TONGA: Strong quake strikes off Tonga. A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck 255 kilometres (158 miles) southwest of Tonga on Friday, according to the US Geological Survey, but there were no reports of damage. The quake hit at 5:19 am (1719 GMT Thursday), and was centred 282 kilometres southwest of Tonga's capital Nuku'alofa and 171 kilometres deep. It was followed four hours later by a second powerful 6.6 tremor 84 kilometres northwest of the town and 103 kilometres deep. "A destructive tsunami was not generated based on earthquake and historical tsunami data," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said of each quake. The Matangi Tonga website said the quakes "shook homes and rattled windows" in Nuku'alofa but reported no damage. English is a West Germanic language that was first spoken in early medieval England and is now the most widely used language in the world. It is spoken as a first language by the majority populations of several sovereign states, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and a number of Caribbean nations. It is the third-most-common native language in the world, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. It is widely learned as a second language and is an official language of the European Union, many Commonwealth countries and the United Nations, as well as in many world organisations. English arose in the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of England and what is now southeast Scotland. Following the extensive influence of Great Britain and the United Kingdom from the 17th century to the mid-20th century, through the British Empire, and also of the United States since the mid-20th century, it has been widely propagated around the world, becoming the leading language of internation ...
The Simple Defense for Marriage An Appeal to Common Sense, Not Faith By Edward Pentin ROME, May 23, 2013 (Zenit.org) - The United Kingdom moved closer to being the latest nation to legislate in favor of same-sex "marriage" this week when it passed a bill allowing such ceremonies to take place in England and Wales. The bill still has to go before the House of Lords, but such legislation coming even this far would have been unthinkable less than 10 years ago. It follows the passing of similar legislation in France and New Zealand this past month, as well as in the U.S. states of Rhode Island, Delaware and Minnesota. Part of the reason for this rapid advance is the inability on the part of traditional marriage proponents to argue their case effectively in societies where personal autonomy takes precedence. And yet for Paul Gondreau, professor of Catholic theology at Providence College, Rhode Island, defending traditional marriage and opposing same-sex "marriage" is actually quite simple, and can be done with ...

ve never been a true racist but the horror of yesterday has really confused me. It's not Islam that bothers me, it's not coloured people that bothers me, it's not eastern europeans that bother me. But there is something about some of them that are frightening me. Not me personally but fear for my country and its people. I do not have the answer as to howe to sort it out but I'm not alone in thinking that immigration has gone too far. As a country in our commonwealth, why are we not as strong on our borders as they are in Australia & New Zealand. Even I can't go and move there without a job and my own financial support. There are so many lessons to be learnt and we need to start leaning now!. God bless that poor soldier and God bless his family & friends.
Queen Elizabeth II Biography Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926[a]) is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states, known as the Commonwealth realms, and their territories and dependencies, and head of the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations. She is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and, in some of her realms, carries the title of Defender of the Faith as part of her full title. On her accession on 6 February 1952, Elizabeth became Head of the Commonwealth and queen regnant of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon. From 1956 to 1992, the number of her realms varied as territories gained independence and some realms became republics. At present, in addition to the first four aforementioned countries, Elizabeth is Queen of Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda ...

