The National Palace Museum (Guólì Gùgōng Bówùyuàn) is an Art Museum in Taipei City. It is the national museum of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and has a permanent collection of 693,507 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, making it one of the largest in the world. Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez (December 8, 1886 – November 24, 1957) better known simply as Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter born in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, and husband of Frida Kahlo (1929–1939 and 1940–1954). /5

In memory of Mexican painter and muralist Diego María de la Concepción Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodríguez, better known simply as Diego Rivera who died on this day Nov 24 in 1957. Born in Guanajuato, Guanajuato, Dec. 8, 1886, Rivera helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement. As Rivera was an unabashed atheist and Communist, his murals were often quite controversial in their treatment of the oppression of the working class by capitalists and the Church. In one of his most famous murals (in the National Palace in Mexico City), Hernan Cortez, the Spanish conquistador who conquered Mexico for Spain, is depicted as a deformed, green-faced dwarf. Another mural, Man at the Crossroads, commissioned for Rockefeller Center in New York City, was so controversial for a portrait of Vladimir Lenin that it contained that it was destroyed at the orders of John D.
