I recently read an essay entitled "Gangsta Rap's Heroic Substrata: A Survey of the Evidence" by John Paul Hampstead. The article was okay but it had two statements in it that basically came across as wrong to me and I wanted to share them on FB because there's people on here who know way more about hip hop than I do, i.e. Kerry Yarbrough and others. 1st statement- "Gangsta rap emerged from hip-hop as a self-consciously controversial, provocative subgenre in Southern California in the late 1980's with the work of Ice-T and NWA, before finding a foothold in New York City with hard hitting rappers Run-DMC and Kool G Rap." I know Run DMC had their own thing before NWA, but how influential was gangsta rap on their later records? 2nd (partial) Statement refers to "the anti-semetic remarks of NWA's Professor Griff." Wasn't he from PE? Thoughts??
Subject: You need an emergency Plan. YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EMERGENCY PLAN! VERY IMPORTANT information that could save your life! Do you know who Juval Aviv is? He was Golda Meir's bodyguard and the Israeli Agent upon whom the movie ' Munich ' was based. Golda Meir appointed him to track down and bring to justice the Palestinian terrorists who took the Israeli athletes hostage and killed them during the Munich Olympic Games. In a lecture in New York City a few weeks ago, Aviv shared information that EVERY American needs to know, but that our government has not yet shared with us. A little background: Aviv predicted the London subway bombing on the Bill O'Reilly show on Fox News, stating publicly that it would happen within a week. At the time, O'Reilly laughed and mocked him, saying that in a week he wanted Aviv back on the show. Unfortunately, within a week the terrorist attack had occurred. Juval Aviv also gave intelligence to the Bush Administration about 9/11 a month before it occurred. His report specif ...

4 emotional mistakes made by home sellers By Michael Estrin Keep emotion out of selling a home The greatest hindrance to the sale of a home can be a seller who is seized by emotion. "It is very important for sellers to (keep) in mind that a real estate transaction is most likely the single largest financial transaction they will ever undertake," says Fiona Dogan, a realtor in the Rye, N.Y., office of Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty. "It should be viewed and handled primarily as a business transaction, with cold, hard decisions being made on a financial and investment basis." Home sellers who allow emotions and sentimental attachments to overtake them during the sales process run the risk of making hasty, sometimes poor decisions, Dogan says. Here are some tips to help any home seller avoid making emotional mistakes that could cost money. Overpricing Getting top dollar is the dream of every home seller. But getting a buyer to pay a premium for features that are valuable only to you? That's clos ...

OPENING FRIDAY 5/17 7 – 9 PM Foliage by Elliott Sharp is a long-form graphic music score that offers abstract instructions allowing for infinite possible interpretations by performing musicians. Featuring a series of 80 risograph prints, Foliage is, in Sharp’s words, “a graphic score open to interpretation and realization by any instrumentalist or ensemble of any size… [it] is a piece of retinal art as much as it is an instruction set for sound, form and function interlocked.” Graphic notation, which evolved during the post-1945 avant-garde, experimental music scene, falls outside the realm of traditional music notation; it is the representation of music through the use of visual symbols. Foliage exists at the intersection of musical composition, art installation and performance – Sharp’s score is brought to life by the distinct singular interpretation of each musician who performs it. A central figure in the avant-garde and experimental music scene in New York City since the late 1970s, Sha ...

32-year-old Mark Carson was walking down a street in New York City on Friday evening when a man came up to him and his friends, yelled *** and *** " and shot him in the head. Mark's horrific death is part of a string of anti-LGBT violence in New York City and bias-motivated crime around the country. It could have been me, it could have been you, your friend, your son or daughter. Hate crimes are sadly nothing new, but we've written an open letter to the mayors of every major U.S. city and all 50 governors to capture the spirit we're all feeling right now: horror, outrage, and a determination that love will conquer hate even in a moment as awful as this one. If you agree, I'm hoping you'll sign on.

