I just got back yesterday evening after spending 10 days with my oldest son Eric, my daughter-in-law Hope, and my grandson Drew, in CA. I miss them already! I had such a good time with them! I didn't post anything about going or being there because I don't like for people to know when I'm away from home! I tried to keep up on fb, but missed some days, and if I missed anyone's birthday I'm sorry! My son lives on Travis Air Force Base! I kept my grandson for a few days while Eric and Hope went to AL for an emergency in her family. I took Drew to the Youth Center in the mornings and they take him to school, and then I would pick him back up from there! I got lost a few times on base! We had a lot of fun! My flight left at 7AM yesterday morning, which meant I had to get up at 4AM. We went to Muir Wood Forest, which is like the Redwood Forest! It was very interesting! Update from Peter Wood on the Muir U16s. BRFC U16 Game Result! The U16 team went to windy but dry Netherdale today to play Gala who are in the National Cup. It was full squad our for Muir - all desperate to play. Gala had the early ball and field position - however as they did all afternoon the Muir forwards worked hard to win the ball. Once the ball was won the Muir backs were devastating with ball in hand. This was a mature performance of running and supporting rugby and took the national cup side apart. The highlight of the game was the cross field kick from 10 to Gully on the wing. A clean catch on the 10m line and a run in to score. It was a delight to watch the Muir handing - backs and forwards. There was support, strong direct running lines and great handling. All 23 players in the squad played to day and the encouraging part of the game was the shut out with a range of players. Muir were delighted - Gala were devastated. Well done final score 56 - 0 - leading scorer Sean Gilligan.

In SF - had dinner at Fisherman's Wharf last night - caught the trolley car down and back - staying at the Fairmont on Nob Hill - great hotel - so much history - photos of the April 18 1906 Earthquake with the Fairmont the only building standing in any direction - scary realism.Out on a site seeing trip and over to Sausalito today - going to visit the ancient Redwoods of Muir Wood and catch a ferry back to SF - will be crossing over the GH Bridge and then underneath - past Alcatraz (but not going in!!!)

A few days ago I was sitting on the edge of a very small creek. I was observing the sights and sounds around me. Have just spent half the day hiking around Muir Woods north of San Fransisco! These trees are just magnificent! Definitely something to put on your bucket list!! The tallest tree in the Muir Woods is 258 feet (79 m). The trees come from a seed no bigger than that of a tomato's.[8] The average age of the redwoods in the Monument are between 500 and 800 years old with the oldest being at least 1,200 years old.

It is just a super thick redwood forest with tons and tons of life. Most of it is hidden if your looking for animals but there is still a lot to see if you stay there for a couple days. Home sweet home!! Made it safe and sound. We had a wonderful 12 days of family time. We got to see family and friends, see gray whales and hundreds of sea otters off the beautiful Hwy 1 coastline, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, visit San Francisco and Muir Woods to see the redwoods. I think we filled our minutes with as much as we could. It has been great and we would do it again in a heart beat.

I spent midnight inside a redwood tree at Muir Woods, then went to a bonfire/ gong-ringing ceremony at Green Gulch Zen Center. How 'bout you? What did you do to ring in the New Year?

I have been to "the Rock" but Mom hasn't so it'll be a neat treat. The weather is being cooperative, finally. Deep into the depths of Muir it was cool and wet - but not raining outright. Coming back up it was nice 'n sunny. Today it's chilly but brilliantly sunny. Mom's quite the trooper and has been up for all of this. Yay Mom!

We are back from a glorious vacation in California!!! Matt, Gary, and I went out to Sac to see Mindy...SO MUCH FUN!...went to In & Out twice; shopping!; Old Spaghetti Factory for first night dinner in Sac; toured the capitol; walked Old Sac and riverfront; celebrated Emma (Mindy's roommate's) birthday at Bucca in Sac and played mini golf; Mindy drove us to San Francisco for a 3 day adventure---Toured Alcatraz; Gheradelli Square; excellent bus tour to all the San Fran cites; Mindy drove over the Golden Gate Bridge (as well as the bay bridge and gold bridge in Sac) and took us to Muir Woods; had a fabulous Seafood Thanksgiving lunch on the water in Salsalito and then back to Sac and Mimi's for our annual traditional Thanksgiving Dinner that evening; got to see Mindy's new house that she is in the process of buying (beautiful!)

