Nairobi-Accra relations boosted by ambitious agreements Kenya and Ghana have stated their desire to renew the ties between them with the pre-independence bonds established by Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Kenya’s founding President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta serving as its foundation at the end of the three day visit of President John Dramani Mahama to Nairobi. It was the first time that a sitting Ghanaian president visited the country. Several agreements that will bolster economic developments were signed. Presdeint Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed his Ghanaian counterpart with whom he discussed plans of their countries serving as effective sub-regional aviation hubs in their respective regions. Ghana is the second largest economy in West Africa after Nigeria while Kenya occupies the first position in East Africa. Plans to develop intra-African trade and means of avoiding double taxation as well as the protection of investments of their citizens were considered by the two Head of States. After the d ...
Three Presidents of Kenya. When Uhuru Kenyatta was born, his dad,the First President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta never thought his son could one day climb political ladder & became President.During Kenyatta's death in 1978,his son now President was still a teenager,17 years old. Before the First President died,he left his successor Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi who was then his Vice President with one major condition;"hold my son's hand(s) to State House when you retire." Moi ruled Kenya in the next 24 years later and when Kenyans went blutant with his leadership,he surprisingly endorsed Uhuru Kenyatta for Presidency in 2002.At that time Uhuru was only 38 years old and when elections were held later that year,3rd President,Mwai Kibaki won landslidely on a Narc Ticket by garnering 6m votes against 3m of Kenyatta.Kibaki's win got boost from Rt.Hon Raila Odinga who rallied "Kibaki Tosha" as he was on a wheel chair @ that time.UK is now Kenya's 4th President, three & half decades later after his father's death#

The popular Kenyan philosophy of Harambee, used widely to mobilize people or resources to achieve a common goal, originated from the Hindu word Har (to Praise) and Ambe (an Indian goddess or deity) during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda railway in the early 1900’s. It was a way of motivating Africans to work harder. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta emphasized on the harambee spirit. As i observe young people fighting all odds to empower themselves i realize the best way to move forward as a people is by working together towards a common goal. Support a kenyan youth by buying products made in kenya, giving advice, networking with them. However small you might think your effort has been, to someone else that which you perceive has nothing might be all they need to succeed in whatever they set out to do.
Orange Party asked to apologize: Leaders of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have been challenged to apologize for chaos that marred President Kenyatta’s rally in Migori on Monday. Starehe MP, Maina Kamanda, has said the party leader, Raila Odinga, should come openly and ask Kenyans for forgiveness for what happenened when the president was taking development goodies to the people of Migori. He said it was shameful to see youth who were paid to disrupt the meeting saying the institution of presidency should be respected as provided in the constitution. Kamanda spoke as he was addressing residents of Murang’a in Gitugi and Gikoe markets as he led parliamentary committee on Transport, Public works and Housing to inspect the ongoing construction of St Mary- Gitugi-Mioro road. The legislator said what happened in Migori is a repetition on what happened in Kisumu during the Mzee Jomo Kenyatta visit in 1969 when rowdy youths disrupted his meeting. He reiterated that the government has elaborate plans to spe ...
MASONIC-HISTORY OF FREE MASONS IN KENYA.AND IN AFRICA. Mbiyu Koinange was more than the powerful Minister of State in the Office of the President. He was Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's bosom friend, in-law, confidant and instrumental political go-between. Mr Koinange was the man regarded as the power behind the throne in the Kenyatta presidency and one of the key decision makers in the formative years of the young nation among his guarded engagements beyond public duties, was a membership in the Freemasons Society. A letter — now part of declassified personal files — he received on June 1, 1970 from Murad Kassam, the secretary of the Freemasons, reads in part: “You are summoned to attend the Lodge at Freemasons Hall, Nairobi, on Friday 19, 1970 at 6.30 pm. The Lodge will be tyled up at 6.45 precisely. By command of the Right Worshipful Master, Brother M. Basheen Chaudry. President Uhuru Kenyatta led the country last week Friday in commemorating the 36th anniversary of the death of the Founding Father of the nation Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. Mzee Kenyatta died on August 22, 1978, after which he was succeeded by Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. But you already know your history so I’ll go straight to the point. During the commemoration period, historical images and photos were resurfacing and one that caught my attention is one where three of the country’s presidents were spectacularly caught on camera. Journalist: What is your family’s relationship with Uhuru Kenyatta? Ruth Odinga (Raila's sister): You will not believe what I’m about to say but it is the truth. There is no bad relationship between Uhuru and Raila as people put it; the two have a long history. When we were young, Raila would carry us (Uhuru and I) on his back and we grew up together as family friends. When our father (Jaramogi Oginga Odinga) was vice-president and Mzee Jomo Kenyatta was the President, we would visit each other. Uhuru would even visit us in our home in Kisumu and we would also visit them. At times I ask why they are hitting at each other. The friends you make earlier in life are your friends forever and that is the truth. We were friends and forever we will remain friends. Source: Sunday Nation