The Truth I was upstairs on a Wednesday night and I was feeling tired. My Dad came into the bathroom and his facial expression told me that we were about to go into deep conversation. I noticed his behavior prior to this moment wasn’t how it normally was and everything about those 10 minutes silenced me. This is the thing, I was a kid and didn’t have any understanding about cancer. I also didn’t realize that years from now someone would have the ability to take my troubles away and that falling in love was an option. My dad knelt beside me and told me that Mom’s cancer had come back and he was unsure of the condition. It metastasized sometime in 2008.  I remember the weeks following her diagnosis. I was in disbelief for a couple weeks until we drove into New York City for the first chemo. Adults came to me always sounding optimistic about her condition, even my father. In a few months time, a nurse moved in to take care of mom but those comforting words of certainty blinded me from the inevitable ...
Now that we're all shopped out (even me), have returned the mistakes and planned for future purchases, it's time to take a look back on the best of New York City retail this year, and a couple of wishes for the future. Musical Chairs. I've seen a lot of retail move around town, but 2012 saw an unusually large number of stores shift spaces, sometimes within a block or two of their original locations. Anya Hindmarch moved a few blocks north from East 60th to 795 Madison Avenue. Patricia Field (of Sex & the City fame) moved from 302 to 304 Bowery.Baccarat will open a huge flagship at 635 Madison in May, just up the street from its spot at 625 Madison. And Moscot is moving after 77 years across the street to 108 Orchard Street! Lower Manhattan's resilience. Yes, the damage from Sandy may delay some stores making commitments. And I'm anxious to see what will happen at the Seaport. But with renovations to the World Financial Center/Brookfield Place, and the return of a shopping complex to the World Tr ...

7 1/2 more months to go with this fool of a mayor.. They are so arrogant. They believe they can do what they want and where they want. First is was bike paths being pushed on communities then it was the closing of streets for plaza's without community review and now it is the bike share program. They take many parking spots out od communities that need the parking most to put these rent a- bikes sponsored by Citi-bank. to add insult to injury they placed them opposite houses of worship that use those spots to park vehicles for funerals and weddings and we can't forget how they took over park space at Petrosino Park that is to be used for art displays. But you will find NO bikeshare sites on the upper eastside where the wanna be king lives.

Do you know who she is...?? Neerja Bhanot was the senior flight purser on the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73, hijacked by four heavily armed terrorists after it landed at Karachi at 5 am from Mumbai. PA 73 was en route to Frankfurt and onward to New York City. Neerja alerted the cockpit crew about the hijack and, as the plane was on the tarmac, the three-member cockpit crew of pilot, co-pilot and the flight engineer were able to flee from the aircraft. Neerja, being the most senior cabin crew member on board, took charge. The hijackers were part of the Palestinian Abu Nidal terrorist organization and were backed by Libya. They immediately shot dead a passenger who identified himself to the terrorists as being an American. The terrorists then instructed Neerja to get the passports collected of all the passengers, so that they could identify the Americans. Neerja, and the other attendants under her charge, hid the passports of the 40 Americans on board. After 17 hours, the hijackers opened fire and set off expl ...

Yahoo's chief executive Marissa Mayer said that as part of its promise "not to screw it up", Tumblr would operate independently. David Karp, will continue as chief executive officer of Tumblr. The deal is the largest made by Ms Mayer since she took the helm at Yahoo last July, and she described the acquisition as a "unique opportunity." Mr Karp, 26, who owns 25% of the privately-owned company he co-founded with Marco Arment in 2007, said he was "elated" to have the support of Yahoo. May 20: Electric taxi driver gets first U.S. speeding ticket on this date in 1899 The more things change the more they stay the same! The men behind the Electric Vehicle Co. thought they had the 20th century by the scruff of the neck. After two inventors had fashioned a working electric vehicle in 1894, they formed an electric taxicab company in New York, that grew enough to be backed by a wealthy industrialist. As of 1899, there were 60-odd electric taxicabs in the city, and while they were heavy and slow by modern standards, they were a marvel of luxury compared to staring at a horse's behind over cobblestone streets. On this day in 1899, an EV driver named Jacob German was flagged down by a New York City police officer — Bicycle Roundsman Schuessler — who found his cab to be traveling at an unacceptable speed, which the officer estimated at 12 mph. German would receive America's first citation for speeding in a car, a historical note that has outlived the Electric Vehicle company, which foundered an ...

