Tai Wo wrote and I concur: Mr Tunde Daniel Asekome Now, this is going way to far. Is Jonathan this bad and he is still in office? Was he the reason why Nigeria has been backward all these years of bountiful harvest from amalgamation to independence till date, and yet no progress. Is Jonathan the reason why there has been countless coup d'état in Nigeria? Is Jonathan the reason why some people declared war on indiscipline and were actually not sure how to deliver it, but turned it into an instrument of draconian oppression, suppression, and killing the educational system that was helping the poor to gain higher education while some others in the country gain Federal Government bursaries? Is Jonathan that bad that he revamped our fast dead and forgotten Railway system? Is Jonathan so bad that he very effectively empowered women whom most of our Chauvinist would rather prefer they remained in the kitchen and bedrooms of their homes? Was Jonathan the reason why the likes of Ambrose Ali, Obafemi Awolowo, Vice ...

Attention all Buharists: If Our Past Leaders Did Well, We Would Have Gone Beyond Here. My decision for supporting President Goodluck Jonathan does not go down well with some of my friends and I ask them one simple question but they have not been able to answer me. I remember what happened in 1978 when the ban on political activities was lifted, the Northern political elite were united in asking for Olusegun Obasanjo to run for the presidency. The man refused to listen but they mounted pressured on him. Why? They said he was their friend when he first ruled the country. Nobody told them it was a long time ago that Obasanjo had ruled. I remembered one of the reasons given was the location of the Kaduna refinery which was built when Muhamadu Buhari was the Federal Commissioner for Petroleum. I am now asking the Buharists to remind me of what their hero did for the South where I come from either as the Head of state or as the Executive Chairman, PTF under the watch of the expired maximum tyrant, Sani Abacha w ...

CHIEF OBASANJO AND HIS POLITICAL IRRELEVANCE By Iyke Nwambie Many of us remember Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's political tantrums in different ways. I remember how we stood in the sun along Lagos Badagry Expressway almost all-day long in 1978 trying to catch a glimpse of him during one of his few visits to the ancient town of Badagry while in Primary school. And after what looked like waiting for ever, many of us ended up not seeing him. Now, why did we not see him? Was it because he was invisible? No..no...and no! It was because he played one of his several stunts on everybody. Instead of sitting in the then Official car of the Military head of state which was part of his entourage, he chose to sit in a nondescript Toyota Coaster bus! And while we argued amongst us if he really did that? I overheard one of my teachers say this: This Obasanjo man sef, na wa for am! Well, it is interesting to note that even after all these years, both as a keen observer of the Nigerian political happenstances and as an a ...

WE'LL CHANGE THAT...-GOV. FASHOLA. In what should be called a compelling and heart touching speech delivered by Gov. Babatunde Fashola at the at the 'Obafemi Awolowo Free Education' organised by Faculty of Education in Obafemi Awolowo University, the light went off while the lecture was on-going for few minutes but it was later restored. The comment of relentless Gov. Fashola was that 'We'll change that''. This is a pointer that APC as a party is committed to making lives better.
We need a change... but not A BUHARI IN THIS 21ST Century.. THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA IS THE FUTURE AND NOT THE PAST (1) Think of the kind of nation the colonial masters bequeathed to us before leaving. They instituted different political, social and legal system in the North and South, but still ran the country as one and left us without any attempt at righting the wrongs they’ve instituted. (2) Think of the pogroms in the North against the Igbo and Southerners. What were the reasons for this? There was no reason more than that the Igbo and Southerners were seen as taking over the economy and geographical space of the Northerner in a supposed one, free Nigeria. (3) Think of the First Republic and the issues that led to its demise. These issues ranged from the obvious injustices perpetrated at the centre by a majoritarian oligarchy, which then led to electoral violence in the West and national distrust in the Niger-Delta. (4) Think of beginning of military intervention in politics and the cost to the nation ...
Youths in Political History of Nigeria: Historically, the political story of Nigeria would be incomplete without the indelible records of past youth participation and involvements. The Pre-independence efforts of Nigerian youths contributed much to the achievement of independence in Nigeria as a nation. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Anthony Enahoro and others who championed the cause of Nigerian Independence were young students. They started their agitation for independence as student Unions activist, and carried on formidable groups that challenged colonial rule. Anthony Enahoro was about twenty one years old when he moved the motion for the independence of Nigeria. Yakubu Gwon was only twenty-nine years old when he because the Head of State of Nigeria. Late Isaac Boro, fresh from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka was in his thirties when he formed the Niger Delta volunteer Force and later fought for the emancipation of his people. Finally if the youths of my generation will copy ...

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was imprisoned on trumped-up charges by Hausa Fulani controlled Federal Government of Nigeria [FGN] because they could not manipulate him. However, following the rebellion by Eastern Region against FGN and likely secession of Western Region from Nigeria, Chief Awolowo was released from prison and appointed Federal Commissioner of Finance and Vice Chairman of Federal Executive Council [FEC]. Because of Chief Awolowo’s sincere and selfless contributions to the fatherland, Western Region did not secede and the Civil War was brought to an end earlier than it would have been without him. But when General Mohammed overthrew General Gowon in 1975, he dropped Chief Awolowo as Federal Commissioner of Finance and abolished the office of Vice Chairman of FEC. The question is, if the military could work with a civilian Vice Chairman of FEC during the civil war, what genuine excuse did late General Mohammed have t ...

Buhari’s evolution - In Touch, The Nation newspaper, 15/12/2014 When General Muhammadu Buhari emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard-bearer, my mind did not ponder the future. I did not contemplate President Goodluck Jonathan, his opponent. Neither did I mull over permutations of his running mate, and the fiery battle in the offing. I zoomed back into important memories, but not in a sequential order. The first was a story I read about him during those years of long fuel queues in the 1990s. Ironically we are experiencing that now in Lagos again. The Buhari story took place in a Kaduna fuel station. The line, huddled bumper to bumper in a serpentine and interminable sweep, kept the commuters hopeful. Word passed from car to car, commuter to commuter, that a certain dignitary was at the tail end, waiting his turn. This man did not send somebody, like other big men, to sweat it in the oven of the afternoon wait. Who was he? A stir of curiosity followed a consensus of sympathy. It was Buh ...
Meet Buhari’s running mate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Wednesday, emerged the running mate to the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Here is a profile of the former Lagos State Attorney General and a Snr. Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG). Yemi Osinbajo, 55, is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Senior Partner in the Law firm of Simmons Cooper Partners. His tertiary education was at the University of Lagos and the London School of Economics where he obtained the LLB and LLM degrees respectively. He was appointed the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in 1999 and reappointed for a second term in 2003. During the period of his public service, he commenced the Lagos State justice reform project. A prominent feature of that project was the establishment of the Directorate for Citizens’ Rights (DCR) which provides free legal services and legal representation to indigent citizens of the state. This initiative gave ...

