Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded on this date in 1777 AD, it wud later become the city of Santa Clara, center of Silicon Valley.
The Battle of Santa Clara (1847). There used to be a plaque commemorating this battle (more of a skirmish) on the median of El Camino Real at Lawrence Expressway. Apparently the plaque was relocated, but to where I don't know. The battle was fought between US Marines and Mexican militia (California was part of Mexico at the time). After a few days an armistice was signed at an old oak tree (at the future site of the intersection of ECR and Lawrence). That's probably where the Oak Chalet, a restaurant located at that intersection, got its name. The battle itself, denoted as occurring 2 1/2 miles west of Mission Santa Clara, looks to have started probably in Saratoga Creek. From Wiki:

Your elementary school field trips included the Children's Discovery Museum, Mission Santa Clara, and Happy Hollow. 6. You didn't realize that San Jose` had an accent mark until the "San Jose` - the Capital of Silicon Valley" signs went up everywhere. 7. You don't understand how you could have functioned before hway 85. 8. Nickel City = Awesome. 9. You had your hair done at Special FX for prom. 10. You or a family member has made a donation to KQED. 11. You know at least three jokes regarding the ambiguous sexual orientation of boys from Bellarmine. 12. You learned the concept of "Duck a ...
