Updated 4:05 p.m. ET James Byrd Jr. and Matthew Shepard died to get this law into place. A law custom made for George Zimmerman! (CBS News) "Legally, we have to accept" a jury's ruling late Saturday night to acquit former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, the victim's family lawyer Daryl Parks said Sunday on "Face the Nation." But, countered NAACP president Benjamin Jealous, federal criminal charges could still await Zimmerman "for what he has done." "There may be a civil action brought by the family, but there should definitely be criminal charges brought by the [Justice Department]," Jealous argued. Under the 2009 Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, he explained, federal investigators would "have to show that race was a factor in his decision making - and there seems to be plenty of evidence that suggests that may race may have been a factor." A Justice Department spokesperson said in a statement Sunday its inv ...

George Zimmerman on Univison: I'm homeless and suffering from PTSD George Zimmerman, the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who fatally shot Travyon Martin, told Spanish-language television network Univision that he is homeless and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. An English translation of the interview that airs Sunday was released to the media today. Zimmerman will speak on a special edition of "Aquí y Ahora" at 7 p.m. Special correspondent Ilia Calderón spoke at length to Zimmerman, who shot the 17-year-old Miami Gardens youth in February 2012 in Zimmerman's gated community in Sanford. In the interview, Zimmerman repeatedly declines to answer questions about the shooting, citing a still-pending federal civil-rights investigation. However, he tells Calderón that his first reaction after firing the shot was concern that he had missed. "I was afraid it had gone through his clothes and that it was going to go... get lost, and, um, you know, go into a house and — because the young man was still ...

Rappers The Game and DMX have put their names forward to fight America's most infamous Neighborhood Watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, in a celebrity boxing match in March. Zimmerman, who was last year acquitted of murdering unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin during a street altercation in Florida, recently agreed to take part in a celebrity fight night. "It was my idea," Zimmerman tells RadarOnline. "Boxing isn't new to me. It's something I had picked up well before the incident and it's something that I liked, I enjoyed, and I kept up with it and I was able to lose a tremendous amount of weight and get a healthy lifestyle." And now The Game, who has an image of Martin tattooed on his leg, tells TMZ he would definitely jump into the ring with Zimmerman: "I will beat the f--- out of him ... I would not be boxing for me. I'd be boxing for the legacy of Trayvon Martin and for his family." "I would box him to knock him out," The Game continues. "I would definitely take pleasure in it. It's legal, and I want to ...

Wannabe cop George Zimmerman will be acquitted of second degree murder because the prosecution overcharged him in the killing of Trayvon Martin. Also the prosecution presented a very poor case. Hopefully, "Neighborhood Watch" volunteers will wear uniforms and properly identify themselves so won't cause an incident which will take another innocent life.

