A compassionate physician and friend of my parents died recently. It was a friendship which provoked supper table discussion about the hardships of Chinese and other Asian peoples. I remember her gentle voice. On December 17, 2014 Betty Chen M.D. of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Northbrook, Illinois went to heaven. She was born in Northern China and emigrated to the United States in 1948 after graduating from Mukden Medical College and an internship at Nanking Central Hospital in Nanking China. With the help of Cardinal Paul Yu-Bin she became acquainted with Monsignor Peter Meegan who, with his brothers and Catholic Charities of Chicago she continued her medical education at Northwestern University. She completed an internship at Wesley Hospital in 1951, completed her residency the chief resident at Cook County in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1954 became licensed as a Physician and Surgeon in 1955 and was board certified as a Fellow by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1956. Mary Robbins, a married mother of two, reportedly wrestled her competitors to the ground before fatally wounding them with a sharpened Phillips head screwdriver. The victim's names have not yet been released, but are said to include a sociology student at Northwestern University, a chemistry teacher at at local high school and a young pregnant woman buying a system for her brother. Robbins fled the scene and was apprehended at home hours later after police identified her license plates on the store's surveillance camera. Missing Indian American student's body found in US harbour Indo-Asian News Service | Updated: September 29, 2012 11:06 IST Chicago: The death of an Indian American student, whose body was found in Wilmette harbour near the Northwestern University's suburban Chicago campus, has been ruled as a result of an accidental drowning. However, the Cook County medical examiner's office had no additional information about the circumstances surrounding Harsha Maddula's death, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Mr Maddula's family made a statement on Friday morning that they do not believe their son killed himself or that his disappearance was related to a rare form of diabetes that he had, CBS News reported. "There is no reason to believe that Harsha was suicidal or that this had anything to do with his diabetic condition," family spokesperson and friend Padma Sonti was quoted as saying. Jimenez is currently working with the Institute for Latino Progress (IPL), as Case Manager for the Carreras en Salud (Careers in Healthcare) program. In addition, she works part-time for the Cook County (Chicago) Commissioner of the 7thDistrict, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, as an independent contractor.