Awolowo on Buhari after his arrest: "During the period of my house arrest ordered by Major General Buhari when he ousted Shagari's administration, I had a restriction within my room for 24 hours a day, and for somebody who has tried to give others liberty all their adult life, that was absolutely intolerable" — Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1984) But today, same is a progressive and now head an entire region that gained extensively from same liberty fought by this Sage but as my SW friend forget that thing he dead and Buhari is our man now and forgiven on behalf of all by Asiwaju Tinubu the "modern" Nigerian democrat. Wonder shall never end trying to rent Aso Rock for 4 years.
Please TAKE NOTE! IBB registered Nigeria in OIC - Organization of Islamic Countries, not Buhari. Pls stop talking of Buhari Islamizing Nigeria. Even a a smart five year old, knows that's not even possible for any man alive to accomplish. Or are u considering urself a deaf, dumb or cripple that will not stand up and fight if that should happen? Hypocrites Plenty for Naija Shaa oo! When Obafemi Awolowo contested for Nigeria's Presidency in 1979, he was 70 years old, Nnamdi Azikwe contested for Presidency in that same year too, he was 75 years old; In 2003, Odumegwu Ojukwu stood up for Presidency of Nigeria, he was 70 years old no major uproar over age back then, in 2007 Ojukwu was 74 years old when he contested again for the same presidency, our people did not make so much noise about his age back then too; but now Muhammadu Buhari is contesting the Presidency at 72 and suddenly our people bring up the issue of Age, May Tribalism never ruin us in this country. Unless and until we allow objectivity to drive ...
GUYS HEAR THIS: Why power must return to the North in 2015 Yusuf Jubril PoliticsDecember 2014 This is the last month of 2014 and in just about a month and three weeks from now, the country would be holding a general election of unprecedented significance given that since 1999, except for the brief period of our late President Yar’Adua, the Presidency has been in the south. For the North, no other election in the history of Nigeria is capable of making or marring the political influence and position of the people of the Northern Region of Nigeria as the 2015 presidential election, especially now that Goodluck Jonathan is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). For the majority of Northerners who are by far more politically conscious of the two broad regions that make up Nigeria, it would have been unnecessary to remind our people. However, we have in recent times been witnessing a dangerous trend, a divide and rule tactics by the current government aimed at weakening the determination of the ...

Meet Buhari’s running mate who is married to Awolowo’s granddaugher He is so relatively new to the public eye that we don’t even know his correct surname. We know him as Yemi, quite all right. But is it Yemi Osibajo? Perhaps Osinbajo? Or even Osinbanjo? His name has been misspelt by the media for the past 15 years and there is no indication that he has ever tried to correct it. There you have the vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC): self-effacing and relatively new to the political fray. Indeed, there are not many pictures to choose from when you google his name! To his credit, though, all searches for “Osibajo” and “Osinbajo” lead to him. Some consolation there. The Punch has been alternating between Osibajo and Osinbajo. THISDAY, PMNews, TheCable and Premium Times seem fascinated with Osibajo. Ynaija wrote Osinbajo in one headline and Osibajo towards the end of the story. The Nation, which should know him very well, is sure it is Osinbajo. To know more about ...
Finally its Buhari and Osinbajo. Congrats to them though. The most incorruptible ones are finally here. Buhari doesn't own a house abroad,he doesn't own a foreign bank account,he doesn't own a share in any company,he lives on his military pension and even had to get a loan to buy his presidential nomination form. But ironically,he is driven in a large convoy of armoured SUVs which don't come cheap. Ok,his friends bought those cars for him but couldn't buy his nomination form. He is very detribalized and incorruptible though he presided over a very tribalised, nepotic and corrupt PTF where 75% of the projects and appointments were concentrated in the north while his cook and driver are igbos. Most of the fulani guys in katsina state he empowered in PTF bankrolled the election of umaru yar'adua as katsina state governor in 1999. Even obasanjo of all people had to disband PTF in 1999 cos it stank. Ok,let's forgive him because he pleaded ignorant of all that happened under him at PTF when he was confronted wit ...

22 REASONS WHY BUHARI CAN NEVER RULE NIGERIA PLEASE, NIGERIANS READ CAREFULLY, IT IS IMPORTANT 1. He is an oligarch who does not believe in equality before the law. The way he jailed Lateef Jakande, Jim Nwobodo, Ambrose Ali, Pa Adekunle Ajasin, Chief Ayo Ojewumi on cases that had no foundation and allowed Awwal Ibrahim, the then Niger State governor, who was arrested in Heathrow Airport in London with 14 million pounds sterling and several millions of Niara and dollars to be under house arrest is my evidence. He also allowed Shehu Kangiwa, Sokoto State Governor who conducted and supervised the famous Bakolori Massacre of poor peasant farmers whose land were appropriated without compesation to remain under house arrest. 1(a) Ayo Ojewumi became blind as a result of his imprisonment over false charges and died shortly after. 1 (b) Prof. Ambrose Alli also became blind as a result of this false imprisonment. When he died, he had only one undeveloped plot of land to his name. 1© Pa Adekule Ajasin was never the ...

WHY PROF YEMI OSIBAJO, SAN's VP CHOICE IS A STRONG PUNCH. - A PERSONAL VIEW. Osibajo is one of the deepest members of the private investors club as well as board room tzars in Nigeria. Ask for the letterheads and owners books of the most influential and most powerful companies in the Lagos axis of Nigeria's economy and Osibajo takes a prime space. As attorney general in Lagos State under Gov. Bola Ahmed Tinubu 1999 - 2007, he opened Lagos trade and industrial economy, more than anyone before and after him, to the private sector through favorable legal frameworks and incentives for aggressive investments and portfolios expansion. E.g Enthronement of legal imperative for "corporate governance" i.e absolute authority of Boards of Directors, as insurance against corporate failures as a result of mismanagement of corporate vision. Osibajo, Prof. of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN remains one of the best, most respected and most sought after knowledge based public/ motivational speakers in Nigeria's pri ...

