Bob Marley DAY-MAY 11 ,WORLDWIDE. 33rd Annual Tribute to the Reggae Legends - Bob Day 2014 May 11, 1981: Bob Marley dies:In what would prove to be the next to the last concert of his tragically short life, Bob Marley shared the bill at Madison Square Garden with the hugely popular American funk band The Commodores. With no costumes, no choreography and no set design to speak of, "The reggae star had the majority of his listeners on their feet and in the palm of his hand," according to New York Times critic Robert Palmer. "After this show of strength, and Mr. Marley's intense singing and electric stage presence, the Commodores were a letdown." Only days after his triumphant shows in New York City, Bob Marley collapsed while jogging in Central Park and later received a grim diagnosis: a cancerous growth on an old soccer injury on his big toe had metastasized and spread to Marley's brain, liver and lungs. Less than eight months later, on May 11, 1981, Bob Marley, the soul and international face of reggae mus ...

It was also Ali’s first chance to win back the heavyweight championship, which had been stripped by the WBA (World Boxing Association). Both Ali and Frazier were undefeated and had won Olympic gold medals and multiple Golden Gloves championships, but their personalities were vastly different. As WCBS 880′s Ginny Kosola reported, the men touted the falling crime rate over the past 12 years as they presided over their final NYPD graduation ceremony at Madison Square Garden. “In our city of 8.4 million people, there have been fewer than 340 homicides and that’s 20 percent below last year’s record low,” said Bloomberg. “The murder rate is down to levels New Yorkers haven’t seen since the 1950s.” The highest number of murders in New York City history was in 1990 when 2,245 people were killed. Those numbers went down in 2001 to 649. But this year there have been 332 murders reported. Lifelong New Yorker Susan Shaw of Queens told CBS 2′s Sonia Moghe she no longer recognizes parts of her city. “A lot of the neighborhoods that I used to go to if I haven’t been there for a wh ...

Only 3 days left to catch A Christmas Story, the Musical! Really hope you get a chance to check out the show in New York City at Madison Square Garden! When it closes on Dec 29th, I'll be sad for many reasons, but chief among them will be that it'll no longer be socially acceptable for my profile picture to be me in a giant pink bunny suit...so...until I have to take it down, pick up some tickets to ACS this holiday season...or...just shoot your eye out.

WWE Company history Main article: History of WWE Capitol Wrestling Corporation (1952-1963) Roderick James "Jess" McMahon was a successful boxing promoter who began working with Tex Rickard in 1926. With the help of Rickard, he began promoting boxing at the third Madison Square Garden. A few years prior, professional wrestler Joseph Raymond "Toots" Mondt had created a new challenge of professional wrestling that he called “Slam Bang Western Style Wrestling”. He convinced wrestler Ed Lewis and his manager Billy Sandow to implement this new solution into the wrestling industry. Following this, he formed a promotion with both men and persuaded many wrestlers to sign contracts with their Gold Dust Trio. After much success, a disagreement over power caused the trio to dissolve and, with it, their promotion. Mondt later formed partnerships with several other promoters, including Jack Curley in New York City. Mondt eventually took over the New York wrestling scene, due to the fact Curley was dying, with the a ...

Elizabeth Mendez defines determination. Elizabeth A. Quinones, (a.k.a. Misa Scotlynd), joined the United States Marine Corps in 2002, so she could make a difference in the world. She began her mission to make a difference in 2001 when she volunteered three months of her time through the Red Cross as a volunteer to assist the NYC Policemen and Firefighters at Ground Zero. In 2002, Elizabeth also volunteered her time at some of the New York City shelters and there she helped out with clothing, food and provided just a shoulder to lean on to people who needed support. Her career as a popular singer was launched when she belted out her heart felt and amazing rendition of the "National Anthem", at Madison Square Garden before a highly anticipated fight between Felix Trinidad and Ricardo Mayorga ("A Don King Production") Elizabeth's resume reflects a roster of who's who! Really Keri Cook Johnson, you gave me the I don't know if I can think of 11 things people don't already know about me...but here it goes: 1. My favorite was what would now be compared to a Dairy Queen. Thus my love of ice cream! 7. I use to help my dad in our campground by drivin ...
Survivor Series Count-Up – 2002: Open The Chamber Of Stupid Survivor Series 2002 Date: November 17, 2002 Location: Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York Attendance: 17,930 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, Tazz Well we’re into the brand split era now and last month on Smackdown’s PPV, we had a Cell match between Taker and Lesnar. Bischoff’s response: the Elimination Chamber. This is one of those shows that ticks me off to no end because of how the booking goes. Other than that, we’ve got a stupid booking decision on Smackdown as well which I don’t think I complained about enough the first time. Let’s get to it. The theme song is Always by Saliva which is a personal favorite. Dudley Boys/Jeff Hardy vs. 3 Minute Warning/Rico This is an elimination tables match. Oh and that’s Bubba and Spike, not D-Von. Spike and Bubba got put through the same table on Raw Monday to set this up. The Dudleys and Jeff clear the ring to start and Spike is thrown into the arms of the Sa ...

