Two of the dogs, identified as Nana and Roja had fresh bite marks and fresh blood on their front sides, and were so gaunt their bones were showing through their skin. According to Jed Painter, head of the district attorney’s animal crimes unit, the animals were being kept inside a “shut-up shed” about the size of a single-car garage, along with chickens and a rabbit. Investigators also seized dogfighting paraphernalia including heavy restraint chains, a treadmill with wooden frame and a training stick with a stuffed animal attached used to bait the dogs into attacking. Hello Roosevelt, I received this email from Clara Gillens-Eromosele she is a Community Activist in Roosevelt. Please read and share . In November 2013, Officer Sharpe was falsely arrested and charged with resisting arrest. This is ridiculous as Officer Sharpe has herself been a member of the Nassau County Police Department for over 19 years. A real supporter and partner of the Roosevelt and Uniondale communities. Some of you know that I was the coordinator of the Weed and Seed Project in Roosevelt for 6 years and in Uniondale for 3 years. During that time I met Officer Dolores Sharpe. Officer Sharpe worked for the first Pct. for a time and then at Community Affairs also as a school resource officer. She has served on TAG (task force against gangs), she is highly regarded in the community as someone who taught DARE (drug awareness), and GREAT (Gang Resistance Through Education and Training), was a member of the community policing unit, AND ran workshops on what to do when stopped by the police! She ...
Police Officers are human. They are capable of hard work, heroism, and taking on personal risk to safety that the rest of us generally do not. They are also capable of the same mistakes, errors in judgment, and criminal acts as the rest of society. Interesting case breaking today out of NYC demonstrates that very point: "One retired police officer who told the government he was too psychologically damaged to work ran a martial arts studio, prosecutors said. Another claimed his depression was so crippling it kept him house-bound, but he was photographed aboard a watercraft, they said. A third man who said he was incapable of social interactions manned a cannoli stand at a street festival. All were wrongly receiving thousands of dollars in federal disability benefits, prosecutors said Tuesday in announcing a sweeping fraud case involving scores of retired officers, firefighters and jail guards. The retirees faked psychiatric problems, authorities said, and many falsely claimed their conditions arose after t ...
Important information to know and share during these freezing times. Stay safe, and keep your eyes and ears open for friends and family who may need help. Nassau County Police Department When exposed to cold temperatures, your body begins to lose heat faster than it can be produced. Prolonged exposure to cold will eventually use up your body’s stored energy. The result is hypothermia, or abnormally low body temperature. Body temperature that is too low affects the brain, making the victim unable to think clearly or move well. This makes hypothermia particularly dangerous because a person may not know it is happening and won’t be able to do anything about it. Hypothermia is most likely at very cold temperatures, but it can occur even at cool temperatures (above 40°F) if a person becomes chilled from rain, sweat, or submersion in cold water. Victims of hypothermia are often (1) elderly people with inadequate food, clothing, or heating; (2) babies sleeping in cold bedrooms; (3) people who remain outdoor ...

Nassau County Police Department... Hungry thief orders burger before cash grab. The true meaning of fast food to go ...!! This crook like the fast food so much he came back for seconds – and robbed the place. A man ordered a hamburger at a Long Island Burger King, paid his tab and left. Five minutes later, he came back wearing a mask and ordered another burger – before calmly grabbing cash from a register and making a clean getaway. “He ordered a hamburger. He liked it so much he came back and ordered a second one. Then he grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from the register,” said Officer Steve Zacchia, a Nassau police spokesman. Zacchia would not say how much cash the hamburglar escaped with. “We don’t want to encourage this type of behavior. Seriously,” he said. Nassau County Police say the bizarre heist occurred Sunday about 4:55 p.m. at the fast food joint on Long Beach Road in Oceanside. Cops said the hungry suspect waited until the cashier opened the register before he walked behin ...

BREAKING: Nassau County Police confirming that "no shots" were fired at Roosevelt Field Mall and are currently investigating an "incident." Updates to follow.
UIW Officer shoots, kills student, SAPD Officer shot in head while pursuing robbery suspects, Nassau County Police shoot and kill Hofstra University student, 3 Miami Dade Officers shot, 3 others injured during pursuit/shoot out with suspect, Bexar County Deputies shoot subject involved in pursuit after he rams Deputy's patrol cars. These are my random thoughts which I will preface by saying I wasn't there for any of the incidents but I am looking back at them as a 38 year + law enforcement veteran and (some friends will question this) a fairly sane person: The parents of the UIW student say his reported actions were "totally out of character".. As a parent and a former university police officer, I know children away from home do a lot of things that are totally out of character as far as their parents are concerned; Did the publically announced "No Pursuit" SAPD policy contribute to the officers shooting? Did the suspects in this case know about the policy, thinking that they could get away by fleeing and ...

Nassau County Police will be crucified over this but they should not be. Horrific outcome. Ex-con Dalton Smith, 30, was using Andrea Rebello, 21, as a human shield and holding her in a headlock Friday night when he pointed his loaded 9-mm. handgun at a cop, authorities said. “I’m going to kill her,” Smith barked, according to cops. A Friendly Message from Commissioner of Police Thomas V. Dale: Identity Theft, considered to be the fastest growing crime in the country, has been referred to as the “number one financial and consumer crime of the information age.” Identity Theft is an ingredient of everyday credit card fraud, of multimillion dollar financial schemes, and of computer/Internet crimes. Victims of Identity Theft often suffer financial loss and damaged credit ratings, not to mention the considerable aggravation and inconvenience of trying to set their financial records straight. It is for these reasons that members of the Nassau County Police Department are particularly vigilant in responding to crimes involving Identity Theft. We ask you, the public, to be vigilant as well. Help us to protect you. Call the police if you suspect you are the victim of Identity Theft. The material in this brochure is designed to prevent you from becoming a target and to assist you if you have been victimized by Identity Theft.
Nassau County Police will allocate additional police officers to conduct an extensive DWI enforcement initiative this Memorial Day weekend.
