTURE IF THEY WERE NOT CHECKED. “If a crazy man is left to take care of his/her late parent corpse, he/she could roasted it' Nigeria is a country of many great people in Africa. People like; Sir Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikwe, Obafemi Awolowo and many more of their liKes (of their blessed memory). These people fought tirelessly to gain liberty for this country. But, look @ what visionless & missionless leaders of today have turned the country to due to the kleptocratic and megalomania system of leadership they choose. Some years back in the history of our pitiful country, ASUU had strike for a year. What a condolence for our country built on the freedom and equality but that have now turned into detention center. No pipe born water for all, our road network system is an easiest way to heaven while PHCN offices are full of generating plans. President, the father of the nation has turn his children to hunting animals while Governors are behaving like bull-dogs. Both o ...
Zwingina exposes G7 governors •They are working against the North, says ex-Senator Senator Jonathan Zwingina was the Deputy Senate Leader in the 5th National Assembly. He had served as Manager in the Presidential campaigns of the late Chief MKO Abiola in 1993 and Chief Olu Falae in 1999. He was also a member of the campaign train of Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the 1979 election. In this interview with senior journalists in Abuja, he talked about activities of the G7governors, the crisis in the PDP, the threat of APC and the prospects of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election. RAZAQ BAMIDELE brings the excerpts. Your State, Adamawa, seems to be going to the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), in particular, as it appears Governor Murtala Nyako has declared for the opposition. Is he carrying all of you along with him to APC? Let me first and foremost say it is not entirely correct that my state, Adamawa, is going to the opposition. What is happening is that the governor and a few of his s ...

Chinedu 20th November 2013 - VERBATIN CONVERSATION AS FOLLOWS: ERELU : Brother Chinedu there appear to be a lot of anger between the IGBO & Yoruba Youths how can this be effectively dealt with. Brother Dapo seems to be suggesting that the IGBOS want to live in Lagos by force. Bro.Chinedu: My sister, it is really unfortunate that those who would bear the brunt of any crisis are the ones agitating for it. I don't live in Lagos and don't know why this sudden animosity among certain persons over Lagos, but I imagine that 'deportations' to Onitsha started the fire. It is the responsibility of those who started and stoked that fire (Fashola and Oji Uzo Kalu, inclusive) to quench it. Nigeria needs peace right now. But I can assure you that Oladimeji (not our friend in London) and Dapo are not representative of the Yor . ...

One unique feature of the game is that it has over 450 names and pictures of those who have participated in one form or the other in governance in Nigeria from pre-colonial era to the present time, including the sage, Chief Obafemi Awol ...
Why 'WE' Igbos would Never Vote for Anything Yoruba in Igboland- by Comrade Biafra Diboh The Rooster otherwise called *** is a symbol of All Progresive Grand Alliance(APGA) an Igbo party. The *** The Party was the first party to be rejected by Yoruba precisely 62years ago. So what happened in Anambra - rejection of Yoruba dominated APC was after all a Pay back. ...with the victory of the *** [NCNC]- in 1951 Election, all was set for Great Zik to be sworn in as the First leader of Western Region Government but such optimism was aborted by Action Group Leader, Late Obafemi Awolowo who preached tribalism to his people asking them why must an 'Omo Yibbo' be crowned the King of Yoruba. And on the day of swearing-in more than 30% of Zik's Party along with few members of the alliance cross carped to Action Group. Obafemi Awolowo therefore became the first Leader of Government Business/Premier on that day. This was how the seed of tribalism was perfectly executed by the 'father of Nigeria tribalism'. Lecture delivered at the investiture ceremony of the 6th President of the Rotaract Club of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.   INTRODUCTION Let me firstly thank the organizers of this program for giving me the opportunity to speak to this audience. I must say that the topic you gave me is apt and very relevant at this moment of our history as a nation. There is no more appropriate time than now for the youths of the nation to be enlightened and prepared to participate in the work of nation building if indeed we desire a better country for ourselves. That said I will proceed to attempt the sacred task you have given to me trusting God to grant me the appropriate words that will strike the cords of your hearts and move you to take appropriate and decisive actions from today onwards on the subject of our discussion.     THE PAST The entity called Nigeria came into existence in 1914 through the amalgamation of the Lagos and Niger Coast protectorates (also known as Oil River or Southern Protectorate), and the Nort ...

