Rangers sweep Braves with 10-3 win ... Colby Lewis had a hard time recalling the last time the Texas Rangers swept a series. The answer was nearly five months ago. Lewis pitched seven innings for his 10th victory, Luis Sardinas doubled his career total with four RBIs and Texas finished off a three-game sweep of the slumping Atlanta Braves with a 10-3 win on Sunday. The only other series sweep for Texas this season was April 21-23 in a three-game set at Oakland. The last-place Rangers still have to win at least six of their last 13 games to avoid 100 losses. After being swept this weekend for a 2-7 trip, the Braves were four games behind Pittsburgh for the National League's second Wild Card with 13 games left in the regular season. They are headed back to Atlanta for a 10-game homestand. Michael Choice put the Rangers ahead to stay with an RBI triple in the second. He added a two-run double in the fifth on a play when he got hurt running the bases and left the game. Lewis (10-13) allowed five hits and walk ...

National League East Prediction: 1) Washington Nationals 2) Atlanta Braves 3) Philadelphia Phillies 4) Miami Marlins 5) NY Mets Expect the Nationals to regain their form this season as the pitching staff that was so dominate in 2012 comes back off a weak year. The Nationals are my pick to go to the World Series from the National League. The Braves have a team that can win the division, but losing McCann is going to hurt. I think the rest of the division are still pretenders. And for all the Mets fans out there Sorry you are already mathematically eliminated from post-season play this year.
The Atlanta Braves had a remarkable 2013 season, pacing the Major Leagues with a 3.18 ERA and leading all National League offenses with 181 home runs. More importantly, the Braves won their first NL East title since 2005...

berita hari ini : World Series Game 3 has a finish that will long be debated - Los Angeles Times Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis will be offering his analysis throughout the World Series. Ellis, 32, recently completed his second full season as a starter for the Dodgers by batting .333 in a National League division series against the Atlanta Braves and .316 in the NL Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Ellis is familiar with the Boston Red Sox, a team the Dodgers faced during the regular season. The final play of the game came in an inning that will be analyzed and second-guessed for what Red Sox Manager John Farrell should have done. Farrell allowed relief pitcher Brandon Workman to take his first major-league at-bat in the top of the ninth, leaving slugger Mike Napoli in the dugout with bat in hand and unused in Game 3. In the bottom of the ninth, he removed Workman after the second batter he faced and subbed in closer Koji Uehara. Uehara gave up the double to Allen Craig to put runners at se ...
I'm also cheering on the L.A. Dodgers to defeat the Atlanta Braves in their series best of five. Rather play L.A. for National League title.
Okay fearless forecasters, who is going to win the World Series. The four American League teams in the playoffs are the Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers and Oakland A's. The four National League teams are the Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, LA Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. The World Series is a best of seven-game series between the best American League team and the best National League team. I predict the series will feature the Red Sox and the Dodgers, and the Red Sox will win...I always root for the American League teams. So who do you think will win?
ASINA KOSNAN TA BAI Andrelton Simmons PREVENTED DEE GORDEN FROM STEALING 2B! As umpire Mike Muchlinski, left, watches, Los Angeles Dodgers' Dee Gordon tries to steal second base as Atlanta Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons makes the tag in the ninth inning of Game 2 of the National League division series tonight in Atlanta. The Braves won 4-3. With pinch-hitter Andre Ethier at the plate, Gordon bolted for second base. Second base umpire Bill Miller ruled that Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons received the throw from catcher Gerald Laird and tagged Gordon before he touched second base. "I felt like everything was good," Gordon said. "Simmons even blocked the bag and I felt like I got under it."
BASEBALL Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced Thursday that he will retire once his contract expires on January 24, 2015. The 79-year-old Selig has served in the commissioner's role since September of 1992, initially on an acting basis following the resignation of Fay Vincent, and was given permanent duties in 1998. During Selig's reign, baseball split the American and National League into three divisions each with a Wild Card for expanded playoffs, implemented interleague play, added a second Wild Card and also introduced instant replay. His time as commissioner was not without controversy, however, as performance-enhancing drug scandals became prevalent under his watch, although -- thanks in part to Congress -- he has helped author one of the most stringent drug policies in sports. Major League Baseball handed down one-game suspensions to Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez and Atlanta Braves outfielder Reed Johnson for their roles in a benches clearing incident on Wednesday. Today in Sports History... On May 27, 1904, a National League record of 5 stolen bases by one guy in the same game was established by Dennis "Dan" or "Cap" McGann of the New York Giants against Brooklyn. This NL record stood unequaled & unbeaten until it was matched by Dodger Davey Lopes in 1974. It was then matched several times during the 1980s, and finally broken in 1991, when the Atlanta Braves' player, Otis Nixon, stole 6 bases in a game against the Montreal Expos.

