National League Championship Series

In Major League Baseball, the National League Championship Series (NLCS) is a round in the postseason that determines who wins the National League pennant and advances to Major League Baseball's championship, the World Series, facing the winner of the American League Championship Series.

"And, ultimately, these are the 2014 San Francisco Giants. They do what they do, they don’t know exactly how they do it, but they’ve done it too long not to be able to do it some more. The St. Louis Cardinals know this from 2012, and trust us on this, they will look upon the Giants in Game One of the National League Championship Series as what they have finally revealed themselves to be: The mutant product of the Insane Clown Posse and a gathering of warlocks. There are forces here that neither they nor we fully understand, but take care to wear rubbed-soled shoes to prevent electrical shocks. This is way more than Torture. This is the occult with cleats."

The Los Angeles Dodgers today clinched the 2014 National League West Division Championship, the club’s second consecutive and 13th overall division crown. The Dodgers will play in the postseason for the fifth time in the last nine years and will play “October Baseball” for the 28th time in franchise history (19th time in Los Angeles). It also marks the seventh time in franchise history that the club has reached the postseason in consecutive years (Source: Stats, LLC). Don Mattingly led the Dodgers to a division title for the second time in four seasons as manager, while General Manager Ned Colletti assembled his fourth division champion and fifth postseason-bound club in nine seasons since 2006. Under Colletti, the Dodgers previously reached the National League Championship Series after winning division titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and qualified for the postseason as the N.L. Wild Card in 2006 (tied for division title). After going 92-70 last year, Los Angeles has won 91 games through its first 15 ...