OMG, this is the great actress and model, our very own Barbara Woods. I found her fresh out of UGA with a drama degree and we hired her at Jeryls to take my place at Happy Hour when I moved to nights. After some training from me, she came in a 9 in the morning and practiced until we opened at 11 AM for quite a number of weeks. When she was ready she took over my Happy Hour shift and became one rockin' sockin' Disco DJ in the same top 40 radio stye that I used and still use to this day. She even made the cover of the RMR DJ magazine. She eventually moved to New York and after many more commercials finally settled into a production job at HBO. Today she works for Mayor Bloomberg in New York City government and she still has that amazing smile and is as stunningly beautiful as ever. Everyone who has ever met her loves her to pieces. Can believe we found this. Now if only we could find a copy of my Georgia School of Bartending commercial which ran like 17 times a night on WTBS TV Channel 17 for like ...
Last night at the sold out Tom Jones show -- excellent video taken by steady-hand Lex from on the stairs (where two shorties like us were able to get a great view of the show without blocking traffic). Tickets to the show were scored only hours beforehand at a reasonable price thanks to her vigilance and internet skills. Bumped into old SUNY Purchase film buddy Merrill Friedman (we always seem to be at the same, strangely disparate musical events!) and we all had a total blast! Tom was great and the band was tight. Fantastic evening out and about -- New York City hasn't been flushed completely down the toilet just yet (or at least it'll take more than a single flush to clear out all the sludge we love).

Calypso Concert 1946 A live recording of Calypso At Midnight, a concert held at Town Hall, New York City, on December 21, 1946. Learning that Town Hall could be rented cheaply after regular theater hours, Alan Lomax produced a late-night concert series called The Midnight Special, which was thematically organized as Blues At Midnight, Ballads At Midnight, etc., and sponsored by the People’s Songs Collective. The calypso concert recordings, made at Lomax’s request and later found by chance in a closet by Bess Lomax Hawes, may be the only extant record of this series. “This concert is a fascinating document of an American presentation of Trinidadian calypso at a time when interest in the genre was spreading from New York City into the mainstream of popular music in the United States” (Donald R. Hill and John H. Cowley, Calypso At Midnight [Rounder 1840]).

"Last Poets were rappers of the civil rights era. Along with the changing domestic landscape came the New York City-hip group called The Last Poets, who used obstreperous verse to chide a nation whose inclination was to maintain the colonial yoke around the neck of the disenfranchised. Shortly after the death of Martin Luther King, The Last Poets were born. David Nelson, Gylan Kain, and Abiodun Oyewole, were born on the anniversary of Malcolm X's birthday May 19, 1968 in Marcus Garvey Park. They grew from three poets and a drummer to seven young black and Hispanic artists: David Nelson, Gylan Kain, Abiodun Oyewole, Felipe Luciano, Umar Bin Hassan, Jalal Nurridin, and Suliamn El Hadi (Gil Scott Heron was never a member of the group). They took their name from a poem by South African poet Willie Kgositsile, who posited the necessity of putting aside poetry in the face of looming revolution. "When the moment hatches in time's womb there will be no art talk," he wrote. "The only poem you will hear will be the ...

For Kayne West, presentation is everything and on Friday night (May 17), rap's reigning mad scientist conjured up a revolutionary way to premiere his "New Slaves" music video. Instead of YouTube or MTV, Yeezy projected his latest clip on the sides of buildings in 66 locations around the world, giving fans little forewarning before the first premiere. He posted the viewing times and locations on his KanyeWest.com site and about 100 fans answered the call and gathered on the corner of 14th Street and 10th Avenue in New York City's Meatpacking District as many as 30 minutes before the scheduled 11:45 p.m. showing. The truck that drove around the city projecting the vid was an hour late, but the delay didn't seem to matter much to the dedicated flock who gasped as the stark black and white image of their rap hero shot up on a matte black wall. "My mama was raised in the era when/ Clean water was only served to the fairer skin/ Threw on clothes, you would've thought I had help/ But they wasn't satisfied unless ...

