Andy Murray revealed he is still battling with a shoulder injury after a day of mixed success in the Hopman Cup on Wednesday. The two-time grand-slam champion was troubled by pain in his left shoulder during his Mubadala World Tennis Championship semi-final victory over Rafael Nadal last week. That has not stopped Murray from competing in the Hopman Cup in Perth, where he beat France's Benoit Paire on Monday before combining with Heather Watson to get the better of Paire and Alize Cornet in the doubles. Murray saw off Jerzy Janowicz in his latest singles match on Wednesday, but was defeated by Poland duo Janowicz and Agnieszka Radwanska playing alongside Watson later in the day. The Scot is playing in Perth as part of his build-up to this month's Australian Open, which begins on January 19, but he said after Wednesday's action that he is still in some pain. "It's still a little bit sore. I woke up and it had moved up a little bit towards my neck, but this heat helps warm everything up and loosen everything ...

In the eyes and words of Rafael Nadal, tennis is a simple game. Perhaps the man he defeated yesterday to secure third place at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, would beg to differ. The Frenchman was firing monstrous serves – on a surface that has been unanimously dubbed by the players as the fastest they’ve played on this year – including 14 aces but still could not prevent a 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 defeat to Nadal. And while Nadal’s rivals like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have opted to bring in legends like Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker to reinforce their teams, Rafa is again keen to keep it simple and work with his tried and trusted team. Nadal, who has been coached by his uncle Toni all his life, says he doesn’t need a tennis legend to guide him on tour. “My feeling is that is depends on the player,” said Nadal. “I think coaching tennis is not a big deal. We are not doing something very very difficult – tennis is a simple game at the end of the day. “It’s m ...

He was due to return to action for the first time since this year’s Wimbledon Championship alongside defending Champion and world number one, Novak Djokovic, reigning US Open Champion and world number three Andy Murray, world number five David Ferrer, world number six Tomas Berdych and world number nine Janko Tipsarevic. Looking forward, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship team is excited to welcome the rest of our top 10 players to Abu Dhabi, and can confirm that Nadal will be replaced in the all-star line-up.