Day 13. Stopped off at Pismo Beach, on our way to San Francisco. Very pretty beach. Got some cute pictures. After 5.5 hours of driving, she said that was far enough. So we are staying in San Jose, CA tonight...about 40 minutes from San Francisco. Tomorrow: site seeing, Golden Gate Bridge, and Muir Woods redwood trees!

Ok today is tour day. I'm doing the super combo: downtown San Francisco, Chinatown, fisherman's wharf, Golden Gate Bridge and park, North beach, presidio, etc then Marin County including Muir Woods and lastly Sausalito. Wine and Napa will have to be a vacation all its own sometime in the future!

Had a great day. Went to see the Redwoods at Muir Woods then Sausalito for lunch followed by a little retail therapy at Macy's and then finished our day with dinner at a stunning French restaurant just near our hotel.

Jay took me to San Francisco for our anniversary. We did it all. Wine country visiting four vineyards. Golden Gate Bridge from above and traveling over it. We could see the Bay Bridge from our hotel room. Ghiradelli Square. Fisherman's Wharf. Tour through the neighborhoods. Dinner in the Italian area at quaint restaurant. Ferry ride by Alcatraz and San Quentin. Hike thriough Muir Woods, last of giant redwood forest. Shopping in Union Square. Cable car ride. Dinner at two of best restaurants: House of Prime and The Slanted Door. Were able to see our Hawaiian friends, Malahini and Bones who introduced us to two local residents, Frank and Gina, and their son, Josh. It was perfect in every way. Thanks, honey!

The Muir woods north of San Francisco are absolutely amazing. Went off trail for a nice little 2.5 hour hike - had a blast getting lost.

Listened to poet Gary Snyder last night at the old Whiteside Theater and the joint was full! I met him once many years ago in Muir Woods when I was living in the Bay Area.

Day 1 was beautiful! Muir Woods, Mt. Tam, Stinson Beach and Point Reyes all in a day! The cows are mooing here in Point Reyes, and we are ready for Day 2 in Sonoma. It's another beautiful California day!

First 24 hrs of being Mrs. Stroble.. We had a beautiful time in Muir Woods, safely made it to San Francisco and saw 2 car accidents coming in.. One a finder binder and the other someone hit a pedestrian that was laying in the middle of the road not moving and Brian said he looks dead... What is wrong with these people?! Tonight Brian has to get "the walking dead" new episode in, then going to the Cheesecake Factory. Brian paid for or room on Hotwire and ended up with 2 double beds so much for honeymoon... Lol. Great lunch and dinner with "new" friends in SF yesterday. This weekend=last two days here (for awhile). Striving for a long bike ride today: Teluride and Muir Woods are about equal distance (23 miles; one way) from rental place; not yet sure in which direction I'll go. Gotta stay fit so I can keep up with my bicycle buddy, Mary, who rides hard & fast (and is doing so in NC). Heavy fog now; hope it clears soon.

Got back from a trip to California last Friday, walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, stood on the San Andreas fault , hiked several places including Point Reyes, Angel Island, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Marin Headlands and Muir Woods, got to see where Nathan works both at the Burning Man offices and at his job at Gasser Photography. Got to know his girlfriend, Stella a bit better while staying with them a couple of nights. On the way back, enjoyed some time at Lake Tahoe and hiking near Seeley Lake in Montana to see some huge alpine larch trees.

We're back home in Michigan following a wonderful nine days in California, spent in the Bay Area and Napa Valley. Sorry to leave, but it's always good to get home, even to rainy weather. The cats were certainly glad to see us. Many thanks to John Partridge for putting on the Napa Valley Ragtime Festival, and thanks also to Marty Eggers, Larisa Migachyov, and Craig Ventresco for inviting me to perform in their venues. Between gigs we explored San Francisco, visited Muir Woods, toured Napa Valley by train, and spent time with our son in Mountain View. Had a lovely time. To paraphrase the ex-governor: We'll be back.

Great day planned in California today. Heading out on an all day tour to see San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, up to Muir woods to see the giant redwoods then off to Sausolito. Beautiful weather out here. Tomorrow the dental convention starts.

Hello from RENO!! Stayed in Wendover last night--such a treat???!!! Traveling with Douglas. At Harrahs tonight. Traveling to SF in the morning for 4 nights. Will see Wanda Sikes, Muir Woods, the coast road from Muir Woods. The highlight will be participating at the "Strides for Life" on Sunday. I am surprising the founders Barb and Larry--that were very supportive when Jeff was in the final months of his path to the angels. Their awesome son, Dylan, died at 24 from colon cancer. Just left the beautiful Lodi area. On our way to check out Muir woods and downtown San Francisco. Two more days our children and the rest of our team will be joining us in Long beach.