I do not believe George Zimmerman killed Travon Martin because he was black. There is nothing so far in this trial that leads me to believe such. However, George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin because Trayvon Martin stood his ground against illegal search and seizure. That's right, Trayvon Martin defended himself from an attacker, which was George Zimmerman. Zimmerman had no authority to approach this kid, even if he was "looking around, acting like he was high". George Zimmerman was a part of the "Neighborhood Watch" which meant that all he should have doing to Trayvon Martin was "watching" him. If a strange man approaches you with no public safety identifiers on, and tries to grab you, what do you do? George Zimmerman could have easily been a kidnapper, child molester, who knows? Trayvon Martin stood his ground a fought back, as he had every right to. George Zimmerman acted out of his league by playing cop and violated Tryvon Martin's 4th amendment right, caught a bad one, and shot Trayvon, when he sh ...
Good Friday morning June 28 dear family of fans, Day five of the George Zimmerman trial resumes today. Yesterday A friend of Trayvon Martin Rachel Jeantel who was on the telephone with the teen in the last moments of his life, testified for the second day. She thought his encounter with murder defendant George Zimmerman was racially charged. Rachel Jeantel testified that she believed race was an issue because Trayvon told her he was being followed by a white man. Under often arguable questioning by Defense Attorney Don West, Rachel Jeantel said there were inconsistencies in her statements because of some of the questions posed by state attorneys and law enforcement officials as well as the length of the interviews. She also said she omitted some details of what she knew because she was trying to spare Trayvon's family grief. After her testimony was over, Rachel Jeantel was told she remains under subpoena, which means she could be called again later in the trial. Later, jurors heard from Jennifer Laue ...
Watching Rachel Jeantel testify ... George Zimmerman deliberately disregarded Neighborhood Watch 'guidelines' . designed to avoid this kind of situation ... and took a gun and confronted the kid. The case should be FIRST degree murder, Open and Shut, for disregarding guidelines and deliberately approaching with a gun. Somebody talked her into testifying, made her aware the defense attorney would behave like this; and she hates the whole thing. And Zimmerman may get away with it: he's white, the kid was black -- which was why Zimmerman did it. I think their hope -- the prosecution's -- is that just the right level of hostility on her part will get the jury's attention. To a point that really shouldn't have to be made in the first place. Can't endure watching too long at any one time: too much like watching the equally superior white folk show on Faux News. A dog and pony show.
The prosecution’s star witness Rachel Jeantel was hammered with questions for a second day in the George Zimmerman trial. She was grilled by defense attorneys regarding the consistency of her statements related to the night Trayvon Martin died.Phone records show that the 19 year old was talking to he...
Another reason I'll miss Germany: we're free from 24-7 coverage of Paula Deen - George Zimmerman - Obama "scandals" - Jodi Arias - blah blah blah. It's bizarre that Americans talk to and about each other in horribly abusive ways EVERY day, and popular music is filled with slurs of every stripe. Why do we then expect perfection from public figures? Who says we have to be perfect and infallible? WalMart? A cable network? Everyone makes mistakes they wish they could take back.
~ Update ~ Judge Debra Nelson dealt a huge blow to the state today, by banning their audio experts from testifying that the voice heard in the 911 call was indeed Trayvon Martin. ~ Excerpt from The Orlando Sentinel ~ Judge bars audio experts from George Zimmerman trial who say screams were not Zimmerman - Rene Stutzman and Jeff Weiner In a major victory for murder suspect George Zimmerman, a judge today ruled that prosecutors may not put on the witness stand two state audio experts who say the voice heard screaming for help on a 911 call was someone other than Zimmerman. Those screams, recorded while Zimmerman was fighting with 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, are the most dramatic piece of evidence in the high-profile murder case. Zimmerman, a Neighborhood Watch volunteer, says they came from him, that he was calling for help after Trayvon attacked him. Trayvon's parents say they are from their son and are his last words before Zimmerman shot him in the chest. Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson had heard three da ...

As the jury selection process for the George Zimmerman trial begins, many of us wonder how the process begins and what both sides will be looking for in potential jurors. Article courtesy of Rene Stutzman from the Orlando Sentinel. ~ George Zimmerman trial: What will both sides seek in jurors? ~ SANFORD — Picking a jury can be slow and tedious, but some lawyers say it is the most important part of a trial. "It's critical," said Orlando defense attorney Diana Tennis. That process begins Monday for George Zimmerman, the 29-year-old former Neighborhood Watch volunteer charged with second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, during a confrontation in Sanford last year. So what will each side look for when choosing jurors? Defense attorneys will likely favor people age 40 and older, predicted Orlando jury consultant Susan Constantine. They'll also want managers, authority figures, people who are analytic — engineers, for example — those who are unemotional and will foc ...
"Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last month, sparking a national outcry, thought the killing "would all blow over," a friend, Joe Oliver, told ABC News this morning." So George Zimmerman thought that he could just gun down an unarmed innocent teen and it would just blow over? Well over a year later we can definitively say that the child killing monster was WRONG!
George Zimmerman is suing NBC for defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. He claims the network made him look like he was racially targeting Trayvon Martin the night Zimmerman shot and killed him. Jean Casarez will join Joey Jackson to put that 911 call in focus. She’ll tell you about her conversation with Zimmerman’s attorneys about the network’s editing of that call. We’ll bring you the 911 call, in it’s entirety at 9:20 a.m. ET.
When I was reading the article on George Zimmerman this afternoon I was looking at the comments left by readers. It's frightening to me how many folks who side with Zimmerman who make such racist remarks such as "go ahead and riot black folks I armed and ready". Do you really want to turn such a tragedy into something this ridiculous! I've known people like Zimnerman who desperately want to be in law enforcement or a soldier. I've been in martial arts with people like this. More often than not they don't make it due to psychological reasons. I don't mean they are crazy so much as they are not equipped to handle tense situations. You want to be a superhero without having nerves of steel. I feel this is the type of person Zimmerman is. Above all else it is overlooked is that Zimmerman was Neighborhood Watch not a police officer. His duty as such was to observe and report not to get involved. The "Stand Your Ground" law created gray areas that allowed for this to happen. It was said there were a lot of robbe ...

