The pressure continues to mount on the New Zealand Rugby Union to take the All Blacks to Samoa, with an historic test in the Pacific Islands thought to be edging closer to reality. With Prime Minister John Key in Samoa next week, it's understood the Government is interested in making some progress towards an All Blacks visit. In election year, Key would strike a huge chord with New Zealand's large Pacific Island community if he was able to broker a fixture, or even claim some progress.. The PM's office referred all inquiries to the "rugby union". NZRU chief Steve Tew was not available to speak on the hot topic, but recently said: "The reality for us is, and I've said it often enough, we have to do what's best for New Zealand Rugby, and playing an All Blacks test match in the islands just doesn't suit our programme. Right now we can't fit one in." But after TV3 current affairs show Campbell Live took up the baton during the week, the rugby anomaly has once again come under the spotlight. And if there's one ...

Twenty-eight-year-old Bowden , has been playing rugby in England since 2010 and is relishing the opportunity of returning to Auckland where he grew up after signing with New Zealand Rugby and the Blues. "I'm really excited to be returning home along with my four-month-old baby and wife. I had opportunities to stay in the UK but coming back to be around my family and playing for the Blues is something I've always wanted to do, " Bowden said. "I've spent time playing with the Highlanders and Crusaders but playing for my hometown team has always been an ambition of mine and I'm hoping to finally fulfil that. "It was the team I grew up supporting and wanting to play for and I've taken the long way around to get to it. Today marks the anniversary of one of the crucial battles of the First World War, or to be precise, marks the exact date the campaign of Gallipoli began, a bloody conflict that would last until January 9 the following year in 1916. From a New Zealand Rugby perspective, we pay our respects to Albert Downing and Henry Dewar, two capped All Blacks who died at Gallipoli in August of 1915, five months after the first Allied troops landed on the soil of the Ottoman Empire. Some mistakenly think that legendary All Blacks captain Dave Gallaher died during Gallipoli, but he was in fact killed during the attack on Gravenstafel Spur in Belgium on October 4, 1917 towards the tail end of a conflict that would change and strengthen New Zealand and Australia relations unlike any other event. Also known as the Dardanelles Campaign or the Battle of Canakkale, Gallipoli was undertaken with the prime purpose of securing a sea passage to Russia, with the crucial goal of securing supply routes. Initially the campaign was actu ...

A frustrated Sonny Bill Williams will accept a three-match ban for a shoulder charge in last Thursday night's season opener, denying Sydney Roosters and the NRL of one of the game's biggest drawcards for the grand final replay against Manly. Roosters officials were stunned when Williams was charged with a grade-two shoulder charge over a tackle on George Burgess in the last minute of the premier's 28-8 loss to South Sydney but Fairfax Media has been told they have reluctantly decided against fighting the charge. It is understood the Roosters had considered seeking to have the charge downgraded to a grade-one offence, which still would have sidelined Williams for next Saturday's match against Parramatta and the following weekend's trip to Brisbane. I really want to write a musical about the son of a former New Zealand Rugby player who wants to become a male gymnast - the musical would be set to the music of Eurythmics. The wannabe gymnast's father would be opposed to his son's aspirations but the young man would get support from his strict physics professor who supports his dream and turns out to be a really swell guy (Bill Nye sort of guy after hours). The hopeful gymnast makes it to the Olympics, but fails to medal. This does not stop the young gymnast from dedicating himself to gymnastics despite his failure at the Olympics. Eventually the father admits that he is proud of his son's achievements and commitment. The young man is reluctant to forgive his father, but the physics professor encourages him to give his father a second chance (through song).

ABs in talks for Japan test match The New Zealand Rugby Union has confirmed it is negotiating a test against Japan in Tokyo before the All Blacks' northern hemisphere tour in November. After Japanese sports daily Sankei Sports had reported that a November 2 test between the All Blacks and Japan was set to be confirmed any day the NZRU confirmed that talks on the proposed fixture were continuing. "New Zealand Rugby and All Blacks management have been considering the value of another test this year as part of a much wider strategy focusing on the team's development heading towards 2015," chief executive Steve Tew said today. "As a result, we have been exploring an option with the Japan Rugby Football Union for the All Blacks selected for the European tour to play Japan en route to Europe. Legendary Rugby Sevens Coach Gordon Tietjens needs little introduction. Ten IRB World 7’s titles, four Commonwealth Games 7’s Gold Medals and the IRB Rugby World Cup 7’s crown in 2001, tells a little of the massive contribution that Gordon has made to the Sevens game both in New Zealand and Worldwide. Progress has been rapid in the referee ranks, since Bay of Plenty Rugby legend Glen Jackson hung up his boots in 2010 and took up the whistle. Sonny Bill Williams confirms move to Japan All Blacks and Chiefs star Sonny Bill Williams has confirmed that he will leave New Zealand Rugby and play in Japan after the Super Rugby season. Williams said that he will play for the Panasonic Wild Knights before joining an un-named NRL club. Williams did not announce which NRL side he will join after his stint in Japan but it is believed to be the Sydney Roosters. The All Black World Cup winner said that the Japanese club made him an offer that he could not refuse and the deal with the un-named NRL club was agreed to over a cup of coffee last year. Sonny Bill said that he would leave after the Chiefs' Super Rugby season and time for the start of the Japanese Top League competition which starts in September. The move out of New Zealand Rugby rules him out of the upcoming Rugby Championship. Williams said that he had only agreed a one year deal with Panasonic Wild Knights with an option for another year but did not rule out a return to New Zealand Rugby in 2014 ...
