"Who said Nigerians are too divided as a people to aspire towards a common goal? These are Ijaw people celebrating Obafemi Awolowo's birthday. I remain the most optimistic man in Naija despite the incessant challenges we face as epitomised by Boko Haram. We are on the road to success"! ― promulgated: Nigerians Must Unite And Liberate Nigeria Forum   ChiefObafemi Awolowo was not privy to the conspiracy that established Nigeria. The Ijaw people, and by extension, the natives of the Niger Delta were not privy to the conspiracy that established Nigeria. They are the lamb of god that keeps Nigeria alive. How true is it, when peoples around the world are saying that Africa’s mineral resources is not ‘a blessing’ for the peoples but course for war, hunger, starvation and death? Justice Fatai Williams presided; flanked by Justices Irikefe, Bello, Idigbe, Obaseki, Uwais and Kayode Esho, to decide the 1979 presidential election petition brought by Chief Obafemi Awolowo against Alhaji Shehu Shagari. According to the results announced on 16th August, 1979 by the Federal Electoral commission (FEDECO), Shehu Shagari scored 5, 688, 857 votes nation-wide whilst Obafemi Awolowo had 4, 916, 651 votes. Awolowo did not dispute these figures but rather contended that Shagari’s scores were in-sufficient, because the law required a returned candidate must fulfil two conditions simultaneously; namely to have the highest number of votes, which Shagari had, but also have “…not less than one quarter of the votes cast at the election in ...

If the Insurgents had succeeded in shooting down the plane that took President Jonathan to Borno State last week, what would have happened to the country called Nigeria?I mean are we sure that there will still be a anything like Nigeria today?I have finally come to believe that there is more to Bokoharam than what we are told on daily basis.Imagine those supposedly rag tag army having Anti air craft guns in their armory.I really thank God that there evil plan did not come to fruition because that would have been the end of a country described by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo as "a mere geographical expression".I am waiting to hear the response of Sultan of Sokoto who recently demanded for total amnesty for the evil group. It is becoming clearer by the day that the Nza bird that is dancing on the road has a drummer or group of drummers belting the sound in a nearby bush.Sultan of Sokoto should tell us who bokoharam backers are.The response giving to his request by Mr.President is definitely the most appropr ...
APC (All Progressive Congress ) challenge part 3 We have travelled this path before. The conservative governments at the centre jittered in the First and Second Republics, and they wheeled the democracies into rut, then chaos, then bloody disasters. That is why I say that the task before the governors and party wheel horses behind the mergers must pray for history not to prey on the nobility of the idea. In the First Republic, the Northern People’s Congress held sway and formed the government at the centre. It embarrassed everyone who wished the young nation well with brinkmanship, labour turbulence, deepening inequality all wrapped up in a petrifying lack of vision. To oust the Balewa government, a coalition came into being known as the United Progressive Grand Alliance (UPGA). It comprised Obafemi Awolowo’s Action Group, Nnamdi Azikiwe’s National Council of Nigerian Citizens, Aminu Kano’s Northern Elements Progressive Union, Joseph Tarka’s United Middle Belt Congress, among others. The NPC for ...

Let no one be deceived, 50 years is a long time, a *** long time! It took the government of Obafemi Awolowo in Western Region of the First Republic less than 10 years to establish the first television station in Africa; the first international standard stadium in Africa; the tallest building in Black Africa; a vibrant and flourishing industrial estate; world class university; free minimum and compulsory education; enduring road infrastructure; and numerous other benefits of life. And there was no oil money then. His government felt challenged; it had a sense of urgency to bring development and “life more abundant” to the people; and all energies and thoughts were so directed.
All Progressives Congress Opinion- 09/04/13: How APC Will Win The 2015 Presidential Election by Israel Ekene Ohia (Do you agree?) Thank God Almighty, per chance Nigerians may at last get rid of the PDP in 2015. Yes, we all want the ravaging PDP out of powerand out of our lives. You donot need to talk to thousands of Nigerians to realize this fact; just meet afew people in the streets ofany part of the country andthe same narrative will inevitably keep coming back at you – Nigerians today want the PDP out of power even more than they had wanted the military out in 1999. The reason is simple; the PDP has wrecked the country inits 13 years in office even more than the military did in its 29 years in power – whether it is on our national unity, politics, economy, corruption, insecurity, infrastructure, crime, dishonesty in leadership, theft, looting ofpublic funds, or any other aspect of our national life, the PDP has done worse than the military. So, Nigerians understandably want them out. But wanting ...

