EX-ARSENAL STAR PARLOUR RATES LIVERPOOL’S TITLE CREDENTIALS Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes Liverpool have put forward a very strong case for this season’s Premier League title. Parlour won three league titles with the Gunners during his extensive career in north London so is well-versed to know what is required to become champions. The Reds currently sit second on the table and although Parlour believes there is a main contender in the form of Manchester City, he is of the belief that the Merseyside outfit has what it takes to end the 2013/14 campaign at the summit of the standings. "The firepower that Liverpool have got with (Luis) Suarez and (Daniel) Sturridge – these youngsters are playing a lot better as well – they're playing really well,” he told Sky Sports Football Club on Sky Sports News Radio. Today marks the 50th anniversary of historic day that The Beatles invaded the U.S. The Fab Four took a Pan Am flight from London to New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, where they were greeted by thousands of fans. Prior to the band's arrival, U.S. radio had begun to saturate the airwaves with The Beatles' music, and by January 18 of 1964, the group had scored its first hit on the Billboard Hot 100, "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Beatles historian and author Bruce Spizer tells ABC News Radio that while some people have suggested that the reason so many people turned up at JFK for the group's arrival is that promoters had promised free Beatles T-shirts to kids who made it out to the airport, he thinks the real motivating factor was simply young fans' excitement about the band. "I think it pretty much was spontaneous in the sense that the radio let them know they were coming and they were eager to see their heroes," he explains. Shortly after touching down, the band they held a now-famous pre ...

Christine McVie is officially back with Fleetwood Mac. The band’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, told ABC News Radio, "I can officially confirm that Christine McVie has rejoined Fleetwood Mac and we hope to have information regarding a potential tour with all the Macsters soon." Christine retired from Fleetwood Mac in 1998, but sat in with her old band mates during a couple of their shows in the U.K this past fall. Soon after those concerts, she told British newspaper The Guardian, "I like being with the band, the whole idea of playing music with them. I miss them all. If they were to ask me [to rejoin them] I would probably be very delighted." She originally joined the band in 1970 after marrying bassist, John McVie. Rumors about Christine rejoining the group began flying on Monday after a Fleetwood Mac fan attended a star-studded benefit concert in Maui, Hawaii, this past Saturday. According to the fan, who posted the news on the FleetwoodMac.net forum, *** Fleetwood was a surprise performer at the se ...

Federal Agencies meeting benchmark for hiring people with disabilities Ellen Kortesoja (Federal News Radio) The federal government is employing the highest percentage of people with disabilities than any time in the last 32 years. People with targeted disabilities are getting hired at the highest percentage in the last 17 years. The Office of Personnel Management announced in a news release that these historic benchmarks represent important steps toward the President's goals outlined in Executive Order 13548 - Increasing Federal Employment of Individuals with Disabilities. Ending fiscal 2012, people with disabilities made up 12% of the federal workforce. That was a 1% increase from the previous year. Of the 220,000 individuals with disabilities working in federal service, 18,000 had a targeted disability, such as blindness, deafness or an intellectual disability. In 2010, Executive Order 13548, in conjunction with other executive orders, emphasized the federal government needed to become a model for the r ...

Today's news from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.): Spying on Americans: In the wake of a federal court ruling against domestic spying by the National Security Agency, Sen. Bernie Sanders said Congress must narrow the scope of a law used to justify the bulk collection of Americans' telephone records. “I voted against the Patriot Act. We've introduced legislation to curb what the NSA is doing,” Sanders told MSNBC's Thomas Roberts. Lawmakers supporting the vast domestic surveillance databases argue that collecting phone records and emails makes the country safer. "Yeah it does," Sanders said in a report broadcast by NBC News affiliates nationwide. "But it doesn't make us a free country." NSA is 'Out of Control': The National Security Agency is "out of control and operating in an unconstitutional manner," Sen. Sanders said, according to The Nation, ABC News Radio, Vermont Public Radio and Common Dreams. "I will be working as hard as I can to pass the strongest legislation possible to end the abuses by the NSA ...
Irish actor Peter O'Toole, best known for his role as T.E. Lawrence in the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, has died at the age of 81, his agent confirms to ABC News Radio. O’Toole died “peacefully” Saturday, after having been ill “for some time,” the agent said. While a series of serious illnesses in the 1970s, partly caused by his heavy drinking, threatened to destroy O'Toole's career, he was able to recover, and made a comeback in films like The Stunt Man and My Favorite Year. Both those films earned him Academy Award nominations, two of eight he'd eventually receive in his career. In fact, he held the record for most acting nominations without a win. O’Toole was eventually honored with a lifetime achievement award at the 2003 Academy Awards ,which he graciously accepted, joking during his acceptance speech, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride, my foot." He also won three Golden Globe awards and an Emmy. O’Toole was most recently nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 2006 film Venus. .. ...

