Pakistan have named paceman Sohail Khan in their final squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The 30-year-old seamer has only played five one-day internationals for Pakistan, the last of which came against Zimbabwe in 2011. The Sydney Cricket Ground | Rugby League The SCG has hosted over 1,100 top-level premiership Rugby League games – more than any other ground. Between 1913 and 1987, the NSWRFL Premiership Final was always played at the SCG, unless circumstances dictated otherwise. Due to the ground's historical significance to Rugby League, it is often used for special heritage matches for National Rugby League club and representative matches. Rugby League football was first played at the SCG on 22 June 1911 between Australia and New Zealand. The ground was first used by the New South Wales Rugby Football League in 1913. At this time the Trust only gave players access to dressing sheds in the Sheridan Stand and did not allow use of the rooms in the Member's Stand. This rule was relaxed in 1918. The 1915 NSWRFL season's first round match between defending premiers Eastern Suburbs and Glebe was played in front of a record crowd of 13,000. England overpowered a weary Australia to end their disappointing autumn campaign on a high and ease the pressure on head coach Stuart Lancaster. Two tries from Ben Morgan and 16 points from the boot of George Ford were the reward for overwhelming scrum supremacy and a far more pragmatic display. After defeats early in the month by New Zealand and South Africa, this was a precious southern-hemisphere scalp for England with the World Cup just eight games away. Australia had more daring and dash with ball in hand, but it is now six defeats in seven Tests for the Wallabies and it will be England with the clear advantage when the two sides meet again in the group stages next year. With skipper Chris Robshaw having his best game of the series, Courtney Lawes and Brad Barritt outstanding in defence and Ford controlling territory with a solid kicking display, Lancaster's men were able to keep a spirited Australia fightback at bay and retain the Cook Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan COUNTRY Bangladesh A talented left-hand batsman and left-arm spinner, Shakib Al Hasan is unarguably the best cricketer that Bangladesh have ever had. As a bowler, he is accurate, consistent, and canny; and his aggression and a wide range of strokes are the keys to his batting. Even more importantly, he has self-belief an excellent temperament, unflustered by the big occasion and ready to do battle against the top teams. The best of his ability and temperament were on display in his first Test as captain, against a weakened West Indies side in Grenada, when Shakib took eight wickets and scored an unbeaten 96 in a tense but successful fourth- innings run-chase of 215, leading Bangladesh to their first overseas series victory. In only his fourth Test as captain, Shakib scored 87 and 100 - his maiden Test century - in a losing cause against New Zealand in Hamilton, performances that offered further proof of his skill and his ability to handle pressure. And the same opponents in 2008, Shakib ha ...

Only Sachin Tendulkar is ahead with 14.- He has the fastest ton for India in ODIs — coming off only 52 balls against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.- He has a Test ton in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.- He has won the ICC World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup.- He has been named Man of the Tournament in an ICC World T20.- He was named the ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2012.- He has won the Arjuna Award in 2013.- He is the fastest to get to 20 ODI tons.- He has scored five fifty-plus scores in a row in ODIs, not once but on two occasions.
Misbah: "It's really an honour for me to lead this side, the way everybody played. Every individual performed and I'm really happy about that. I can't describe my feeling. We were working really hard and playing good cricket but not winning, we just ensured that we would keep on doing the basics. It hurt us the way we lost the [ODI] series and we were determined to come back and it's been remarkable for our side. It's really good to have a youngster like [Yasir]. Playing a side like Australia, for the first time, he's got really good temperament, and in the coming future he can really deliver for us. The way Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shehzad and Asad Shafiq have batted, and Sarfraz is really a find. These guys are going to play for the next 7-8 years and we have a side for the future. Everybody is in form [ahead of the New Zealand series], everyone is full of confidence, and after that the World Cup." In 1983, Malaysia introduced an international invitational tournament. Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, initially a biennial event, is being held annually since 1998. It is the oldest surviving as well as the most prestigious invitational international hockey tournament. All the major hockey nations have figured though the Asian countries are the more frequent visitors. Bolstered by the success of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, Malaysia, in 2011, introduced an international tournament for the juniors on similar lines. Sultan of Johor Cup would see its fourth edition pushed off in Johor Bahru on Oct 12. The participating teams are Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Australia, New Zealand and England. The Pakistan under ...

