Former Yankees in the playoffs this year include Russell Martin, AJ Burnett, Nick Swisher, and Jason Giambi.
Russell Martin and Nick Swisher vs. the Yankees: Newsday » The Yankees made two notable free age...
Ex-Yankees in the playoffs include Nick Swisher (Indians) and A.J. Burnett and Russell Martin (Pirates). All Martin did tonight was homer twice in the wild-card game against Cincinnati. Maybe the Yankees should have prevented Martin, Swisher, and Raul Ibanez from riding the free agent train out of town last winter.
Nick Swisher and Russell Martin are both in the playoffs. Wish the Yankees could find players like them.
Nick Swisher, Jason Giambi, Russell Martin, A.J. Burnett, and Jose Molina all will play in October. Their former employer will not.
BTW Russell Martin, Nick Swisher and AJ Burnett are going to the playoffs.
"No Nick Swisher. No Russell Martin. No Curtis Granderson for April. No Alex Rodriguez for who knows how long. A declining Mark Teixeira and an aging Derek Jeter trying to return from a broken ankle. Two outfielders in Ichiro Suzuki and Brett Gardner with little power. Oh, yeah, you're also playing in the toughest media market in the sport, coming off a postseason in which you hit .075 and playing for a huge contract as an impending free agent. Enjoy the season, Mr. Cano." By David Schoenfield. Baseball should be fun to watch this year
No Granderson too? man this Yankees season isn't off to the hottest start Hughes and Granderson so with a team that has already lost A-Fraud, Swisher and Russell Martin has lost the player with the most homers in the last couple of season and the Yankees most consistent power threat to a fractured forearm...ugh! So now what we go int with Gardner and Ichiro in the outfield, unknowns due to age and health with Youk and Jeter and then you have to hope that Tex can regain his 2009 or earlier form and really take claim of this diminishing lineup while also hoping to find some production out of both the Left Field and Catchers positions with Cano being the only sure thing in the lineup. hmm what will they do?
YANKEES-Robinson Cano planted the kiss of death on the Yankees as he becomes a free agent at the end of the year. Cano is letting it be known that his next contract is all about money. Meaning get out your checkbook Mr Steinbrenner. ( just a thought, perhaps the Yankees who seem to have been holding back on contracts for its players this year, are saving their money for Cano.) The Yankees who have no leverage in the negotiations for Cano may lose their chance of re-reigning Curtis Granderson and Phil Hughes next year if Cano's negotiators stick to their $189million ceiling. Cano, 30, is in his prime is the hub of the Yankees' lineup. Alex Rodriguez who has been disgraced, is invisible, Derek Jeter turns 39 this year. Nick Swisher is gone, so are Raul Ibanez and Russell Martin. And Mark Teixeira is in a slow, steady decline. Cano is the one offensive player who is in the sweet spot of his career making him irreplaceable. Cano is a Boras client, which means their intent is to maximize the negotiating mark . ...
"The lineup has lost a good deal of thump, with players like Nick Swisher, Russell Martin, Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez deleted from last year's squad..." The reality of this is really setting in now and reading this has ruined my day!
Regina, Sara, Jessica, Jack, Darryl, & Lernard. Joe G. saying the Bronx Bombers can win 95 games & the World Series this year. Ummm, Joe, look at thé team...old pitching staff...Didnt get King Felix, can CC, Pettite, Kudora, Nova, Rivera stay healthy, no Rafael Soriano, no Andruw Jones, no Eric Chavez, no Nick Swisher, no Raul Ibanez, no Alexander Rodriguez, will Captain Deter Jeter be Jeter of last year before injury, can Tex be consistent, how good will Granderson eyes be, can Gardner stay healthy, no Russell Martin.
Russell Martin and Nick Swisher don't play for the Yankees anymore..?! ***
The New York Yankees have excercised the 2013 contract options for Robinson Cano ($15 million), Curtis Granderson ($15 million) and David Aardsma ($500,000 thousand)...but the Yankees still have big-time free agent decisions to make, with players such as Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Nick Swisher, Ichiro Suzuki, Russell Martin, Hiroki Kuroda, Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez...and gotta see what Rafael Soriano will do with the club option or buyout...so still lots to look at for the Yankees organization...NYY
New York Yankees - "No surprises here, but the Players Association has announced its full list of 137 players who filed for free agency this morning. They become eligible to negotiate with any team at 12:01 am ET on Saturday. For now, there is an exclusive negotiating window with each free agent’s former team. These are the 12 Yankees who filed. Eric Chavez, Pedro Feliciano, Freddy Garcia, Raul Ibanez, Andruw Jones, Hiroki Kuroda, Derek Lowe, Russell Martin, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Ichiro Suzuki, Nick Swisher."