THE GREAT GATSBY Director: BAZ LUHRMANN Verdict: Crass and OTT but pure theatre. Star rating: 3 and a half out of 5. When Aussie filmmaker Baz Luhrmann set out to adapt F.Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, he was prepared for criticism. And criticism he has received for his $100 million adaptation of the 1925 literary landmark novel. But hey, what do critics know? The big budget 3D film has taken more than $50 million in its opening week in the US alone and audiences elsewhere will warm to its intoxicating, over-the-top scenes, capturing very much the flavour of the roaring 1920s with a 21st century feel. The story follows Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire in pre-Wall St crash America, a period of indulgence and opulence centred around New York City. But the demise of Gatsby’s dreams and desires for Daisy runs alongside the end of the glitz and glamour of the age, charted by author and bonds broker Nick Carraway through his narration. Jazz is replaced by hip hop from artist Jay Z. with ...

The Dogs of New York City... Staten Island, Manhatten and Brooklyn ... SHELTER!! AN INDICTMENT OF THE NEW YORK CITY ANIMAL “CARE” AND CONTROL “SHELTERS” By: Lorraine Graziano Crimando I was invited to write an article on the NYC Animal Care & Control Shelters.  However, there is a vast disparity between an article and an indictment, and in this case, “indictment” is the more applicable word.  And, as we lately pervert the meaning of words to suit convenience, when writing about the NYC AC&C, the prime example of this disparity lies in the words “care” and “shelter.” Webster’s defines the word “care” as “painstaking or watchful attention” and “shelter” as “an establishment that houses and feeds stray animals.”  Neither of these words have anything remotely in common with what’s currently going on in NYC shelters. There are a plethora of failures inherent in the NYC Animal Care & Control “shelters,” but they begin and end in the senseless death of thousands of ...
Inspired by my latest trip to Vanadzor, the city of poets and romanticists,  I am sharing this letter that John Steinbeck wrote to his eldest son Thom. In the initial letter Thom, who was attending boarding school, spoke of Susan, a young girl with whom he believed he had fallen in love. Steinbeck replied the same day.   November 1956, New York City   Dear Thom,   We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.   First—if you are in love—that’s a good thing—that’s about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don’t let anyone make it small or light to you.   Second—There are several kinds of love. One is a selfish, mean, grasping, egotistical thing which uses love for self-importance. This is the ugly and crippling kind. The other is an outpouring of everything good in you—of kindness and consideration and respect—not only the social respect of manners but the greater respect which is recognition of another person as un ...

Front Page Search Contact Advertise Support Newsletter RSS Feed Podcasts Shop Amazon Media Now Openly Admitting The Government Controls The News May 18, 2013 Print Version Source: Alexander Higgins A trio of Obama scandals has forced the corporate media admit its own reports are nothing more than the government-controlled talking points and not the product of a free and open press. If you have been following the news lately you’ll notice there are 3 government scandals that the media is focusing on 1) The DOJ spying on the AP reporters 2) Benghazi gate 3) IRS targeting of activist groups. While each of these are truly a damning indictment of the widespread corruption in our now gone rogue federal government, combing these three stories reveals an even bigger story which is recurring open admission by the media that the news they report is being controlled government. These three scandals have led the media to rebel against the Obama administration in a way that it has not done in the past while at the s ...

On this day in music history: May 18, 1979 - "Lodger", the thirteenth studio album by David Bowie is released. Produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti, it is recorded at Mountain Studios in Montreaux, Switzerland and The Record Plant in New York City in September 1978 and March 1979 . The album is the third and final Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy", his collaborative efforts with producer/musician Brian Eno, named as such since the songs are composed while the two are living in East Germany (though recorded elsewhere). More pop oriented than its predecessors "Low" and "Heroes", but still maintaining an experimental edge. The albums two sides will feature songs that follow specific themes. The first side include songs representing travel, while the second side feature songs commenting on Western society. The album's cover art (designed by Bowie and British pop artist Derek Boshier) features a photo (taken with a Polaroid SX-70 camera) of the singer posed as an accident victim with a broken nose sprawled out on ...