THE KENYA WE WANT; MY OWN PERSPECTIVE Our fathers, the likes of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Tom Mboya, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Dedan Kimathi, among others, fought to free us from colonial rule. Many of them were mistreated, tortured and even some of them were killed by our colonisers. There was more than enough blood-shed during that time and independence/self-rule was something anticipated for by every Kenyan. Their struggle bore fruits over 50 years ago when Kenya was granted its independence. However, the politics in the country became dirtier after independence. Political assasinations, torture and even the banning of the multi-party politics, were some of the injustices that prevailed during Jomo's and Moi's rule. Kenya's good politicians like J. M. Kariuki and Robert Ouko were killed. It all seemed like Kenya was being taken back to the colonial era. Good-willed Kenyans tried to fight the injustices in different ways but they failed oftenly since they didn't join hands and anybody who seemed to differ with ...

Kenyans of today are not Kenyans of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta' s era, neither are they of Daniel arap Moi's era.Kenyans of this age are enlightened
THE GHOST of the perennial political rivalry that existed between Kenya's founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and the doyen of opposition politics Jaramogi Oginga Odinga is apparently making an unwelcome return 50 years on...HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF? The then Vice President Jaramogi Odinga fell out with Mzee Kenyatta, Kenya's first president and KANU supremo, over ideological dynamics and conflicting governing policies which saw maverick Ker Jaramogi and his allies isolated and detained. Subsequently, a silent animosity between Jaramogi's ethnic Luo and Mzee's Kikuyu people started building up. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since that time. Nevertheless, a similar showdown albeit 'digital' is looming between the favourite sons of the two independence heroes; Uhuru Kenyatta-the incumbent president and Jubilee leader versus former premier Raila Odinga-CORD's strongman and the most seasoned opposition politician in Kenya today. The bone of contention is definitely different from their now decease ...
Very nice picture of our President and his late father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta the founding father of the nation.
Harambe harambe 1963 Kenya was born .I Geofrey Okoth was not there to witness this great occasion given it was some 30something years to my birth.Apart from this words former dictator Mzee Jomo Kenyatta said some words which loosely translated(lee oseyang ngama pande bith mondo oyak ayaka).an animal has been slaughtered he who has sharp knife should now grab. This was not a message to Kenya but it was a message to Kikuyu Land.from that point Kikuyu started to de associate themselves from other tribes in terms of wealth creation.Kikuyu started mastering thier game when it comes to money.Jomo brought to thier attention the need to grab whatever came thier way.they were enlightened on the need to stand tall on thier quest for economical survival. on the other hand were told by our Father Mzee Oginga Odinga to fight for the rule of law, democracy, human rights equality and many other aspects of good living.Luos were never told to grab. This is where the rain started beating us.this is where we went wrong...while ...

How about another Jomo Kenyatta? Not letting opportunity pass, the death of Gatundu South MP – who took over from President Uhuru – has opened up another opportunity for another Jomo Kenyatta to get into the national political limelight. A source near State House informed a local blog site that President Uhuru’s eldest son, Jomo Kenyatta, whose friends often just call Mo’ Kenyatta, has already been earmarked byThe National Alliance party to replace the late Jossy Ngugi who passed on yesterday. The entry of Jomo III may mark another road to the presidency by a filial of the founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. This may seem far fetched but the rise of President Uhuru Kenyatta from political obscurity just a decade to the presidency adds credence to it, nor is the Kenyatta family so naive to stay away from power – they have everything to lose if the do so, and, on the other hand, everything to gain both for the family and the populous Kikuyu community. Jomo III will start relatively ahead of ...

