Adrian Peterson avoids jail time in Child Abuse case -
Minnesota Vikings player Adrian Peterson has been all over the news after being charged with abusing his son by hitting him with a switch. Not surprising this medieval form of child control is still around. It was very common and accepted when I was kid. I don't recall my own parents doing this. They preferred a thick leather belt for my more extreme "bad behavior". But I remember many of my friends being switched. The tradition often involved parents sending the offending child out to cut his/her own switch with which to be hit. I also remember one of those Readers Digest reader anecdotes about this. A mother wrote about sending her 5 y/o daughter out to harvest a switch so her mom could hit her with it. The little girl came back crying, saying, "Mommy, I'm sorry. I couldn't find a switch. Here's a wock you can fro at me." Isn't that heartwarming?

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson’s indictment on Friday on a child-injury charge has raised questions about whether any form of spanking or corporeal punishment should be inflicted on children.
In our Sunday morning Coffee Talk tomorrow, we will focus on the first story about child discipline and Adrian Peterson. Adrian Peterson, a star player with the Minnesota Vikings, was charged recently with Child Abuse for physically disciplining his 4-year-old son to the point where a doctor, seeing the child later, reported the resulting injuries to authorities. This has brought into the spotlight the issue of how we discipline children -- and when discipline becomes abuse. Together In Christ, Pastor Doug Winner
Move to protect Adrian Peterson’s son Ann Heisenfelt/AP Adrian Peterson will be on the sidelines will remain on the sidelines for the forseeable future. CONROE, Texas – From midtown Manhattan to Texas to Minnesota, the reverberations from the Adrian Peterson Child Abuse indictment continue to be felt across the country. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell referred to the images of tailback Adrian Peterson’s 4-year-old son and the bruises Minnesota Vikings running back gave him after whipping the boy with a stick “tragic” and “hard to look at” Friday afternoon in midtown Manhattan. Meanwhile, in Minnesota, Hennepin County filed a court petition seeking protection for the unnamed boy after his alleged abuse. The petition requested that a judge approve a safety plan for the child, including that Peterson not have any unsupervised or unauthorized contact with the child, and that he cannot use any “corporal punishment and/or physical discipline.” “State law requires us to file an action in child ...

That's how Detroit Free Press writer Mitch Albom opens his most recent column, this one concerning Minnesota Vikings star runner Adrian Peterson.
I think it is pathetic that a parent such as Adrian Peterson (running back for Minnesota Vikings) can't discipline their own child without the risk of publicity and possibly having to be suspended from their own job. It's nobody's business but theirs. And as far as him spanking his child being considered as Child Abuse makes me sick. What kind of message do you think we are sending this generation of children. It simply shows them that they can do whatever they want without necessary disciplinary acts and it also shows that the law enforcements are on their side hence letting them believe they can do what they want with merely a smack on the wrist, and people wonder why the generations of youth are getting worse. Open your eyes. You are pretty much showing them that they can do what they want and get away with it. Their is a difference between Child Abuse and discipline.

Maybe I have thought of a great solution for the Jameis Winston issue at FSU that will benefit everyone: The truth is the NFL has no rules and no morals because the Minnesota Vikings were only forced to get rid of Adrian Peterson when they were faced with being sanctioned by the NFL. I think we realized tonight that the Buccaneers are horrible so maybe just maybe FSU can send Jameis Winston to Tampa to be our new quarterback where his antics and moronic behaviors will be more accepted as a member of the NFL and Florida State can show that it has some class and cares more about morals than victories. who's with me on this one?
O.k. I do realize that everybody is supposedly innocent until proven guilty but I gotta say that after the ESPN day I've had today, I'm done! First Ray Rice! Now this morning I watched the Minnesota Vikings press conference announcing that they're not gonna allow Adrian Peterson to play Sunday and he's on some exempt list! Then a little while later I'm watching ESPN and I see that another player (Daryl Washington) is under investigation and yet another (Greg Hardy) had already been found guilty of domestic abuse earlier this summer! Then, a few minutes later it's announced that Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston with Florida State stood on a table in the middle of some union meeting and starts shouting sexual or sexist obscenities! Which may not sound like too big of a shocker for a 18-19 year old. Until they blew up on the screen a list of other crimes & university violations he has committed and been warned about, including assaulting a female! Wait, it gets worse! As I'm sitting down to eat dinner .. ...

to the management of the Minnesota Vikings: I have a solution to the adrian peterson situation that should satisfy all but the most extreme "he must go" critics. 1- keep his suspension in place for a period of however many weeks you think is appropriate. 2- divert his ENTIRE salary ($690,000 a week, I've been told) to a foundation which benefits adolescent victims of domestic violence. 3- require mr peterson to attend and complete a treatment program for domestic abusers, an assaultive behavior program (in iowa, these can last from between 24-36 weeks), as well as a parenting skills class. 4- require that mr peterson record a series of public service announcements (PSAs) on behalf of ALL of these treatment and education programs, focusing on the importance of learning non-violent parenting skills and discussing the issues of parent-on-child violence. 5- at the conclusion of some appropriate period of time, review the question of whether or not mr peterson should be allowed to return to the NFL. this shoul ...

