The Iranian Revolution: events involving the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty under Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was supported by the US
Shi'ite cleric Ruhollah Khomeini—born this day in 1900, it is believed—led the 1979 revolution that overthrew Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
Women's rights[edit]Main article: White Revolution Under Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi's father, the government supported advancements by women against child marriage, polygamy, exclusion from public society, and education segregation. However, independent feminist political groups were shut down and forcibly integrated into one state-created institution, which maintained many paternalistic views. Despite substantial opposition from Shiite religious jurists, the Iranian feminist movement, led by activists such as Fatemah Sayyeh, achieved further advancement under Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. His regime's changes focused on the civil sphere, and private-oriented family law remained restrictive, although the 1967 and 1975 Family Protection Laws attempted to reform this trend.[86] Specifically, women gained the right to become ministers such as Farrokhroo Parsa and judges such as Shirin Ebadi, as well as any other profession regardless of their gender.

As a young cleric Hassan Rouhani started his political activities by following the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini during the beginning of the Iranian Islamist movement. In 1965, he began traveling throughout Iran making speeches against the government of the Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the Shah (king) of Iran. During those years he was arrested many times and was banned from delivering public speeches. In November 1977, during a public ceremony held at Tehran's Ark Mosque to commemorate the death of Mostafa Khomeini (the elder son of the Ayatollah Khomeini), Rouhani used the title "Imam" for the Ayatollah Khomeini, the then exiled leader of the Islamist movement, for the first time. It has been suggested that the title has been used for Khomeini by others before, including by the Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr, although Rouhani was influential in publicizing the title.
One Big Gasoline Bomb Excerpt from the book “The Oil Kings How the U.S. Iran, and Saudi Arabia Changed the Balance of Power in the Middle East by Andrew Scott Cooper Page 19 Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was a hard man to say no to in the spring of 1969. Everything had turned in his and Iran's favor in recent years. The United States was mired in a punishing land war in Vietnam, one that had bitterly divided the American Home front and exposed the perils of trying to enforce a Pax Americana on the unruly outer edges of empire. Nixon had promised to end the war and draw down the American presence in East Asia. The problem for Washington was that Great Britain had made a similar pledge to pull out of the Persian Gulf by the end of 1971, leaving the Asian continent’s western flank vulnerable to seizure or subversion from radicals and mischief makers aligned with the Soviet Union. The cash strapped British were ending more than a century of gunboat diplomacy in an area that held two thirds of the world’s . ...
Political control, totalitarian power: the rule of the Shi'ite clergy in Iran Posted by ACN News on 25/6/2013, By Reinhard Backes Persia is seen as one of the world's early high cultures. Since the 6th century various dynasties have ruled the region between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. Under Reza Shah Pahlavi Persia was renamed Iran in 1935. With the fall of his son, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, in 1979 the monarchy came to an end. Iran, whose national territory covers 1.6 million square kilometres, became an Islamic Republic with a presidential system. Ruthlessly Ayatollah Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini imposed the rule of the clergy on his return from exile in France. The constitution of 1979, which he determined to a major extent, has guaranteed to the present day the power of the Supreme Legal Scholar, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, who is appointed for life. Since the death of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1989, Ali Khamenei has occupied the highest office of state. According to the constitution the ...
Ebrahim Mirzaii’s biography The Grand Master Ebrahim Mirzaii was born in Iran on 7 / 11/ 1318 according to the Persian calendar, which for us means approximately 65 years ago. Since he was a boy, he studied different Martial Arts and became an expert in various disciplines when he was still quite young. His immense passion for Martial Art came to be known by the Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi who compensated him by financing a trip to the Far East to study Martial Arts and Oriental Philosophy more deeply with the aim of creating a new martial art from his experience, one that integreted the Persian culture on physical form. Therefore, he founded “Kung Fu Toa” in the 1960’s. In Persia, now Iran, they have always given great importance to physical form, which today is studied and experimented with, on a scientific level and in the past as something fundamental for the training of young warriors. The “Zour Khane” still exist today, gymnasiums fitted with a circular arena where, in a masculine atmosph ...
Faced with an army mutiny and violent demonstrations against his rule, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the leader of Iran since 1941, is forced to flee the country.