The CPC presidential candidate said the nation needed courageous people like el-Rufai to appeal to the people's conscience. He said the nation deserved principled leadership, noting that the first Premier of the old Western Region, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was spending 55 per cent on education, while the northern region spent 5 per cent on education and about 56 per cent on security.

On amnesty I don't know how the Sultan could say that. He should tell the country if he knows the devilish sect members of his religion. If not, they remain ghost as the President said and as such couldn't be granted amnesty. They fight for strange ideology. Is there any Islamic education that had brought development to any where. Religious education is for spiritual edification & salvation. It doesn't develop anywhere. It is civil education that build road, houses, air plane & even the guns & bombs used by BH. The north shouldn't claim that they didn't know their son, brother, husband Bombers. That's hypocrisy of the highest order. They know them. Let the leaders talked them down to stop this devilishness.
When will Nigeria have a leader in the progressive mode like Obafemi Awolowo? Nigerians should wake up $ stand for progress
Accord Party will bury PDP in Ibadan, Ladoja boasts Some PDP leaders decamped to Accord Party in Oyo State. A former Governor of Oyo State and National Leader of Accord Party, Rashidi Ladoja, said on Thursday that the party would not brook any act of thuggery, promising an open door to all peace-loving politicians in the state. Speaking while receiving some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Ibadan North West Local Government Area of the State, Mr. Ladoja said his party would drive the final nail on the coffin of the PDP in Oyo State. According to him, those who still remain in the PDP are wasting their time. Boasting of victory any time an election is conducted in the state, he said Accord is the only party that could offer the kind of leadership Oyo people deserved. “We are here to welcome people into our party. Today in Ibadan North West, everything called PDP is finished. Then, there was a party called PDP but now they are finished; PDP rest in peace in Ibadan North West. “We b ...
REAL STORY. The downfall of a man, is actually not the end of his life. You are not a FAILURE until you ADMIT that you are a FAILURE. 22years ago, I almost comitted suicide. I sat for my O' level examinations six times with only two credits to show for each sitting. I was a bit playful while in the Secondary School & I was not serious with my academics. Before the sixth attempt, my mum threatened me that she would enrol me with an Auto-Mechanic if I failed again. My Mum who is a graduate of University of Nigeria Nsukka was a Maths Teacher in a Secondary School then, while my Dad who went to the same university as my Mum was a School Principal, after he had taught Chemistry for several years. So, my educated parents could not understand. why I could not pass all my papers in flying colours in one sitting. After checking my results at the sixth attempt & it was the usual two credits, I said to myself that I would rather die than to be an auto- mechanic. I have prepared the rope getting ready to hang myself ...
Am not holding brief for any political party but I want to tell U @ this point that we don't have sincere politicians taking on the mantle of leadership of this country, including those that claim to share from Pa. Obafemi Awolowo leadership Ideologies. What we have are politician that will enrich their personal pockets and leave the masses to suffer.
Institutions of higher learning are considered as sine-qua-non of nation building. Without higher education or some semblance of education in Africa, especially in the colonial (pre-independence) era, the emergence of leaders of thought and action like the late Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Wangari Maathai of Kenya, Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Abubakar Tafawa of Nigeria, Nelson Mandela and Nadine Godimer both of South Africa respectively, etc. would not have been possible. Higher education and globalization are critical to Africa and should take its rightful place in the commity of nations