Patriot This is all 100% factual and accurate. But Obama’s Kenyan connection goes well beyond simply being related to Raila Odinga or being a member of the same Luo tribe. To be precise, and according to a special 2008 ABC News Radio report, in 2006 then Senator Barack Obama violated U.S. Federal Law (the Logan Act, which specifically forbids interference in foreign elections and government policy-making by American politicians), as well as Kenyan law, by actively campaigning for his Muslim cousin, Raila Odinga. In fact, his blatant interference was such that the Kenyan ambassador, Ogingo Ogego, made a public complaint to the U.S. State Department, and Obama was then officially asked to leave the country by the Kenyan government. But his interference didn’t stop there. According to the African Press, secret emails between Obama and Odinga on “how to rig elections, cry voter fraud if losing, and then call for riots in the streets” were also exchanged. (Available on YouTube.) Then, in December 2007, ...

Yes' Steve Howe Says Band Is Loving Playing Full Albums In Concert Yes kicked off a new North American tour leg on Saturday with a show in Paso Robles, California. As they did on their previous few treks, the band is performing three of their classic 1970s albums -- 1971's The Yes Album, 1972's Close to the Edge and 1977's Going for the One -- in their entirety at most shows on their current outing. Guitarist Steve Howe says he and his band mates have really embraced playing these full albums live. Basically, we're loving it," he tells ABC News Radio. "To me, it will pale again if we ever go back and just do a set or sets that are just songs from albums. That will seem, somehow, a little bit hard to get used to again." Howe compares performing each album to being on "a long motorway drive," noting that when "you get to the end…you have a sense of celebration that you're at the end of this journey, and those records are a journey." He adds that The Yes Album, Close to the Edge and Going for the One " ...

Thanks to Blogger Steve Light at Battlefield Back Stories for bringing this to our attention.
A special thanks to Brian Calvert from KOMO News Radio for featuring King County 2-1-1 on his show this afternoon for National 2-1-1 Day!
My mother in law is on the following boat and is not happy! Carnival Cruise Ship Stranded Near Mexico A Carnival cruise ship carrying more than 4,000 passengers and crew is stranded in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine room fire broke out this morning, representatives for the cruise line said. The fire was extinguished aboard the Carnival Triumph this morning and no injuries were reported. The ship, however, lost power and is relying on a back-up generator as it drifts 477 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas, ABC News owned station KTRK-TV in Houston reported. A tugboat has been sent to the ship’s location in the event it is needed, according to a statement from Carnival, however the crew is working to repair the engines. “If that works I believe they’re going to try to dock somewhere and repair their ship,” U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Tippets told ABC News Radio. The Carnival Triumph departed Galveston on Thursday with 3,143 guests and 1,086 crew on board for a Mexican cruise and was due ...
I apologize for posting so late on this, but here goes. R.I.P. Ed Koch. The outspoken Koch, a man of incredible wit, served three terms as mayor of New York City from January of 1978 through December of 1989. After his time in office, Koch wrote many newspaper columns and made regular appearances of various television and radio programs. Throughout the 1990s, Koch was best known for having a regular time slot on News Radio 770 AM WABC. He also served as the judge on "The Peoples Court" from 1997-1999, replacing the retired Judge Joseph Wapner. Koch became very well known in his time as mayor for refusing to reside in Gracie Mansion. May God be with you Mayor Ed. Gone, but never forgotten.
Quick question for a project I'm working on. How many dentist characters have been in film or television? So far I have Steve Martin in "Little Shop of Horrors", Andy *** in "News Radio", The Painless Polack in "M*A*S*H", Peter Bonerz in "The Bob Newhart Show" and Jerry Paris in "The *** Van *** Show." Who am I missing?
I'm guest hosting for Brian Kilmeade on Fox News Radio tomorrow 9A-noon. He's at the superbowl. I think I got the better of the deal.
had a nice night out after work. went to see Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall/News Radio). hilarious (and filthy) set. very fan friendly guy. hung around after the show, chatting with fans and signing autographs.
So today I realized that News Radio is basically Murphy Brown, with the focus on Miles instead of Murphy.
and hilarious kind of validation of The Simpsons during that show's Glory Days (and it's almost impossible now to recall what a breakthrough The Simpsons was in the early to mid-1990s). I wasn't a big fan of News Radio since I felt that Phil's greatest talents were as a peerless utility player (the reason he was so well suited to SNL, and also the reason that 95 percent of the former cast goes on to make abysmal movies in formats that can never utilize their abilities), and since I didn't care to see him used in a standard sitcom format, but when I would very occasionally tune in there were still those moments sprinkled throughout the shows. The day Phil died was a horrible, horrible day--the only time in my life that I've felt so personally impacted by the death of someone that I didn't personally know. I miss Phil Hartman so much, even almost 15 years later, and he holds a very special place in my own personal Comedy Pantheon--there will never be another like him. Always "The Master". --Jeff Krause
Hi, I'm the voice of Phil Hartman playing in your head. You might remember me from such shows as The Simpsons and News Radio.

