The literacy rate in NCT is about 86.2 per cent, which is much better than the national average. The literacy rate stood at 86.3 per cent in urban areas, while 81.9 per cent in rural areas. 90.9 per cent males and 80.8 per cent females were found to literate in Delhi. The highest population district wise was registered in North-West district, which was 21.78 per cent of the total population, while the lowest was recorded in New Delhi district at 0.85 per cent. However, the highest density of population was registered at 36,155 persons per square km in North district while distribution of population was scantiest in New Delhi district with only 4,057 persons residing in one square km, the report said. Percentage of highest child population was in Seelampur at 14 per cent, while the lowest was in Connaught Place area at 8.4 per cent.

Arrests for home cruelty highest among women ANANYA SENGUPTA New Delhi, June 13: In the past six years, one in every four women arrested in India was held on the charge of harassing or torturing another woman at home, National Crime Records Bureau data show. Since 2007, around 2.5 lakh women have been arrested under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with cruelty to a married woman by her husband and his relatives. This comes to an average of over 40,000 arrests of women per year under the section â€” more than under any other criminal law section. According to the crime bureauâ€™s latest report, around 2.1 lakh women were arrested in 2011. Of these arrests, those under 498A accounted for 47,951 or 22.6 per cent, and those under Section 304B (dowry deaths) for another 5,031 or 2.37 per cent, for a combined tally of about 25 per cent. "The court sent Firoz to five days in police custody," he said. Firoz is the 28th accused to be arrested in the spot fixing scandal that was exposed by Delhi Police last month. He had been managing money and betting-related issues between Dawood Ibarhim and other bookies for several years. "After the death of Jahid, another conduit, Firoz came in contact with 'D company'. FB 317: Disclose letters of complaints against judges - CIC, New Delhi: In a move which may make public the names of judges against whom complaints have been received by the Law Ministry, the CIC has directed the ministry to disclose the forwarding letters attached with such complaints referred to the Supreme Court and the High Courts by it. The Ministry had earlier claimed that it cannot provide copy of complaints because these complaints are forwarded to Chief Justice of India and Chief Justices of High Courts in respective cases. It had also said that the ministry officials do not keep a record of these complaints. While hearing the plea of RTI activist Subhash Agrawal, the Central Information Commission found his demand of the letters "reasonable" and ordered the disclosure of such letters dating back to last one year immediately and asked the officials to trace records for three years and provide it to the applicant. KOCHI: A Navy officer, accused of sexually abusing his wife along with his colleagues in the Southern Naval Command (SNC) here, would be arrested on his return from New Delhi, the city police said on Tuesday. The announcement was made a day after the high court had criticized the police's laxity in probing the case filed by the wife of Lieutenant Ravi Kiran Kabduala. Assistant commissioner of police in Mattancherry M Binoy confirmed that the naval officer would be arrested. Real estate bill leaves developers unhappy TOI 6th June 2013 New Delhi: Developers and builders have raised concern about some of the provisions of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill and said stringent rules such as launching projects only after getting all statutory clearances would delay projects and push up costs. They said the government should include provisions to ensure that relevant authorities accord all approvals within a specified time frame. Detailing the impact of the bill on the real estate sector, executive MD of Cushman and Wakefield Sanjay Dutt said in the short-to-medium term, there could be a slowdown in new project launches as getting permissions is a time consuming process. New Delhi, May 23 (IANS) As many as 56,700 Indians face deportation from Saudi Arabia in the next one-and-half months and ten officials have been despatched to the kingdom to help the Indian mission prepare emergency certificates for their exit, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said Thursday. "As of now, 56,700 Indians have registered with the Indian mission for getting exit permits as they have no valid passports or other travel documents," Khurshid told a group of Urdu editors here. He said he is leaving on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia to meet his counterpart Faisal Al Saud and other dignitaries and discuss various bilateral matters including problems of Indian workers due to the "Nitaqat" policy under which all companies are required to provide 10 percent of jobs to Saudi youth.
