The unusual interregnum which could end in a matter of weeks from now is causing unease in the agrarian community, writes ERNEST NWOKOLO In a couple of weeks from now, specifically on February 12, two days to Valentine, sons and daughters – as well as residents of the ancient town of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, would know their fate – whether genuine love, unity, progress and trust that had eluded the populous town would once again reign supreme. Triumphal Home Coming of Ochendo. The Grand Patriot of Ibeku. By Eddie Onuzuruike. The inspirational words of the Holy Bible ring louder and louder as we ponder the dictates of Romans Chapter 13 verse 7: ‘render therefore to all their dues, tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.’ In the agrarian culture and tradition of the Ibeku people, located today in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, South East geo-political zone of Nigeria, with anthropological affiliates and Diasporans in Nsukka, Ohafia Abam and the rest of the world, when a son of the soil achieves a great feat such as leading his people successfully to a battle in war, hunting down a great and exotic animal or showing supremacy in wrestling matches, you celebrate him in many forms like Ima Nzu or Ike Aji. In today’s scientific world, the emphasis has shifted from the muscular to innovative leadership in politics and commerce, more so in rare and high achievements in s ...

SATURDAY VANGUARD, JULY 20, 2013 PAID ADVERT On Page 13, OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN, ITSEKIRI REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (IRDC), CHIEF AYIRIMI EMAMI, UWA-OYIBO-YAMI OF WARRI KINGDOM, (Alias Akulagba). KILLINGS OF TEN ITSEKIRIS AND ATTACK ON SEVEN COMMUNITIES ARE BARBARIC ACTS. I am saddened by the recent heartless and unprovoked attacks on seven Itsekiri communities which fell under the administrative purview of Itsekiri Regional Development Council (IRDC) in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State. The ugly incident of July 2, 2013 in which Itsekiri communities of Gbokoda, Eghoro, Ebrohimi, Aja-Amita, Udo, Tisun and Obaghoro were razed and over ten persons killed, was not only barbaric but inhuman and uncivilized. I am particularly touched by the unwarranted action because I had long thought that Warri and its coastal communities could not be returned to the dark days where innocent, harmless and defenseless citizens, especially the Itsekiris, would be willfully slaughtered and rendered homeless b ...

“He forced a key holder into my private part”: 23-year-old virgin narrates how she was raped by brother’s friend When other young ladies would be flaunting the new additions to their wardrobe this yuletide, 23-year-old Ngozi Okoye will be sad and bemoaning the evil fate that befell her just days before Christmas. Shapely Ngozi, a native of Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, who had vowed to go into marriage as a virgin, was brutally raped by her elder brother’s best friend on December 16, 2013, leaving her shattered into a 1000 pieces like the windshield of a car, her virgin blood spilled and highly treasured virtue forever taken by a scoundrel. Even more pathetic is the fact that she escaped the mayhem of Boko Haram in troubled Bauchi State, only to be savaged by the foul, filthy hands and mind of a son-of-the-devil lurking at home, in the heart of Igboland. For her the rape experience is like a case of running from frying pan into fire. Ngozi’s taste of *** on earth be ...

Notwithstanding all, Governor Theodore ...
