Week of Feb 23-March 1 How honored we were to have these members of COTBE (Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelist attend our services last Sunday. Saturday night we were invited to attend the Annual Retreat held at Danbury this year. We were so glad to see our friends again and we invited them all to our church. We were so surprised when they all arrived at Skyview Baptist Church on Sunday morning! Most of these folks have served as Officers with COTBE (either President, Vice President, Secretary or Music Director). Those attending were Betty & Rick Ingle, Betty & Don Moni, Herman & Judell Cramer, Christy & Paul Newberry and Gwen & Ernie Overstreet. It’s very rarely that they are pictured all together since all of them are FULL-TIME Evangelists, preaching in a different church every week. Mike & Karen Anderson presented the gospel in music on Sunday morning and we were blessed by music of Betty Moni and Ernie Overstreet on Sunday night! Ben also shared singing a song with Rebecca and one by himse ...

I'm going to share something painfully personal with you folks this afternoon. I'm sharing this so that you can see the ripple effects that lack of funding for Public Radio can have. I've been able to offset the costs of acting as a volunteer Music Director for the Washington Blues Society due to a small stipend that I received for doing some production work at the radio station. Those costs included entry to shows, gas money to attend meetings, Blues Bashes, and all other events supporting our local music industry. I learned today from Rip Robbins, our General Manager at KSVR / KSVU / KSJU, that funding for the radio station has reached its limit and I'm no longer able to count on that small stipend...which means I can no longer fulfill obligations in the position as a Music Director and I have turned in my resignation to the Board of the Washington Blues Society. My greatest source of joy comes from representing and sharing the music of our incredible local talent. I'll still be doing that on my weekly ...

By Peter Wynne If you feel an irresistible urge to tap your foot tonight, don’t be surprised. Three of the four works maestro Lawrence Loh has chosen to perform with the Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic have unquestionable links to dance, and the fourth may have something of a dance connection as well. We open our program with Bach’s Suite No. 3 in D, the German master’s take on the French dance suite, which was a dance-tune collection devised in the mid 1600s by ballet and opera composer Jean-Baptiste Lully. We close each half of our bill with actual ballet music: Milhaud’s The Creation of the World and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. And our fourth work tonight, Debussy’s Prelude to An Afternoon of the Faun, evidently was first conceived as the overture to a stage work that would include music, narration and mime, the last doubtlessly choreographed to some degree. J.S. Bach: Suite No. 3 in D Major, BWV 1068 Sebastian Bach (as he was known to his contemporaries) spent most of his profession ...

“1983” – Movie Review The movie is just about OK, is very slow moving and has an abrupt end. “1983” is a Malayalam movie, released on January 31, 2014, directed by fashion photographer Abrid Shine, who has written the story and co-written the script with Bipin Chandran and produced by Shamsudeen. A family drama that revolves around cricket, it centres on the character Rameshan played by Nivin Pauly and his memories from 1983 when India won its first World Cup under Kapil Dev to 2013. Anoop Menon plays Vijay Menon, who was once a noted Ranji Trophy player and is now a brilliant coach. Joy Mathew, Rajeev Pillai, Jacob Gregory, Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese, Shine Tom Chacko, Srinda Ashab, Dinesh and Sanju, make up the rest of 1983’s team. Nikki Galrani is the heroine. 1983 was produced under the banner of Shams Films. Pradeesh Varma cranked the camera and music director was Gopi Sunder. The ATOS Trio performed beautifully at yesterday's concert. They seemed very excited to be back in Louisville, and Thomas even got a special visit from his piano teacher Lee Luvisi at intermission. Annette's two children, aged 4 months and 2 1/2, were little angels backstage. They are all flying back to Berlin today, having concluded their US tour. Hopefully, we'll see them again soon! Teddy Abrams, new LO music director, was also there to check out the whole CMS/Comstock Hall scene (and possibly to get some ideas for interpreting Shostokovich). Our next concert is on Sunday, March 16 with the Elias String Quartet. See you there!