WESTS Tigers coach *** Potter won't back down from his decision to bench No.1 playmaker Benji Marshall - but says he hopes he never has to do it again and wants the under-pressure star to be a Tiger for life. Potter still doesn't feel comfortable revealing the reasons behind starting last week's calamitous defeat to South Sydney with Marshall out of the starting lineup - only to say it wasn't about shaming the former New Zealand international. Marshall returns to his favoured No.6 jersey for Friday night's clash with North Queensland at Leichhardt Oval with Potter's full backing. "I can't go back on the decision can I? Yeah I stand by it,'' Potter said. "I think it was one that was done for a reason. "I hope in the long-term that it becomes something that I never have to do again. I don't want to do that again. "I know Benji Marshall is quality and I want him to be in the starting team every week.
Interesting read, based on truths. not politics. Americans, I have some bad news for you: You have the worst quality of life in the developed world -- by a wide margin. If you had any idea of how people really lived in Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand , Canada and many parts of Asia, you'd be rioting in the streets calling for a better life. In fact, the average Australian or Singaporean taxi driver has a much better standard of living than the typical American white-collar worker. I know this because I am an American, and I escaped from the prison you call home. I have lived all around the world, in wealthy countries and poor ones, and there is only one country I would never consider living in again: The United States of America. The mere thought of it fills me with dread. Consider this: you are the only people in the developed world without a single-payer health system. Everyone in Western Europe, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand has a single-payer system. If they get sick, they ...
Other than a kid trying to pull out his pump tubing (OUCH!) at practice (when the sun hits it, it looks weird hanging out of someone's shirt...) SEan had a GREAT START! Love how the rays of sunshine looks like God's spotlight on this guy- coz that exactly how Sean saw it! After rugby practice we said: Hey Sean, you know this guy played for New Zealand, in England, and now coaches at mommy's old school (Cal State Fullerton)... His jaw dropped. He replied: I gotta meet him! Then Sean just walked up, introducing himself while extending a handshake. This guy is bad and a hero to Sean. They both are fans of the same Super Rugby team- the Chiefs! This was the highlight of the year so far- and his advice to Sean was "more sports". Like footwork in tennis and soccer, etc...to help his rugby game. Awesome!
England Women name World Cup squad: England Women coach Chris Chapman has named a 24-strong squad for the Women’s Rugby League World Cup which kicks-off in July and culminates with the Women’s World Cup final at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Leeds, on Sunday July 14. The squad features nine players from Thatto Heath, six from Featherstone, five Bradford players, two from Normanton and sole representatives from Cross Fields and Coventry. England will face stiff competition from Australia, France and three-time Women’s World Cup winners New Zealand if they are to lift the trophy on home soil this year but Chapman, who took over from Steve McCormack earlier this year, believes his squad has the ability to go all the way. “We’ve had the squad training together since the start of the year and we’ve had some really good, tough sessions,” said Chapman. “There are a lot of good players who have missed out on selection for the competition but I feel the group that we have selected have a good blend ...

Chapter 1 After realising that the whole reaper thing that happened to me 10 years ago was just my mind going crazy after being ran over I decided to get on with my life, I was on the beach with a few mates and we were all playing some beach volleyball, whilst playing my eye was caught by a really attractive woman, she seemed to be in her early 20's and had lovely short black hair, if I had to say she reminded me a lot of the girl from hotel Transylvania because she seemed somewhat pale and was wondering around lost and confused, I looked to my mates and said "one second I am just going to grab a drink. I grabbed 2 bottles of coke and walked up to the girl and said "hey how's it going?" she looked back and said in a nervous way, "yeah I'm fine, just getting used to the New Zealand summer." I passed her a bottle of coke and she looked down curious as she sipped it, her eyes lit up and she took a big gulp of the coke and said "Wow! This is amazing! What is it?!" I looked at her confused and said "have you n ...

And now I'm cheering on former NZ National Prime Minister Jim Bolger for attacking financial deregulation and for reminding the US NZ Partnership Forum of consequences from Free Trade Agreements, like the recent 1,000+ deaths in a Bangladeshi clothing factory. Read the report from Audrey Young below: As a former Prime Minister and a man very firm in his views, Jim Bolger has always been a bit stroppy. But after his performance in Washington last night at a reception for the US NZ Partnership Forum, someone may be asking him to tone it down a bit. He used his speech as chairman of the NZ US Council to dwell on the Anzus rift over New Zealand's anti-nuclear laws, which was perplexing to those who wanted to celebrate and move on now the rift is over. By MATTHEW GUREWITSCH Published in NY Times: May 17, 2013   Honolulu — “The Blind Side” meets “The Great Caruso.”   In the spring of 2007, Kiri Te Kanawa, the Maori-descended diva from New Zealand, had been churning out autographs in the Met Opera Shop at Lincoln Center for more than an hour when a slip of paper was placed before her bearing a name she recognized as Polynesian. She looked up and beheld Ta’u Pupu’a (TAH-ooh Pu-PU-ah), a towering 6-foot-5, from the microscopic island kingdom of Tonga, and briefly a defensive end in the N.F.L. until a broken arch put him out of the game. Remembering his successes as a soloist in the high school choir, he was now pursuing a career in opera.   “Do you live here?” Ms. Te Kanawa began.   “Yes,” Mr. Pupu’a replied.   “What do you do?   “I’m a tenor.”   “How is it going?”   “It’s hard,” Mr. Pupu’a admitted.   On the bright side, he had lately landed leading roles like Cavaradossi (“Tosca”), the Duke of Mantu ...