Following a disappointing postseason effort in which they hit a meager .188 as a team and scored just 22 runs in nine games, the New York Yankees could be headed for a shakeup this offseason. Stars Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher all hit under .200 in the postseason, and while Cano will remain an integral part at the middle of the team's lineup, the other three guys are a different story. The team will likely let Swisher walk in free agency, and holds a $15 million option on Granderson that they could opt to pick up before dealing the 31-year-old who has become a Home Run or nothing hitter since coming to the Bronx. Rodriguez and the $114 million he is still due over the next five years isn't going anywhere, with a full no-trade clause and no interest in leaving New York (h/t Yahoo Sports). However, even with his massive contract, he could begin to see his role diminish as his skills continue to do the same. Outside of those guys, catcher Russell Martin, DH/outfielder Rau
Question for NY Yankee Fans: As far as I can see, the Yankees have 11 Free Agents... Nick Swisher; Ichiro Suzuki; Russell Martin; Raul Ibanez; Hiroki Kuroda; Mariano Rivera; Andy Pettitte; Derek Lowe; Eric Chavez; Andruw Jones and Freddy Garcia. The team has two Club options... Cano and Granderson (already say they will exercise option w/ Granderson) and Rafael Soriano has a player option. Who should they go after and make an offer and who should they let walk???
I posted this on the Yankees home page at MLB.com today. In talking with my dad today, he brought up a point that I think bears repeating: Nobody fears the Yankees anymore. Time was the Yankees conducted themselves like champions. When they won a game in walk-off manner, there wasn't all of this girls' softball mentality of tossing the helmets in the air, gathering around the person who got the hit or scored the winning run, then jumping up and down like a bunch of 8-year-old girls. Instead, they acted like they had been there before. The current group of Yanks act almost surprised that they won. They need to get some of their old swagger, that "I'm the best and you know it" attitude they once had. Rodriguez, though one of the best ever, was a mistake — he's never had a true Yankee persona. I love Nick Swisher, but face it, he has a beer softball league mentality. Cano is the best second baseman in the game, but he acts like he doesn't care. We need more players like Russell Martin, who often looks as i ...
New York Yankees payroll for 2012- $197,962,289 Alex Rodriguez not happy with $250,000,000 for ten years renegotiates 10 year deal- $275,000,000 READING THE FOLLOWING: Robinson Cano was at .075 (3 for 40) with no Home Runs, including a 29 at-bat hitless streak. Curtis Granderson 3 for 30 with 16 strikeouts, Nick Swisher .167 (5 for 30) with two RBIs and Russell Martin .161 (5 for 31) with one RBI. ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS... was that a Swiffer Sweaper I noticed today?...
Congrats to the Detroit Tigers in their 4 game sweep of the New York Yankees. The 100 million dollar portion of their lineup which includes the like of Mark Texiera, Robinson Cano, Russell Martin, Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson and of course A-Fraud Rodriguez hit a combined .147 or 28 for 190 in the playoffs.
Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers for advancing back to the World Series. Congratulations to Dan Lunetta for getting another American League ring...and hopefully bringing home another World Series ring. To my Yankees, you guys played a long, hard season. Hopefully there will be some changes next year. Frankly, Joe Girardi, Alex Rodriguez, Russell Martin, and Nick Swisher's tenures with the team are over. I will make a prediction that Joe Torre comes back. I don't care what anyone else says...the Yankees are still the greatest organization in Sports History and they will always be the greatest sports team in my heart...but for now. Let's go Detroit!
Terrible Fact and the Fun Fact season finale for this wack postseason: The Yankees have six players with at least 20 plate appearances hitting below .200 this postseason. Robinson Cano has hit .083 in eight games, including going 1-for-14 in the three games against Detroit. Curtis Granderson has hit .103 with 15 strikeouts in 29 at-bats, including six strikeouts in 10 hitless at-bats during the ALCS. Alex Rodriguez is hitting .130 with 12 strikeouts in 23 at-bats, Nick Swisher .154, Russell Martin .172. Eric Chavez, who has taken over for Rodriguez at third, has yet to have a hit. By comparison, St. Louis' pitchers have hit .214 in the playoffs.