Well I just read the Newspaper and it looks like BDoe Klbj got a very nice promotion. And he got a lesson in UT - Kansas history as well lol. Congrats bdoe, well deserved, also did not know to were music director. That's awesome. On another note, and speaking of reading the paper, Cedric Golden just keeps kicking *** with his positive and inspiring writing of sports as in the article about our beloved UT baseball team, while Kirk Bohls still keeps writing the same ol negative cynical stuff. I know what he will say. "I just write em as see um"! I admire his longevity, but we are still waiting for a nice positive story without controversy to come out. Peace, Paul
The symphony’s new music director is Tito Muñoz, a native New Yorker has led French orchestras in Lorraine and Nancy.
FROM THE NY TIMES REVIEW OF THE PROGRAM I HEARD YESTERDAY: "And Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the orchestra’s diminutive but charismatic music director (nicknamed Mighty Mouse for his iron-pumped upper body, which his jacket could barely contain), began his evening-long podium dance. Then there were the bravura flourishes of the strapping and exuberant German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser, as tall as Mr. Nézet-Séguin is short, who threw himself bodily into a performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1. In addition to the sheer physical dexterity needed to get around the notes in a work written for the hulking and commanding Mstislav Rostropovich, Mr. Moser punctuated decisive phrase endings with thrusts of his bow, stretched one long leg down from his platform to join the first violinists up close and personal in an animated passage, and leapt to his feet on his final note. And the evening ended with an all-out, full-orchestra romp through Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony that somehow seemed . ...

A big shout-out to the Sudbury Savoyards for their terrific production of the Pirates of Penzance. It was easily the best show I've seen at Sudbury. Dennis O'Brien's stage direction was great, and Kathryn Troup Denney was a clear and excellent music director. I couldn't get enough of the choreography by Tony Parkes, and I loved the fresh, authentic acting and line delivery from Kimberly Moller, Tom Frates, Brad Amidon, Katherine Engel Meifert, Graham Daley, and Ben Morse. And Mike Lague's Scottish accent was a blast! There are so many things large and small I could speak to if I were writing an actual review, with only the smallest of criticisms; but I want to say that this production boasted unusually strong production values. I think the steampunk theme brought out the best in Sudbury's creative team. With the stunning second act set, *all* the elements of the production came together remarkably well in Act Two--casting, direction, choreography, music direction, costumes, set--with the show really hitt ...

From its humble beginnings in Perth in 2011, this year’s Natural is predicted to be off the hook, with the announcement of the festival’s first-ever appearance in Brisbane and eight-strong all Kiwi line-up to be announced later in the year. NZA Music Director, Brian Terry, says it was a ‘natural’ (mind the pun!) decision to bring the festival to Queensland, with the majority of New Zealanders in Australia either calling the Gold Coast or Brisbane their “home away from home”. “Kiwis have been doing really well over in Perth with the mining boom, so I took a punt by starting the festival over there and it worked,” says Brian. “It had always been my vision to bring the festival to Queensland as I knew the demand would be there ...