Buhari... Clueless, Corrupt and Ruthless At age 20, Buhari joined the armed forces in 1962. His highest formal education before then was an elementary school leaving certificate in Arabic study. He then enrolled at the Nigerian Military Training College, Kaduna for a three-month preparation course as a cadet. He received additional seven months at Mons Officer Cadet School, Aldershot, UK, as a young trainee cadet. At age 21, Buhari, an ordinary cadet trainee, with no formal education than elementary school leaving certificate and just under one year in the Nigerian Army, with no military training than a trainee cadet, was commissioned Second Lieutenant, and promoted to Platoon Commander 2nd Infantry Brigade, Abeokuta in 1963. One factor contributed to Mr Buhari rapid commission and promotion in 1963. Violence had broken out in Yorubaland over the imprisonment of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and 21 other Yoruba citizens. They were all sentenced to an average of 10 years imprisonment by the Gambari/Ibo coalition g ...
"I admire Buhari for his perseverance and staying power as a President-want-to-be. He reminds me of Obafemi Awolowo and his conviction that he wants to do for Nigeria what he has done for himself and for the old Western Region. Buhari reminds me of a Ronald Reagan who ran so many times but lost but he never gave up, and he turned out to be one of the greatest Presidents in American history by some of what he did. He was a democrat at one point in his life before becoming a conservative. Buhari was a military man who seems to have fully embraced the tenets of Democracy and must have learned a lot from his experience as a military dictator just like Murtala Mohammed, Obasanjo, and Ibrahim Babangida. Nigeria needs a man like that for this moment in Nigeria history. "Goodluck Jonathan is another Dukakis in military uniform. Buhari cannot be intimidated by the Nigerian Military. OBASANJO AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF DESTRUCTION INSTEAD OF NATION BUILDING : Great leaders write on issues and ideas that move nations forward and advance the course of human development. Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe of Nigeria, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Lee Kwan Yu wrote of Singapore, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Ghandi of India, Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama of the United States, Winston Churchill and Tony Blair of the United Kingdom, etc, have all penned great works that have become inseparable companions of scholars, political leaders, policy makers, successful businessmen, senior government administrstors, military strategists and historians around the world. Our own supposed leader, Gen (rtd) Olusegun Obasanjo, at a critical time in our nation's history, when we are confronted by an unstable political system, a yet-to-be-defined economy and serious security issues that threaten our collective existence, has found the time to only write about mundane issues as who pleaded to marry his daughter, and how ...

The 20 reasons why You Should Not Vote For Buhari. 1. He convinced all the northern political leaders against allowing the National Identity Card program because according to him, this would unravel the myth of a Northern population majority 2. He is an Islamic fundamentalist, the Bin Laden of Nigeria, who told his northern followers never to vote for anyone who was not a muslim. 3. He is a coup plotter. 4. He has never been able to account to Nigerians what he did with the 20 billion Naira of the Petroleum Trust Fund of which he was the chairman under Sani Abacha. 4(a) He has not been able to point to any project that he prosecuted outside the Northern Nigeria with the so-called trust fund. 5. Buhari, as part of his tribalistic practices placed President Shagari under house arrest inside a palatial mansion in Ikoyi while he locked up Shagari's Vice, Alex Ekwueme in Kirikiri Prison. Shagari is Hausa/Fulani like him while Alex Ekwueme is an Igboman. 6. Ikemba Emeka Ojukwu, another Igboman who returned from ...

When Will Cultism End In Nigerian Tertiary Institutions? How I wish the Federal and State Governments of Nigeria can do something about the phenomenon of Cultism in our Tertiary institutions. It is very painful that individuals struggle to get admission into Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education only to be continually raped by Cultists, continually robbed, continually beaten or forced to join Cultism. It is a big shame that I am always afraid when someone especially a lady close to me get admission into most higher institutions here in Nigeria. My mind keep hurting because I fear they may be unlucky to have these various factions of Cult groups rape them repeatedly or force them to cook for them for free or rob them or do all these and many more against these ladies. In the 21st century, Cultism is still a very big problem in Nigeria and the annoying part of it all is that the Government is not willing to do anything to combat Cultism. It seems that the Government benefit from the nefarious ...

Flashback 1959. It was the Dec 12 1959 parliamentary elections that brought in Balewa's government, under the 1959 parliamentary type Constitution! First, our system of Government then was the Parliamentary System of Government. We did not have a President at first, we had a Governor General. Under such, the Governor General, was purely a titular ceremonial head, not unlike the Role of the Queen of England, and never an Executive President! Same as in Canada, and elsewhere. The title of Governor General, was only changed to 'President' in 1963, when Nigeria became a Republic under the same 1959 constitution. So, there's nothing to a President and a Prime Minister having Executive issues at all! Executive powers belonged to the Prime Minister. Balewa's party the Northern People's Congress had won only 134 seats out of the 314 seats available, with 1,922,179 votes repenting 25.2% of total votes ! Awolowo's Action Group, got 73 seats, with 1,992,364 votes, representing 26.1%, while Zik's NCNC, got 81 seats . ...
Life is so funny that it gives bsck what u put in it ! U want to be like Nelson Mandela, u want to be like Martins Luther the first, u want to be Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo u want to be like Governor Fashola of Lagos ! When would somebody wants to be like u ? Life and time move faster than what u can wait for. If u cannot move ahead of them, move with them. Refused to be left behind. Leaders are made by two things; what u know and what u can do to keep ur head up and straight for ur generation and generations behind. If u want to join the group of LEGENDS u must be able to do it right when u have breath in u so when u live, people will know that u live and when u die, people will still believe that u lived ! Watch what u do today and chose right in life. Happy weekend to u all !
There are people who are not destined to rule, no matter how hard they try they will always fail. Obafemi Awolowo was one as an example, I pray General Buhari will not go down this lane.

WITH BUHARI I STAND! By Fola Ojo I am neither rippled by the mammoth crowd that attended his declaration today in Abuja, nor undulated by all the encomiums poured on him for his majestic walk and ways in the contraption called Nigeria. Mohammadu Buhari just moves my mind, soul and spirit by just who he is. He is a walking, living truth, a rock-solid sincerity, a matured mind, an experienced hand, and a true Nigerian. Buhari is a tower of integrity and decency, the tonic and analeptic a sick nation like Nigeria needs at this time. For these reasons and more, with Mohammadu Buhari, I stand! I have always had a problem with his age. I had always thought that his agility and mental sharpness may have been compromised until I saw and heard what I saw and heard today. I heard words from the depository of a quick-witted sage and sharp mind. He didn’t tell us he had no shoes, but reminded us how he had put his boots on the ground fighting for the unity of Nigeria in a bitter civil war as a young soldier. He di ...
ONLY BUHARI CAN SAVE NIGERIA A STATEMENT BY THE 4TH FORCE BY SENATOR PATRICK O. ANI The general elections of 2015 have been described as those that would mark a watershed in the political history of Nigeria. Nothing can be nearer the truth. To be sure, the unprecedented attention that the elections will attract has little to do with the state elections as they affect the governorship and state houses of assembly. Nor has it anything to do with the national elections as they affect the Senate and the House of Representatives. The attraction that the next year’s poll has to do with the presidential election that has been slated for St. Valentine’s Day-February 14. That is the particular election that is expected to be epoch, if all goes well. It is the election that will determine the direction that the country would go-whether or not it would chart a new course or continue on the same path that has it has been since the return of democratic rule in 1999. Having walked for 16 solid years (by 2015) on on ...