Dear Yankee fans, You cannot blame you losing solely on Alex Rodriguez. Its getting to the point where I feel bad for the guy. Rodinson Cano .63 Batting Average 4 K's. Curtis Granderson .115 Batting Average 14 Freaking K's. Russell Martin .192 Batting Average 3K's. Nick Swisher .154 Batting Average 8K's. Leave the poor man alone so what he flirted with girls in the stand, if you were a professional baseball player so would you probably.
New York City, NY (AP) New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman announced today that he is exhuming the body of Mickey Mantle and will reactivate the Hall of Fame outfielder for the remainder of this year's playoffs. When asked how the decomposed remains of a man dead for 17 years could possibly help his team, Cashman replied 'one fifty-two', the combined playoff Batting Average of Alex Rodriguez, Russell Martin, Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher and Curtis Granderson. Mr. Mantle could not be reached for comment. (30)
Yankees line-up yesterday: Russell Martin: acquired from the Dodgers. Mark Texeira: acquired from the Angels. Eric Chavez: acquired from the A's. Ichiro Suzuki: acquired from the Mariners. Curtis Granderson: acquired from the Tigers. Nick Swisher: acquired from the White Sox. Raul Ibanez: acquired from the Phillies. Sabathia: acquired from the Brewers. Players on the field developed by the Yankees themselves: two, Jeter and Cano. Best sport ever, IMO. But the economics are ugly, ugly, ugly.
Nick Swisher and Russell Martin...that's your right fielder and catcher.gimme a break !
I'm not an A-Rod Fan BUT he is not soley responsible for Game 5 tonight ... Robinson Cano, Nick Swisher, Russell Martin and Granderson combined to go 0-for-20 in the loss. and if this keeps up .. then we deserve to sit the rest of the playoffs out .. Just Sayin..
Now, with one game in which to finally have that breakout, here are the numbers: Ichiro, .200 Batting Average, .200 on-base percentage; Robinson Cano, .111 BA, .158 OBP; Alex Rodriguez, .125 BA, .222 OBP; Nick Swisher, .133 BA, .222 OBP; Russell Martin, .214 BA, .353 OBP; and the worst offender of all, Curtis Granderson, .063 BA, .118 OBP and nine strikeouts in 16 at-bats.
“(This game) is my best baseball moment in my whole career, without a doubt,” Chavez said. “… There’s not even a close second.” From the locker right next to Chavez. “That’s probably my favorite moment in baseball so far in my career,” Russell Martin said. “Just unbelievable.” From the locker on the other side of Chavez. “You dream about stuff like that,” Nick Swisher said. “I wasn’t even the guy who hit it, and I was jumping up and down going crazy. For Raul, I could not be more happy for him, man. You gotta be pro to step up in a situation like that. Especially pinch hitting, come up against a guy like Johnson, and then to just get that one pitch — because he doesn’t give you that many pitches to hit — and then he comes up in the 12th inning, and he goes Jack City again! You can’t script something like that.”
Hiroki Kuroda struggled on the mound but received help from Nick Swisher and Russell Martin at the plate as the Yankees beat the Blue Jays to stay one game ahead of Baltimore in the American League East.
Ironically the two Yankees i love to bury (Nick Swisher and Russell Martin) hit clutch bombs this series.

Martin hits slam, Pettitte dominant for Yanks New York (AP)—Russell Martin hit a grand slam to help stop the Yankees’ struggles with the bases loaded and Andy Pettitte was dominant again at home, leading New York to a 7-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Nick Swisher hit an RBI double after Raul Ibanez was walked intentionally and the Yankees treated Rays starter James Shields to another drubbing in the Bronx. Pettitte (3-2) pitched two-hit ball for 7 1-3 innings, striking out 10 in New York’s ninth win in 12 games. Shields (6-4) was sabotaged early by the Rays’ ever-shifting defense as New York scored two unearned runs in the first thanks to an error by shortstop Elliot Johnson. The Rays made three errors in the game. The Yankees returned home from a 6-3 road trip to beat the Rays for the third time in four meetings since Tampa Bay swept a season-opening three-game series. The Rays have been in first or second in the division for most of the season despite having several key inju ...