Budget response 2013 This time last year my budget response read as follows; “It’s a budget that picks pennies out of the pockets of children with after-school jobs, raids the piggy banks of the elderly with prescriptions to fill, crushes the dreams of many university hopefuls and attacks those with the least power to defend themselves. Not only is the budget not brave, it is possibly the most cowardly thing I’ve seen in my life. “ Young Labour Marlborough had hoped that this years budget would be a braver one. We've been let down. New Zealand has been let down. David Shearer calls this “a blackjack budget that stacks the deck against the millions of New Zealander's who work their guts out every day trying to get ahead.” We agree. A black jack budget and a token budget. A budget lacking the courage to address tax avoidance issues and commit to a much needed Capital Gains Tax . A budget that sees more student allowance cuts and a sneaky $30m worth of cuts to Early Childhood Education. A budget ...

"Into the West" is an Academy Award-winning song, written by Fran Walsh, Howard Shore, and Annie Lennox, and performed by Lennox. The song plays during the closing credits of the 2003 film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The song was later covered by New Zealand singers Yulia Townsend and Will Martin. The song was conceived as a bittersweet Elvish lament sung by Galadriel for those who have sailed across the Sundering Sea. Several phrases from the song are taken from the last chapter of The Return of the King. The song was also translated into Quenya (Númenna) and Sindarin (Nan Annûn). ENGLISH: 'Lay down your sweet and weary head Night is falling; you have come to journey's end Sleep now and dream of the ones who came before They are calling from across a distant shore Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see all of your fears will pass away Safe in my arms, you're only sleeping What can you see on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? face book: "Network Geeks: How They Built the Internet", Brian E Carpenter, AD2013... The impact on modern society made by the Internet is immeasurable. Yet some questioned why anyone would want such a thing when the idea was first introduced. Part history, part memoir and part cultural study, Network Geeks charts the creation of the Internet and the establishment of the Internet Engineering Task Force, from the viewpoint of a self-proclaimed geek who witnessed these developments first- hand. With boundless enthusiasm and abundant humour, Brian Carpenter leads the reader on a journey from post-war Britain to post-millennium New Zealand, describing how the Internet grew into todays ubiquitous, global network, including the genesis of the World-Wide Web in the hotbeds of a particle collider at CERN. Illuminating the science and technology behind the apparent magic trick of the Internet, Network Geeks opens a window into the initially bewildering world of the Internet engineering geek. After reading this bo ...

New 'principles' for state authorized killings in Asia Basil Fernando and Bijo Francis     Prohibition of the death penalty is one of the most prominently debated subjects in the world. In the Asia-Pacific region, Australia, Cambodia, East Timor, Hong Kong, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, New Zealand, Nepal, Palau, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu have abolished capital punishment. Out of these countries, Australia, East Timor and New Zealand have ratified the Second Optional Protocol to the International Convention on Civil and Political rights, abolishing the death penalty. Countries like Brunei Darussalam, Burma, Fiji, Laos, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Tonga, though they have not abolished capital punishment, do not execute death sentences. China and Singapore ideologically defend the death sentence as a proper punishment. By Doug Batchelor The Name of God   An Amazing Fact: A man stopped at a bar in the Los Angeles airport to relax a few minutes before catching his plane. But realizing he had lost track of time, he raced out of the bar and hastily asked directions for the departing gate to Oakland. After hurrying through a maze of terminals, he handed the flight attendant his ticket and scurried onto the plane just as it was about to depart. After storing his briefcase, the weary traveler slumped into his seat and drifted off to sleep. When he awoke two hours later and examined his watch, the man wondered why the one-hour flight was taking so long. To his horror, he discovered that instead of boarding the plane for Oakland, Calif., he was on his way to Auckland, New Zealand! Because someone had confused Auckland with Oakland, that man had to endure a 22-hour round-trip flight.   Humorous things have happened because someone mispronounced a name. I have a friend who was once trying to fly from Australia to Dulles airport ...

Shamans “see” through their hearts. Shamanic tribes like the Maori of New Zealand believe that the physical world we experience is actually a projection coming from each individual heart. The Mayans and the Q’ero tribe in the Peruvian Andes have their own versions of this basic understanding. Their shamans know that self-importance, created by the ego, is dedicated to keeping the powerful heart portal closed off enough to prevent Spirit from shining through. The ego accomplishes this by shutting down the heart to the point where the portal remains closed to the spirit world. The portals pop open only when a certain amplitude is reached, so keeping it below a certain level prevents opening. What keeps amplitude low are all the familiar maladies: fear, hostility, self-importance, depression, self-doubt, cynicism, and frustration. Because of these, most people’s hearts are shut down most of the time, which feels bad in the chest and cuts off the main avenue of escape from pain and suffering — an op ...

