My response: The final goal is indeed to reach a state of mind where one can accept the fruits of all karmas as prasad of Lord, with an equanimous mind. However, it is not easy. When we receive the fruits of some really terrible karmas, our mind gets so twisted and agitated that we lose our balance and our judgment gets badly beated. This may result in further bad karmas being committed in that agitated/confused state. Thus, it IS sometimes useful to push off some really bad impending karmas when one is still in a position to do so. It is often said that in India reforms happens only when there is crisis. It took the severe balance of payments crisis of 1991 for P. V. Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh to liberalize the Indian economy, something Rajiv Gandhi was unable to do despite a comfortable parliament majority. The Indian economy is at present in a state of crisis. The rate of growth is the lowest in a decade. The fiscal and current account deficits are almost as bad as in 1991. The UPA has done minimal reform in the last nine years. It has in fact done worse, returning to the some of worst practices and excesses to the license era. Budget 2013 was a perfect platform for Finance Minister P. Chidambaram to boost the sagging confidence of business community. Disappointingly, he only tinkered at the edges. Owing to the enormous cases of corruption and the great surge in prices, the Government at the Centre knows fully that it is not possible for it to come back to power unless something extraordinary happens. What remains to be watched is what drastic measures it aims at taking. Rajeev Gandhi had been routed in North India but his execution brought Narasimha Rao to power through the support of South Indian MPs. Whether those who planned Rajeev Gandhi's murder knew these implications or not will perhaps never be known. There have been various other cases where certain extra-ordinary events or happenings changed the public's mindset. If Congress was to come back to power, we will have to see what those extra-ordinary events or happenings will be that will change the mindset of people in as short a period as one year. Otherwise, Congress is en route to getting routed.