Go you EAGLES! The Australian selectors and head coach Tim Sheens today added four Sea Eagles players to the train on squad for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament and Prime Minister’s XIII match against Papua New Guinea. Sea Eagles Anthony Watmough, Brenton Lawrence, Brett Stewart and Daly Cherry-Evans have been included in the side, which will be trimmed down ahead of the Four Nations after the Grand Final. Brenton Lawrence earns a call up for his first national squad after another stellar season for the Club in which he was voted Best and Fairest and Clubman of the year at the recent end of season awards. There were deserved recalls for Watmough and Stewart who both missed last years World Cup through injury, while Daly Cherry-Evans retains his spot in Tim Sheens side to take on Samoa, England and New Zealand.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has come out in support of a TV replay challenge system today at Manchester’s Soccerex. The system would be similar to the NFL’s challenge system and could be trialed as early as 2015 at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand. Blatter, who also unsurprisingly...

Graeme Swann believes England have 'no chance' of winning next year's World Cup in New Zealand
Penney Ready August 30, 2014 Kirk Penney is the sole playing survivor from the Tall Blacks historic 4th place finish at the 2002 FIBA World Cup, a run that captured the imagination of the basketball world and the entire country here in New Zealand. He could therefore be forgiven as the elder statesman in the current World Cup roster if he was to be in reflective mood, but there is plenty of gas left in the tank of this premier shooting guard. Penney has arrived in Spain with his team mates after a seven week build up that has the team primed for their opener against Turkey on Sunday morning NZT. “This might be the best tour I have ever been on. Early on we had maybe lesser talented opponents but had to fight to win, then we went up a level to Europe and tested ourselves against better opposition and here we are now at the big show where we have to take a step up in every moment. We have been in Spain now for 5 or 6 days which is crucial, it is great. We are in the time zone, feeling good. I am hoping th ...
Women’s World Cup gears up for Super Saturday with pressure on New Zealand | Paul Rees via
The Irish women's rugby team are being tipped as possible World Cup winners after their historic victory over New Zealand yesterday. Mark Simpson reports on how women's rugby is one of the fastest growing sports here.
Born in Delhi, Virat Kohli shot into prominence as the under 19 skipper who led India to victory at the 2008 World Cup held in Malaysia. That accolade gained him instant recognition and made him an overnight teen sensation. Soon he made his ODI debut for India in Sri Lanka in August 2008 when he was thrust into the opener's role as both Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar were ruled out due to injuries. He played two important knocks - 37 in the 2nd ODI and 54 in the 4th - both of which resulted in India winning, thereby enabling them to win the series as well. After such an impressive showing, he was slightly unlucky to remain on the bench when England visited India in December 2008, but since Tendulkar and Sehwag had returned and the middle-order was strong and packed, Kohli did not make the starting eleven. Kohli, however, was not disappointed and he went back to the domestic scene and continued to plunder attacks playing for Delhi. When India went to Australia to compete in the 2009 Emerging Players ...
The Netherlands right-back is set to replace Arsenal-bound Mathieu Debuchy at St James' Park, and will follow hot on the heels of Montpellier's Remy Cabella who signed on Sunday Netherlands defender Daryl Janmaat will fly into Tyneside on Tuesday to undergo a medical with Newcastle United. The 24-year-old will replace Mathieu Debuchy at right-back for the Magpies, meaning the Frenchman can complete his move to Arsenal. Janmaat, who is set to sign a six-year deal at St James' Park, will become the club's fifth signing of the summer - although he is unlikely to make their pre-season trip to New Zealand given he has only just returned to Europe following his participation in the World Cup Finals. After initially seeing their first bid rejected last week, Newcastle agreed a deal worth around €8 million with Feyenoord at the second time of asking. Janmaat should become the club's second signing in 48 hours after Remy Cabella joined from Montpellier for around €15m on Sunday. As Goal revealed earlier that d ...
Daryl Janmaat has arrived in Newcastle and will undergo his medical at St James' Park on Tuesday. The 24-year-old Netherlands defender is expected to sign for the Magpies, who have already agreed a deal with Feyenoord - although details of the transfer fee have yet to be disclosed. And if Janmaat puts pen to paper in Newcastle, the signing will allow Mathieu Debuchy to move to Arsenal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to buy the France right-back but Newcastle are holding firm until their replacement signs on the dotted line. Should Janmaat join Newcastle, he will not be heading to New Zealand later this week for the club’s pre-season tour, as he will be taking a well-earned break following his participation at the recent World Cup Finals in Brazil. Meanwhile, manager Alan Pardew is also hoping to secure Monaco striker Emmanuel Riviere for a reported fee of £6m.