History of Osun State Encyclopedia » History Osun   Image: Map of Nigeria showing the positon of Osun State   Osun State was created following series of pressure mounted on the federal military government over a long period of time by the founding fathers, most of whom are traditional rulers and community leaders. Col. Ajiborisa pioneered the new State between August 1991 and January 1992, when an election was conducted under the zero party system which was introduced by then Military President Ibrahim Babangida. It was that election that saw the emergence of Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke as the governor of the state. As the first Executive Governor of the state, Otunba Adeleke was in power for about 23 months (January 1992 – November 1993) before the military government aborted the transition to full civilian administration. Lagos East should produce next governor, says Ikuforiji Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji has said that the Lagos East Senatorial District should produce the governor in 2015. He said, having produced the three Speakers, who brought honour to the state and party six times, the district is qualified to produce the next governor. Ikuforiji observed that there are competent men and women in the district, who can succeed Governor Babatunde Fashola, urging the people to intensify their agitation for power shift. The Speaker also reflected on his trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying that he will triumph over the predicament. He said: “EFCC or not, it is vanity. They will reap vanity. You know me; I will always speak my mind. Because of that, I incur the wrath of some people. God always deliver me and he will continue to deliver me”. The Speaker, who is believed to be eyeing the governorship, spoke at the meeting of the Lagos East All Progressives Congres ...
the 23 governorship candidates that filed out for the Anambra elections last Saturday, Senator Chris Ngige, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer is arguably, the most experienced in terms of managing affairs at the Government House. At least, he has been there before and left indelible footprints. One Anambra politician said Ngige’s popularity arose from the landmark achievements he recorded during his illegal three-year tenure. “Ngige made us to know that there is money in government. Before Ngige, our political leaders used to tell us that the state government cannot do anything because they don’t get anything from the Federal Government, that because the Igbos lost the civil war, they no longer receive allocation from Abuja, and so there is no development and Federal presence in the South-East. Ngige showed us that godfathers who were milking the state were responsible for the lack of development in Anambra. He stopped the godfathers and used the money to build roads and provide in ...
Nnamdi Azikiwe by Max Siollun s Nigeria’s foremost nationalist and first post independence Head of State, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was (and still should be) to Nigeria, what George Washington is to America, Nkrumah is to Ghana, Nasser is to Arabs, and Mandela is to South Africa. The fact that he is not so remembered is a sad testament to Nigeria’s legacy keeping and failure to honour its founding fathers. Azikiwe transcended national politics to become an icon. He is the father of post independence Nigeria. alt 1966 Crisis, Coup and Biafra Although Azikiwe was abroad when Nigeria experienced its first military coup in January 1966, he offered to return soon after it. He was largely ignored by the military government of Major-General Aguiyi-Ironsi, which acted as if he did not exist. When the Igbo Eastern Region seceded from Nigeria in May 1967 as the republic of Biafra, it placed Azikiwe in a difficult position, and gave him a stark choice. He had the choice of either maintaining national unity by supporting ...

FREEDOM PARK From The Curator’s Desk ‘Price Paid; Freedom Earned’ captures the unique and eventful history of ‘Her Majesty’s Prison’ and its transition to ‘Freedom Park’. Following the Napoleonic wars, the British expanded trade with the Nigerian interior, thereby creating an avenue to possess the colony. Colonial Nigeria being a major factor is recognized here as one of the most important histories of the people, reigning from 1800 till October1, 1960 when the country gained independence. In August 1861, a British naval force entered Lagos Bay and seized the town in the name of Queen Victoria. King ‘Docemo’ was exiled and the consul William McCoskry became acting governor. As a colony, Lagos was now protected and governed directly from Britain. Africans born in the colony were British subjects, with full rights, including access to the courts. By contrast, Africans in the later protectorates of southern and northern Nigeria were protected people but remained under the jurisdiction of ...

