"LOVE" LOCKS over the side railings of a mini bridge adjacent to Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, has been a major tourist site. There are six bridges of such kind over river Sienne...around the whole Paris.where thousands and thousands of locks...locked on the hard wiring of railings are seen. They are locked there and keys thrown in river by lovers and married couples since 1960. There have been at least 50 couples from 1960 who revisited this place and located their locks they had placed here in 1960. Their children and grand children were with them. I placed a lock with my wife and my names in June 2013.and went to Notre Dame. When I again crossed this bridge I couldn't locate my lock as fifty more were placed within that hour I spent at Notre Dame...where a choir of seniors singing a gospel in front of it.
The Palais Garnier, Paris The Palais Garnier (pronounced: [palɛ ɡaʁnje]) is a 1,979-seat opera house, which was built from 1861 to 1875 for the Paris Opera. It was originally called the Salle des Capucines because of its location on the Boulevard des Capucines in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, but soon became known as the Palais Garnier in recognition of its opulence and its architect, Charles Garnier. The theatre is also often referred to as the Opéra Garnier, and historically was known as the Opéra de Paris or simply the Opéra,[7] as it was the primary home of the Paris Opera and its associated Paris Opera Ballet until 1989, when the Opéra Bastille opened at the Place de la Bastille.[8] The Paris Opera now mainly uses the Palais Garnier for ballet. The Palais Garnier is "probably the most famous opera house in the world, a symbol of Paris like Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, or the Sacré Coeur Basilica."[9] This is at least partly due to its use as the setting for Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel ...

*** Chi Minh City Vietnam - the final chapter of our fabulous trip. Our beautiful home here is the Intercontinental - great property & location. We had a wonderful guide who led us on a fascinating highlight tour - visiting the colonial landmarks of the city including the Post Office (designed by the architect of the Eiffel Tower). We also went to the Notre Dame Cathedral - a smaller version of the one in Paris. In addition we went to City Hall, the Opera House, & a quick visit to the very busy Benh Thanh Market. An excellent way to start our stay in this bustling city.
We've had a busy few days so far in Paris. We had a night cruise on the Seine after dinner, the first night. Then we visited the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, went up to the viewing platform of the Eiffel Tower, then dinner and a show at Nouvelle Eve. A chill out day then off to the Moulin Rouge for dinner and a show last night. Today we visited Monet's garden at beautiful Giverny, followed by lunch in a lovely little town. Then we went to Versailles to see the famous Palace, in all it's glory. Tough job, but someone's got to do it.
Some more fantastic photos from our friend Warren Samuel Eaton. 'From an Album (AL17) on the life of Warren Samuel Eaton who was born in South Dakota on June 12, 1891 and moved to Los Angeles as a child. He formed Eaton Brothers Aircraft with his brother Frank and they built several aircraft together. Warren teamed with Lincoln Beachy and barnstormed with him. He also built some of Beachy's airplanes. Later, he assisted Glenn Curtiss with the design of amphibian aircraft. When the U.S. Government established licensing for pilots, Warren Eaton was issued License Number 85. A short time later, at the beginning of WWI, Warren was employed by the U.S. Army Air Service at what is now Wright Patterson Air Force Base. After the war, he went to work for Universal Pictures and developed miniatures to be used in movies. He built a set of San Francisco which was used to depict the destruction of the city during the 1906 Earthquake. He also constructed a copy of the Notre Dame Cathedral used in the “Hunchback of No ...