To all of you still confused and upset about Zimmerman being declared innocent, here are the facts. Treyvon Martin was trespassing in a gated community he wasn't supposed to be crossing. George Zimmerman had gone through the proper channels to form a Neighborhood Watch because of recent burglaries in the area. Fearing Treyvon (Seeing as how he was trespassing, may I remind you) may be up to no good, Zimmerman called 9-1-1. Treyvon, it's safe to guess, felt threatened by either overhearing the phone call, or because Zimmerman was following him for a couple of blocks. Treyvon then backtracked to find Zimmerman at his car. Treyvon blind-sided him, knocked Zimmerman to the ground, then proceeded to smash the back of Zimmerman's head into the concrete. Zimmerman had the permits he needed to carry the weapon he had with him. Zimmerman, fearing for his life, fired upon Treyvon Martin, and killed him. This holds up in court because it corroborates with the evidence and witness statements gathered after the proper ...
Ben Lowe "Warner Brothers is pulling the trailer for Gangster Squad from theaters, thanks to a scene in which a group of men open fire on a movie theater. A few months ago, Fox decided to change the title of its comedy Neighborhood Watch to The Watch after Trayvon Martin was killed in Florida by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman."
Cheryl Brown claims her son Austin, 13, 'couldn't see anything' despite walking past the scene as Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman shot unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
Updated 1:52 p.m. ET: George Zimmerman, the man charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, has reported to the Seminole County Jail in Sanford, Fla. two days after a judge revoked his bail.
Click Here Florida shooter George Zimmerman back in jail Reuters - Sun, 3rd Jun 2012 06:02 PM MIAMI (Reuters) - George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer charged in the Florida killing of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, returned to jail on Sunday after a court revoked his bond and ordered him to turn himself in to authorities. Zimmerman arrived at the Sanford County jail in Sanford, Florida, shortly after 1:40 p.m. (1740 GMT) traveling in a white mini-van accompanied by sheriff's deputies and his attorney, Mark O'Mara. On Friday a judge revoked Zimmerman's USD 150,000 bond, posted in April while he was awaiting trial, after prosecutors accused him of withholding one of two valid passports and said his wife did not tell the court about money donated for his legal defense. Some people seem desperate to justify the death of this young man, turning this tragedy into a political, liberal v conservative football [they isn't alone in this as they have their counterparts on the left but they is the focus of this post]. So let's review some facts instead of posturing. 1. The "Stand Your Ground" law allows a person minding their own business to defend themselves if assaulted. If they are assaulted then they may use deadly force if they feel their life is in danger. 2. George Zimmerman was doing a "neighborhood watch" patrol when he saw Treyvon Martin walking down the street on his way home from the store. 3. Zimmerman was armed which is a violation of the rule under which Neighborhood Watch program participants are allowed to patrol. 4. Zimmerman called in his suspicion to the police and despite Neighborhood Watch rules which say he was not to confront people acting "suspiciously" and despite being told by the police dispatcher to maintain his distance and not confront Treyvon, ...