This Day in History...February 2nd On February 2, 1876, the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, which comes to be more commonly known as the National League (NL), is formed. The American League (AL) was established in 1901 and in 1903, the first World Series was held. The first official game of baseball in the United States took place in June 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings became America’s first professional baseball club. In 1871, the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players was established as the sport’s first “Major League.” Five years later, in 1876, Chicago businessman William Hulbert formed the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs to replace the National Association, which he believed was mismanaged and corrupt. The National League had eight original members: the Boston Red Stockings (now the Atlanta Braves), Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago Cubs), Cincinnati Red Stockings, Hartford Dark Blues, Louisville Grays, ...

Happy Birthday ~ January 13 ~ Robert Herbert Forsch (January 13, 1950 – November 3, 2011) Forsch spent most of his sixteen years with the St. Louis Cardinals (1974–1988) before finishing his playing career with the Houston Astros (1988–1989). He was a member of the 1982 World Series Champions and National League (NL) pennant winners in 1985 and 1987. A twenty-game winner in 1977, he is third among all Cardinals pitcher in victories with 163. He is also the only player in team history to pitch more than one no-hitter, achieving it twice in 1978 and 1983. Along with Ken Forsch, they are the only brothers to have each performed the feat in the majors. After nine seasons in the majors, Forsch made it to the postseason for the first time in his career in 1982. He also earned his first career save on May 15 against the Atlanta Braves. He got the game one start in the 1982 National League Championship Series, and held the Atlanta Braves to three hits while striking out six. He also went 2-for-3 with an R . ...
Reed Johnson, the top pinch hitter in the National League last season, rejoined the Atlanta Braves on Thursday with a one-year contract that includes a club option for 2014.
I sure wish that the Tigers would face my National League team, the Atlanta Braves instead of the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. I would'nt care who wins that one since I'm a fan of both!
One of the most successful field managers in the history of the National League, Frank Selee led the 19th century Boston Beaneaters to five pennants and transformed the struggling Chicago Cubs into champions. 1964 Milwaukee Braves ask National League to move to Atlanta
That was a pretty bitter pill to swallow yesterday for the Atlanta Braves. Last year they choked up a ten game Wild Card lead from late August and lost their spot to the Cardinals who then ran the table of play-off series to the Championship. And yesterday they disgraced themselves with fielding mishaps & lost, at home, to the Cardinals. And while my White Sox have been disposed of, the Cardinals are my favorite National League team. I bet you can guess why (can't you cub fans, who are your most hated rivals in the NL).
The Red and Orange Birds have it! On the very 1st night of the 2012 Major League Baseball Postseason, both the defending World Series Champions, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Baltimore Orioles advance to the National League & American League Division Series this weekend as the 2 birdie ball clubs win their respective 1-game elimination Wild Card playoff games/affairs in their respective leagues last night. The Cardinals eliminate the Atlanta Braves, winning in the N.L. Wild Card elimination contest, 6-3, at Ted Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia (although, a huge controversial "infield fly" rule/call by the leftfield umpire in the bottom of the 8th Inning made a huge, gigantic difference in this particular postseason game). Then the Orioles go on to oust the Texas Rangers in their A.L. Wild Card elimination outing, prevailing easily, 5-1, at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in Arlington, Texas. The St. Louis Cardinals will host the N.L. East Champions, Washington Nationals, in Game 1 of their Best-Of-Five N ...

Atlanta Braves faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild Card playoff.
Just got home from the stadium. What a day and even better nite. Oakland A's made history as being the 1st game to clinch division coming back from a five game deficit with nine games or less remaining. Texas Rangers facing possible collapse even though they are in the postseason dance. They're fortunate that they have a Wild Card home game versus the Baltimore Orioles. For the NL Wild Card, it's the World Series champs St. Louis Cardinals versus the Atlanta Braves. If anyone remembered that the Braves and one other team whom will not be mention collasped last season. The Braves did not let the collapse affect them and will host the Cards. Congratulations to Miguel "Miggy" Cabrera of winning the Triple Crown. He led the league in homers, RBIs, and batting average and becoming the 1st player to accomplish the feat since Carl "Yaz" Yastrzemski in 1967. Washington Nationals earned home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs with a victory and a Cincinnati Reds lost to the Cards. I ...