Kirk Gibson is a MSU icon. He also led the Tigers & Dodgers to World Championships in baseball. Of all his accomplishments America will best remember Gibson for the dramatic home run he hit for the Dodgers against the Athletics in the 1988 World Story. Here’s the story. "A gimpy-knee Kirk Gibson was so hurt that he could hardly walk to the plate as a last-minute, late-inning, pinch-hitter in the 1988 World Series against the highly-favored Oakland As. Gibson was the Dodger’s rock that year. The left-fielder, he played in 150 games and hit .290. He scored 106 runs, hit 25 HRs, had 76 RBIs, and stole 31 bases. A late addition to the club that year, Gibson didn’t even sign a contract until a month or so before reporting to Spring Training. Even though he had a stellar year, Gibson was seriously hurt during the National League Championship Series. Because of that, he wasn’t supposed to play in the World Series. He was hurting so badly that he had trouble walking across his living room that morning. B ...
In 1998, 10 year old Dana watched Sammy Sosa smack home run after home run from front row seats behind the visitors batters circle at Wrigley Field. On October 14, 2003, 15 year old Dana's heart was shattered while sitting in the grand stands of Wrigley with her dad for Game 6 of the National League Championship Series...The Cubs blew a 3–0 lead and eventually the series that would've allowed Cubs fans to die happy. On May 30 2008, 20 year old Dana saw the Cubs make their most improbable comeback to date beating Colorado 10-9 (bouncing back from deficits of 8-0 and 9-1 to turn the ballpark upside-down). Just three of my most impressionable Wrigley memories and prime examples of why this club means more to me than an excuse to get smashed and bar hop (though that's fun too). Some of my highest highs and lowest lows can be traced back to this incredible venue. Couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate Wrigley Field's birthday from the Wrigley Field bleachers!
I have been a golf pro my whole adult life...but BASEBALL is my first true love! ( Thats me...I know I look about 12...ha...I was 20)...Baseball is back! Baseball lovers: predictions- I am a Kansas City Royals & Florida Marlins lover. Royals may be good finally..Marlins..well. I see an LA Dodgers vs Washington Nationals National League Championship Series...and a Detroit Tigers vs Texas Rangers American League Series. I pick the Dodgers to win a title. I think its a long goodbye year in Da Bronx for the Yankees and classy Derek Jeter. St Louis Cardinals, SF Giants, Tampa Bay, Boston Red Sox and KANSAS CITY ROYALS could be contenders too. If ya have a pick, fire away!
Graduate School Update by Keith Today is the last day to sign up for Obama-care and opening day at Shea. I remember the AIDS unit at Bellevue in 86 where I watched the famous game 7 of the National League Championship Series and much of the World Series from little televisions at my patients bed sides. I am watching this ESPN special on the infamous play between Steve Bartman the Cubs FAN and Moises Alou of the Chicago Cubs. Just unbelievable footage from the 2002 National League Championship Series and how one play can determine an outcome of the series. Even the *** Governor Rod Blagojevich, at the time jumped on the bandwagon of lynching Bartman. Why would ESPN relive this and open old wounds that never will heal (unless they make the World Series) and Hartman goes back into Witness Protection? Watching this makes no sense for a CUBS fan to relive this.
ATTENTION AVL TOURIST FANS: PRESS RELEASE The Colorado Rockies announced that former Tourists infielder and 2013 Manager Fred Ocasiowill return to lead the Asheville Tourists for the 2014 campaign. Ocasio will once again be joined in the Tourists’ dugout by Development Supervisor Marv Foley; Hitting Coach Mike Devereaux; and the 2013 South Atlantic League Trainer of the Year, Billy Whitehead. New to the Tourists staff and in his first year with the Rockies organization is Pitching Coach Mark Brewer. Ocasio has spent the past 18 seasons as a member of the Rockies’ organization. Fred’s coaching career started in Rookie ball with Tucson in 1998 prior to moving up to Class A Salem in 2000. A year later he became the hitting coach at Tri-City in the Northwest League. In 2006, Ocasio became the Dust Devils’ manager and skippered the team for the next seven years. During that time he guided Tri-City to the NWL championship series on three occasions and compiled an overall record of 264-268. In 2013, Oca ...
Garagiola turned to broadcasting following his retirement as a player, first calling Cardinals radio broadcasts on KMOX from 1955 to 1962. As an announcer, Garagiola is best known for his almost 30-year association with NBC television. He began doing national baseball broadcasts for the network in 1961 (teaming with Bob Wolff). Additionally, Garagiola called several World Series on NBC Radio in the 1960s, teaming with a number of announcers including By Saam and George Kell. After a stint doing New York Yankees games from 1965 to 1967 that saw him call Mickey Mantle's 500th home run, Garagiola returned to broadcasting NBC baseball, initially as the host of the pre-game show The Baseball World of Joe Garagiola and then as a play-by-play announcer beginning in 1974. Garagiola alternated play-by-play duties with Curt Gowdy on NBC until 1976, when he assumed the role full-time. He teamed with color commentator Tony Kubek from 1976 to 1982; in 1983, he shifted to color commentary as Vin Scully joined the netwo ...

The best way to cure the heartbreak of a foregone football season: the rediscovery of ones love for baseball. An MLB Network documentary last night actually had me hoping that the Giants could find a way to beat the Pirates in the 1971 National League Championship Series. Is it April yet?
I just heard John Smoltz say in game seven of the 1991 National League championship series the Braves figured out John Smiley was tipping off his change up when he was in the stretch. Hadn't heard that before.
Fourteen points about the ’14 Dodger schedule Jon SooHoo/©Los Angeles Dodgers, LLC 2013 By Jon Weisman As you know by now, the Dodgers don’t exactly have a conventional opening to the regular season, with two regular-season games in Australia, followed by three exhibitions against the Angels before the campaign proper resumes March 30 at San Diego. The home opener is April 4 against the Giants. Schedule intrigue continues throughout the season. Here are 14 things to remember about the 2014 slate. The Dodgers have never opened their regular season overseas. Their last comparable trip, to China, was for a pair of exhibition games March 14-15, 2008. Subsequently, Los Angeles began its season with a 5-0 shutout of the Giants on March 31, then went 13-13 in April and 46-49 before the All-Star Break before kicking it into gear to reach the National League Championship Series. Detroit comes to Dodger Stadium on April 8-9, marking the earliest visit ever to Dodger Stadium by an American League team. Six of t ...

