WELLINGTON: New Zealand media is reporting that up to three of the country's former cricketers are being investigated by the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption unit for possible involvement in match or spot fixing. The New Zealand Herald newspaper reported Thursday that members of the ICC's anti-corruption and security unit have been in New Zealand over the past four months investigating the participation of New Zealanders in fixing "in more than one country." The newspaper said the findings of the investigation would likely result "in the biggest sports scandal in New Zealand's history. "New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said "it's a difficult situation. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to comment further and all inquiries have to be directed to the ICC." An ICC spokesman said "the ICC does not comment on any anti-corruption or ACSU activities taking place." In a front page story Thursday, the Herald said the ICC investigation was focused on "historic matches involving i ...

Some thoughts... in no particular order. 1. why is anyone surprised by the Black Caps collapse.. it's been happening for years... that is New Zealand Cricket. But , to say we have gone backwards etc is total rubbish. There is lots to like about this current NZ team... but they are going to fall apart on occasions... 2. Should Daniel Vettori be selected to sure up the lower order batting ? His test stats as a batsman in recent years are far more impressive than his wicket taking stats. Thoughts?

We will have to remain positive: Ashwin Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes India, after a clinical performance in Chennai, will have to remain positive in the second Test against Australia starting here Saturday. "We did well in Chennai. It was a clinical performance and I think we will go out with not thinking too much about what happened previously," he said when asked about the series against England which India lost 1-2 after winning the first Test. "We have not spoken honestly about it. It is just a result and numbers don’t go too much into head. We will have to remain positive about it inside the dressing room,” he said talking about India’s strategy to prevent a similar slide against Aussies. Ashwin was talking to reporters after the team’s practice session at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium at Uppal here. He feels that the eight-wicket win in the first Test would help the team here. “I have not seen the wicket yet. Obviously when you go there, you will have good f ...
MCC call for T20 at 2024 OlympicGames London , February 27 MCC's world cricket committee has said it would like to see Twenty20 cricket included at the2024 Olympic Games to boost take-up of the game around the world. Cricket is on the first rung of the ladder for inclusion at a future Games, having received full Olympic recognition in 2010, butwould still have to apply to be onthe programme. Now the earliest the International Cricket Council (ICC)can apply for the sport to featureat an Olympic Games is 2024. But following a two-day meetingin Auckland, the MCC world cricket committee said that any financial losses the game might suffer from the sport being included at an Olympics would be outweighed by extra exposure. "The MCC world cricket committee appreciates that a great deal of effort may be needed to lobby for the inclusionof cricket in the Olympic Games of 2024," it said in a statement. "The committee accepts that, were cricket to be played in the Olympics, there would be a short-term loss in income ...

That's the 2nd weta I have found in the last 2 days. The first one, a cave weta, I found dead outside and brought it in to show my kids - a day later I found that one of the cats (Minty?) had eaten its abdomen. Now I just found the head of a tusked weta in my hallway. From the size, it must have been huge! And from the 2 legs left with it, spiky... deliciously so.

Three to tango A look at New Zealand's potential debutants in the series against England New Zealand has used 21 players in 11 Tests over the last 12 months, with three more likely to be added to the list when the team begins the first Test against England in Dunedin next week. Coach and chief selector Mike Hesson will be forced, through a mixture of form and injury, to take a punt on several players and hope they meet the extra demands of five-day cricket. Bruce Martin Martin's selection is on the basis of consistency and longevity on the first-class circuit. Known as "Bucko", he has played 115 matches over 14 seasons, taking 314 wickets at an average of 35.96. Not bad for a man who says on his New Zealand Cricket profile that he was born with dislocated hips and had a cast down to his ankles. He credits his father with convincing him to change from pace to spin bowling. The 32-year-old debuted for Northern Districts in 1999-2000 and even made it into the New Zealand Test squad against Australia later th ...
Once again the New Zealand Cricket team have thought that a win makes them a great team and they must all go out on the *** during the week, because to get a hiding like they just got just goes to show how bad they really are. What's new here and what is wrong with wanting a New Zealander to coach New Zealand Former Black Caps assistant coach Trent Woodhill has slammed New Zealand Cricket's treatment of Ross Taylor, claiming he saw the writing on the wall last year. Woodhill was an assistant to John Wright and told the Sydney Morning Herald this week that the tide was turning against Taylor on the tour of the West Indies last year. Clearly Taylor's subsequent dumping as Black Caps captain late last year, came as no surprise to Woodhill. "During the West Indies tour I was really frustrated with the way Ross Taylor was being treated, not by anyone other than the manager and a few of the senior players who weren't giving him the support that he needed," Woodhill said. "I don't think it was ever about Ross and Brendon. It was always about management. To me, Brendon should want to captain his country and I was all for a split captaincy, but it's just the way it was done [that was the problem]. "After the World Twenty20 I closed the ...