Extremely happy for one of my childhood hero sports figures Chipper Jones gets a chance to compete in the postseason in his final season as a Major League player. The Atlanta Braves have clinched a spot in the playoffs and even though I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan, I will certainly be cheering on my all-time favorite National League team. This guy is truly amazing and will surely be missed when his time is done. A first ballot Hall of Famer, no question and the perfect role model for any kid to look up to. Chip, you always played the game the right way your entire career. Now it's time to be rewarded with one final send off in October. Go get 'em Chip, I believe in you. Always have, always will.
Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves, 2012 National League wildcard play-in game participant.*
The Atlanta Braves in Chipper Jones' last season is playoff bound. In the National League there is one more spot left with the Cardinals, Brewers, Dogers and Phillies have a serious shot.
Today's Date in History: 1957 - The (Milwaukee) Atlanta Braves clinch the National League pennant, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals, 4 - 2, thanks to Hank Aaron's 11th-inning home run. It is the first time since 1950 that a New York team hasn't finished first.
Today's Date in History: 1993 - Tom Glavine of the Atlanta Braves becomes the first National League pitcher in twenty years to win twenty games in three consecutive years. Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins of the Chicago Cubs was the last to do the trick.
Today's Date in Baseball: In 1962 Warren Edward Spahn hits his 31st career homer, off Craig Anderson, setting a National League record for pitchers, in a 6-1 Milwaukee (Atlanta Braves) win. The New York Mets suffer their 11th straight loss. And in 1978, the Mets Nino Espinosa gives up Johnny Bench's 300th career home run, but the Cincinnati Reds bow to the Mets, 12-3.
If the Atlanta Braves are able to overtake the Washington Nationals and win the National League East division, they will definitely look back on tonight's win in D.C. as a pivotal game. The Braves just won a game 11-10 in extra innings and they were down at one point 9-0. I really think this is going to be a very devastating loss to the Nationals. I think the wind was really taken out of their sails tonight. A huge win for Atlanta!
~Sports Minute: Following the All-Star break, the Atlanta Braves are in second place in the National League East Division, 4 games behind the league-leading Washington Nationals. The Braves return home to Turner Field tomorrow night to host the New York Mets. Tim Hudson (7-4, 3.56) will toe the rubber for Atlanta, opposed by Chris Young (2-2, 3.41) for New York. The first pitch is at 7:35PM EDT. Chop Chop! Go Braves!!!~
Atlanta Braves legend Chipper Jones, who is retiring this fall after 19 MLB seasons, gave a heartfelt pre-game speech to his National League cohorts before Tuesday’s All-Star Game that served as the springboard for the royal whupping (pun intended) that the NL layed on the AL in an All-Star rout…
Chipper Jones said he didn't want to go out a loser, it happened, he's a winner. During, his National League squad routed the American League 8 to nothing in the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. His only at bat came with a slap shot attempt at a base hit, Texas Rangers Ian Kinsler "misplaying" the ball, jeers and smiles down the 90 feet to first base and a perfect average. Going 1 for 1, Jone's in his 8th and final All-Star appearance leaves a legacy that will forever hold him as the top three greatest switch hitters to ever be ambidextrous in all of Major League Baseball and an Atlanta Braves icon.
Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond has been scratched from the All-Star Game because of an abdominal injury. The decision was made Saturday after Desmond consulted with team doctors, management and National League manager Tony La Russa.Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Bourn will replace Desmond on the NL roster.Desmond has been dealing with an oblique injury since mid-June. He has missed only one game this season, and having time off during the All-Star break should help the healing process.Desmond is hitting .282 after going 2 for 3 with his 16th home run in Saturday's game against Colorado. He was added to the All-Star Team by La Russa. It was the first time Desmond was selected to play in the All-Star Game.Bourn had lost to David Freese in online voting for one of the final spots. He made the NL All-Star Team for the second time. He entered Saturday's game at Philadelphia with a .305 batting average, seven homers, 32 RBIs and 23 stolen bases.

Chipper Jones absorbed every moment of a performance he said he'll cherish in retirement. The newly chosen All-Star, delivered his first five-hit game in a decade, driving in four runs Tuesday night and leading the Atlanta Braves over the Chicago Cubs 10-3.
Congratulations Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves on your selection to the National League all-Star Team followed by a 5 hits in 5 at bats, 4 RBI game and some great fielding plays tonight against the Cubbies. You are truly an all star both on and off the field.
Feared by opposing hitters and beloved in Atlanta, Phil Niekro was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997 and leads all knuckleball pitchers with 318 career wins. I was hoping Kemp would win again. Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman has been named National League Player of the Week for the period of April 16-22, 2012. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network. Freeman hit .478 (11-for-23), good for third in the National League, while pacing the Majors with 14 RBI, a 1.087 slugging percentage and five doubles on the week. In addition, his 25 total bases were tops among National Leaguers while his three home runs tied for first.
today would have been Ken Caminiti's 49th birthday.
