Wimbledon stage set for Murray 19 June 2014, 16:54 When Andy Murray walks into Wimbledon on Monday to begin what he hopes will be the successful defence of his title he may be feeling a little lighter than usual at this time of year. Ever since assuming the role of Britain's flag bearer at the All England Club from perennial semifinalist Tim Henman, Murray has shouldered the huge weight of expectation heaped on him by a nation desperate to celebrate a men's singles champion. He finally delivered last year, beating Novak Djokovic on an unforgettable sunny afternoon on Centre Court, at a stroke wiping away decades of mediocrity and hurt that followed Fred Perry's 1936 title run in south west London. Things have not gone exactly to plan in the intervening 12 months, however, with injuries, poor form and changes to his coaching personnel raising serious questions about his ability to match last year's heroics. Djokovic, without a Grand Slam title since the Australian Open in 2013, will be leading the cast of ...
Novak Djokovic is the winner of 10 tournaments in 2011. An incredible year for the newly appointed Audemars Piguet ambassador with victories in 3 Grand Chelem tournaments at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and more recently at the US Open. This video was shot during a photo session held in New York. Novak appears very relaxed and openly speaks about how he was introduced to Audemars Piguet, his relation with the brand and how he shares some of the same values.
Stan crushed; Rafa, Novak untroubled 26 May 2014 Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka came back to earth with a thump on the sodden clay at the French Open when he was beaten by Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round on Monday to become the tournament's first big casualty. The Swiss third seed threw away a 3-1 lead in the first set and even though he pulled level by winning the second set he capitulated to a 6-4 5-7 6-2 6-0 defeat against a man who has never gone past the third round at Roland Garros. Dealing with expectation has never been a problem for Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal and they both raced into the second round on a damp day in the French capital. Second seed Djokovic played the funny man as he slithered to a 6-1 6-2 6-4 win over Portugal's Joao Sousa while defending champion Nadal slipped into his customary role of cold-blooded assassin against Robbie Ginepri. Djokovic had criticised the surface on the Philippe Chatrier show court for being too damp after several days of ...

Federer out to continue revival 23 February By Richard Eaton Dubai – Roger Federer's performance in reaching the semi-final of the Australian Open last month is the first step in a mini-revival of tennis' great legend. This week could see the second. That is the scenario Federer intends pursuing when he returns to the ATP Tour and tries to win back the title at his adopted second home at the Dubai Open. Victories over Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Melbourne will be followed by a chance to challenge Novak Djokovic, the top-seeded titleholder, here. Although the formidable Serb is seeking a record fifth Dubai title, Federer has a better record against Djokovic than against Rafael Nadal, the man who halted him last month, and he feels encouraged by his performances in the first Grand Slam of the year. “I think it has been a very good start to the season for me overall, “ Federer said. “I have played some really good tennis. I still feel my best tennis is ahead of me right now. “So I'm looki ...
A versatile player, Novak Djokovic has won six Grand Slam titles, including three in a superlative 2011 season that saw him capture 10 tournament titles overall, post an ATP-best 70-6 record and seize the No. 1 ranking. In 2012, The world No. 1 added to his legacy in fighting back from a 2-4 fifth-set deficit to defeat Rafal Nadal, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5, and capture his third Australian Open championship in the longest Grand Slam final in history — a five hour, 53-minute epic. It was Djokovic's seventh straight win over Nadal and came after his five-set triumph over Andy Murray in the semifinals, marking the first time he had won back-to-back five-set matches. Djokovic became the fifth man in the Open Era to win three straight majors, joining Nadal, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Rod Laver.  The top-seeded Serbian beat Andy Murray, 6-1, 7-6, to collect his third career Miami title without surrendering a set. It was Djokovic's 30th career title, including his 11th Masters crown, tying him with Pe ...
February 8 2014 Dubai UAE    Novak Djokovic is accustomed to defending titles, but his defence of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships crown he claimed in 2013 will have a special edge to it. The Serbian will not only be bidding to equal Roger Federer’s record title tally of five when play in the ATP World Tour 500 Series Event begins on 24th February, he will also be trying to accomplish a career-first and win a title for the fifth time.   So the pressure will be on as he faces a spectacular field that includes not only arch-rival Federer but 2013 semi-finalist Juan Martin Del Potro, recent Australian Open semi-finalist Tomas Berdych and the entertaining Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.   “The pressure is always there as a top player. I do feel there's always high expectations,” said Djokovic, who won the title in 2009-11 as well as 2013. “But it's all part of our sport. It's what we need to deal with. It's what we need to accept and, you know, try to use it in a positive way.   “By saying that, I ...