Also tell Baba Fela that Terry G is the new afro beat king. Tell Muritala Mohammed that we still use kerosene to cook and candles to see. Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso is not like the typical politician. He is a student of Aminu Kano and Chief Obafemi Awolowo! He does not believe that getting an education in the best Universities in the world is the exclusive preserve of the rich. That is why any graduate from Kano state who graduates with a first class or a 2nd class upper is automatically qualified for government scholarship for post-graduate studies. This is done 100% on merit, and not based on connections! Because of this, you don't have to be from a wealthy family background to enjoy the best things of life. This is in line with the Aminu Kano and Chief Obafemi Awolowo philosophy of a people-centered governance!!
Gov. Kayode Fayemi: My Ekiti Election Story His defeat at the June 21, 2014 Ekiti governorship election has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political firmament. Many have tried to explain the outcome but opinions may remain undivided as to why a governor widely acknowledged to have performed well went down with such a heavy defeat. Now for the first time since the polls, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, tells his own side of the story. He spoke with Dapo Thomas. BY DAPO THOMAS JUL 21, 2014 492 55 145 Governor Kayode Fayemi The outcome of the June 21 election in Ekiti shocked the entire nation and even the international community. To what extent were you disturbed by the result? Very disturbed indeed and worried for the future of elections in our country. Nobody goes into an election to lose especially when you have put a lot into it. When you have worked hard and earned the trust of the people, you should have every reason to feel confident you are going to be rewarded for the hard work and pe ...
Written by Asiwaju Sanjo Olurebi Nigerians are very funny people, they resort to championing issues they know next to nothing about, we, Nigerian are the biggest analyst in the entire world. I was in Lagos some years back and i was at a gathering, some Nigerians, supposedly, educated ones are discussing world football and specifically, Manchester football club are Manchester city football clubs were mentioned and are being discussed. Some of these Nigerians though, have not travel out of the shores of Nigeria, not to talk of Africa were arguing albeit wrongly, on the location and statistics of the two world class clubs. I was dumbed to see that Nigerians who have not travelled out of Lagos know so much 'wrongly' about clubs located in Manchester where I live, work, and raised my family. The same attitude of Nigerian can be seen in the political discuss as people who know next to nothing will argue and convinced others on an issues that are fabricated. INDEPENDENCE DAY CULMINATING POST "The whole place was alien to our ideas and we found the members of the other regions might well belong to another world as far as we were concerned" (Ahmadu Bello, 1949) He made this statement on the day of his first visit to Lagos. "This new nation called Nigeria will be made an extension of our great grand father Uthman Dan Fodio. We will ruthlessly prevent power from changing hands. We will use the minority in the north as willing tools and the majority in the south as conquered territories. We would deprive them of having their future in their hands (Ahmadu Bello, 12th October, 1960). "I am first a Yoruba, then a Nigerian" (Obafemi Awolowo). "Just this same way there are welsh, french, dutch, scottish etc so there are igbo, yoruba, hausa. Nigeria can never be a nation but a mere geographical expression. FASHOLA ADVOCATES NEED FOR CITIZENS TO ASSERT RIGHT TO VOTE OUT NON-PERFORMING GOVERNMENTS …As Governor commends outcome of State Government’s investment in education Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN on Thursday attended the 15th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture series with the theme, “The Power of Your Vote: A catalyst for A Stable and United Nigeria” stating that citizens must have the courage to change what does not work for them. The Governor who spoke at the Lecture and Awards Ceremony for the Mike Okonkwo Educational and Youth Initiative Essay Competition (MOEYI) which took place at the Shell Hall of the MUSON Centre, Onikan said it is no longer democratic when the people have allowed a bad government to serve out its full terms before saying it should be changed. He charged that just as the voting public must be ready to change a bad government; it must also work vigorously to keep a good one in government, adding that that is where the choice is inherent and embedded in a democra ...