EFKS, CCCS NZ Celebrating 50 years in New Zealand, from 1962 - 2012.
The Scramble for Africa (also the Race for Africa and Partition of Africa)[1] was the invasion, occupation, colonization, and annexation of African territory by European powers during the New Imperialism (1870–1914) period, between 1881 and 1914. Consequent to the political and economic rivalries among the European empires, in the last quarter of the 19th century, the partitioning of Africa was how the Europeans avoided warring amongst themselves over Africa.[2] The last 59 years of the 19th century saw the transition from "informal imperialism" (hegemony) by military influence and economic dominance, to the direct rule of colonies.[3] The Portuguese had been the first post-Middle Ages Europeans to firmly establish settlements, trade posts, permanent fortifications and ports of call along the coast of the African continent, from the beginning of the Age of Discovery, in the 15th century. There was little interest in, and less knowledge of, the interior for some two centuries thereafter. European explora ...

Congrats Miami Heat on advancing to the EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!
If you want to know why foreign invaders have been, for the past 2000 years, so successful in their landgrab and racial cleasing campaigns across the continent, all you need to do is look at fellow Africans who have, time and again, subverted their own homelands and aided the invaders in achieving their aims. Recently, it was Africans of Mali, due to Islamic brainwash and inferiority complex, they willingly and openly fought alongside Turkish Arabs(who now call themselves Berbers and Maghrebis) to sieze Mali and make it one of North Africa's so-called Arab Republics. Former African nations: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, and Sudan are now under Turkish Arab control as 'Arab Republics'. Far away Mauritius Island and Madagascar are now under French and East Indian control respectively. Arab-worshipping Africans gleefully hand over precious lands;they happily submit themselves to be enslaved by those who have so cleverly manipulated their minds and duped them into believing that they're all BR ...

Copied and shared from Free Choice Camping Sometimes we surprise ourselves with what we find on the internet and recently was one of those occasions when our researchers stumble upon some research which is very relevant to what we are saying here on this site and our web site . The report is titled "The Caravan and Park Industry Final Report July 2011" and the figures are very interesting. It make comparisons between 2008 and 2011 on the state of the industry. What really caught our eye was it looks into the demographics of RVers and how they have used and intend to use various camping facilities and what has effected the industry in that period, things like the GFC, increased fuel prices, natural disasters etc. One statement made was "Overall, there is little difference in visiting intention between caravan parks and holiday parks. Few will definitely be staying at minimal amenity areas or free spots in the next 2 years." NOTICE THE LAST SENTENCE! If their own research tell them this why then is the firs ...

The groundswell of momentum to stop deep water drilling is almost intoxicating. People, businesses, tribal leaders, and even the children seem to be together in their love and heart felt commitment to protect New Zealand from the horrors we went through in the Gulf. As we all know the only way to keep the disaster from these shores is to stop the drilling in deep water before it begins. There has been a series of meetings with locals and Hui assemblies where I have presented my photos and videos from our BP mess.

McConaghy MC38 Autumn Cup The McConaghy MC38 Autumn Cup held on Pittwater, Sydney, crowned John Bacon, Dark Star, as the winner this weekend. This is the second MC38 class victory for John Bacon after winning the Sevenstar MC38 Australian Championships. Saturday offered some light and shifty breezes, but this did not dampen the spirits of the five boats competing. Howard Spencer and the Menace crew brought their boat over from New Zealand to compete in the MC38 events over the winter including Hamilton Island Race Week. Menace made sure that they showed the rest that they meant business winning the first race, a fantastic result for the newest boat of the fleet. Dark Star went on to win the rest of day one's races and were the overnight leaders, however Chris Hancock's Vino kept the pressure on securing two second places and only trailing behind Dar ...

VIVE LE FRANCAIS! The French have named a Fijian and three South Africans in a new-look squad to tour New Zealand in June. A slight 'B' team feel with eight new caps. The selection of Fijian winger Noa Nakaitaci (Clermont) will raise a few eye-brows. But there are some familiar names including 2011 IRB World Player of the Year & fearless flanker, Thierry Dusautoir and world class No.8 Louis Picamoles, while the French midfield will be a threat with bulky centre, Mathieu Bastareaud and Wesley Fofana. It will be a rematch of the 2011 World Cup final between these two fierce rivals who face off in a three match test series and a one off game against the Blues at North Harbour Stadium.