Some people are posting saying that our nation needs God n He's been with us since independence via all the leaders like Mzee Jomo Kenyatta for the foundation, Professor of Politics Hon. Daniel Torotich Arap Moi for the transformation, Hon. Mwai Kibaki for development and now Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta for devolution which all is coz of God being with us to ensure we hv God fearing leaders with doing things in a more favorable way via governance.
Social nationalism, harambee and nyayoism were the major policies that Mzee Jomo Kenyatta capitalized on for national development. When the selfish imperialists america decided to rape our forevalues and planted their evil seed on our culture, we will never ever develop.

Jomo kenyatta is a kalenjin by origin. Jomo Kenyatta's early life though shrouded in mystery can now be brought fourth. I am now able to display Jomo Kenyatta’s early portrait, his real father and why he dropped [his] Kikuyu name (Kamau). Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is believed to have been a Kipsigis who grew up among the Kikuyu. The legend goes like this. After the demise of the great Nandi Oloitorian Kipnyolei arap Turugat (Simbolei) his sons went to other parts of the Kalenjinland. One of them, Chebochok arap Boiso was to stay in Londiani in Kericho District. While in Londiani arap Bosio met a young lady later to become the mother of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. It is believed that their friendship and union resulted in the birth of Kenyatta whom we are told was originally called Johnstone Peter Kamau. Kamau’s mother Wamboi is reported to have been a widow who used to herd cattle in Londiani. She later sought employment in European farms in Central Province. While in Kikuyu land, Wamboi got married to Muigai who is ...

The Kenya political dynamics isn't spelt decisively give during pre-independence Kenya had multiple political parties. Even on independence it was the same & on wise leadership of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta he united all political parties to solely KANU. The political dynamics of African multipal-tribes in a nation has been politically stable nations but these isn't taken precisely as Neo-colonialists want to perpuate natural resources. These factors of plural democracy was instincts by western democracies champion to rock tribal politics in Kenya, in that they benefit on post independency strategy for neo-colonialism & mighty over post independency African nations- list as Kenya. It is a sad irony that in 1963, Kenyans collectively sighed with relief at the arrival of independence. Our founding fathers of the nation led by, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, identified Kenya’s then enemies as: poverty, disease and ignorance to be fought tooth and nail. These same enemies have choked the country more viciously fifty years later. Can the war against the enemies succeed in 2014?
Is it true the name came from an award from Mzee Jomo Kenyatta?
Describe.who among the following was gud in leadership? A.hayati mzee Jomo kenyatta. B.Arap Moi. C.Mwai Kibaki D.currently Uhuru Kenyatt.
Ambassador MUTHAURA is 67 years old. He started working for the Republic of Kenya under the first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta in 1973. He worked in the Moi regime, Mwai government and now gets appointed to work for the Muigai government. What is so unique about this man that Kenyans don't know? This government is losing it completely. It started with the appointment of Cabinet Secretaries where Kenyans woke up to the reality that no youth got a slot. A youth is any person who is between 18 and 35 years. And now about 30 appointees so far and no youth at all. Hey Chineke

Who are those seniles advisors to president Uhuru and DP Hon. William Ruto? Seem mzee Jomo Kenyatta was smart and had foresight for the youth in his government, He appointed youthful learned men like TJMboya, Julious kiano, Otieno and other young men in his cabinet docket. President Uhuru must be told the plain truth and he's a crusader of digital and not analogue !!