LEADERSHIP: D meaning of d power of Vision. That's what vision is all abt. D most important thing to knw is that, things can be done. If u want things to b done, d only thing is to find d person that wants to do it. We have them b4 in d person of Sardauna Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Gen Murtala Mohammed, Gen Buhari & Idiagbon. etc. Visionary leaders. Maitama Sule writes Jonathan, warns of disastrous consequences A former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Alhaji Maitama Sule, on Monday called on Nigerians to put the nation’s interest above their personal interest. The ex-diplomat added that he had written a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and the governors, warning of what he called disastrous consequences if the prevailing trend in the country was not arrested. Sule made the call when the Arewa Youth Development Foundation paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Kano. The elder statesman said, “That was what our founding fathers like Zik, Obafemi Awolowo, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sardauna, Aminu Kano and Tarka did. “These leaders belonged to different political parties, tribes and religion, but they lived and worked together because the unity of the country was their main interest. “About two weeks ago, I wrote to the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and his colleagues. Why We Should Split Nigeria Now. Sardauna of Sokoto and Obafemi Awolowo used to be good friends. They visited each other a lot and Sardauna was very keen to implement Awolowo’s policies only if he told him before hand. Once NPC won the December 1951 Northern regional elections, it was AG which had won the Western Region’s elections two months earlier that it congratulated and extended alliance to at the Central House slated to open in February 1952. The North was never interested in partnering with Zik, NCNC, or the Igbos. While Zik and the Eastern region were embroiled over the Prof Eyo Ita and the six sit-tight ministers, Awolowo and Sardauna continued to strengthen their alliance. The first branch of AG outside the Western Region was formed in Kano on 4th October 1952. Awolowo assured the jittery Northern rulers that the move was not a threat and he went on to deliver several lectures on government by federation in which he did not criticise Northern leadership at all. We are also a nation without heroes. New heroes, that is. Aminu Kano, Bala Usman, and Ayodele Awojobi are all gone. M.C.K. Ajuluchukwu, Obafemi Awolowo, and Tai Solarin all left us a while back In democratic and non-democratic settings, citizens relate to their countries in different ways. In democracies, for instance, people tend to invest more goodwill and other tangible and intangible resources in the affairs of their country. In general, they love their country more than any other country in the world. And it shows! They join formal and informal organisations whose main duty is to safeguard the nation’s integrity. They also take it upon themselves to positively project their nation’s image; and help extend its sovereignty and lifespan. Simply put, they have a stake in the survival and the continued existence of their country – e . ...
May the heaven be the last abode of Late sir Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and the great Abdallah who with their fruithfull effort made Nigeria a history. Though, they departed this stupid, useless and sinful world with zero savings in the banks but their names and legacy will forever remained untainted!
Continuation Of Bode Thomas History: Olabode Akanni Thomas was extremely capable and extremely controversial. He had great accomplishments under his belt before he was 30 years old. Most of the people he ‘cohorted’ with, whether in the course of professional, social, political or traditional engagements were either years older than him or years behind him in achievements. We can view the not so endearing characterization of him as arrogant or haughty from this perspective, even if not excusable. From a privileged mercantile background, he breezed through CMS Grammar School in Lagos and went on to the UK become a lawyer at the age of 23 which was astounding in those days. Bode Thomas was enrolled at the Nigerian Bar in 1942. That was 4 years before Obafemi Awolowo (1946) and 8 years before Ladoke Akintola (1950). He was reputed to be strong-willed and goal-focused, quickly cutting through legal bunkum to espouse essence. Bode Thomas found cerebral professional soul-mates in Rotimi Williams (enrolled 1 ...
It’s miscellaneous time again! As almost always, two matters are jostling for attention as they demand equal recognition. Here we go… 1.Government, they say, is a continuum. No, the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has appeared to differ in his campaign for re-election which now enjoys prominent footage on major television stations. “Support and vote for me so that I can finish what I started,” Fayemi told his supporters in the footage. Fayemi apparently doesn’t reckon that iconic figures like Martin Luther King Jnr, Mahatma Ghandi and even his hero, Obafemi Awolowo, became famous for laying the foundation while their successors built on it. Fayemi would deviate by laying his foundation and building the house, thereby turning the continuum factor upside down! 2. Days have gone by since the disgraced former Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi became the Emir of Kano. Yet, not a congratulatory message has been dispatched to Sanusi from the Presidency; a very dangerous precedent in all r ...
HOW GULLIBLE ARE SOME NIGERIANS? This country has really lost real patriots who believe in a genuine cause and are ready to die for it. Is amazing that no media house, social media activists, public analysts, commentators, reporters, etc dare mention the over 200 Chibok girls suffering pains and humiliation in the hands of terrorists at Sambisa forest in Borno state. So all of a sudden, the whole attention has been shifted to an unimportant activities like turbaning of an emir? What a generation of gullible Nigerians? If Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, Sarduana of Sokoto, Tafawa Balewa, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Ernest Okoli, Eyo Ita and other distinguish patriots were reasoning the same way we do today, Nigeria wouldn't have gotten independence. Really, I am amaze. May the soul of those great patriots rest in peace. May we all wake up from our slumber and face the real issues of life for the progress of our country Nigeria.
WHO DO WE DESERVE IN KWARA STATE? leader or SERVANT In order to become the master, the politician poses as the servant (Charles de Gaulle). If we love our state, we should also love our statemen. Kwara state is blessed with rich people, rich in culture and rich in resources but we have bad people as leaders. Obafemi Awolowo said ( lecture at the university of lagos, 1968); the touchstone of what is good, be it though, words, or action is LOVE. We are to love our neighbours as ourselve. That's the law and the prophet. Anything therefore--any thought or word or action which falls short of love is EVIL and holds within itself the germs of its own eventual and inevitable destruction. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thought events and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinarily result. Any man who has to take up the service of the govt must ask himself two questions; do I love my people in order to serve them? Am I humble and do I listen to everybody to diverse opinions in ...

NIGERIA BEING ONE COUNTRY - A sheer lie & self deceit of yesteryears: the need for Yoruba Republic, Part2. ... By Kehinde Balogun "Chief Awolowo had one singular fault: it was to think pan-Nigeria; he believed that the poor of the North and the poor of the South shared a common misery and common oppressors. (While) He believed in excellence, he believed in hard work and he believed in the rule of law. The oppressors of the North did not and they still do not. They have continued to capture the federal judiciary and the army (as well as the electoral commissions)" The above caption was said precisely 20 years ago, even when there was nothing called bokoharam... Like I had said in the previous article, more specifically, a few parameters shall herewith be diagnosed to marshall our core understanding in the mirror of reality beyond the facade of ludicrous standing of the day. History revealed to me that a creation of a being of Obafemi Awolowo was second to non on the African continent and Nigeria by precisi ...

"NIGERIA GLORIOSUS DAWN" Over thirty-five ago, Chief Obafemi Awolowo began his political career. It is an eventful career in which his reputation has risen with each successive decade. He returned from Britian after completing his legal studies to found Action Group in 1951. He become the leader of the A.G, the Party described by scholars of Nigeria political as the most well-organized and disciplined. The party controlled the legislature of the Western Region, and Chief Awolowo became the leader of Government business and subsequently the first premier of the region. Under his leadership, from 1951-1959, the west became the most progressive region in the federation of Nigeria. As member of the Nigerian Youth Movement, he Oganized the Ibadan branch of the association and distiriguished himself as a man of uncompromising principles. Indeed, it was the political laboratory of Nigeria, while new ideals emerged and were tested before their eventual adoption by the remaining regions and the Federal Government ...
A former Security Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government, Chief Richard Kpodoh weekend said the Boko Haram campaign of terror in some parts of the Northern states is targeted at stopping President Goodluck Jonathan from declaring his intention to run for second term in 2015. According to Kpodoh, though the decision to declare or not to declare to run in the 2015 Presidential election lies with President Goodluck Jonathan, the dangerous tactics of using insecurity as a tool of blackmail against the rising profile of President Goodluck Jonathan will not hold waters as he will be forced by the peace loving populace to run for second term in office. Chief Kpodoh, who served under Goodluck Jonathan administration in Bayelsa State as Senior Special Assistant on Strategy and Policy Monitoring, in a statement in Yenaoa urged President Goodluck Jonathan to shun the dangerous antics of opposition politicians through the sponsored killings by the Boko Haram and declare for re-election. He said:”There is no bette ...