With all the nasty weather sweeping the nation this week, I thought I would revisit a post from six years ago... Wondering blindly How can they find me Maybe they don't even know My body is shaking Anticipating The call of the black footed crow (“Pictures of Home” by Deep Purple, from Machine Head, 1971) Flying over the white patchwork farmlands of the Great Lakes states recently, I recalled my Midwestern roots, and my pride in that. I spent nineteen years of my life growing up in Ohio, Illinois, and Wisconsin. There’s lots to like: four full seasons, rich earth, good-hearted people with the best work ethic in our nation, and that primary accent--or lack of a discernable one--that is the model for all broadcasters. But I reached a stage in the late 70s/early 80s where I’d finally had enough of the intense winters. The Great Blizzard of ’78 was the initial reason. It was early February, and a fairly mild one at that. I was Program Director/Music Director at rock station in Lake Geneva, W ...
A note from Msgr. Tom: ORGAN MEMORIAL FUND: Some months ago we started a special fund to replace our parish organ. Because of its age, the replacement parts are not available to repair it adequately--we are still accepting donations and gifts for this need, and every gift will help. SANTARELLI MEMORIAL: Pete Santarelli's wife, Kate, asked that parishioners wishing to memorialize his presence in our faith community could make a donation to our parish organ fund. She wished to convey this earlier, but with funeral plans didn’t contact us then. Pete was known for his lifelong gift of music in the community. Please contact Msgr. Friends, a few days ago, the young film maker Srijit Mukherjee and I took part in a "chat show" at ABP Ananda. We were there to talk about Srijit's new movie "Jatishshor." In course of the discussion Srijit openly said that he faced resistance everywhere with regard to his desire to hire me as the Music Director. I have always known that the institutions of this state and may be of the entire country are against me. They dislike me and they try to oppose me wherever they can. It's not that Srijit's open statement took me totally aback or shook me out of my wits. But I must admit that it made me ponder on a few things including my life at this juncture. I must say that I found it admirable on Srijit's part to make that fact public in no equivocal terms. By stating before a TV camera that he had come across resistance everywhere on the point of hiring Kabir Suman as his Music Director he threw a challenge to the face of the institutions, the elites and the power brokers in the industry. I did not know that ...
"After God Almighty and our parents, it is Salman Khan Bhai for us and we have learnt a lot from him." - Sajid, (Music Director)"
For my many friends and family who may think that I've disappeared, I wish to assure you that Kathy and I have only become "temporarily invisible"! We are in the process of moving from the house where we've lived for a long time, and are moving into a house in Lithopolis (picture a lot of stuff in many boxes). Youngest daughter, Laura, and her husband Lance, and their two adorable children have moved into our old house. As Lance put it we're camping out. Once Kathy and I get moved (this coming weekend) I suspect that we'll all get into a less camp-out frame of mind. Meanwhile I am playing Roosevelt in the Musical Annie along with daughter Erika Jackson (Miss Hannigan) and her daughters Lo (rising star) and Wren (orphan) for three performances (Friday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons) each weekend for three consecutive weekends starting last Friday. Erika is also the show's producer and her husband, Theo, is Music Director. No wonder Kathy is frustrated! But surely our normally calm and ser ...
Violinist.com Interview with LA Phil CEO Deborah Borda: Building a Great Orchestra by Laurie Niles When Deborah Borda took her job as Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Philharmonic back in January 2000, she found near-empty halls at concerts; an unhappy board; financial problems aplenty, and a still-unbuilt Disney Hall. What kind of magic happened, between then and now, that transformed the Los Angeles Philharmonic into the success it is, just 13 years later? Because it's certainly a success: a leader in the industry, both artistically and business-wise. Gustavo Dudamel, who replaced Esa-Pekka Salonen as Music Director five years ago, routinely garners high praise from musicians and critics the world over. Walt Disney Concert Hall, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary, has been a triumph of acoustics, architecture and organization-building. The LA Phil appears to be on solid financial footing, and everyone just got a big raise in September. The organization has become a home for experimenta ...

So apparently I won Music Director of the Year again last night at the HMA's. CFMU (+ staff) also won Radio Station of the Year, Radio Show of the Year, and Media Person of the Year. I was of course absent writing papers so I didn't have to ramble on in some impromptu speech again, but just imagine me mumbling inconsequential things in a grateful tone while holding a piece of granite and you get an idea. Merci à tous!

SLAVA! (1977) Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) Leonard Bernstein wrote SLAVA! at the request of Russian cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich for the latter’s first season as Music Director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. The word “Slava” is, first of all, an affectionate reference to Rostropovich himself, since it was his nickname. “Slava” is also the Russian word for “glory,” a word famously set to a traditional Russian tune in Mussorgsky’s opera BORIS GODUNOV: you will hear a brief quotation of that tune here as well. But what is political about this overture? First, the two main themes come from Bernstein’s “political musical” 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE, written to celebrate the United States’ Bicentennial in 1976. The musical, which focused on telling the story of the White House and those who lived there from 1800 to 1900, was a crashing failure at the tim ...