Obama agenda seems to be weathering controversies AP Photo WASHINGTON (AP) - Despite Democratic fears, predictions of the demise of President Barack Obama's agenda appear exaggerated after a week of cascading controversies, political triage by the administration and party leaders in Congress and lack of evidence to date of wrongdoing close to the Oval Office. One of the five enemies from within is worry. We've all got to worry some. Just don't let it conquer you. Instead, let it alarm you. Worry can be useful. If you step off the curb in New York City and a taxi is coming, you've got to worry. But you can't let worry loose like a mad dog that drives you into a small corner. Here's what you've got to do with your worries: drive them into a small corner. Whatever is out to get you, you've got to get it. Whatever is pushing on you, you've got to push back.

The U.S. State Department has denied Iranian media reports that the United States deported the Iranian wrestling team ahead of a Sunday meet in Los Angeles. A State Department official tells VOA's Persian News Network that U.S. authorities had nothing to do with their departure. The wrestlers abruptly returned home after beating the American team in an exhibition Wednesday at Grand Central Station in New York City. None of the 18 Iranian wrestlers was allowed to speak to VOA on the record. Sources say political pressure at home and fears that their appearance in Los Angeles could spark anti-Iranian protests, however, were reasons for their early departure This was the first U.S. appearance by the Iranian wresting team in 10 years. The exhibitions were aimed at drawing attention to the ancient sport after the International Olympic Committee decided to drop wrestling from the Summer Games in 2020. USA Wrestling said it was grateful to the Iranian Wrestling Federation for its participation in an "outstanding ...
Growing up, I can remember searching for hours on Google, trying to find more and more pictures of the immense skyline of New York City. Having never been there, it started becoming a fantasy of mine to live right in the middle of it. The sheer number of skyscrapers that make the city, to this day, astonishes me. There was something alluring about living in a place that housed 8 million other people. Having been raised on a ‘small-town’ mentality, New York was incredibly far-fetched, although I never lost the dream. I traveled to New York once on a field trip my freshmen year of high school and can still remember the feeling of ‘breath-taking’ when we emerged from the Lincoln Tunnel, in midtown Manhattan. All the pictures I saw, and articles I read, couldn’t even come close to comparing to the feeling of actually seeing the skyscrapers surround you. I’ve seen so many movies showing stereotypes of a sea of yellow taxicabs stopped at a red light, and within a few seconds, the crosswalk is floode ...

The following is copyrighted material and subject to change     What defines the perfect life? Well, I wasn’t quite sure but I was fairly certain that mine was pretty close to it. I was marrying my high school sweetheart in just a few short months. Together, we had pursued our dream of living in New York City in our tiny Greenwich Village apartment. But to me, it didn’t matter where we lived, as long as I was with Eric Callahan - I was happy. I first met Eric in the fifth grade. I was the new girl and couldn’t help but notice the cute boy with the big brown doe eyes who sat in the front of the class because of his constant chattering. I was told to stay away from him because he belonged to Tiffany Bennet, the most popular and mean spirited girl in the fifth grade. All of the boys liked her, probably because she had something that most ten year old girls lack - boobs. So, being the new girl and wanting to fit in, I kept my distance.  All throughout middle school, I crushed on him from afar, and e ...

House music is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the American city of Chicago in the early 1980s. It was initially popularized circa 1984 in Chicago, but beginning in 1985, it fanned out to other major cities such as Detroit, Toronto, New York City, San Francisco, Boston, Montreal, Manchester, Miami, London and Paris. It then began to influence popular music in Europe, with songs such as House Nation by House Master Boyz and the Rude Boy Of House (1987) and Doctorin' The House by Coldcut(1988) in the pop charts. Since the early to mid-1990s, house music has been infused in mainstream pop and dance music worldwide. Early house music was generally dance-based music characterized by repetitive 4/4beats, rhythms mainly provided by drum machines, off-beat hi-hat cymbals, and synthesized basslines. While house displayed several characteristics similar to discomusic, it was more electronic and minimalistic and the repetitive rhythm of house was more important than the song itse ...