Chief Obafemi Awolowo is our all time hero & greatest Nigerian ever lived. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo & the feudal lords would not prefer Awo to Aliyu Shehu Shagari bcos they all have something to hide, & the sage won't take that. Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe on his part would not have done for the South West half a tenth of what Awo did. So we were better off without him. As for Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, he's better off accusing Zik, his kinsman than Awo. What did Zik do to help the cause of the Biafrans ? As for Chief MKO Abiola, he, at the end, went the way the sage prepared for him. What was his gain in all these ? A clear case of vanity. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida captured it all : 'You are either with Awolowo or you are against him'.
first and foremost if Yorubas decided loathsome to denial the former President of Nigeria Obasanjo as their son, they should better come out clearly and say it. secondly they should stop beating about the bush by saying Obasanjo is not Yorubas that his father is an Igbo man, that they've shown Obasanjo the house his father built. this is scandalous and opprobbrium and scurrilous abomination act. how could a man who above 70 years old and who has been serving his country diligence and punctilious not considering his reputation. irrelevant and unimportant people wokeup one day and decided to say he is not the son of soil, this is political ambition by out rivaling his political career. thirdly except if prof. Wole Sonika involved in this who I think he may have useful and little knowledge about where this guy in question came from. and other people who I thought they can offer sufficience information about about this guy, few of them have died. people like late Lawyer Gani (SAN), Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ige, ...
Fellow Nigerians! Who among these three has been responsible for election of our presidents since 1960 and how? God, the people or the 'cabal'? Can you explain why your choice couldn't make any of these presidents despite their resources and eminent qualifications? Obafemi Awolowo, Maitama Sule, Olusola Saraki, MKO, Kingibe, Alex Ekwueme, Chukwuemeka Ezeife,Atiku etc? Will the samething be applicable in 2015?

No man can quantify and *** the quality and the value of a Mother from all fronts. Let us celebrate our mothers the world over. In the words of the Late Sage (Chief Obafemi Awolowo) he described his wife while in prison in letter to her as "A jewelry of inestimable value" all mothers are Jewelries of inestimable value. Celebrate them, make them tall, put smiles on their faces and they will bless you abundantly.
Indeed, the creation of the Mid-West State will be the beginning of a journey which may be short or long but which will, in my considered judgment, irresistibly bring Nigeria to the goal of true federalism and more states, and of individuals freedom and happiness foe all our people. .Chief Obafemi Awolowo 1957