Nigeria is a blessed country. It gained her independence in 1960 and attained republican status in 1963. It is a heterogeneous country with diversity of cultures and tribes of about 250 ethnic nationalities with the Yoruba, Igbo and the Hausa-Fulani as the dominant tribes. It is the most populated country on the African continent with over 160 million in population. It is the 6th largest producer of crude oil in the world and its rich and fertile soils speaks of its economic viability, wealth and prosperity. All these attest to the fact that human and material resources abound for Nigeria and these are the basic indices for the development of any nation. Reverse, however, is the case with Nigeria. That Nigeria is an underdeveloped country is a truism. I can affirm without equivocation that Nigeria does not qualify to be regarded by all standards as a developed nation as it is still categorized among the third world nations with substantially all the indices that underlie an underdeveloped country. To stat ...

Due to heterogeneous profile and ethnic polarisation in Nigeria we don't have a national hero of the past and present. A world class , wise and steadfast leader like Obafemi Awolowo whom Yoruba consider next to their proginator 'Oduduwa' is a Yoruba hero not a national hero, same to Zik, Ahmadu Bello and others. No wonder rere run!
NIGERIAN STUDENT. A cursory look into the decomposed state called Nig* , and the distillation of nebulous kind of people that lope within the boundary of our land, one would not but make bold to say that, our politrickcians who engaged in political nefarious activities of looting, indecent public representations, are building castles in the air. It is therefore quite unfortunate that students, and those who represent the articulate and the professionals that constitutes the progressive part of the society becomes a bogeyed object of ridicules in the hands of political war-lords who engaged in politics of stunt, enraged political argue and haggle. POLITICIANS PHLEGM SPITTING CANTONMENT OF LIES. When ASUU strike began on the 1st of July, 2013, I was therefore not optimistic that the strike would take up to four months but this has been the nadirs of our national hullabaloo as Federal Government shows insincerity to the plight of ASUU. It is therefore unfortunate that this politicians who claimed to be repre ...

APC: IMPROVING QUALITY OF POLITICAL PARTIES Category: Monday column Published on Monday, 04 November 2013 05:00 Written by Jibrin Ibrahim Hits: 3241 View Comments Last Tuesday, senior leaders of the opposition, the APC and the G-7 group of estranged PDP governors converged in Sokoto ostensibly for the inauguration of the Sokoto State University. The key item on the agenda however had nothing to do with tertiary education; the focus was the consolidation of the APC as a mega party that was capable of displacing the PDP from power. Following the Sokoto event, a delegation of the APC has been visiting the G7 governors and extending formal invitations for them to dump PDP and team up with the forthcoming mega party. I say forthcoming advisedly because since its registration by INEC, the APC has not tried to institutionalise itself. It had been focused in attracting the high and the mighty to join them in their enterprise of replacing the PDP in power. The question then becomes how different will they be from ...
looking at d hyper rate at which ppl surrender their WILL to the power of paper(money), i wonder if after waken Chief Obafemi Awolowo frm his grave yard, he cud still win a gubernitorial election with that nigerian capitalist, d person of Aliko Dangote even in Oyo state where he had most of his loyalists, giving that Awo will use his charismatic power alone and Dangote will use his financial capacity

OUR FATHER'S GENERATION! A FAILED GENERATION? When Nigeria gained independence from Britain in 1960 it was a feeling of hope, greatness, we had joined Ghana as an independent country, i was not there but i have watched documentaries, read books and had discussions. The british had left behind a wonderful structure, railways, good mission schools, university college, Ibadan, printing press, great structures, most still standing today. It was a feeling that, it can only get better. Our founding and fore Fathers took over, the likes of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa. They did well in developing their regions and the country as a whole, agriculture was the main stay, education was on the rise, men like chinua Achebe came up, Wole Soyinka, Aminu Kano and other great men. Then came the civil war and Nigeria began to collapse. Four major events brought about Nigeria's collapse, the military coups, the civil war,the oil boom and the entrance of our fathers into goverment, this wa ...
Maybe if Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo had become the president , Nigeria might have had another trajectory in global economy.
HOW SOME OF OUR FOUNDING FATHERS PLAYED THEIR OWN POLITICS INCLUDING ZIK., It is only fair to pay this well-deserved tribute to the memory of one of Nigeria’s founding fathers, Obafemi Awolowo. Despite all his ups and downs in the struggle for national leadership and even, after losing out, there was never, (repeat never) a time Awolowo accused his only major rivals, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Tafawa Balewa of conspiring against him. Ahmadu Bello, the late premier of the defunct northern region did not aspire to Nigeria’s national leadership. Why therefore is this political reminiscence? Not long ago, law teacher Itse Sagay stirred avoidable controversy when he strayed from an ordinary interview with a Lagos newspaper and pointedly accused former (ceremonial) president Nnamdi Azikiwe and Nigeria’s first (so far only) Prime Minister, the late Tafawa Balewa of conspiring against their political contemporary, Obafemi Awolowo. The alleged conspiracy, as specified by Itse Sagay, arose from the eventual outcome o ...