Where Are we Now? Well, we have been busy with the family. Had a great day hopping on and off the open top bus touring San Francisco, great time at and on the Golden Gate Bridge viewing the yachts on the bay and Alcatraz, the Blue Angels flight display and stealth plane! Also saw the huge Redwoods at Muir Woods, drove Lombard St (crookedest St), cable car, up and down the streets of San Fran - fun time. Headed to Bass Lake and Yosemite. All drove around, saw the Sequoia trees and half moon at Glacier point - fabulous scenery. Next to Vegas. Handed over the Kia, wandered the outlet mall and enjoyed some shopping plus the wonderful company of Pat & Dennis (yep, we caught up again!), and Lily who was a hit with Maddi & Jaxson. On to the Grand Canyon, so vast and deep and big and wide and amazing! Hit the road again and are now in Santa Rosa, New Mexico awaiting a new tyre. Yep, blew a Tyre last night (after dark of course!), no help from the insurance company Progressive - recommend you never use Progressiv ...

Today was a beautiful sunny day. Went to Cliff House for lunch, magnificent view of the Pacific and watched dogs playing Frisbee and surfers. Then drove on Pacific Coast Highway to Muir Woods ( redwoods). Then Presidio area around Fort Baker to pier at north end of Golden Gate (more beautiful views of the bay) and then a drive thru Sausalito . Then our 1st In and Out burger.

We hiked though Muir Woods today. Just landed at the hotel in San Francisco. Awesome hike, quite, lots of bird activity and we had a lesson on trees from the Park Ranger. Beautiful day in SF, sunny high 80's . Rehydrating with water before we hit the streets of San Francisco! Leaving hotel at 4am in Tuesday morning for the airport and journey home. Had a great time at the Airforce base in Fairfield, CA with Adam Lozis. The man is doing well for himself since we last met with 2 years of experience under his belt working on electrical in the Airforce. Got to get a couple of quick glances at planes :) quite cool. Then we hiked the Muir woods and hung out at Stinson Beach. We kicked back and watched horror movies at his dorm, and felt very welcome to crash here a couple of nights. The tradition continues! After hiking around Muir Woods National Monument for a couple of hours, we had built-up quite an appetite, so we headed over to San Rafael, CA, to Sol Food! They had moved as well, but only a block away. I've never had Puerto Rican food before, but I will again! I had their Bistec Sandwich, and all I can say is "WOW"! Amazing place; just stay away from the salad dressing (inside joke).

Good morning! today is my youngest granddaughter's 10th birhday! Expecting a visit next week from my dear friend Hrefna from Iceland. It was another awesome day. We went to muir woods and saw the red woods went on a dinner cruise that was way over priced and I got to drive down Lombard Street after my husband did. It was an AWESOME day.

The Turners have moved on to Phoenix and we are still in SF. Yesterday we bought Bandit and Ralph SF t-shirts. They will look handsome. Spent the afternoon touring Muir Woods, a giant redwood forest -spectacular. Had a great guide who gave us some interesting info and tips. Saw Danielle Steele's pink house. On his advice had a fabulous dinner at a seafood restaurant overlooking the bay celebrating our wedding anniversary early. Had brilliant service and was brought out a dessert with candles to celebrate. Today was huge, spent walking the valley floor of Yosemite National Park. Though an overcast day it was spectacular and saw lots of wildlife. Now sitting by the fire having a drink with Mickey in our swish hotel. Off to Phoenix tomorrow. Have loved San Fran.

Watching the ballgame here in Pacific Grove, CA with Doli. We are having a great time and I have also become a member of the "Can't believe she's going to be 90" Club. It's been cable cars, Fisherman's Wharf, Muir Woods(my happy place), ferries, streetcars, Tour bus, Golden Gate, Dinner in Chinatown, Hwy 1 drive and, of course, shopping! And, it was amazing to spend it all with Cyndee! xoxo

Long walk to (but not over) the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday--8 miles. Over the bridge to Sausalito is the goal; first on foot then by bike. Beautiful Muir Woods and Tiburon for the weekend. Next week is wine country, including a cocktail reception with friends.