Edo guber race: PDP wrestled with Invincible Forces – Esogban of Benin By SIMON EBEGBULEM The Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, is the Chairman of the Benin Forum, the apex socio-cultural organization in Benin Kingdom, which speaks on behalf of the Benin Monarch, Omo N’Oba Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, and the Binis both in Nigeria and the Diaspora. Prior to the Edo State July 14 gubernatorial election, the Esogban declared that the gods had endorsed Governor Adams Oshiomhole and that whoever “wants to doubt the oracle should wait for July 14”. He then went on to predict that the candidate of the PDP in the poll, Gen.Charles Airhiavbere, will not win any ward in the seven local government councils in Edo South. Hispredictions did not only come true, but it was also extended to the other two senatorial districts. In this interview, Edebiri speaks on the outcome of the Edo election and other national issues. D continent of Africa has produced world class leaders of which their legacies has remain evergreen in our memories, d likes of Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Samora Machel of Mozambique, Patrice Lumumba of Congo, Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and Obafemi Awolowo of Nigeria, Moumar Gaddafi of Libya, Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, Felix Boigny of Ivory Coast and host of others dat ve played a vital role in binding d Whole continent without any discrimination . All of dem have bin called 2 d great beyond and we d future generation wat hinders us following their footsteps ?
Fools, our faith in God has not been able to deliver our country from the hands of the oyinbos who gave us independence on 1st October 1960.We are still tied to the apron string of our colonial task masters. They gave us a system called DEMOCRACY which actually is DEMONSTRATION OF CRAZE,so that they can continue to rule us indirectly and keep us in perpetual slavery.Chief Obafemi Awolowo,Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe,Tafawa Balewa and the founding fathers of Nigeria who we can truly refer to as elder statesmen are gone, yet we their children are still in SLAVERY to our colonial task masters. The visions of our colonial task masters are:to keep the future generation of Nigerians in perpetual slavery and to make the future generation of Nigerians subordinate to their own children. WHEN WILL NIGERIA HAVE A CHAVEZ? When would we have Nigerian leaders who's death would elicit such a deep and genuine sense of loss from the people as displayed openly by the Venezuelan people for Chavez.
HISTORY NEWS: Around this time in 1909,the late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo was born. march 6th 1909(104yrs ago)
"To his people he was their Hero, to others he was villain".~Late Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela. How many Nigerian ex-leaders could get these heroic accolade? None so far.
Please join me in mourning the death of a very good people’s leader Hugo Chavez. This spontaneous heart-felt reaction of Venezualans has to do with Mr Chavez populist, pro-poor development programmes on social housing, massive employment, infrastructure, medicare etc I watched some of the ceremonies on television and few Nigerian Leaders will ever evoke the response I saw. Our challenge is quite simple. We have extremely bad selfish and incompetent leaders who think about how to share oil money as personal loot. Apart from Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nigeria has not had a true opposition figure/ Leader. The absence of political pluralism in Nigeria has given our ruling party freedom to ignore our needs. Im very excited about the convergence of the APC, first because I am left of centre in the political spectrum but more importantly because if APC succeeds, we will have a second major party. PDP is right of centre while the APC is left of centre; at any rate so they claim. As both parties hopefully vigorously ...
Blame Gowon and the Cicero, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Look at the way states were created and the centralization of power
The truth dt our Yoruba n Niger-Delta brothers may nt like 2hear or believe abt d Nigerian civil war is; ''They were defeatd 2geda wt d Biafrans. D war was actualy btw d Northern n Southern protectorates. Bt they sold out after swallowng d ''Igbo-coup'' pill of d north out of fear'' Whn a war is fought and won, d victors share d spoil; they take prisoners of war and milk d conquered territories dry. When Gowon declared NO VICTOR, NO VANQUISHED, he played on your intelligence. Does d 1966-1999 northern dictatorship; d moving of d nations capital 4rm Lagos to north; d killing of Abiola; d killng of Ken Saro Wiwa, Dele Giwa(prisoners of war), d Ogoni struggle, d Odi massacre, d slaughtering of ur sons n daughters by d north(Boko Haram) and more recently d dscovery dt 83% of oil blocks in Nigeria is owned by northerners, make you d victor or d vanquished? May b u can call it betrayal. Bt d bitter truth it shows is; YOU WERE CONQUERED WHEN BIAFRA WAS CONQUERED. Cowards indeed die twice. '
WHO ARE THE PROGRESSIVE? Belonging to a political party or being a politician does not make you a progressive, what makes you a progressive is what you stand for. In Political Science progressive or progressivism is a political movement that represents the interest of ordnary people in their role as a tax payers, consumers, employees, citizens and parent. It is also a political movement or political atitude that favours or advocates changes through governmental action in the interest of the mases. progressive is equaly viewed to be in direct opposition to the conservative or reactionary ideologies which seek to maintain status quo. Talking about the term progressive, Nigerian politicians love it,they admire it and love to be associated with it. But now who are the real progressive politisians in Nigeria that are realy their for the ordnary people?.
THE YORUBA *** NIGERIAN VOTERS: Rather than dissipating our energies and wasting useful resources aspiring to going into future elections in Nigeria, or into any slavish alliance, to produce an Hausa-Fulani Nigerian president, to continue with the neo-colonial agenda of forceful stealing the resources of the south, under a fake one Nigeria bigger family, let the oduduwa people adjust their mindset and focus more, on how to first form a government that would be preside over their sovereign homeland of oduduwa. Let us be president or prime minister in our homeland first, make it work effectively and productively on the solid foundation of sound moral, social, and political rectitude. Today, many millions of the Yorubas are grossly lacking in these critical values, stated above. If we turn our attention squarely on oduduwa nation and its totality, not minding who is the president or prime minister, and make it work like Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia, as a takeoff point, all the criminal activities, physica ...

Soyinka joins Sanusi on call to ban ethno-religious groups Chibisi Ohakah | Mar 08, 2013 | 0 comments Professor Wole Soyinka Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s call for a ban on ethno- religious groups in Nigeria has received a seconder with Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka arguing in Lagos that the groups have done nothing but to pursue and promote ethnic and religious sentiments in Nigeria. Speaking during his speech titled ‘Winding Down History: Religion and Nation, Power and Freedom” delivered at the inaugural award of the Obafemi Awolowo Prize for Leadership last Tuesday in Lagos, Professor Soyinka stated that out of sheer hypocrisy, religious and ethnic leaders adopt the position of silence when the religious rights of others are being threatened. This situation, he said portends a monumental danger that could engulf the entire nation, if the trend was not checked. In a reference to a position taken by the governor of CBN, the Nobel laureate stated, “I ...