LETS BEGIN TO ACT THE DREAM-AJULO NIGERIA OF MY DREAM: Let’s Begin To Act The Dream By Olukayode Ajulo Greetings I feel greatly elated for the opportunity given me to address this very distinguished audience. I must confess that addressing a gathering of very distinguished Nigerians and non-Nigerians like this is not an easy task at all. But my consolation and encouragement is in the fact that it is a speech about Nigeria, a talk about the Nigeria we are all part of, the country of my passion. With this, I am confident it is all about us all; about what course we can chat for our future, our dear nation – Nigeria. Nigeria is a blessed country. We all understand to a large extent her history, her endowment, her glory, her ups and downs, but I beg to remind you a bit of it before proceeding. It gained her independence in 1960 and attained republican status in 1963. It is a heterogeneous country with diversity of cultures and tribes of about 250 ethnic nationalities with the Yoruba, Igbo and the Hausa-Fu ...
Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth! "I say unto you, that there will be no genuine peace in this country, unless, in the main, the war against grinding poverty, hunger, preventable diseases, squalo r,and ignorance among the masses of our people,is waged throughout the land, with the same united purpose, patriot ism,and grim determination as we had against secession. It is perhaps, not generally realized that,in all history, the root causes of rebellion and violent discontent are evils which I have enumerated.A s far as I can discern, the aggressors against peace and stability in Nigeria are abject poverty, hunger and diseases, squalo r,and ignorance. They are more devastating in their ravages, more insidious, more thorough, and more resistant in their operations than any armed rebellion. They are the enemies which must be crushed, and crushed totally." - Obafemi Awolowo (Public Lecture,May 1970 in Ibadan)
TRUE FEDERALISM: THE ONLY WAY FORWARD TO A FLAWED AND SKEWED ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP. Those who care to hear the truth by the true leaders of the past, read the quotes from three shapers of the Nigerian State: 1. Tafawa Balewa in 1948 said “..Since 1914 the British Government has been trying to make Nigeria into one country, but the Nigerian people themselves are historically different in their backgrounds, in their religious beliefs and cudtoms and do not show themselves any signs of willingness to unite….Nigerian unity is only a British invention”. Are we not at the same point 64 years since Balewa voice the truth about Nigeria? 2. Obafemi Awolowo said in 1947 that “…Nigeria is not a nation. It is a mere geographical expression. There are no ‘Nigerians’ in the same sense as there are ‘English’, ‘Welsh’, or ‘French’. The word ‘Nigerian’ is a distinctive appellation to distinguish those who live within the boundaries of Nigeria and those who do not”. Is not true of today’s N ...
It is so sad that there is constant attack on the Obafemi Awolowo University,i could remember there is a time in 2011 when the acceptance Fee was increased to 20 thousand then,we went to bank to stop the freshers from paying, but their response was that they have been in the house for so long, therefore the would pay the fee,now The lesson is that a little injustice accepted breed bigger problem.NOW weak SUG is being installed and with that the Management launch the attack to increase the school Fees..
I AM TIRED OF THIS COUNTRY What a country we are, if we manage and struggle to get what belongs to us as right "EDUCATION" and government are seriously depriving us from getting it. Nigerian Government as not been considering the welfarism of Students' but painstakingly skyrocket the tuition fees and neglect the subventions into the Educational System. The set of Government Office holders' today are those who benefit from the free education Programmes introduce by Late (chief) Obafemi AWOLOWO but now believing in tuition fees and neglecting the subventions. How many of in Nigeria today can afford private or foreign education as at 70's including their family members? If school fees can be skyrocketed by 300% and above which we're saying NO, while some students' are dropping out of school and some are managing to pay with poor students' welfare package. Based on this struggle, a commercial vehicle kill a student of AAUA Micro-Biology 200 level today in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State with a bike man while police ...
LATE CHIEF Bode Thomas: (61 Years after) He was a nationalist who fought along with other compatriots for independence. But, Chief OlaBode Thomas died seven years before the realisation of that dream. He was barely 34; young, agile and promising. His ideas survived him, serving as beacons of hope for a distraught nation. Deputy Political Editor EMMANUEL OLADESU revisits the life of a political icon who passed on without realising his full leadership potential. He came, stayed briefly and went back to his maker at the age of 34 years. But, at that prime age, OlaBode Thomas, frontline lawyer, nationalist politician and former Federal Transport Minister, had accomplished what men who lived for a century could not achieve in an entire life time. Fifty-five years after the demise of the Balogun of Oyo, his name continues to ring a bell. The magnetism has endured. The pain of the irreparable loss lingered. It was a black day in the Western Region. Thomas was a colourful political megastar. His speeches in the p ...

FACT TO KNOW ABOUT Bishop Oyedepo and his Wife. It will amaze you to know Bishop David Oyedepo met his wife just as a man will meet a woman. She met him at a Motor Park… She was a University student of Obafemi Awolowo University while he was only a Polytechnic student in Kwara State Poly(Remember the discrimination) – she could have snubbed him – but she responded. His friends complained that he was carrying Christianity too zealously as if he was the only Christian – as a result she became zealous too. He took her to church in 1976 and made her sign an agreement (SAILING UNDER SEALED ORDERS) to marry and follow him whether he becomes blind, lame or handicapped.. and she signed, some ladies would find that difficult to do now. Just before he married her, he told her God had sent him to LIBERATE THE WORLD (while he was still hopping between jobs) and went on to resign his job; his elder brother lambasted him, she stuck to him. He told her God had shown him the key to prosperity – she believed. He ...
I am in sombre mood! In May 1966 Northern Nigerians unleashed first wave of chilling gruesome cold blooded murder on unarmed innocent "Eastern Nigerians" mainly my Igbo stock - wasting mainly women, pregnant and those giving sulk to their babies. Pregnant women were slaughtered like cattle and their unborn children reaped out from their wombs as they bled to death! Infants were clubbed to death and our men executed. House to house search were conducted and all places combed by Northern Nigerians hate filled hearts for Igbo nationalities. Igbo people who managed to make it to train stations were were subsequently rounded up at Lokoja, Jebba and Markurdi terminals and executed or thrown into the rivers with their children. As my people were being wasted in the carnage ARABA call swell and resonated in the North. Ironsi government instead of taking measures to protect his people, set out to appease same group bent on removing him and annihilating his own stock. On 29th July 1966, Danjuma with his Northern ar ...

Two-term gov possible in Oyo - Ajimobi The governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has denounced those who canvass that Ibadan people do not serve a governor twice, stating that such people were poor students of history. He made this known on Thursday at the Governor’s Office while swearing-in the 33 Caretaker Chairmen of the state. According to the governor, such people should cross-check their history books and records to discover that the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief S. L. Akintola, Premiers of the Western Region, ruled the West from Ibadan and were given mandates to rule twice by the people. “Those who say they don’t do second term in Oyo State should cross-check the records. Chiefs Obafemi Awolowo and Samuel Ladoke Akintola did it twice. Those who say Ibadan people don’t serve anyone twice may not be wrong however but are wrong in the context. What they may be referring to is Ibadan and we are not serving Ibadan people alone but the whole of Oyo State. Perhaps, they are r ...
A President in mortal danger… But does he know it? (2) . As the Igbo say, it's only a tree that can be told it will be cut down and it will still stay put waiting to be cut down! But President Jonathan is no tree. So why is he behaving like one? Why is this man who has been a top civil servant, a University teacher, a deputy governor, a Governor, a Vice president, an Ag. President and President, Commander in Chief of Nigeria's Armed Forces allowing himself to be consigned to the rubbish bin of history? The question millions of Nigerians are asking all over Nigeria is, why is Jonathan doing this to himself? Why? Why? Why? I thought I knew the reason. When Jonathan was elected in 2011, I had a strong foreboding that this would happen. I was prescient in analyzing the socio-political dynamics of power struggle which would ensue. I wanted to sit down and carefully analyse the situation with anyone close to the President. But no one was available. All the parties were in celebration mood. The excitement was ...
THE ORIGIN OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT On Saturday October 18, 1975, the then Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed told the opening session of the 50 man constitution drafting committee at the institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island, Lagos that "Supreme Military Council has carefully discussed and agreed on an executive Presidential system of Government", He said, among other things on that day, that his council "has agreed on an executive Presidential system of Government in which the President and Vice-President are elected, with clearly defined powers and are accountable to the people. We feel that there should be legal provisions to ensure that they are brought into office in such a manner so as to reflect the Federal character of the country". I was present at the event. Of course, when the Supreme Military council has "decided" at that time, who could undecide. That was the origin of our adopting the Presidential System of Government which has so far been operated by fo ...