" The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group's brands, which include Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson Red, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson & Country Inns & Suites By Carlson" Radisson Hotels have pulled their sponsorship of the Minnesota Vikings football team due to Adrian Peterson whipping his child with a switch. If you believe parents should have the right to discipline their children in the way they see fit without having to worry about being harassed by the police state, you should boycott these brands. I remember being whipped with a switch and it probably benefited me.

I have been watching the news media sharks feed on Adrian Peterson ( think Minnesota Vikings) over his alledged Child Abuse. First let me say that I am totally against abusing any child. But when news anchors call a very thin branch off a tree a pole, I have a problem with the credibility of the news anchor. When another called it a "wooden stick" it became very clear to me that these people were totally out of their tree and needed to climb back up and eat a few years of bananas before they decend to make a public statement again. Child Abuse is when you don't teach your children discipline and self control. Some children can be disciplined by the word no and that is all that is ever needed. Others may need "time out" it works great, try it! But on rare occasions if a parent does not take control of the situation you create a liberal. Enough said. Laugh, it should be funny except that it hurts to realize that it is sad. OK I'm off my stump. Pray that Adrian Peterson gets true justice not a liberal or con ...
I’m finally going to do it…I’m saying goodbye to the NFL. Full disclosure: I have never played football as part of a team at any level. However, I have enjoyed watching professional football for as long as I can remember. Several years ago, I became very troubled by how much the NFL had been covering up and misleading its own players about the dangers of concussions. Even in the recent preliminary settlement with many former NFL players addressing this same issue, the league admitted no fault and escaped without having to disclose what it knew and when it knew it. For these reasons and others, the settlement is being challenged in federal court by several retired players. Did I find this troubling? Yes, but I still continued to watch football. Now comes the year 2014. The issues this week surrounding the Minnesota Vikings and running back Adrian Peterson have been so very troubling. I had such high hopes after the team deactivated him for last Sunday’s game against New England. Sadly, money ...

Very disappointed that the Minnesota Vikings have reinstated Adrian Peterson, who was arrested on Saturday for Child Abuse (Child Endangerment) charges. This came after beating his son with a Switch (like a stick type thing) leaving injuries to his Legs, Buttocks and Genitalia. Pathetic move today in announcing he will play this Sunday. The NFL needs to step in and suspend him IMMEDIATELY and ban him from all NFL activities. What a nightmare for the NFL as this season starts. Results: Early Games: New England Patriots 30 Minnesota Vikings 6 Tom Brady 15/22, 149yds, TD Stevan Ridley 25 Rushes, 101yds, TD Julian Edelman 6 Rec, 81yds, TD The Patriots defence looked a lot better this week than last week, they blocked a field goal and returned it for a TD 58 yards, the loss of Adrian Peterson played a big role in the Vikings loss as they could not get anything going against the Patriots defence, Matt Cassel threw not one, not two, not three but four interceptions in the game including one to one of the best CBs in the game, Darelle Revis. The Patriots had a big day on the ground with their Running Backs combining for 150 yards and a TD. The Vikings leading receiver was Cordarrelle Patterson and he only had 56 yards on 4 catches which goes to show that they couldn't do much. Again the Patriots defence was key in this one and there really isn't much to say about the game because it was a blowout. Tom Brady was actually pretty conservative completing 15/22, 149 yards and a TD. Dallas ...

Random thoughts! Adrian Peterson (NFL football player Minnesota Vikings) was indicted for spanking his 4 year old child with a switch. But a police officer can shoot your child and it is okay. I struggle with this. I realize there is always three sides to every story. My mom use to make us go out and pick the switch she would spank us with. What's you comment?

It disappoints me that the NFL would deactivate a player for child discipline, as it should disappoint anyone with Adrian Peterson on your fantasy team. Know they no bounds? As for the Minnesota Vikings, they will have to discipline the Patriots on Sunday without All Day.