WIBW News Radio The search for a man wanted in connected to the Thursday night shooting death of a man in Mayetta, continues. Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says 22-year-old Lloyd Wabaunsee is considered extremely dangerous. Authorities say the reasons they believe he may be dangerous is because he is armed, wanted in connection for the shooting, and he is known for idolizing David Tiscareno, the man who shot and killed two Topeka Police Officers last month. Shawnee County Sheriff Herman T. Jones says when dealing with someone like this, officer safety is key. “We’re going to use officer safety. We’re going to also protect the individuals rights because nothing is for certain. This individual is not guilty of anything, so we always have to be conscientious of those types of elements when we’re dealing with the individual. The most important thing is officer safety as well as public safety.” Wabaunsee, is described as a Native American Male, 5'9", weighing 180 lbs, and may ...

Did you read his first book? Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor covered the seven deadly sins with his first book and we now learn he will be writing about ghosts for his next book. Taylor tells ABC News Radio is almost done with the book. "I'm about 15-20,000 words from being finished," Taylor said. "Book two should be turned in the next few months and hopefully get out by summer." He also explained what the book's topic will be. "The working title is A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven, and it's basically my experiences with ghosts, which I know is going to freak a lot of people out," he explains. "It's just about the things I've seen, the places I've lived, telling some of my friend's stories, because it seems like everyone either has a ghost story or desperately wants one."

Move Over McGraw: Jason Aldean Wants to Try Acting OK, it's not like Jason Aldean is gonna hang up his cowboy hat and microphone, but . . . "I may dabble in some things here and there. Movies or whatever maybe here and there," Jason tells ABC News Radio, "but music will always kinda be my main focus." Tim McGraw, Trace Adkins, Carrie Underwood and Kix Brooks have all tried the big screen, and Miranda Lambert had a turn on one of her favorite TV crime dramas. Jason says he just wants to give it a try. "It's one of those things where if I do a movie, I don't even know if I'm any good. So, I may do one and it *** and I'm a horrible actor, and I'll never do another one. We'll see," he said. "But you'll probably see me dabbling in some stuff like that, I think, in the future."

News Radio hoaxers 'gutted' over royal prank Two Sydney radio presenters say they are devastated, heartbroken and sorry if they unwittingly had any part in the suicide of a London nurse duped by their royal prank gone wrong. "If we played any involvement in her death, then we're very sorry for that. And time will only tell," said tearful 2Day FM presenter Mel Greig. "We're incredibly sorry for the harm that we may have helped contribute (to)," said Michael Christian, adding he felt "gutted, shattered and heartbroken". The pair told the Seven Network's Today Tonight program there was no malice in their prank last week, when they posed as the Queen and Prince Charles in a telephone call to London's King Edward VII Hospital and obtained private information about the condition of the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, a 46-year-old mother of two, is believed to have taken her own life on Friday, three days after transferring the call to another nurse who divulged news about the duchess. I moved on Monday afternoon to my friends Tish and Scott's apartment on West 19th Street. They live on the 15th floor. We lost power that evening as the storm was making landfall, and we eventually lost running water, too, because they need power to pump it to the holding tanks atop their building. But they were well stocked with drinking water, foodstuffs, candles, batteries, and even waterless cleaning supplies. I've been camping out on their sofa ever since. Yesterday, we walked down to my place on West Street, below Christopher, to inspect the damage.