Bloomberg: Natural Gas Drops Most in 2 Weeks as Supply Gain Tops Forecasts By Naureen S. Malik - May 16, 2013 Natural gas futures fell the most in two weeks in New York after a U.S. stockpile increase exceeded forecasts. Gas dropped 3.4 percent, the biggest one-day decline since May 2, after the Energy Information Administration said inventories rose 99 billion cubic feet in the week ended May 10 to 1.964 trillion. Analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg showed a gain of 95 billion. Gas prices climbed 4.1 percent the previous three days on speculation that an unusually warm end to May would spur demand from power plants to run air conditioners. “We did see a larger-than-expected build in storage for the second consecutive week,” said Tim Evans, an energy analyst at Citi Futures Perspective in New York. “The rally that preceded this drop was not well-supported fundamentally. We are seeing year-on-year supply growth, so production growth against the demand decline, that’s bearish.” Natural gas for ...
A store that sells new husbands has opened in New York City where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:   You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor or may choose to go up to the next floor but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:    Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs    She is intrigued but continues to the second floor where the sign reads:  Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids. 'That's nice,' she thinks, 'but I want more.'    So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:  Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.  'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going    She goes to the fourth floor and the sign ...

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you’re the Terminator, you’re probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s important in your life.    Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. And I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here’s what happened.    I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, the car skidded, the tires squealed, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the other car’s back-end.    I couldn’t believe it. But then I couldn’t believe what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad w ...

The 1 Thing a Business Leader Must Do to Succeed May 16, 2013 Sadly, 25% of businesses fail within their first year and an astonishing 70% of businesses fail within ten years. So, if you're thinking about starting a business or you've recently made the leap, how can you optimize your chances of success? What is the single most important factor in determining your success? I asked this question of 10 successful business leaders from the Young Entrepreneur Council, and their answers are below, followed by mine: 1. Build A Strong Leadership Team We used to invest in technology. Then it was marketing. Then we woke up and realized it was all about the people. Bringing in the best, seasoned, Director/VP-level talent over the past 18 months has really helped the owners bring the company's goals back in focus. Do your systems, workflow and technology always need to be evolving? You bet. But at a certain point in company's growth, you will NEED an experienced leader helping you architect those things if you want t ...

From Haru: This story is from yesterday's DEMOCRACY NOW broadcast. Please read. THere was no SHARE button that I could find. Hedges: Monitoring of AP Phones a "Terrifying" Step in State Assault on Press Freedom PRINTER-FRIENDLY The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges joins us to discuss what could mark the most significant government intrusion on freedom of the press in decades. The Justice Department has acknowledged seizing the work, home and cellphone records used by almost 100 reporters and editors at the Associated Press. The phones targeted included the general AP office numbers in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Hartford, Connecticut, and the main number for the AP in the House of Representatives press gallery. The action likely came as part of a probe into the leaks behind an AP story on the U.S. intelligence operation that stopped a Yemen-based al-Qaeda bombing plot on a U.S.-bound airplane. Hedges, a senior fellow at The Nation Institute and former New York Times reporter, ca ...

Theodore Robinson (July 3, 1852 - April 2, 1896) was an American painter best known for his impressionist landscapes. He was one of the first American artists to take up impressionism in the late 1880s, visiting Giverny and developing a close friendship with Claude Monet. Several of his works are considered masterpieces of American Impressionism. Robinson was born in Irasburg, Vermont. His family moved to Wisconsin, and Robinson briefly studied art in Chicago. In 1874 he journeyed to New York City to attended classes at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League. In 1876 he traveled to Paris to study under Carolus-Duran and, at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, with Jean-Leon Gerome. He exhibited his first paintings in Paris in 1877, and spent the summer of that year at Grez-sur-Loing.

Foster carelessness The month of May is National Foster Care Awareness month. There's nearly 500,000 children in the U.S. foster care system who need love and a permanent home. This doesn't count the 27,000-30,000 at risk foster youth who aged out at 18 years young in most American states in 2012 and 2011 and 2010 and 2009 and 2008 etc. By now, most of those kids are parenting, in prison, homeless or dead. The remainder 3%" made it.. Happy birthday you're tax dollars are paying for them anyways! How did the foster care system begin and when? In 1854 - 30,000 innocent orphans flooded the streets in New York City. These orphans were eventually crammed into train carts aka Orphan Trains or Baby Trains by the Catholic Church in good faith that these kids would find forever homes. They were transported west on these loud coal burning trains to vast farm lands all across white America. When the Orphan Train stopped at each depot, ranchers and farmers pinched each kids arm to calibrate how much muscle these litt ...