Exclusive: Joe Schmidt lines up Simon Easterby as John Plumtree's replacement Simon Easterby SIMON EASTERBY is in line to take over as Ireland's forwards coach as Joe Schmidt looks to replace John Plumtree, who has returned to New Zealand. The 65-times-capped former Ireland international is understood to be close to agreeing a deal that would see him take up the role before the November Tests. It is not known if Easterby will combine his new role with his current job as head coach of the Scarlets, but given Schmidt's other assistant Les Kiss is taking a temporary posting as director of rugby at Ulster, it is likely he will want Easterby's undivided attention as preparations for next year's World Cup intensify. Plumtree's departure after one season came as a shock to the management team and players, as he opted to go home to take up a position with the Hurricanes Super Rugby franchise. COMPLETION Schmidt travelled to New Zealand after the completion of the series win over the Pumas and had been expected to ...
PEOPLE OF BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA and the global diaspora of Bosnians around the world. PLEASE READ THIS UPDATE BEFORE SENDING ME ANY MESSAGES!!! *I AM NOT THE REFEREE FROM New ZealanD* This is a polite, open message to ALL BOSNIANS, both in BiH and around the world, who have been sending me messages about the Bosnia Herzegovina football team being eliminated by Nigeria in the World Cup. I share the same name as the referee for that game. He is from New Zealand, but I am from England. I WILL REPEAT THIS AGAIN. I am NOT THE REFEREE who disallowed Edin Dzeko's perfectly legitimate goal. By a terrible coincidence I am actually a great admirer of both Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Bosnian people. I have been to this wonderfully hospitable, heart-shaped land a few times, travelled all over and met some truly wonderful people. BiH is truly in my heart and ALWAYS will be. The football team's cruel loss to Nigeria has devastated me as much as any Bosnian football fan. I have been following Bosnia's football team all the ...
Proteas SA must get Philander firing 2014-06-27 12:18 Rob Houwing, Sport24 chief writer Cape Town – The Proteas need to waste little time getting Vernon Philander, a staple member of their seam attack, into his bowling groove for the two-Test series in Sri Lanka. The Cape Cobras all-rounder, who turned 29 earlier this week, has a big disadvantage against regular scalp-hunting colleagues Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel in that he will have had almost four months of inactivity by the time the tour-proper begins with the three-match one-day international portion next Sunday. Fortunately he is part of the ODI squad – leaving our shores this weekend – so there are dual reasons for involving him as quickly as possible. One is that, with the 2015 World Cup in mind, he deserves further opportunities to try to nail down a regular spot in the limited-overs mix: Philander has earned 13 caps at ODI level, yet spread over a period of some six years between 2007 and 2013. But the Proteas would be well advised to simu ...
Media hail All Blacks' trouncing of England 22 June 2014, 10:06 New Zealand rugby writers hailed the All Blacks' record-equalling performance to trounce England in the third test on Saturday, seeing it as a set-back for England's World Cup hopes. The "muscularity" of the All Blacks forwards was given as much credit as the flair of the backs who scored all five tries and ran England ragged, particularly in the first half. "As good as it gets" said Fairfax Media, echoing the thoughts of All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, while the Herald on Sunday praised the "well-oiled All Black machine". The 36-13 victory in Hamilton sealed a clean sweep for the All Blacks in the three-test series and saw them equal the world record of 17 consecutive wins. The scorelines in the first two tests were much closer – 20-15 in Auckland and 28-27 in Dunedin – but England acknowledged they never realistically threatened to upset the world champions. The All Blacks "have a great blend of athletic talent and ability, skill-set, ex ...
This victory brings confidence – Odemwingie CUIABA (AFP) – Bosnia-Hercegovina’s maiden appearance at a World Cup Finals ended in disappointment as Peter Odemwingie’s goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat by African champions Nigeria in Cuiaba and ensured they could not qualify for the second round. Nigeria’s win, their first at a World Cup Finals since 1998, leaves them as favourites to join Argentina in the second round. Argentina are on six points after beating Iran 1-0 earlier on Saturday to leave the Iranians on a point while the Nigerians are on four points. Nigeria play Argentina in their final group game on Thursday — the Africans have lost all three times they have previously played the South American side in the group stages, losing 1-0 on the last occasion in 2010. Odemwingie, who has had his fair share of run ins with national coach Stephen Keshi, said the team had been painfully aware of the hiatus between wins. “We were aware of the 16 year gap with no win for the country,” said ...
New Zealand v England: Stuart Lancaster's side are still in a good place for the World Cup, despite this mauling
England Rugby Union Team are becoming the nearly men of the International Circuit - Two years in a row we have just missed out on the Six Nations the last by points difference, we have lost to New Zealand and pushed them right to the edge on so many occassions. In order for us to shake that tag, Stuart Lancaster has to deliver three Test Victories in the Autumn Internationals, the Six Nations Title and at least get to the final of the World Cup especially as the tournament is on Home Soil.