Tonight's MSO Opening Night Concert: The MSO presented a phenominal concert of Musica Celestis for String Orchestra - Aaron Kernis, Liszt's Piano Concerto No.1 in E-Flat Major, and Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony under the direction of former Music Director, Andreas Delfs. I really enjoyed the Kernis work which has some nice solos for the Principal string players. All of them did a wonderful job of phrasing and dynamics. Jeremy Denk, the piano soloist on the Liszt, did a fantastic job of performing the work. Nice dynamic contrasts with a great ending to the work. I love Romantic Period piano concertos, and the Liszt happens to be one of my favorites along with Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schumann to name a few. Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony: Wonderful strong opening with the horns. Very fine work. Excellent duet work by Matt Annin and Dietrich Hemann in the first movement. Loved the solo stuff in woodwinds and very fine brass work with everyone else. The 2nd movement: Loved the solo bassoon playing by Ted Soluri as wel ...

I put up a post today that I wanted to explain a little further. Everyone is getting upset because of Zac Brown making some comments about Luke Bryan's current single. It was an opinion stated, that's all. We all have them. I didn't mean to set off a firestorm in any way. As someone who spent 14 years of my career as a Music Director, nobody respects the job you guys do more than me. In 1992, Travis Tritt said he didn't like "Achy Breaky Heart." The world survived...and so did Billy Ray. Radio has always been the gatekeepeer, and that's the way it should be. But, it's all an opinion - Zac's opinion. Trust me when I say that I respect both him and Jason Aldean as artists, I don't think about their opinion determines whether I like a song or not. And, going further...if I was the only one deciding what got played, you would hear only Kenny Rogers, Buck Owens, and Lee Ann Womack.Just sayin! It's all opinions, and they are like...well, you know!

Saturday night I went to a fantastic Chicago Sinfonietta performance at Orchestra Hall (Symphony Center) on Michigan Ave. The performance was called "eMOTION" and it was the orchestra backing 2 hip-hop dance crews. What I enjoyed most was that the conductor was female. Mei-Ann Chen, Music Director and Condeuctor. It was the first time I have ever seen a lady conduct an orchestra on stage. So, you know I need to get with the new millenium LOL :) This is a very diverse orchestra founded by a black man. I counted at least 8 African American musicians. I'm gald students can buy discounted tickets. Can't wait 'til their MLK concert in January.

The kids and I surprised Randy Elliot at Blossom with a cake and dinner! He had no idea we were coming. Some of his co-workers helped us surprise him. I think he had a good birthday. Also, my kids met pianist, Jean Yves Thibaudet and Music Director, Franz Welser-Most. The kids have met so many amazing musicians and grown up with the Cleveland Orchestra. It is so incredible to me.

Nathan's last ballgame last night. We lost to Garrison but since that's my hometown it's OK. One of our players moms had a seizure at the game and Garrison EMT's should be commended. The ump left the game to help her and road in the ambulance to the hospital. They stopped the game and pulled Jason Smith, Music Director from FBC Garrison, out to finish umping the game. They didn't start the game back up until we were sure she was OK. Way to go Big G.

Garyand Linda Chilen Arms, this made me think of a song, I think we did when you were Music Director at North Salem. I think this was one verse. Jesus walked this lonesome valley. He had to walk it by Himself. Oh, Nobody else could walk it for Him. He had to walk it by Himself. Great memories. I have to thank you, from the bottom of my heart. You were truly one, of the few, that I really looked up to. Still after all there years I can honestly look back and say you were there for the youth and didn't pass judgement on any of us. Again, my thanks. There should be more men out there like you for the youth of today!
Salford Choral Society Brahms' Requiem, Saturday 13 July 2013, 7.30pm, Peel Hall, Salford University For the last concert in their current season, Salford Choral Society performs Brahms much-loved German Requiem. Deeply moving, profound, and powerful, the Requiem uses bible texts selected by Brahms himself from the Lutheran Bible. It is a Requiem to console the living, and the message of hope recurs throughout this great choral masterwork. This concert will feature the more rarely-performed setting for two pianos, arranged by Brahms himself and played by Roderick Barrand and Pete Durrant. Soloists Gwendolen Martin and Robert O'Connell complete the line-up for a fantastic concert, which will be conducted by the Society's Music Director, Matthew Hamilton. The Society is one of the leading choirs in the North West, with a membership of 130. Accompanied by top class orchestras the choir works to a professional standard and new members with enthusiasm and commitment are always welcome. The ability to read musi ...