Hard work helped me – Wawrinka Stanislas Wawrinka has revealed that hard work and confidence has helped him become a Grand Slam winner in Australia. Disbelief appeared to be the 28-year-old’s primary emotion following his 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3 triumph over a hobbling Rafael Nadal in a dramatic Australian Open Final at the weekend. The Swiss was reflecting on his incredible feat on Monday in Melbourne having become the first man to beat Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the same Grand Slam and the first player to defeat the top two in the world since Sergi Bruguera at the French Open in 1993 according to Sky Sports. “It still feels like a dream because it’s a Grand Slam title so it’s something that’s just amazing for me,” Wawrinka said. “It’s just good to wake up with that trophy. I didn’t get much sleep. I was with my team, some friends, family, we celebrated a little bit and enjoyed the moment. We came back late but that’s a good problem to have.” As well as getting his hands on silverware, W ...
In the 35 Grand Slams that preceded this Australian Open, Juan Martin Del Potro was the only man able to prevent the name of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic being inscribed on the trophy.
Crystal ball: the men Sunday, 26 January, 2014 There are few global sports that have had the predictability of men’s tennis in the past decade, where the ‘Big Four’ of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have largely dominated the majors. But Stanislas Wawrinka’s title run at this year’s Australian Open shows that while the afore-mentioned quartet are sure to be major factors in every tournament they contest, the door is now ajar for other players to make moves. With his take-down of Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Rafael Nadal in the final in Melbourne, the eighth-seeded Wawrinka became the first man to defeat the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds at a Grand Slam since Sergi Bruguera did it at Roland Garros in 1993. Coming into last season, Wawrinka was on the verge of being an afterthought at the age of 27. But after a five-set loss to Djokovic in Melbourne 12 months ago that many thought was the match of the year, he worked doubly hard, began to develop faith in his shots ...
Seven years ago, a precocious 20 year old named Rafael Nadal took to Rod Laver Arena to face an emerging star in Stanislas Wawrinka, in the third round of the 2007 Australian Open. In what would be the first of 12 encounters between the Spaniard and the Swiss, Nadal has dominated the FedEx ATP Head2Head, having yet to relinquish a set. Wawrinka, however, has made inroads in recent meetings, particularly on hard courts, and will be looking to play spoiler when they battle for the 2014 crown in Melbourne on Sunday. This will undoubtedly be Wawrinka’s greatest challenge, but the Swiss is up to the test and is no stranger to pulling off the big upset on the big stage, less than a week removed from stunning three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic in a pulsating quarter-final affair. “I’m at the top of my career,” Wawrinka said. “Already last year I had the feeling that I was playing better, but I was dealing better with the pressure also. I’m more mature. I’m 28 now. I’m on the tour since ...
Djokovic's reign ends: Novak Djokovic's reign as king of the Australian Open is over. The Serb suffers defeat ...
Pete Sampras on Rafa: Tennis legend Pete Sampras described Rafael Nadal as "incredible" after watching the world number one live for the first time at the Australian Open. Nadal, 27, faces Stanislas Wawrinka in Sunday's final, and a win will see him equal Sampras's 14 Grand Slam titles. "I think he's incredible," Sampras told BBC Sport. "I saw him play live for the first time on Friday night and the movement he has is incredible." "He's able to adjust his shots on the run. I've never seen anything like it." Sampras, 42, ended his career in 2002 with a record 14 major singles titles, only for Roger Federer to surpass him and amass 17 in his career to date. And Nadal is widely expect to draw level with the American on Sunday when he takes on Federer's fellow Swiss Wawrinka, playing in his first major final. Sampras arrived in Melbourne on Friday in time to see the Spaniard beat Federer in straight sets in the semi-finals. "To see him play - he hits a very heavy ball, serves pretty well, he does everything," ...

Excited though he was at his own quarter-final win on Wednesday night, it’s entirely possible that Roger Federer was even more delighted for countryman and good friend Stanislas Wawrinka, whom he cheered to victory over Novak Djokovic the night before. Unbeaten as yet in 2014, Wawrinka opened the season with victory at the Aircel Chennai Open before edging three-time defending champion Djokovic in five sets on Tuesday night to reach his first Australian Open semi-final. It comes hot on the heels of his first major semi-final appearance at the US Open and his debut at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November. It leaves Switzerland on the edge of its seat at the very real possibility of the first all-Swiss Grand Slam final at Melbourne Park. “The moment you start thinking about that we're taking the same flight home,” cautioned Federer. “I'm worried about my match clearly, but I'll definitely watch his first. Hopefully he can make it. Then he can put the pressure on me that way. Excited though ...

Australian Open: Novak Djokovic wins in front of new coach Boris Becker
One of the biggest bets of this month is Australian Open 2014 outright where I found huge value on this odds in favor of Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic. I really think that in this moment nobody can take the idea out of Djokovic winning Australian Open fith time in his carreer. If he does so, he will be the first ever professional player to take five titles in Australian tournamet. Djokovic, who took titles in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2013 is equal with Roger Federrer (2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010) and legendary Andre Agasi (1995, 2000, 2001 and 2003) will sure be motivated to play another one of his greatest tournaments in Australia on where he enjoys playing favorite hard surface and yet i believe he will be the first professional player to make this record of five titles at Australian Open since Roy Emerson made six titles but in non profesional era (1961, 1963, '64, '65, '66 and '67). Rafael Nadal, who is the only player capable of destroying Djokovic's game is far away from his best form and has alrea ...

Matches of the Day – Day 1 1. Serena Williams vs. Ashleigh Barty Top seeded Williams faces an interesting opponent in the opening round in the form of local girl and rising star Ashleigh Barty. The diminutive Aussie is a former Wimbledon junior champion and, although she is yet to make a major impact on the WTA Tour in terms of singles performances, relying on a wildcard to enter the main draw of this tournament, Barty has already impressed on the doubles circuit. The Aussie, teaming up with compatriot Casey Dellacqua, made the final of 3 Grand Slams in 2013, thanks in no small part to her fabulous volleying ability.