Both my favorite sports teams had a lousy weekend. The Dodgers lost their National League Championship Series series, 4-2, to the outstanding St. Louis Cardinals, falling 9-0 in the final game Friday night. Meanwhile, the USC Trojans, missing their No. 1 running back and No. 1 wide receiver (most of the game), stumbled and bumbled their way to a very disappointing 14-10 loss at Notre Dame on Saturday night. The loss to Notre Dame was a far greater disappointment. The Trojans dominated the game, threatened throughout the game to blow the Irish off the field, then, through easy missed field goals and lame holding and other offensive line penalties that killed at least two would-be game-winning drives, lost a game against their biggest rival, a game they should have won, 38-14. This was a sad game to watch and left me sad. The Dodgers, on the other hand, made a distinct leap forward from last year, reaching the elite of Major League Baseball as one of the top four teams (only two teams, the Red Sox and the C ...
David M must have written? this This is it. This is Clayton Kershaw’s MOST important start of his career, and it couldn’t come at a better time for the Dodgers. He is going to win the Cy Young Award and it will show in tonights Game in St Louis The Dodgers took two-of-three from the Cardinals in Los Angeles, but because they failed to steal one of the first two games of the National League Championship Series, Kershaw is next on the list of pitchers to help the Dodgers stave off elimination. He is the man to do so If guys like Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and even A.J. Ellis can stay hot, the Dodgers just might have a chance to pull this series out. But first, they have to win Game 6. Obviously, it’d be better if the Dodgers were up in the series, but if they have to be down, I want no other pitcher on the mound than the next Sandy Koufax. Make it happen, Clayton! Baseball News Dustin Nosler aka David M :=))
National League Championship Series, Game 6: STL Nine, LA Zip. The best players in the world are still human while the upstarts can be world beaters. Clayton Kershaw picked the worst time to have his worst outing of the season as Michael Wacha and the St.Louis Cardinals picked a great time to have their best on display. What could have gone wrong for the Los Angeles Dodgers went wrong and what could have gone right for the Cardinals went right. It all began with Matt Carpenter's 11-pitch at-bat that resulted in a double in the fateful 3rd inning; the Redbirds would light the scoreboard with kryptonite as they batted around a career-high 48-pitch inning from Kershaw for four runs. They would send another nine men to the plate, pushing across five more runs, two innings later to effectively seal the Dodgers coffin. That's why you work the count; you make the opposing pitcher reach for his best stuff. "This one's on me... I didn't have it tonight," said Kershaw, the National's League's earned run average lea ...

Let's Go Cardinals! Great read to all the Cardinal fans! Tired of Cardinals? Not so fast! Led by Rookie of the Year candidate Shelby Miller, the Cardinals have a seemingly endless supply of young talent on the way. (Getty Images) By Marc Normandin There are many people -- none of them from St. Louis -- who are tired of the Cardinals. The organization has been incredibly successful, both historically and currently, so that Cards fatigue is understandable. They've produced a winning record in 13 of the last 14 seasons, making it to the World Series three times (winning twice), and reached four additional National League Championship Series on top of that. If you're hoping that eventually the players that power the Cardinals' core will get old and vanish, well, that can certainly happen. Matt Holliday won't be around forever, Carlos Beltran is a free agent after this year, and we've already possibly seen the end of Chris Carpenter. The thing is, though, that St. Louis isn't going anywhere, because the pieces ...