I've always wondered, without answers because I was too young to understand then. Please, tell me if you have any idea. What was the meaning of Chief Obafemi Awolowo's 2fingers symbol/sign?
When pple constantly refer to Nnmadi azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello as founding fathers of nigeria, i always want to refer them to history that Sir Lord Lugard amalgamated the north and south of nig in 1914 when only Nnmadi azikwe was 15yrs old

If Awolowo was called to answer in this way Biafrans would have gotten justice before he died a miserable death ::|:: Okonjo-Iweala denies granting waiver for armoured cars Obafemi Awolowo – Hero of the Yorubas, killer of Biafra, betrayed by the North The Ministry of Finance on Thursday said it did not grant waiver for the controversial N255m bulletproof cars purchased by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The disclosure came barely 24 hours after the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation was informed that the Federal Ministry of Finance and the National Security Adviser were made to believe that the two vehicles were for the 18th National Sports Festival (Eko Games 2012) hosted by Lagos State. But in a statement on Thursday and made available to our correspondent, the Coordinating Minister for the economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the waiver was granted only to the Lagos State Government and not for the purchase of the controversial armoured cars The statement b ...
Open letter to South-West governors Dear Sirs, I hope this letter meets you all in an atmosphere of renewed commitment to the promises you made on oath to deliver democracy dividends to the people in your different states and the planned integration of the South- West zone. To begin with, let me first congratulate you on being among the lucky crop of second generation leaders of the zone beginning with your predecessors in 1999. In spite of your enviable positions, you will all agree with me that it is indeed a rare privilege to be counted as successors to visionary leaders such as the cerebral Bola Ige; the meticulous Lateef Jakande; Bisi Onabanjo; Adekunle Ajasin; and even the revered patriarch himself, Obafemi Awolowo. These legends are known to have bequeathed enduring legacies of development to the zone. They are the famed architects of a region known to have long set governance and development benchmarks for the entire country. Their selfless performance created healthy competition among the regions ...
.And in Taraba State where a brain-dead survivor of a plane crash still collects salary as Governor and has continued to be propped up by his wife and a few political strategists for the sole purpose of retaining some access to public treasury. During the next general elections, we might as well raise the ghosts of the dead to contest elections in Nigeria. Knowing the mindset of our peoples, I will bet that the ghost of Obafemi Awolowo will win election any day in southwest Nigeria, just like the ghost of Ahmadu Bello will sweep the polls in the core north. Odumegwu Ojukwu's ghost will be unrivaled in the south east!.contd at

“To be a leader, you don’t need a POSITION (Pose-Situation) but a DISPOSITION (Disconnection from Pose-Situation). To 'POSE' is to pretend, to make believe, to create, to fake and to masquerade something while 'SITUATION' is simply a state of affairs. Therefore, 'POSITION' is simply a pretended, created, faked state of affairs. 'DISPOSITION', on the other hand, is the realization or discovery of one’s true nature, temperament and character and functioning thereby. That is what people like Martin Luther King, Martin Luther King (Jnr), Mahaitama Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Oliver Tambo, Nelson Mandela, Chris Hanni, Patrice Motsepe, Kwame Nkrumah, Ajayi Crowther , Herbert Macauley, Nnamdi Azikwe, Anthony Enahoro, Tafawa Balewa, Aliko Dangote, Obafemi Awolowo, Tai Solarin, Mike Adenuga, MYSELF and many others have discovered.” (An excerpt from the book ‘YOUR LIFE PREMIERE WAS VERY GOOD’ by Adeniyi Patrick)
