Unfortunately, Cedar Cliff comes up short vs. Lower Dauphin 28-21, due in large part to several mistakes, but they will rebound. Everyone else on my list came up winners this weekend, though some were not so easy. I said it before and I'll say it again. If Joe Paterno was told Sandusky was abusing one of JoePa's grandchildren, he would have done a tad more than sleep on it. PSU football should have never been punished by the NCAA, but to turn a blind eye to evil is to be an accomplice to it, and that is exactly what Paterno, Probst, KCSD, and the PSU administration did. I bleed blue and white. My heart goes with the Nittany Lions every time they take the field, and when others were saying Joe was too old to coach, I said he was still the greatest coach ever and won the right to step away whenever he chose to and did a lot of good for Penn St, the boys who became men under his tutelage, State College, and the whole region. Does his good outweigh the bad? Not in my eyes.

Let's see what my teams are up to this weekend: BSU v. UNLV We're matched up against a sometimes decent team that's having an abysmal year. This should be really one-sided. GA Tech v. Boston College It's Homecoming and BC is really bad this year, so this should be a thrashing. Penn St. v. Iowa After a rough start, the Nittany Lions are looking like a real football team again. However, Iowa is doing pretty well too, having beaten some good teams. This should be an exciting game that could go either way, though I worry that Iowa might have the edge even if it weren't a home game for them. If I watch one game, it'll be this one. Wyoming v. Fresno St. The Cowboys aren't looking very good this year except at quarterback, and Fresno is resurgent after several rough years. I fear this might be embarrassing, yet I still hope.

My Penn State Iowa story: 41 years ago, the Nittany Lions made the trip to Iowa City to play the Hawkeyes for the first time in many years. As the radio broadcaster, I was on the trip. After the team had checked in at the Holiday Inn, I was in the lobby and an elderly gentleman came up to me and asked "Has coach Paterno checked in yet?" When I told him he had the gentleman was really disappointed and said he would sure to meet him, I'm Nile Kinnick's father! Nile Kinnick, for whom the Iowa stadium is named; Heisman Trophy winner; first college athlete to be a casualty of WW2. I called Joe and he did come down to the lobby to meet and chat with Mr. Kinnick.

Yesterday was Sept. 17th. Where were you on September 17th, 1966? I was just starting my freshman year at Penn State in the Antenna/Microwave curriculum. There were about 12 of us. Next year, Joe was 8-2 and played Florida State to a 17-17 tie after trailing 17 nothing at half time. Joe always scared you early but figured it all out by the forth quarter. Joe wasn't given a forth quarter when he was fired. We know he would have won this last one if he had a full game to do his magic.

This featured Saturday ABC Channel 7 college football telecast features Penn State vs Virginia, in the Nittany Lions first away game this season. PSU has just taken a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Why do I love watching Penn State football? My mother graduated from PSU in 1936. I took her back there in 1986 for the 50th Anniversary of her graduating class. There we met two of her professors for dinner and numerous fellow classmates. As a child I met Joe Paterno in Manhattan at an Alumni Fundraiser. I had even considered college there myself, but alas my grades weren't up to snuff. Mom passed away early in 2001. Until her last days at home we always enjoyed watching these games together. I am most grateful that the Lord took her home both before 9/11 and before this years' PSU heinous scandal. But I'll still watch PSU football and cheer in her memory.