Is this true? We have studied elected presidents from the time of the second republic with Shehu Shagari, and the military era with Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, Buhari and the elected Olusegun Obasanjo and discovered that the style of administration of Goodluck Jonathan in spite of provocation and temptation, has remained calm, cool and collected.” “Under past Presidents, the opposition claim they were bold and decisive could not be proved. Many paid oppositions and genuine critics have lambasted, without facts, some policies of the Jonathan administration and nothing violent and deadly happened to them. The so called bold civilian administrations of Obasanjo and the military era of Buhari and others would have boldly dealt with opposition. “Some of us embarked on criticism against Jonathan administration and nothing evil happened to us.The kind of utterances against Jonathan has never been accommodated by any administration in this country. It is not weakness but an administration style th ...

OKOWA'S CRITICS ARE HIS GREATEST BENEFICIARIES –DAN OFILI-IKA WEEKLY A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwart in Ika North East local government area of Delta State, Mr. Dan Ofili has during the week in an interview at Boji-Boji, Owa commended the Senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his outstanding performance as a lawmaker. Mr. Ofili said that he is not surprised at Okowa's performance as a senator as he (Okowa) has since he joined politics has impacted positively and greatly on many lives, pointing out that Okowa's critics are mostly people who have benefitted greatly from his good representation in government. He opined that instead of criticizing a man who has used the opportunities he has in government to better the lives of his people and Ika Nation in general, he should be encouraged so as to spur him to do more. “Okowa should be shown gratitude for the help he is rendering to Ika people and Ika nation too. In as much as I agree with Mr Fani Kayode that Nigeria is fast tracking into becoming a failed state, and with Prof Soyinka, that if the size of Nigeria were like the Federal Capital Territory, President Jonathan would have better managed the hydra headed menace of the Boko Haram insurgency better. Nigeria may be too large for his myopic eyes to cover. However, though I agree with Mr Fani Kayode on the state of Nigeria, I will rather follow the thinking of Soyinka, that the problem is with how the country is been admnistered rather than blaming it on those who think they are "born to rule". Yes! I disagree with Mr Fani Kayode because though we now have a President who may have not been "born to rule", but he has at his disposal the same paraphernalia of office to contribute a difference to the governance of our people as any "born to rule". The group of rascals tagged Boko Haram have been in existence before this present administration. The war that we now face, a war without the rules of engagement, beca ...

A True Love Story! 'We met in one of the classrooms in Obafemi Awolowo University' - Ife and Demilade
THE STATE OF THE UNION To understanding the series of events that followed after the ascendancy of the Falase administration, it is important to understand the psychology of Professor Falase. Professor Falase is one of those ultra- conservative and reactionary professors who believes that students in the university should be in perpetual subservience to the university authorities without an independent voice whatever, irrespective of the backwardness of the university administration. Professor Falase is devoid of any idea of the undergraduate as a rational being with independent voice or opinion but rather a docile robot who should know-tow to the university authorities. It was on this background that Prof. Adewole took over as the Vice-Chancellor of the University from Prof. Bamiro. At this point in time we need not to bore ourselves with unnecessary rhetoric about the inaction of the management which is now beyond the pale as far as Uites are concerned. I will try as much as possible to be more laconic ...

For 200 years (1760-1960), Britain enslaved and colonized Yorubaland. Apart from the railway system, built only to siphon off Yoruba wealth and resources from the hinterland to the seaports in Lagos, for shipment to Liverpool, for the development of England, the British colonial thugs build nothing else. During a brief period of our modern history of self-rule (1954-1959) before a full fledged independence in 1960, under the exceptional leadership of our topmost statesman - Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who served the Yoruba people with the very best government in the whole of Africa. Under their leadership, the Yoruba Western Region of Nigeria became the pace-setter in virtually all aspects of modern development. As examples, Yorubaland developed programmes that empowered Yoruba people to become some of the most productive in Africa. The Region became "First in Africa." Some of the testimonies to this assertion are: 1. A revered judicial system. 2. The development of the first industrial estate in Africa. 3. P ...

Baptist Boys’ High School is a secondary school in Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria. It has a student body of 1100 students as of the 2011-12 academic year. The student population has shrunk almost by half from the peak of 2155 in 1998-1999 academic year, partly in response to a concern that the school’s teaching and learning facilities were inadequate to cope with uncontrolled rise in student numbers. BBHS is on its permanent site, Oke-Saje. *History Baptist Boys’ High School was founded by the American Southern Baptist Convention, whose Foreign Mission Board was set up in 1845 and started work in Abeokuta on August 5, 1850, with the arrival of the first missionary, "Reverend Thomas Jefferson Bowen". An important strategic objective of the American Southern Baptist mission to Nigeria was to empower the native population with the provision of social-educational amenities such as schools, hospitals, teacher training and theological colleges alongside the preaching of the gospel. Thus, schools ...
Prince Ogunlewe: The Head That can Wear The Crown and Best Serve The People by NewsAdmin on May 24, 2014 | No comments Posted under: Opinion, Politics “Where the word best comes in, the term better becomes a misnomer.” – Yoruba proverb -Alaba Yusuf One of British best known political philosophers and legal luminaries, Lord Acton, once etched an unforgettable wise-crack on the slate of life, which till today, affects and impacts on man’s social architecture and developmental engineering the world over. The sagacious sage and jurist, having deeply studied the rat race for political power, concluded thus: “For forms of government, let the fools contest; whatever is best administered is best governed.” How audacious but apt this statement? Though centuries away from 2015, the aforementioned assertion still holds steam across the globe today; and quite accurate, complete, relevant, concise, convincing, meaningful and unambiguous –particularly when scrutinising the current actors and spectators i ...

I wasn't taught history in class but was told that Nigeria was held captive in her own land . It took Great men like Enahoro, Tafawa Balewa , Nnamdi Azikiwe , Obafemi Awolowo to name but a few to pull some strings n free her from the British capitivity that will later be called colonialism . Nigeria was free but come to think of it how free are we when we don't trust the neighbor next door ?