Proud moment for Fiji soccer OUT of the 209 nations affiliated with FIFA, Fiji is one of the lucky 24 to compete in the 2015 FIFA under-20 World Cup to be played from May 30 to June 20 in New Zealand. That's how big this is — an achievement that many Fijians including others will remember for some time. There were tears of joy when Fiji defeated Solomon Islands 2-1 in the crunch decider on Saturday night. The realisation that life wouldn't be the same for them now, they have eventually become the bunch of finest football players that Fiji has ever produced. Even coach Ravinesh Kumar couldn't hold the emotion. For him, to coach this team, which became the first-ever national side to qualify for the World Cup, without doubt is the pinnacle of his career. Kumar struggled to stamp his mark in the domestic competition with Lautoka, and this achievement with the Vodafone Fiji U20 puts him among the best mentors we have. Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel was on his feet a number of times to prot ...

Day of drama as FIFA U-20 World Cup chase heats up The race for Oceania’s FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifying spot took a dramatic turn at ANZ Stadium in Suva, Fiji, today after host nation Fiji downed title challengers New Caledonia 2-0. The victory handed Fiji a second consecutive win and pole position in a competition that looks set to go to the wire. But while the hosts were celebrating top spot the plaudits belonged to minnows American Samoa who claimed their first ever point in an OFC U-20 Championship after a thrilling 1-1 draw with Papua New Guinea. The draw ended a 16 year losing streak for American Samoa that saw them score just twice and concede 67 times in just seven matches. It also saw another milestone set with the Rupeni Luvu-coached side grabbing a defensive best record of 103 minutes without conceding a goal. The record stretches from their scoreless second half of their opening match with Fiji until Papua New Guinea’s Frederick Simongi netted a 58th minute second half equaliser. But whil ...
Nabenia key member of Under 19 football team Ba’s Samuela Nabenia has been tagged as one of the players who will be key for the Vodafone Fiji Under-19 football side at the World Cup play-offs starting in Suva tomorrow. Nabenia, who is the younger brother of former Ba rep Malakai Tiwa, is in the final 20-member squad. National coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti says Nabenia, who played for Ba in the OFC Champions League, is destined for great things in the sport. “Nabenia missed the cut in last year’s squad. But this year he has been fantastic, he was probably one of our best players during the New Zealand tour. He showed potential he has, so quick and so sharp and never stops working for the entire 90 minutes. So we are very pleased with him.” The tournament gets underway with Fiji clashing with American Samoa clash at 2.30pm at the ANZ Stadium. Vanuatu meets New Caledonia at 5pm, before the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea clash at 7.30pm. You can catch live commentaries of Fiji’s games ...
Nepal have been officially relegated to ICC World Cricket League Division-III. General Secretary of Cricket Association of Nepal Ashok Nath Pyakurel confirmed the demotion. “We received a letter from the ICC on Monday with the list of Division- III participating nations,” said Pyakurel. The list includes Nepal, USA, Bermuda and Uganda along with top two teams from Division-IV. “The ICC has not decided the venue yet but said the tournament will be held in the last quarter of the year,” said Pyakurel. Nepal had finished ninth in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers earlier this year in New Zealand and the fate was uncertain as the ICC had not defined the criteria except for the top two who qualified for the 2015 ICC World Cup. — HNS