USA news Lack of funds holding USA T20 launch back Peter Della Penna USA Cricket Association president Gladstone Dainty has cited insufficient investment to cover initial operational costs and a lack of turf wicket venues in key markets for another delay to the proposed domestic Twenty20 league. ESPNcricinfo reported last week that Cricket Holdings America LLC, the partnership headed by USACA and New Zealand Cricket to stage a Twenty20 league in the USA, has pushed back the starting date for the league from 2013 to 2014. According to Dainty, who is also the chairman of CHA LLC, the organisers did not want to rush the start of the league with partial funding. They hope for enough revenue to make up the balance so that incidences of players not getting paid in time - as in last summer's T20 All-Star exhibition match in Toronto and reportedly, in the Bangladesh Premier League last year - can be avoided. "The bottom line is that we did not get all the money to have a quality league," Dainty told ESPNcricinfo. ...

NZC media statement issued on behalf of Shane Bond BLACKCAPS Bowling Coach, Shane Bond, today responded to reports surrounding the letter he sent to New Zealand Cricket. New Zealand Cricket fans, a chance to laugh about all the pain and suffering. Andy Zaltzman at his best: On the positive side, the Kiwis have never batted better in their second innings in an away series against the Proteas. An open-top bus parade through Wellington surely awaits. Sadly for that hamster of consolation, bouncing up and down on the negative end of the statistical see-saw are several rhinoceroses of ineptitude. Only a tenth-wicket slapabout, as BJ Watling and Trent Boult added 59 in the second Test in Port Elizabeth prevented them from recording the worst-ever first-innings series performance in the history of Test cricket. Even that only lifted them into second-last place (out of 1187), averaging 8.3 per first-innings wicket in the two Tests, compared to South Africa’s 6.5 in their first ever Test series, way back in 1888-89, when a trip to that part of the cricketing universe was rather less intimidating for visiting batsmen than it is now. Given that the 1888-89 games were only retrospe ...

New Zealand Cricket apologizes to Ross Taylor over firing
New Zealand sport has had plenty of difficult times in its history (and the Vodafone Warriors have had their share it's true). So what do you make of the Ross Taylor captaincy case and New Zealand Cricket's handling of it?
We the undersigned call on New Zealand Cricket to support Ross Taylor as Captain of the New Zealand Cricket Team in all three forms of the...
Right to fix the Black Caps!!! First of all John Buchanan has to go. I could have coached a team with Warne, McGrath, Waugh, Langer Gilchrist etc to be the best. So could my cat! New Zealand Cricket kept Buchanan and let John Wright walk. What a dreadful decision (excuse the pun). Who was responsible for that decision. Whoever it was they should be looking for another job. Next player power has to go. Bunch of overpaid underachievers. It isn't the losing, it is how they lose. Just no guts and determination. Ross Taylor leads the way in getting out in a soft manner with various brain explosions. So therefore has to be sacked as captain. God knows who should replace him but has to be someone who can lead by example. Culture within team needs complete overhaul. Today a runner I coach spewed after a training session. He thanked me afterwards! If it was one over the overpaid bunch of losing Black Caps they would be off to the players association quicker than Usain Bolt! Where are some of the hard *** New Zeal ...

Second and third ODIs moved to Pallekele New Zealand Cricket (NZC) today confirmed that the second and third One Day Internationals of the Sri Lankan tour will now be played in Pallekele due to R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo being waterlogged. The BLACKCAPS travelled to Colombo this morning and will now return to Kandy tomorrow ahead of the relocated second ODI at Pallekele International Stadium. BLACKCAPS Team Manager, Mike Sandle, said: “Colombo has had a period of extremely wet weather, which has forced Sri Lankan Cricket to move the matches to Pallekele. “A lake close to the Premadasa has risen significantly, causing the water table so high that it is affecting the ground’s ability to drain. “I understand it is currently fine in Pallekele and we are hoping the weather is kind to us so we can get some cricket underway.” The second and third ODIs in the five-match series will be played on November 4 (LIVE - SKY Sport 1 from 9.40pm) and 6 (LIVE _ SKY Sport 3 from 9.40pm) as per the schedule.