President Uhuru Kenyatta lauded for leading PEACE TALKS in South Sudan - He is too brave and a true African HERO! Like his late father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, who used to be described by Western Governments as a lion in the heart of Africa, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has been lauded for heading peace talks in war torn South Sudan. Uhuru, who arrived in the South Sudan Capital, Juba, on Thursday, led a Kenyan delegation to go and try to stop the ongoing bloodshed in the oil rich country. South Sudanese nationals who are living in Kenya under the banner of Compatriots of South Sudan for Peace described Uhuru’s move as bravery saying he has demonstrated that he can resolve the ongoing stalemate between the warring parties. The group also described the killings in Africa’s youngest state as political violence and not tribal and urged the two parties to negotiate and end the ongoing crisis. They also asked President Salva Kirr and former Vice President, Riek Machar, to go back to the drawing board and ...
We are now being told that the South Sudan conflict is political, not ethnic. Similarly, Kenyans were largely made to believe that the differences between Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga were ideological, not tribal. If the differences between the two were ideological, why did the Kikuyu-Luo animosity persist even after the death of the two leaders? Why didn't the animosity end with the end of the Cold War? But almost 25 years after the Fall of the Iron Curtain, the ethnic hatred, political differences and tribal animosity between the Kikuyu and the Luo communities are so deep-rooted and more menacing that they threaten even our very existence. Bottomline, the conflict in South Sudan is ethnic and must be nipped in the bud now or tomorrow it will be too late!
MARALAL CHRISTMAS GUIDE LOCATION: Maralal, located about 348 kms North of Nairobi, is considered the gateway to Kenya’s wild and arid North, and is a mecca for adventurers, nomads and camels. It is the headquarters of Samburu County. THE DRIVE: The road to Maralal is dusty and it’s a 7 hour drive from Nairobi. The route to Maralal via Rumuruti offers spectacular view of Kenya’s magical landscapes. Rumuruti is a corruption of the words “Remote Route. Hopefully 2014 construction of a tarmac road will kick off. PEOPLE: Maralal is a cosmopolitan town with very friendly people. Nevertheless watch out for the idlers and plastic boys who may occasionally take advantage of you. HISTORY: President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was conceived in Maralal town in a special house now known as Kenyatta house. In July 2007 he wrote in the visitors book ‘’conceived in this house in the year 1961. A pleasure to be back using my own two feet” Don’t miss to visit this historic site that is now a monument. FULL SPEECH BY H.E. DURING KENYAJAMUHURI CELEBRATION AT SAFARICOM STADIUM KASARANI . You are all aware, last week on Thursday the former President of South Africa, Hon. Nelson Mandela, passed away. There is no doubt the late Mandela will remain, even in his death, an inspiration to all people of the World who care about humanity and freedom. In this regard, it is befitting, before I proceed any further with my remarks,we all observe a minute of silence to honour this truly African icon.We pray our Mighty God rests Mandela’s soul, in everlasting peace. As we celebrate this defining moment in our history, let us also remember all those pan-Africanists whose sacrifice and unity of purpose saw the liberation of our continent. Together with our founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, Algeria’s founding President, Ahmed Ben Bella and of course Nelson Mandela, these were visionaries who saw a united Africa as the foundation ...
Please find my Jamhuri Day Speech below: JAMHURI DAY CELEBRATIONS DISTINGUISHED GUESTS; LADIES & GENTLEMEN; ALL PROTOCOLS OBSERVED I wish to thank you all for braving the vagaries of the weather to join us here today in Kiambu as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of this Great Nation. Before we proceed, let us rise and observe a moment of silence in honour of the late Nelson Mandela as the World bids him farewell and celebrates a life well lived. We are standing on a historic site. Constructed as a cricket ground, this stadium hosted the last public meeting by Mzee Jomo Kenyatta before the declaration of a State of Emergency in 1952.This was also the venue of KANU’s inception in 1960 where at a meeting held here interim officials headed by James Gichuru were selected to lead the party in preparation for Mzee Kenyatta’s release. It was here that our former head of state, President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, held the last rally to campaign for our new Constitution, which was voted for ...

According to that NTV documentary, there were only two groups who stood to benefit from the Tom Mboya assassination; KANU politicians who wanted to succeed Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and his supporters, Kenyatta himself had everything to loose and nothing to gain from the killing. The two groups were involved in a cut throat race to influence who would succeed the old man who as Koigi wa Wamwere said, was so old and sickly that it was obvious he wouldn't last long, the question was when. As to who between the two groups eliminated Tom, your guess is as good as mine!
Why Jubilee rule threatens the will of the people By- Sammy Wambua Saturday, December 7, 2013 At midnight on December 12, 1963, down came the Union Jack and up went the black, white, red and green flag of an independent Kenya. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta would be sworn in as prime minister guided by a Constitution negotiated in London while he was languishing in detention. Naturally he didn’t like some of its provisions. It enshrined a multiparty political system and a devolved system of government with regional assemblies to boot. It was a majimbo charter. Emboldened by the grand law of the land, some regional leaders considered themselves mini-presidents. Ronald Ngala, writes Duncan Ndegwa in Walking in Kenyatta Struggles, converted what is now Mombasa State House into the headquarters of the coastal government and flew a small flag on his car to the chagrin of Tom Mboya who would later pluck it off during Kenyatta’s visit to the coastal province in 1963. According to Ndegwa, Kenyatta had pronounced the Lanc ...