As the debate about whether the NCAA should pay college athletes continues, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson offered his strongest comments yet Wednesday in favor of players receiving compensation. Peterson, speaking on a conference call Wednesday to promote a recovery icing device called Hyperice that he endorses, said players "are the ones making these universities money" and surmised that both he and Johnny Manziel brought in astronomical sums of revenue for their respective schools. "Johnny Manziel made Texas A&M so much money," he said. "When I was at Oklahoma, they made so much money." Peterson also spoke out against NBA commissioner Adam Silver's comments that basketball players should stay in school for two years. "They're trying to make basketball players go two years in college. Wow. I wonder why?" Peterson said. "Think about it -- just imagine if LeBron James had been in college for two years. How much money would that college have made off LeBron James? They would have made so mu ...

With Johnny Manziel entering the NFL Draft here are 5 potential teams who could use his services. 1. Minnesota Vikings (No. 8 overall pick) Minnesota is in the market for a new coach and likely a new QB. They have explosive pieces on offense outside of Adrian Peterson. Even if Manziel struggles early, the Vikings could lean on Peterson and a QB who can execute the zone-read to throw less and get the ball in Peterson's hands more. Wide receiver/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson has turned into one of the most explosive players in the NFL, and Manziel would flourish with defenses focused on AP and Patterson. Plus, as the Vikings move outdoors for two seasons while their new stadium gets built, why not go with a guy whom people have compared to Fran Tarkenton? 2. Cleveland Browns (No. 4 overall pick) The Browns need a QB and have two first-round picks (No. 26 from Indy). Josh Gordon is one of the best wideouts in the game, but Cleveland has problems protecting the passer. They need a QB who can create spac ...
Leslie Frazier was fired after going 20-32-1 as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Frazier was 5-10-1 in 2013 after riding running back Adrian Peterson to the playoffs in 2012, when Peterson topped 2,000 yards rushing.
Vikings edge Lions in Metrodome finale Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS -- As the Minnesota Vikings filed into their locker room at the Metrodome for the last time, Leslie Frazier was there to greet them with a handshake and a hug. The Vikings picked up one more victory at the soon-to-be-demolished stadium, perhaps a parting gift for the popular coach. Fittingly, the Detroit Lions left on the losing end. Cordarrelle Patterson scored two touchdowns, including the go-ahead catch in the end zone in the fourth quarter, and the Vikings beat the Lions 14-13 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Metrodome's 32 seasons. From Patterson to Adrian Peterson, player after player passionately voiced their support for Frazier, whose record over three-plus years is 21-33-1. Peterson promised to make his plea directly to the owners on Monday. Frazier urged the front office to bring him and his staff back. "I just have a lot of belief in my abilities as a coach and have a lot of belief in the guys on our team and a lot ...

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Philadelphia Eagles were soaring after a big win in the snow the week before. This game was inside. Adrian Peterson was missing. The stage was set for another step toward the playoffs. Well, Matt Cassel and the Minnesota Vikings just made the flight path a bit bumpier. Cassel passed for two touchdowns and 382 yards, the most by a Minnesota quarterback since Brett Favre was here, and ran for another score to lead the injury-depleted Vikings to a 48-30 victory that snapped a five-game winning streak by the Eagles. "I don't think you can ever count out our players. We've had some difficult moments this season, for sure, but I always believed," coach Leslie Frazier said. "Even early in the week I said, 'This game really doesn't have to be this close,' except for the fact that we were going with so many guys in backup roles." With Peterson and Toby Gerhart out, third-stringer Matt Asiata rushed for his first three career touchdowns. Greg Jennings caught a career-high 11 passes for 163 yards. ...

Ravens Rally Past Vikings 29-26 On Icy Field by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS December 08, 2013 6:11 PM BALTIMORE (AP) — At first, it appeared the unrelenting snow would be the main topic of conversation. Then came an incredible flurry of touchdowns — five over the final 125 seconds — that truly made this a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable football game. After Joe Flacco threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to rookie Marlon Brown with 4 seconds left to give the Baltimore Ravens a 29-26 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the Ravens couldn't contain their excitement. "Do you believe in miracles?" cornerback Jimmy Smith shouted as he ran off the field. "What just happened?" Ravens kicker Justin Tucker exclaimed. And Jacoby Jones, who took a kickoff back 77 yards for a touchdown during the back-and-forth excitement, said, "You couldn't even get emotional. It was too confusing." Brown's catch concluded a five-play, 80-yard drive that took only 41 seconds. Before that: —Dennis Pitta, in his season debut followin ...