*** Chi Minh City (still popularly known as Saigon) was expectedly much bigger, more prosperous and upbeat 23 years after I left the city in 1991. But it has retained its quintessential beauty of French colonial era (tree lined boulevards, cathedrals and imposing government buildings) and modern American era architecture - exemplified by my favourite hotels (Continental, Rex, Caravelle and Majestic). For me though, the greatest pleasure afforded by the trip was the opportunity to catch up with my colleagues (many of whom still work for the Consulate General of India, *** Chi Minh City) and friends (Abdul Hamid and family, Tuyet and Vinh, Du, Hussein, Thanh, Chien and many others). I also remembered those I could not meet (my good friend Vakil of Mafatlal's - who sadly passed away), Atul Kumar (who I met in Hanoi), both of whom lived on the broad boulevard between the Reunification Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral, Lien, Hom and Manh (the latter two have migrated to USA). What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, (KJV) ( 1 Corinthians 6:19 ) God's presence is fully found in both the Notre Dame Cathedral and the rural cinderblock church. Both of these are temple's built to honor and glorify God. In the same way, the Holy Spirit is found inside your body. Your body is beautiful. It brings glory to God. Be amazed at the wonder of your body, your eyes, fingers, and even the aches and pains. It is special. God created you to be you, in the way you look, your voice, and even your imperfections. The true reason of Friday the 13th The Knights Templar were a monastic military order founded in Jerusalem in the year 1118. Their original mission was to guide and protect Christian pilgrims along the path from Europe to Jerusalem during the Crusades. Through this mission, the Templars developed a banking system to protect the finances of the traveling pilgrims, then expanded this system throughout their holdings in Europe. Over time, France's Philip IV of France amassed a debt to the Knights Templar for years of service. He had nearly depleted his money due to his ongoing battles with England. King Phillip became envious of the Knights Templar and their rise to power, so he set his sights on their famed fortunes. Philip devised a plan to arrest all the Knights Templar and charge them with crimes so devastating that no person or group would come to their defense. The charges against them were religious in nature and backed by the papacy of the Vatican and Pope Clement V. His plan had to be swift and care ...

"We're here perched on the cathedral of Notre Dame, which you'll of course recognize as the landmark of the Hunchback of Notre Dame."
The whole superstition regarding the unluckiness of Friday the thirteenth arose when, on Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip IV of France ordered the simultaneous arrest and imprisonment of all the available Knights Templar, and the confiscation of all their worldly goods. Because of this unwarranted persecution of the Knights Templar, all down the ages, Friday the thirteenth has been considered an unlucky day ever since. Many, many Knights Templar were tortured into confessing such misdeeds as heresy, treason, worshipping an idol; all capital offenses. Many executions were carried out: many Knights Templar were burnt at the stake, including the elderly leader of the Order, Grand Master Jacques de Molay. As he was burnt at the stake, he faced the Notre Dame Cathedral, his hands folded in prayer. He said: "God knows who has sinned. Soon a calamity will occur to those who have condemned us to death." Pope Clement, who was instrumental in disbanding the Knights Templar, died only a month later, and King Ph ...

I just realized tomorrow is Friday the 13th! Here's some info on the subject. (This is my very favorite regarding such dreadful day). Friday the 13th and the Knights Templar King Phillip's ordered arrests of knights Templars, as there were charges of heresy against them, these orders were sent a month in advance to the King's Men and other Bailiffs. They were not to be opened till dawn on Friday, October 13, 1307. The charges against the Templars were of the highest accusations of heresy: that the Knights Templar asked members to spit on the cross and step on it, to deny Christ, to perform homosexual acts, and so on. The king's orders were to arrest every Templar in France. All Templar outposts, homes, wineries, mills, and castles were to be taken in the name of the King of France and Pope Clement V. This nationwide arrest was widely successful, and medieval torture tactics were used to obtain confessions from the Knights. This single act against the Templar Order is now viewed as one of the most unluck . ...

My day in Paris: 6:45am wake up, morning snack (baguette with Bordier butter and strawberry preserves and water), get dressed, morning swim, quick stop at Wednesday Farmer's Market for fresh eggs and pastries from cute Italian man who likes to practice his English, go back to flat, breakfast (fresh oj, egg, baguette with Bordier butter, ham and tea with local honey), a couple hours of design work and internet surfing, decide where to go in Paris, have a snack (some local cheese, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, Italian pastry and a nectarine), get cleaned up and ready to go, check Metro maps, out the door at 2pm, Metro to Nation to Raspail to St. Michel, walk to Shakespeare & Co., take pictures of Notre Dame Cathedral on the way, at Shakespeare & Co. look at books, explore the very cool store, stealth picture taking, find many books to buy, buy 4 books (all stamped) and a S&Co book bag and 5 postcards, leave Shakespeare & Co.,walk across Pont de l'Archeveché (another bridge covered in locks Nicole Davies), wal ...

Strasbourg, France, is one of the most picturesque cities I have seen. So lovely! Interesting fact.Strasbourg has been a city in France and Germany over the past century depending on who won the war! It currently is French since the Germans lost WWII and it was given back to Fance! It has it's own Notre Dame Cathedral though not nearly as beautiful as the one in Paris! Photos to follow!
Check out the girls enjoying the day at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France!!!.