Good morning Nigerians. Pls answer this question. Were Obafemi Awolowo to be alive today, how do u think he would describe the present civilian government in Nigeria? Peace.
This being a true copy of my comment on another thread: Obafemi Awolowo elected to "miss" the opportunity to declare Oduduwa Republic because he was promised a future presidency of Nigeria by the North!...a decision he lied about.preferring to tell us that his motive majores was an obsession with undying unity of Nigeria! And when the North had finished using him, he was cast away.albeit deservedly.like a piece of ignoble sodden thrash! And thus consequently, especially when this fact is added to the vast tentacles of Awolowo in multiple business ventures mostly gotten through kickbacks and translating into huge financial gains, Awolowo was mainly motivated by self- interest rather than the common good. The North understood his exceptional greed and used it as a weapon against him. He lived a frustrating political life...especially towards the twilight of his deceitful life. The Yorubas were collectively taken in by his smooth mien and fine exterior.relentlessly harping on his policy of free education, fi ...

“When PDP was in government, we ruled with the fear of God. We were not demolishing people’s means of livelihood; rather, we were building roads and building people and the state. We put smiles on the faces of the masses and not the sorrow and gnashing of teeth that the current administration has brought them. This is why today PDP members can walk on the streets proud of the achievements that are visible everywhere in the state." - Bayo Alao Akala. How should we define drama? Experientially it is the replication or summary of the 'show-off' in all of us; by onscreen, upstage or audio actors and actresses. We all want to show-off, but to pencil it down like Wole Soyinka or Shakespeare is a problem. We resort to , 'Looking good is serious business!' Or engaging in shouting matches, amounting to, 'Look at me! I act better than you!' We long for drama most times; no wonder we spend valuable time eavesdropping, spying, gossiping, backstabbing or betraying even our loved ones. Which is why soap opera sells hot. Networks spend billions on tv series/serials. Some of us won't bother about our daily work schedule but to hear, 'So-so-and-so' slept with 'So-so-and-so,' because her libido is the highest in my small town capital city, like Uyo. Imagine living in a condominium! Matter of fact from your waking to sleeping everyone wants to know what you did in between. That's why architects designed flats, but family members still claim privacy to hide their ...

2015: OPC, IJAW CONGRESS BACK JONATHAN. Congress and the Ijaw National Congress have declared their support for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the general election in 2015. The two groups said Jonathan deserves a second herm. Leaders of the two groups, Dr. Frederick Faseun of the OPC and Comrade James Evah of the INC, on Thursday openly declared support for Jonathan for a second term. Speaking in Lagos State at the Okota headquarters of the OPC, the leaders of the two regional bodies, said anyone against Jonathan running for a second term was acting contrary to the constitution of the country. The two leaders spoke when Evah visited Fasehun in commemoration of the birthday of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Faseun said: “The constitution says that a president can spend two tenures. “It’s a constitutional arrangement. “I won’t be part of the group that will flout the constitution of this country. “Everybody has a right to contest after Jonathan’s term. “Jonathan has only spent half of his ...
I do not think it is premature to doff my hat to Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun. Of course, Hon. Remmy Hassan too. But SIA gets the most kudos because I've had to go back to 2008 when Hon. Titi Oseni was removed as Speaker, OGHA, and we could not gain the confidence of the lawmakers to enable them sit at a roundtable with us, and return her to office. Maybe he listened to advice. Maybe others did help him. But the reality is that in this case at hand, SIA passed where we failed. It is not easy getting opposition legislators to your table as Governor. It is even more difficult getting your party members who are opposed to you due to internal party issues. Yet, they all heeded his call for an amicable resolution of the crisis. I'll still write on this some other day. Maybe, Hassan needs to whisper some things to his neighbour and in-law in Bayelsa State about The Presidency's frosty relationship with the House of Representatives, which is controlled by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ...

Being full text of a lecture delivered by Nobel Laureate and winner of the Obafemi Awolowo prize for leadership, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Wednesday 6 March, 2013. Today’s event may yet make a Christian out of me – since, from my admittedly imperfect recollection of the Christian bible – somewhere, it is written: to him who hath, even more shall be given. Despite the numerous explications I have encountered from childhood regarding that problematic passage, I have never been at ease with its implicit inequity. Today however, I am setting aside all such objections. I was a beneficiary of the liberal educational policy – at tertiary level - of the man whose memory we are here to honour, and now, today, I find myself recipient of yet another largesse, an inestimable honour at the hands - albeit posthumously – of that same sage. As a small return therefore, in tribute to some of those qualities which, in varying degrees, many of us admired in him, such as the principle of forthrightness, I intend t ...