Dr. David Jeremiah Thursday, 7/4/2013 - To One or One Million Today's Devotional - July 4 To One or One Million Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 2 Timothy 4:2 Recommended Reading 1 Peter 3:15 In 1957, evangelist Billy Graham planned a six-week evangelistic crusade for New York City's Madison Square Garden. Instead of six weeks, the crusade lasted nearly sixteen weeks, from May 15 to September 1, and was attended by more than two million people. Billy Graham has preached the Gospel to more people in live audiences than anyone in history -- nearly 215 million people in 185 countries and territories. The large crusade format is most often associated with the word "evangelism." While that format has been used by God to bring many to Christ, evangelism simply means to "proclaim the Good News." Therefore, it can take place one-on-one over a cup of coffee or in a massive outdoor stadium with tens of thousands present. Crusade ev ...

Hi everyone. Matt Baker here with a question: How did New York City lose its title as boxing mecca? For years, Madison Square Garden was the ultimate venue for boxing (though there were many great clubs and arenas where major boxing events were held, including Yankee Stadium). But, in the last few decades, Las Vegas has so utterly pervaded the boxing world, the sport has all but forgotten about New York. How and why did this happen? I'm seeking the opinion of anyone and everyone who may have the answer, or even part of an answer. Thank you.
Galatians 6:9-10a Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people William Franklin "Billy" Graham, Jr. (born November 7, 1918) is an American Christian evangelist, ordained as a Southern Baptist minister, who rose to celebrity status in 1949 with the national media backing of William Randolph Hearst and Henry Luce. His sermons were broadcast on radio and television, some still being re-broadcast today. Graham was a spiritual adviser to several United States Presidents; he was particularly close to Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. During the civil rights movement, he initiated integrated seating for his revivals and crusades; in 1957 he invited the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. to preach jointly at a revival in New York City, where they appeared together at Madison Square Garden, and came to his aid when arrested at demonstrations in the 1960s. Graham operates a variety of media ...

They had a big chat last month and decided there wasn’t any point in dragging it out,” a source tells The Sun. Unfortunately, Liam’s busy work schedule is to blame. 6/9 This day in music. 1964, During an evening session Bob Dylan recorded Mr. Tambourine Man at Columbia Recording Studios in New York City. This was the first session for the Another Side Of Bob Dylan, which saw Dylan recording fourteen original compositions that night. The Byrds later recorded a version of Mr. Tambourine Man that was released as their first single and reached No.1 on both the US & UK Chart. The Byrds' recording of the song was influential in initiating the musical subgenre of folk-rock, leading many contemporary bands to mimic its fusion of jangly guitars and intellectual lyrics in the wake of the single's success. 1964, 1967, Pink Floyd played two gigs in one day, the first at the College of Commerce in Hull, and then the UFO at The Blarney Club, Tottenham Court Road, London, England. 1972, Elvis Presley made entertainment history by performing 4 sold-out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden. 100 Years Ago Today June 7, 1913 Striking silk workers and their supporters from Paterson, New Jersey put on a production in Madison Square Garden in New York City entitled the Paterson Strike Pageant. Possibly the only production of its kind ever staged, the play re-enacted the struggles of the workers before and during their now five month old strike. Intended to raise money to support the strikers, it fell woefully short in that respect. Only about a thousand of the more than 25,000 strikers could attend because of space limitations. Although critically successful, the play ended up losing money and was never repeated so far as I know. United Mine Workers president John P White and 18 other union officials are indicted by a grand jury in West Virginia for violation of Sherman anti-trust rules. Charged with monopolizing diggers of coal and mine laborers and restraining interstate commerce of coal, the charges would eventually be thrown out in a higher court as being a misuse of the intent of the law. I can cross that off my bucket list now.

When I saw the text, I literally had to squat down to keep from fainting! I was about to board the 2nd of 3  legs on my way to Philly to take COMLEX PE (the DO version of the USMLE CS exam) and I got a text that my last leg had been canceled!! My initial thought was PANIC!!! Then I settled down, took a moment to pray (and texted my wife to pray!) and set about re-arranging my travel for the day.   It turned out that DC was getting snowed in so I couldn’t fly from Dulles to Philly that night. I ended up flying into LaGuardia and driving from New York City to Philly. I got a GPS for my rental car, which kept getting confused so I ended up getting to see Macy’s, Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building all lit up at night as well as driving through the Mid-Town tunnel AND the Holland tunnel. A nice tour of NYC, granted, but I was in a bit of a rush!   All-in-all, it took me an hour to get out of NYC, then two hours on the New Jersey Turnpike and another half-hour in Pennsylvania before I ...

Picking out Uncomplicated Advice Of When the Garden Was Eden The late 1960s and early 1970s, in New York City and America at large, were years marked by political tumult, social unrest-and the best professional basketball ever played. Paradise, for better or worse, was a hardwood court in Midtown Manhattan. When the Garden Was Eden is the definitive account of how the New York Knickerbockers won their first and only championships, and in the process provided the nation no small escape from the Vietnam War, the tragedy at Kent State, and the last vestiges of Jim Crow. The Knicks were more than a team; they were a symbol of harmony, the sublimation of individual personalities for the greater collective good. No one is better suited to revive the old chants of “Dee-fense!” that rocked Madison Square Garden or the joy that radiated courtside than Harvey Araton, who has followed the Knicks, old and new, for decades-first as a teenage fan, then as a young sports reporter with the New York Post, and now as a ...

The former four-time World Champion has fought in the Garden on seven previous occasions, winning all of them, and will try to capture his fifth world title against Austin Trout on Saturday night. Trout, the WBA junior middleweight champion, has taken the long road to boxing's biggest stage. Even as the defending champion, he is—without a doubt—the party crasher. But it's Miguel Cotto's house, and it's his party. For Trout to walk out of the arena with his WBA title still around his waist he will need to turn in the performance of his career.