By Steve Mkawale and Protus Onyango Kenya: Kenya has had four Presidents, the current one being a son of the first, and they all took to office different styles of governance and symbols of radiating power and authority. President Uhuru Kenyatta exhibits the easy-going and free spirit of young ‘digital age’ national executives such as America’s Barack Obama and UK’s David Cameron. But the first two stood out in the way they exercised power and symbolized authority. Mzee Jomo Kenyatta had his fly whisk and bakora (walking stick), and beaded cap extolling the everlasting symbolism of the colors of the Kenyan flag. His successor, Mzee Daniel Moi borrowed the symbol of authority of a man in the Kalenjin heritage — rungu (baton). Both also had their subjects bear their badges on the lapels of their coats and the red Kanu shirts and ties adorned with the colours of the national flag. But enter Mwai Kibaki in 2002 and there was a little plainness in the way he exuded power, turning up at public functio ...

I have this feeling that Kenya's history, especially touching on the life and achievements(or lack of it) of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta might have been overly exaggerated and purposely skewed to idolise the very man whose ills against fellow citizens has been undocumented, For instance,Meru borders as defined by Njuri Ncheke elders went all the way to Naru Moru but today,a few steps from Timau and you are in Rift Valley(Laikipia),inhabited mostly by Kikuyus, I wish history can be re-written!

Kenya's founding president, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta publicly displayed his anger and disappointment on the eve of the inaugural Jamhuri day celebrations in 1965. Mzee Kenyatta was so infuriated after the national soccer team was thrashed 13 - 2 by Ghana, that he never attended a match involving Harambee starts until his death in 1978
LET ALL WITH ONE ACCORD “The Republic of Kenya represents a coming together of our family and should mean an end of the dissensions which have weakened us in the past. It is good to be together; but to be together with a purpose is even better.” ~ Mzee Jomo Kenyatta ~
I however dont understand how former Kenyan first Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta is ranked as one of the richest women in Africa South of the sahara and north of the river limpopo!! On the contrally Mama Miria Obote of Uganda and Mama Maria Nyerere of Tanzania are not rich. Again the former first son and current President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta is considered to be among the first fifty richest men in Africa where as the children of Ugandas and Tanzanias Founding Fathers are like their Mothers not rich!! If i may ask did Mzee Jomo Kenyatta have a personal gold mine or was he at the same time doubling being Head of State and being a businessman? Where did Uhuru and Mama Ngina get all those billions?
CODED 254. Kenya Kenya Kenya. One of the most respected countries in the world and that's the reality that is running in each and everyone's mind. The world's third eye is shinning on us and that is something not to joke at. When a problem erupts in Kenya the whole world is shaken because Kenya itself is the Heart of the world not forgetting it being the Mega-brain of Africa. Kenyans should embrace this gift from the Creator and work for the betterment of our country. and we should hold that within deep inside our hearts. We are indeed Coded, 254. Remember the Kenyans for Kenyans initiative that saw us feed thousands of our own, that’s not something to say and just leave it to be blown by the day-wind. We should embrace it and look for better ways to doing the same. We, yes, have different cultural context but that does not mean that we are different, we are unbounded in the same boundary of our country Kenya and that’s all. We share many things in common such that if we let our community backgrounds ...
So what next for big bro Uhuru? I wish that he humbly accepts the situation around him and stay on course with the Hague process. He is wasting lots of time listening to pretenders and hypocrites of law and politics. One thing i know and i will always stick on it. Uhuru's career was set up by MOI and Kibaki, and he is on cursed fields. The road has been dangerous and a bumpy one! I highly doubt that mzee jomo would have been pleased with this road being taken so far. Check this out! 1. None of the Mzee jomo's prison mates have their children in trouble as Uhuru, 2. None of Moi's children are in the same predicaments, 3 None of Kibaki's children is in this problem. My heart will never forgive the Judiciary which lead the son of such a honorable Pan African leader! yes he had weaknesses but was much better than Savimbi , Mugabe, Samuel Dore, Mobutu Seseseko, Idi Amin etc. coz the nation was equally successful as some west and asian countries at his time. Uhuru Kenyatta’s assumption of the presidency has injected fresh energy into his family’s commercial empire, putting a number of its units on an expansion mode that is expected to consolidate its position as one of the largest business dynasties in Kenya. The business empire that is associated with Kenya’s founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta has in recent months made fresh bets in the hospitality, dairy, media and banking sectors – and in foreign markets where it is seeking to buy existing players or launch green-field operations. The investments come at a time when the second generation of the Kenyattas has taken full charge of the family business and the country’s politics, attracting attention with every single move. Brookside Dairy, Heritage Hotels, Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA) and Mediamax Group top the list of Kenyatta business units on the charge – having either recently acquired rival firms, announced plans to expand or opened subsidiaries across the border. It's quite interesting to realize that am not the only man alive who hates soccer with passion!..there's another man, who we shared the same high school (though decades apart), our nation's founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. WITH THIS PARLIAMENT IS THE PRESIDENT SAFE Even when majority Parliamentarians belong to the Party of the President and yet when they pass motions that negate the good relationship of the President and the Citizens or sections of the citizens and/or the global people, how can a majority Parliament such as this be good, be safe and be secure for the Presidency? I doubt because I saw the Parliament that Mzee Jomo Kenyatta used. It consisted of the individuals like the firebrands late Thomas Joseph Mboya, the former Vice-President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the late Joseph Martin Shikuku, tough talking Ronald Ngala, Paul Joseph Ngei, Masinde Muliro, the tough introverts like Dr. Njoroge Mungai and Joseph Mbiu Koinange et cetera. People who hailed from different ideological stratifications. They never were of like mind but they ever passed Parliamentary resolutions not as sycophants. I saw the Moi regime with tough Parliamentarians who included the very late Chelagat Mutai, James Orengo, the late Joseph Martin . ...