Bafana Bafana and the SA Football Association (Safa) are facing a major crisis following the withdrawal of players from the squad to face Australia and New Zealand in friendly international games next week. “I can't give any details right now,” Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said on Monday. “We are trying to solve the problem and we'll be in a position to give details of the situation at a media conference at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday morning.” The exodus of players from glamour clubs Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, in particular, threatens to leave Bafana with a disconcerting mountain to climb in Sydney next Monday. Australia intended giving their full-scale squad a run-out before next month's World Cup tournament in Brazil. Asked if the Bafana squad would be training at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, a clearly disturbed Igesund said he could not conduct a training session without any players. An official connected to the Bafana squad, who asked not to be named, said: “At this stage, we have more ...

This is truth: Did u guys remember India lost to South Africa and New Zealand without even a single win. At that time everyone was saying Dhoni should be removed from captainship and Suresh Raina was not able to make runs as well people said Raina should be removed. Now, India is winning consecutively and is the 1st team to enter Semis. People now say that Dhoni should be the captain in 2015 World Cup as well and Suresh Raina is the backbone of Indian team..
South Africa is the 2nd Team after India who Qualified to T20 World Cup Semi Final. Moreover, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan & New Zealand are still alive in the tournament to join India & South Africa.
New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, en route to his 45-ball 65 that helped the Kiwis seal the deal against the Netherlands in their chase of 152 in the ongoing T20 World Cup, became the first batsman in T20 internationals to reach the milestone of 2000 runs. He now has 2044 runs. Mahela Jayawardene, with 1444 runs, is a distant second. This 32-year-old right-handed bastman, who is known for his hard hitting skills, has always been remarkably consistent in the shortest format of the game, which is in stark contrast to his performances in ODIs and Tests. It has to be noted, though, that ever since shunning the wicket-keeping duty and becoming the national captain recently, he has shown a great improvement in the other formats, too. McCullum, who has a career strike-rate of 136.26, reached this milestone in 67 matches at an impressive average of 36.50. Not only this, he has also hit the most number of fours (192) and sixes (85) in T20 internationals, besides being the first and only cricketer to hit two ce ...
The first big problem have is Kabir Khan can't control our team. Selector Asti Gul pick his own brothers Karem and Aftab some other poeple bring their freind to the team. Kabir Khan can't control this, because he's from Pakistan and this is normal in Pakistan. Second thing is Kabir Khan don't have discipline in his coaching you could tell in t20 World Cup. In every game we see 2-3 changes and also in line up one day one player was opening the next game he was coming at number 8 . That's why I am always saying we need a Australian,English,South African or New Zealand coach. Why Becuase these countries have discipline on everything and also they would never let Asti Gul to select his brothers or other poeple bring their friend to the team.ACB Listen to the fans we all saying the same thing. Sack Kabir Khan and bring a coach from those countries. One thing I agree with ACB that's good coach is a good coach. Most good coaches never been good international player in every sport.
T20 World Cup, South Africa v/s New Zealand, NZ need 7 runs to win with 6 balls to go & with 5 wickets in hand. Ross Taylor is batting on 62. Dale Steyn to ball the last over & guess what.SA won by 3 runs !!! What an over.gave 3 runs & took 3 wickets.the very best of competitive sporting action.

NFF Expect Garba’s Success General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Musa Amadu, has backed new national under-20 team coach Manu Garba to succeed and replicate the success he had at Under-17 level. In a recent chat with Brilafm, Amadu said a tough challenge awaited the coach ahead of the qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal next year. He however does back the Under-20 side to reach the heights that are expected by the NFF. "The coach and the crew are facing an uphill task, they have to start from the scratch as far as building a good U-20 side is concerned,” he told Brilafm. “The coach has a pedigree at the U-17 level and Nigerians will expect that he will provide the same type of winning mentality that he did at U-17 level. “I am confident and the Federation is confident that we have chosen the coach that will make Nigerians proud by qualifying the team for the African Youth Championship in Senegal and then of course the World Cup in New Zealand." Amadu added ...

