MEXICO QUALIFIES for World Cup Mexico's national soccer team secured a berth in the 2014 World Cup by wrapping up a victory over New Zealand Wednesday in inter-regional qualifying action. After routing the Ziwis 5-1 last week in Mexico City, the Mexicans kept up their scoring onslaught at Westpac Stadium in Wellington to grab a 4-2 away win and a 9-3 victory on aggregate. Oribe Peralta was the star once again for the Mexicans, scoring a first-half hat-trick that quickly erased all of New Zealand's hopes of an improbable comeback in the home-and-away playoff. Peralta, who also was the hero of Mexico's goal-medal-winning squads in the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2012 London Olympics, scored his goals in the 14th, 29th and 33rd minutes. In the first half, the Mexican team boasted a well-organized defense, creativity in midfield with Carlos Alberto Peña and Miguel Layun and effectiveness up front with forwards Peralta and Raul Jimenez. Peralta's first and third goals were assisted by Peña, while a pass ...

Kumar Sangakara became the second batsman for Srilanka to reach the 10, 000 run milestone but his 58 runs, only the notable score for the vistors, was not enough as his team were bundled out for just 156 in the first innings against Australia. Glen Jonson (4-63) and his felow bowlers were helped a lot by the tourists' generocity. Jonson also got himself in the proud list of top bowlers as he became the seventh for Australia to reach 200 wickets. The hosts only lost Warner so far but not before he blitzed to a half century. The young South African cricket team is billed to take on a more seasoned New Zealand team later on in the second T20 after losing the first on in East London. South Afric ...

Wellington, Aug 14 : New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams says she will not "waste energy" thinking of Nadzeya Ostapchuk after receiving the gold medal from the London Olympics when her Belarus rival returned a positive doping test.
Ostapchuk cheated, Adams gets gold - IOC Updated 5 minutes ago Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk has been stripped of her gold medal for doping. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) says it has disqualified Belarus's Nadzeya Ostapchuk from the London Olympics, and awarded her gold medal for women's shot put to New Zealander Valerie Adams. That decision means New Zealand has won six gold medals, two silver and five bronze. Adams told the BBC that the decision was "encouraging for those athletes like myself who are proud to compete cleanly ... the system works, and doping cheats are caught". Urine samples from the Belorus athlete indicated the presence of metenolone, which is classified as anabolic agent. The IOC Disciplinary Commission said on the IOC website on Monday that it had disqualified Ostapchuk, and excluded her from the London Olympics. "The IOC administration is instructed to reallocate the medals, diplomas and medallist pins to the athletes who finished behind Ms Nadzeya Ostapchuk," ...
I have nothing else to do, so here is some statistical analyses of data after looking at the data. Amongst all countries which have won at least 3 medals (this is to exclude flash in the pan countries like TOGO and include sports power houses like INDIA) in Beijing Olympics, compare their performance to date in London Olympics. Rank them according to % change in number of medals. India is doing well. 3rd most improved country amongst sport power houses. China and US do not even make it in the top 20 and are in fact behind their 2008 performance. Data is below. So again GO INDIA GO. No need to despair. If we win one more medal, we will be the most improved sports nation. Country 2008 2010 % Improvement (to date) (per year) Mexico (MEX) 3 5 16.7 Sweden (SWE) 5 7 10.0 India (IND) 3 4 8.3 Denmark (DEN) 7 9 7.1 Japan (JPN) 25 29 4.0 Romania (ROU) 8 9 3.1 New Zealand (NZL)9 10 2.8 Hungary (HUN) 10 11 2.5 Great Britain (GBR)47 48 0.5 Netherlands (NED) 16 14 -3.1

To all the people who were over the moon after India qualified for London Olympics in field Hockey, the four nation tournament showed how good we are against the Top Guns...We were last in terms of tournament rankings and we didn't have the other teams who form part of the top 6- Netherlands, Spain and fast improving New Zealand playing in this tournament... Nobbs as a coach has been excellent, but expecting a medal or a top 6 finish by this team in London Olympics is asking for too much...And also note that this was not the strongest Australian, German or British team playing in England.. Indian Hockey is Work in Process and with the way IHF and Hockey India are bickering anything can happen :(