UNREWARDED LOYALTY: MAN APPEALS PARTY FOR SUPPORT By Billy Osano A 78-year–old man’s passion and love for former PM Raila Odinga`s political journey has won him both friends and foes in Homa bay town and its environs. Mzee Daniel Ojijo Oluoch is in no one’s payroll but operates an office daily to serve the public at the lakeside town of Homa Bay in Homa Bay County. His small office (both roof and walls made of iron sheets) strikes one as an exemplification of an archive as posters and calendars depicting political expedition of the former PM covers every space available on his office wall. Wooden benches donated to the office by various politicians from the region take positions in the tiny office that is in dire need of repair. To show solidarity with Raila hopping from one political party to the other over the years, Oluoch has adorned his coat with badges of FORD, NDP, LDP and ODM (Forum for Restoration of Democracy, National Development Party, and Orange Democratic Movement). CORD and ODM in particular claims to stand for Reforms and Democracy but the manner in which the party handled the 'nomination' of its candidate in the Siaya Gubernatorial race leaves right thinking people of Siaya with only one option-vote for Oduol. Time has come for Siaya to reclaim its lost glory.Since pre-independence,Siaya county has been known for its spirit of resistance to dictatorship(a feat that has earned Siaya County plaudits from all corners of the world). What hurts me is seeing young learned Josiaya pledge loyalty to a near 70 year old man.Raila is a symbol of unity and should therefore remain so.We are alive to the fact that Siaya is his home county. If he has 'good intentions' for the people of Siaya as he claims,he should let the people elect their Governor in a democratic process. We all know that he has such an enormous influence on the voting patterns in Siaya county and should therefore stay away from Siaya politics. I'll vote Oduol because I see this as a golden opportunity to remove ...

The Burden of Being a Luo in Kenya Being a member of any ethnic group in Kenya carries with it a burden. Whether you are a Luo, a Kikuyu, a Luhya, a Kalenjin, a Kamba, a Mjikenda or a member of any of the forty two ethinc groups that form the Kenyan nation, there is usually a distinct stereotyping of any of the ethnic groups, a situation that can create what I call “a burden”. It is a burden because the stereotyping may not apply for many Kenyans although, in many cases, the victims have to live with them. Under this circumstance, what is the burden of being a Luo? The following points could be true or false depending on how you look at them. This is not a blue- print but a rough guide of what it takes to be a Luo in Kenya. In politics, you are always accused of supporting or being loyal to the political family of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga whose son, Raila Odinga, is currently the centre of gravity in Kenyan politics. In football, you are likely to be accused of supporting Gor Mahia Football Clu ...