TRUE CONFESSIONS: 3 things Ive been wrong about in life: 1) Raised with "Blue Laws" in my youth, when I saw my first 7-11. @ 1970 AD. my buds and I laffed - who's gonna buy something 10PM? Who's gonna work there at that hour? 2) First bottled water- around same time ... Perrier Bottled Water? Who's gonna pay a dollar for a bottle of water? 3) 1973 or so a College radio DJ and Music Director of WTSR-FM ... I panned or passed on first Eagle's album and song "Take It Easy" . I knew of their affiliation with Jackson Browne and was a fan of his music ... BUT ... I came around and saw the light ... convenience stores, ZephyrHills bottled water... I saw the Eagles in Germany 1977 Hotel California tour and Don Henley 4 times in the 90's and met him at book signing for like 17 seconds Hey! live and learn or crash and burn .
THURSDAY NIGHT was great! Wooster hosted the SJBA (San Jacinto Baptist Association) "55-Plus Summer Smash - Luau". The Fellowship Hall was packed with sweet folks enjoying food & fellowship, finding friends from long ago, and making new friends. The newest member-church from Pasadena was present, with their interim Music Director (Bill Ingram) leading some hymn-singing. The hula was narrated by Mary Helen Shelton; Willie Rosales rocked the house with his solo singing. Many thanks to all of our folks who helped with the event, and we thank God for the fellowship of His love in other Christians!
Back from my final National Symphony concerts in 2012-13 season. Conducted by Krzysztof Urbanski (born 1982 and already Music Director for Indianapolis Symphony), played Grieg's Peer Gynt, Macmillan's Piano Concerto No.3 featuring Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano, and Lutoslawski's Concert for Orchestra. Urbanski was quietly and calmly guiding the orchestra - very simple matter but stable. I addended 12 NSO concerts during this season. Difficult to pick the best concert, but the memorable ones are 1) Morzart's Requiem in March, 2) Chopin Piano Concerto No.2 and Dvorak Symphony No.5 in April, 3) Bartok Piano Concerto No.2 in January. John Adams' concert was also impressive, and tonight's performance was actually very interesting one. Looking forward to the next season!
Music has always been an important part of the club. For example, at times it has had an orchestra or band over the years with the first in 1920. In addition the John Phillip Sousa National Band award was first sponsored in 1961 by the Metropoitan Kiwanis Club of Lima and was assumed by the Kiwanis Club of Lima, Ohio in 1980 after the Metropolitan club disbanded. This award is granted to the senior deemed most worthy by a vote of his/her peers. Finally, in 1987 the Kiwanis Club of Lima, Ohio, established the Ronald W. Richards Young Musicians Scholarship Fund in the memory of Mr. Richards after he passed away in 1986. He was the Music Director at Lima Senior High School for 25 years. In addition, the was the choral director at Trinity United Methodist Church for 30 years. The church holds several concerts a year and donates the proceeds to the fund. The club grants at least one scholarship annually. Any senior in the County is eligible to apply.

I was reading reviews on "Khiladi 786" and came to know how many unsuccessful people simply ignores the hard work and success of Successful people.Yeah I would agree that this film has some stupidity and flaws but the music and film is blockbuster.Whoever says that Himesh Reshammiya don't know music or singing or acting should wash their faces because for Music he is still the best after A R Rehman sahab and his music is evergreen in all occasions and seasons a.He can make you groove with his music and also he is now a proven actor as he won Dada Sahab Phalke Award. He has earned numerous awrds. He has done all the things successfully that a music director cannot think of. Writing and producing Serials (Andaz, Ansh(X-zone) and many more) , Direction, Production, Lyrics( Hookah Bar) ,Music Direction and composing(100+ films), Acting( 6 films, Music Videos) ,Singing( Music Albums, Playback), Music Publishing(HR Musik Ltd).He is the only Music Director who is bringing and giving work to most of the newcomer . ...