ON OMISORE,IBIKUNLE AND THE STRUGGLE AHEAD: As the titanic battle between the students and the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University reach its climax it is imperative that the IBIKUNLE led student union not to rely heavily on the intervention of a certain governorship candidate whose level of gangsterism, machiavellian and mephistophelian deeds is unrivalled, though i appreciate his prompt intervention on the current paraphernalia. we must rememember that this battle is for future generation and not present generation alone? the present fight against astronomical fee increment can be likened to the battle fought by LUTHER KING decades ago which is still remembered till today? I commend the doggedness, oratorical dexterity and sagacity of the indefatigable, indomitable and irresistible comrades who sacrifice their time, energy, capital to support the current struggle. Chief Bola Ige, 70, the attorney-general of the federation, is a lion in the winter. There is hardly any public officer today whose career has traversed the entire spectrum of the country's attempts at legitimate government. At 31, in the First Republic, he was at the vortex of the Action Group, AG, crisis when the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was pitted against his deputy, Chief Ladoke Akintola. During the Second Republic, he was one of the five governors of Awolowo's Unity Party of Nigeria. Today, he is in the centre of power, still the fulcrum of controversy. It is as if his public career is calibrated along the contour of modern Nigerian history. He is a hero of many battles, most recently the historic struggle against military rule, and he has survived them all. He rides the storm with tested skill and panache and like his mentor, Awolowo, nobody in the republic can be indifferent to Bola Ige, the Cicero of Esa-Oke and grandmaster of Yoruba politics. Ige held strong views and beliefs and this has led h ...
"Today, Africa is a continent of COMPETING BEGGAR-NATIONs. We vie with one another for favours from our former colonial masters; and we deliberately fall over one another to invite neo- colonialists to come over to our different territories to preside over our economic fortunes ... Unless a beggar resolutely shakes off, and irrevocably turns his back on, his begging habit, he will forever remain a beggar. For, the more he begs, the more he develops the beggar characteristics of lack of initiative, courage, drive and self-reliance." - Obafemi Awolowo. Address to 4th OAU Summit in Kinshasa (1967): In Voice of Courage, 1981.
Every morning when I wake up, I usually feel this ... I do not know how to express it, but its surely a feeling that say to me "Where are we heading, which way forward Nigeria." In the 60s, 70s and 80s; at the age of 22 to 38, you are a role model and standing on your feet. What has happened to us as Nigerian Youths? My heart bleeds for my Nation Nigeria and the continent of Africa. Each time you hear names like Sarduana of Sokoto, Akintola, Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo, Murtala Mohammed, Chief Enahoro, Queen Amina of Zaria, Moremi, Enikpi of Igala land, Kaduna Uzogwu, Benjamin Adekunle, Babangida, Abacha, Buhari, Idiagbon, Shehu Musa Yar'adua (Snr/Jnr) and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe of blessed memories, you feel proud being a Nigerian. What is happening to us now? Youths taking to terrorists activities with impunity. How do we want our generation to be remembered? Let us all be sincere and true to this nation cos we owe it a responsibility to really make this Nation great. Lets once more go back to being PATRI ...
GEJ, THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF AND A DISLOYAL ARMED FORCES ... he was the Vice President to the ailing President Yar'adua. The events leading to the emergence of GEJ after the death of Yar'adua was a bit turbulent. Some cabals had emerged on the corridor of power and bent on preventing him from becoming the acting president. While the governance was deadlocked, the Save Nigeria Group protest was convened by the fiery Lagos Preacher, Pastor Tunde Bakare. On that fateful tuesday morning, we gathered at the Nigerian Airways playing ground, Ikeja adjacent to the Police College. The group was addressed by Prof. Sole Soyinka and some other leading pro democracy activists on the need to be steadfast and see the struggle as not that of Jonathan but our collective resolve to rescue Nigeria from the claws of the cabals holding the nation to ransom. Around 10.00 am the congregations moved swiftly towards Ikeja under the bridge and thereafter matched into Obafemi Awolowo Way enroute Alausa, the seat of Lagos State gov . ...

Mr. President, beware the North won’t help you — Salvadoron Former House of Representatives member, Salvador Adegoke Moshood, is a member from Lagos State representing Ethnic Nationalities at the ongoing National Conference. Moshood, who is also the Treasurer of the Yoruba Unity Forum, YUF, speaks on what the conference is out to do for Nigeria and how President Jonathan should tackle the security challenges facing the nation so as to make the country stronger and better for all Nigerians. By Soni Daniel, Regional Editor, North WHAT has the YUF achieved since it came out drumming support for the promotion of the core ideals of the late Sage, Obafemi Awolowo? Well, our major effort is basically geared towards improving what Papa had done. That is very important to us and we must continue to work in that regard. How are you doing that? One of the biggest opportunities we have had to propagate the values for which papa lived and died is the ongoing National Conference. It is more than agitating daily. It ...
Farewell to the great Nationalists, the lands were green when u were alive; the paradise u created while I was still in thefoetus has now be turned into red lands where blood flows like river Nile; your children u handed over powers to have become the enemies of the paradise u created; while in your spirit world, u still watch over us; u battle against earthquake, tsunami, cyclones, tonados so that your paradise remain as u have created it before u left the journey underneath the surface of your paradise. Is it when the paradise is fully distroyed that you will magotize to fight? The worst parts is that your great grand children have been kidnapped and you filled relaxed without echoing and belching on the enemies. We know u are within us and we summond you to arise and restructure the self actualisation, emancipation you fought! Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Tafawa Balewa, Harbert Macaulay, King Jaja of Opobo, Nana of Itsekiri, Ahmadu Bello, Ameh Oboni etcetra. Pals help me invoke their spirits- ARISE ...
He won accolades as an innovator and welfare-state builder as premier.(Obafemi Awolowo)
We need more of the sort of leadership our leaders of old provided. They were not saints but they put the people's interests before their individual and family's interests. We had the examples of the man in this story, Nigeria first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, the Sage, Obafemi Awolowo and the great Nnamdi Azikiwe and others. We can collectively work to restore the old order.
LIFE AND TIMES OF BORO: PART 3 From Teacher To Policeman In January, 1958, I entered the teaching field and was posted to the mission school at Amassoma where my father was headmaster. The school had a population of about six hundred pupils. I was the next most qualified teacher so I became the second master. Power was in my hands. I could hear the throttle in me pressing on power. Funny enough, some of my former elementary school teachers were my colleagues as staff. This was also the period when broader issues than teaching began to make an impression on me. Little did I know of politics. Less did I know of why it existed at all. Meanwhile, whether I knew nothing of this hydraheaded monster or not, a freezing political blizzard was blowing its way throughout Eastern Nigeria. Chief Obafemi Awolowo had introduced what he called his Free Primary Education. This book is not to discuss the merits and demerits of that system. In fact, I shall leave it to educationists. But I shall mention certain effects it h ...