Good morning, Humans. Well, our expletive deleted New York Yankees have been eliminated from Baseball's Postseason --- again --- which makes me a grumpy guy and Fox a grumpy network because the last couple of years, Fox Sports' World Series broadcasts have all sucked. So, y'know what? As of right now, I only want one thing from Baseball's Postseason: the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Championship Series. If nothing else, it'll make a clean break from the We're-gonna-miss-you-Mo nonsense. Besides, the Mets have a better Christmas Party than the Yankees do anyway. Never mind that Mr. Met is still Baseball's ugliest mascot; at least the Mets find somebody who is, a, cool; b, has some not-doing-anythng time on his hands and c, can properly fit into a Santa Claus suit. Wonder who it'll be this year. Anyway, here's the story behind the company that brings you M&M's Chocolate Candies: Mars, Inc.
Just in case you forgot, Keith Olbermann will be the MLB on TBS studio host for the rest of this season all the way through the National League Championship Series. Keith begins this Sunday hosting the MLB Sunday Pregame before Reds vs. Pirates.

How is this a "world" championship when it's the "National" Football League. (I ask the same of the World Series every year).
Birthdays for ~ January 21 ~ José Altagracia González Uribe (January 21, 1959 – December 8, 2006) was a Dominican Major League Baseball shortstop from 1984 until 1993. Most of his ten-year career was spent with the San Francisco Giants. He played for the Giants in the 1989 World Series against the Oakland Athletics, which is famous for having been interrupted by the Loma Prieta earthquake. Uribe was the Giants' principal shortstop for eight seasons, including their 1987 National League Western Division championship and 1989 National League pennant, leading the league with 85 double plays in the latter season. In the 1987 National League Championship Series he had a 2-run single with the bases loaded in the second inning of Game 5, giving the Giants a 4-3 lead. He then stole third base and scored as the Giants won 6-3 for a 3-2 series lead, though San Francisco went on to lose the final two games. He won the 1988 Willie Mac Award honoring his spirit and leadership. Born in San Cristóbal, Dominican Rep ...
(CNN) -- Baseball Hall of Famer and St. Louis Cardinals great Stan Musial has died, according to his former team. He was 92. "We have lost the most beloved member of the Cardinals family," said William DeWitt Jr., the club's chairman. "Stan Musial was the greatest player in Cardinals history and one of the best players in the history of baseball." Musial died Saturday evening at his Ladue, Missouri, home surrounded by family, the Cardinals said in a statement. The Pennsylvania-born Musial transitioned from a lackluster pitcher to a stellar slugging outfielder, according to his biography on the National Baseball Hall of Fame's website. The left-hander hit above .300 17 times during his 22-year career -- all with St. Louis -- and earned three National League Most Valuable Player awards, as well as three World Series titles. The only blip came in 1945, in the thick of World War II, when he left baseball to join the U.S. Navy. Stan Musial waves to fans during the 2012 National League Championship Series. Stan ...
a true story to make you cry. if your familiar with it cool, if not you should give this a read. the chicken runs at midnight Amy Donnelly was 17 years old and a senior at Arlington (Texas) High School when she went for an eye exam, and the doctor discovered she had no peripheral vision in her right eye. The doctor recommended an MRI, and they found a tumor behind her eye. The tumor was malignant, and doctors gave her very little time to survive after the diagnosis in the spring of 1993. Amy's father, Rich Donnelly was a third base coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates when they played the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series. Although chemotherapy treatments prevented Amy from attending games during the season, she did get the chance to attend a playoff game in Atlanta. When she saw her dad cupping his hands around his mouth while shouting to base runners, Amy wondered what he could be saying. After the game, she asked him, "What the heck were you saying to those guys at second -- the c ...
If we had the same type of media and victim culture in 1988 as we do now. The media would be looking to fire Tommy Lasorda for allowing MVP Kirk Gibson, who could barely walk due to injuries suffered during the National League Championship Series, to hit a pinch-hit, walk-off home run against Athletics closer Dennis Eckersley in Game 1. Instead he would have been described as a victim and the media would be trying to get the federal government to stop the violence in MLB.