West Indies v England, 1st ODI, Antigua West Indies power and spin will test England : This is an odd one-day series, squeezed in before the World Twenty20 to comply with FTP requirements (the Tests are held next year), but it is possible to see value in the contests for both sides - not least because there is a 50-over World Cup in a year. England's recent travails need little repeating, and this brief tour is a chance for bonding and revival ahead of Bangladesh, while West Indies can look to build on the relative success of a shared series in New Zealand when the odds were stacked against them. Both teams have said they will approach the matches as one-day internationals, rather than elongated practice for the Twenty20s - a three-match T20 series follows in Barbados - but that is perhaps slightly truer of West Indies than England. The hosts can have the flexibility of picking their bespoke squads, which includes putting the captaincy in Dwayne Bravo's hands rather than Darren Sammy's, but England have e ...
Lawal Lauds Manu’s Promotion Former Nigeria international Garba Lawal has applauded the decision to move FIFA under-17 World Cup-winning coach, Manu Garba to the national U20 team. Garba guided the Golden Eaglets through a dominant campaign in the UAE last year and now has the tough task of replicating that feat with the Flying Eagles in New Zealand in 2015. Lawal, who was recently appointed as the new general manager of Kaduna United and serves in the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee, believes they made the correct choice in handing the U20 reins to Garba. "I want to commend the NFF on the decision to elevate Manu Garba to the Flying Eagles," the Former Super Eagles midfielder told the Daily Trust. "It is just the right thing to do. Having succeeded with the Eaglets, he should handle the U20 team. "It is also heart warming to know that some members of the victorious Eaglets have got clubs in Europe. They would be coming to the U20 with enough experience," he added.
Ian Chappell feels Virat Kohli should replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni as India’s Test captain as the incumbent is defensive and lets the game “meander along like an absent-minded professor strolling in the park.” Chappell is not the first one to call for Dhoni’s removal. Mohinder Amarnath and Martin Crowe had earlier said that it’s high time India looked beyond Dhoni. Former national selector Amarnath had said the time has come to remove Dhoni from captaincy because his defensive approach was the reason behind India’s prolonged failure on foreign soil. Crowe, on the other hand, had said Dhoni “needs to take a break at some point by not captaining the Test side for the period leading into the 2015 World Cup.” Chappell argued for Kohli’s elevation as early as possible after India’s shambolic tour of New Zealand in which the team failed to register a single victory across formats. “Dhoni is a brilliant captain in the shorter versions of the game, and a master at timing his run to the finis ...

How McCullum helped me let go Not scoring a triple-century has weighed heavy on this writer, but New Zealand's captain has helped lay that personal bogey to rest Martin Crowe February 18, 2014 Thank you, Brendon. You have capped the most incredible of weekends, the most important of summers. The majority of the words to follow will focus on the magnificence of Brendon McCullum's deeds over the last two weeks in particular, and of a period that exemplifies humanity at its best. Before I do I first need to be honest with you all about a personal development that came about as I witnessed these latest marvels. I have shared the belief that I became riddled with cancer due to my toxic suppression of negative events throughout my life. What isn't known is that one of those demons was my decision to not field against Pakistan in the semi-final of the 1992 World Cup, and to instead put my torn hamstring on ice, elevated and compressed, in an attempt to be fit for the final at the MCG, four days later. I thought ...

Martin Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, said it might help India's chances of defending the World Cup if Dhoni steps down as Test captain and hands over the reins to Virat Kohli.

Rio de Janeiro (AFP) - Brazil's first choice goalkeeper Julio Cesar on Friday announced he had finalised a loan move to Major League Soccer side Toronto. "I have signed a loan deal until the end of December," said the 34-year-old, who has not featured at all this season in England's second tier Championship with Queens Park Rangers. The veteran revealed the move on his new club's website and will now look to get match-fit ahead of his planned March 15 debut in Seattle. "I have not just come here to be able to play in the World Cup but also to discover a league and win," said the former Inter Milan shot-stopper, who has won 77 Brazilian caps. He added he already knew Toronto's New Zealand coach Ryan Nelsen, a QPR teammate last season. Julio Cesar said he had discussed his move with Brazil's technical coordinator Carlos Alberto Parreira, who indicated the MLS was "very competitive" even if not a top championship. Asked to comment on eight months out of action, save for an FA Cup tie, Julio Cesar said: "It's ...
