THE MORNING VIEW. (TRANSFER GOSSIP) Manchester United have been quoted a world-record £112m for 20-year-old Paris St-Germain and Brazil centre-back Marquinhos, the man they have identified as their top defensive target, who cost £26m from Roma in 2013.(Sun) Wednesday's Daily Mirror back page United are not the team who made a £26m bid for Valencia's Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi and are more likely to move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, also 26, in the summer. (Manchester Evening News) Tottenham hope to persuade Everton to sell them Belgium winger Kevin Mirallas - who missed a penalty against West Brom on Monday - and are willing to offer Aaron Lennon, also 27, in part exchange.(Daily Mirror) But the Toffees are thought to have rejected a swap deal involving England winger Lennon. DE GEA PRICE HIGH 'Man United slap £50m price tag on David De Gea to fend off interest from Real Madrid,' it says on the Daily Express. This has confused us somewhat as we expect that the richest club in the world would quite happily spend £50m on one of the world's best goalkeepers. Also, Manchester United will struggle to command a £50m fee for De Gea if he refuses to sign the £200,000-a-week five-year contract that is apparently on the table. The Express continue: 'United have played down suggestions they could include De Gea in a swap deal with Gareth Bale. Club sources say while there is interest in Bale, Van Gaal's priority remains strengthening defence and midfield with moves for Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman.' Ever Banega was the most high-profile player excluded as Argentina confirmed their final 23-man World Cup squad. The Newell's Old Boys midfielder was cut from the provisional 26 along with Jose Sosa of Atletico Madrid and Atletico Mineiro's Nicolas Otamendi. Coach Alejandro Sabella had previous dropped Werder Bremen striker Franco Di Santo from the original 30. Lisandro Lopez of Getafe, River Plate's Gabriel Mercado and Fabian Rinaudo Catania were also cut at that stage. The big names absent from Sabella's initial squad were Tottenham's Erik Lamela and Juventus striker Carlos Tevez. Forward Lamela, 22, joined Spurs for a club-record fee of £26m from Roma last summer but has suffered a series of injuries and made just 10 starts this season. Sabella did not consider Tevez, despite his 19 goals in Serie A this season. There is also no place for Paris St-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore. World Cup: Demichelis makes Argentina's squad Central defender Martin Demichelis was named on Monday in Argentina's 23-man World Cup squad while regular reserve midfielder Ever Banega was left out. Coach Alejandro Sabella recalled Demichelis to his provisional squad last month after his title-winning season with English Premier League side Manchester City following more than two years out of the Argentina reckoning. The defender who made way for Demichelis is another veteran of the 2010 finals in South Africa, Nicolas Otamendi, who was on loan at Brazil's Atletico Mineiro and had also only recently been recalled by Sabella. Benfica winger Enzo Perez also found a place in the squad for the Brazil finals starting on June 12 but Banega, who joined Newell's Old Boys from Valencia this season, missed the cut after illness and loss of form. Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, will be looking to win their third world crown. They face Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria in Group F. SQUAD: Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Sampd ...
Demichelis in Argentina squad as trio miss out Nicolas Otamendi, Ever Banega and Jose Sosa were the three players to miss out as Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella cut his FIFA World Cup™ squad to the final 23 names. Martin Demichelis joined fellow Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta and striker Sergio Aguero in the squad as Atletico Mineiro's Otamendi was the defender to make way. Boca Juniors' Fernando Gago was selected despite fitness concerns as Banega, of Newell's Old Boys, and Atletico Madrid's Sosa were left out of a midfield selection which also features Javier Mascherano, Angel Di Maria, Lucas Biglia, Maxi Rodriguez, Ricardo Alvarez, Enzo Perez and Augusto Fernandez. Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain, Paris Saint-Germain's Ezequiel Lavezzi and Rodrigo Palacio of Inter Milan join Aguero in a fearsome strikeforce. Argentina squad: Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Monaco), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Agustin Orion (Boca Juniors). Defenders: Ezequiel Garay (Benfica), Federico Fernande ...

Recent reports had suggested that Manchester United were willing to offer Brazilian midfielder Anderson, who previously starred for Porto, as part of a deal for Mangala to give them an edge over Chelsea and Manchester City, who reportedly failed in a move for the French international in the summer. Lloris is a rare quantity -- a world-class goalkeeper who might be available for the right price. Just 23 years old, the athletic Lyon backstophas seized the starting spot for Raymond Domenech's Blues. The French will be tested against three quality attacking sides in Group A, so Lloris will have plenty of chances to prove himself on the world's biggest stage, and his success is key to French aspirations. With several large European clubs searching for a long-term solution at the vital position, a good performance will spur even more demand for the Frenchman's services, estimated to be worth a$30 million transfer. Nicolas Otamendi, D, Argentina This bulky central defender for Argentine club Velez Sarsfield is another rarity: a projected starter for a legitimate World Cup contender who still makes his living outside Europe. That the 22-year-old hasn't yet made the jump overseas is a testament to his rapid rise to the top of Argentine soccer. Otamendi made his first professional appearance less than two yea ...
Porto lost their 100 per cent record but booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League after a goalless Group A draw against Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine. Porto's point takes them to 10 points in the group and guarantees their progress after a game of few clear-cut chances which leaves the hosts with little chance of progressing. Porto's confidence was not too evident in the cagey opening exchanges, with Kiev pressing forward and forcing a free-kick within the first minute which was comfortably cleared by Nicolas Otamendi. Porto had their first chance in the ninth minute when Yevhen Khacheridi's foul on James Rodriguez led to a Joao Moutinho free-kick which was headed on by Abdoulaye Ba and blocked in the box. In a first half of few clear-cut chances, Porto almost grabbed the lead in the 35th minute when Maksym Koval tipped a Jackson Martinez header round the post after a pin-point cross by Rodriguez. Taye Taiwo fired wide for the hosts two minutes later but Porto were beginning to look more ...
Chelsea turn back to long term target in their search for a top class hit man Portuguese outfit Porto could be resigned to losing star striker Hulk, with Chelsea said to be closest to the 26-year old’s capture. The Blues see Hulk as a perfect replacement for Didier Drogba, and have been chasing the versatile striker the whole summer. However, they had been put off by Porto’s valuation for the striker, as the Portuguese Primera Liga champions were demanding any potential suitors to reach Hulk’s £78 million buy-out clause in order to sign him. However, the striker revelations earlier in the week that the time may be right for him to make a switch to either England or Spain have put Chelsea on high alert again, with Roberto di Matteo set to submit a £32 million offer for the Brazilian. Porto defender Nicolas Otamendi also seemed certain over his teammate’s departure, but was confident that the team would be able to manage fine even without the Brazil international, suggesting that there were ‘sol ...