Aloha! RAINY DAY EIFFEL is another 'oldie but goodie' colorway inspired by a photo I took while on a Seine River tour which circled the city and included views of several famous monuments and buildings including the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum and of course, the Eiffel Tower. It started to rain so we were huddled inside and I snapped a photo through the window of the boat. The raindrops on the windows made for a great foreground element, while the Paris sun was setting behind the tower. These pieces are Shetland roving and merino/silk lace yarn - enjoy!
Is this really happening? The amazing witness to God's awesomeness, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Mass with Cardinal Vingt-trois

This past March, I visited Paris and walked around the Latin District with a coworker who used to live there. I visited the Notre Dame Cathedral for the third time in the past five years, and I marveled at how amazing it is and at how small I really am. I visited the world famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore and purchased a beautiful coffee table book, which I had stamped with their famous mark. I drank Parisian beer and paid less for it than water, as water is so expensive. I went to Brussels and saw the Mannekin Pis; only after I asked a bartender where it was and he chuckled, then directed me to a tiny statue 10 feet from me. I binged on Belgian beers and Belgian chocolates. I meant to bring some home as gifts but somehow that didn't happen (oops). I went back to Paris and walked aimlessly around Le Marais with three friends. We ordered French food, and we didn't know what it was. I ordered macarons from the world Famous Lauderee on Champs Elysees. I only bought 6; they were gone in five minutes. ...
*** Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is beautiful! We have dubbed it the Paris of Asia. Busy streets are filled with motor scooters and old buildings hold the mysteries of the past in their walls. Yesterday we visited the Cu Chi Tunnels- underground tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war. They were used for everything from mobility during battle, to cooking, to schools, and bunkers. We then saw Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, the old post office, and visited the War Remnants Museum where we got a bit of understanding on the Vietnamese perspective. For dinner, Eric discovered Temple Club Restaurant serving delicious Vietnamese food, the perfect blend of Asian and European cooking. After dinner we went over to the The Continental Hotel, where Graham Greene wrote "The Quiet American". Today we venture out to walk the streets. Lunch will be local street food. We will explore HCMC's Chinatown and temples. For dinner, French!
Just a chocolate sculpture of the Notre Dame Cathedral
Gifts I sit at my computer and there, on the screen, is a magnificent picture of Notre Dame Cathedral. It takes my breath away. The photographer captured the essence of this piece of architecture; not only the beauty of the structure but its absolute radiance. So many have given their gifts in the process from those who dug, and carried, to the architect, the priests, those who have tended the building over the years, and, of course, the photographer. St. Francis said, “It is in giving that we receive.” As we give of ourselves we become a stroke in the masterpiece of life. Today I enter wholly into life… Giving that which is mine to give Without reservation I am one with all that is.

CAN YOU HELP ? Stockport Council is looking for information on an event which happened in the borough nearly a century ago. As part of Stockport’s World War One commemorations, Stockport is linking with the town of Haybes in the Ardennes region of France. In August 1914 Haybes was bombed and completely burnt out, leaving 60 civilians dead. Stockport and other UK towns and cities took up the call after the war from Marcel Braibant, Mayor of Herpy, to help towns in the Ardennes to rebuild. In 1921 Stockport held an organ concert in the Centenary Hall to raise funds for Haybes and an article in the Stockport Express Advertiser at the time details the magnificent recital given by the visiting organist from Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Haybes is marking the centenary of its darkest days with commemorative events in 2014 and will brew a special beer to be called ‘Stockport & Haybes’. Researchers from the town are visiting Stockport this month and are keen to find out more about the fund raising event 93 ...

Last full day in Paris and it was spent by taking hours looking at so many exhibits in the Louvre, saw the Mona Lisa and found out Lady Gaga has her OWN exhibit right around the corner from the Ancient Egyptian & Medieval collection! We walked through the glorious Luxembourg Gardens, basked in the grace that is the Notre Dame Cathedral, Sacré Cœur Church, and ended our night with an authentic French meal that was SUPERB! I need time to soak this weekend in.

Her grandmother wants to get over there soonest so she can drink wine with her granddaughter. (Quelle surprise!)
