Let's take the time out to wish former NBA player, former general manager, and basketball Hall of Famer Wayne Embry a happy birthday today! Wayne Richard Embry (born 03/26/1937) has an 11-year career that spanned from 1959 to 1969. He played for the Cincinnati Royals, Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks all of the NBA. He attended Miami University and Tecumseh High School (both in Ohio) before that. He played in the NBA All-Star game for five consecutive seasons (1961–1965) and won the NBA Championship with the Celtics in 1968. Embry was originally drafted by the St. Louis Hawks in 1958. He was then traded closer to home weeks later to the Cincinnati Royals. The Royals were rebuilding due to the collapse of the team following the hospitalization of team star Maurice Stokes. Star center Clyde Lovellette was traded to St. Louis for Embry and four others. Not always a starter initially, Embry stuck around long enough for Oscar Robertson to arrive in 1960, reviving the fallen team. Embry, Robertson and Jack ...
Walter Ray Allen, Jr. (born July 20, 1975) is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). 1. Milwaukee Bucks (10-45): Jabari Parker (Duke) – Something like 34 percent of lottery selections from 2004 to 2008 are out of the league already and Parker has the highest floor of any prospect by a mile. 2. Philadelphia 76ers (15-41): Joel Embiid (Kansas) – GMs looking for a high ceiling player need not look further as Embiid is a top notch prospect who has been playing basketball for just three years. His offensive development has been nothing short of astonishing and he has drawn comparisons to Hakeem Olajuwon. 3. Orlando Magic (17-41): Andrew Wiggins (Kansas) – Wiggins has unquestionably faced growing pains this season, but his reputation has tended to magnify his struggles. The truth lies somewhere in between as he has certainly still been one of the country’s most impressive freshmen. 4. Boston Celtics (19-38): Dante Exum (Australia) – Scouts project Exum as a point guard at the next level largely due to his developed ball handling and passing. His excellent length for the position (he s ...

On January 9, 1972, 24-year-old Kareem Abdul-Jabbar leads the Milwaukee Bucks in a 120-104 victory over Wilt Chamberlain and the Los Angeles Lakers, breaking the Lakers’ record 33-game winning streak, the longest of any team in American professional sports. Coached by former Boston Celtics star Bill Sharman and led by future Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West and Gail Goodrich, the 1971-72 Lakers began their historic run of victories on November 5, 1971 when they beat the Baltimore Bullets in Baltimore, 110-106. They set a new NBA record with their 21st win on December 11, beating the Atlanta Hawks 104-95 and surpassing the 20-game winning streak the Bucks had put together the previous year. The defending National Basketball Association (NBA) champion Bucks got their revenge on January 9, when a keyed-up Abdul-Jabbar scored 39 points, outplaying Chamberlain (15 points) with more rebounds (20 vs. 12), blocked shots (10 vs. 6) and assists (5 vs. 2). Abdul-Jabbar’s dominance, combined with a "ge ...

QUESTION: What if NBA Hall of Famers MICHAEL JORDAN and SCOTTIE PIPPEN (Chicago Bulls), Hakeem Olajuwon, MOSES MALONE, CHARLES BARKLEY, and Clyde Drexler (Houston Rockets), Larry Bird and Bill Russell (Boston Celtics), Oscar Robertson (Milwaukee Bucks), ISIAH THOMAS (Detroit Pistons) and JULIUS ERVING (Philadelphia Sixers) were still playing in the NBA today? ANSWER: The ARROGANT Kobe Bryant and LeBron James will NEVER win an NBA Championship. These two ARROGANT players only won in a BORING period wherein there are NO MORE excellent NBA players.

Jones played at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, the same school that had produced Wilt Chamberlain a few years earlier. He played college ball at Villanova University. In his first NBA season, Jones played for the Baltimore Bullets and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. The next season, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he would play for the next six years. Jones and Hal Greer were the starting guards on the 1966-67 76ers team that also featured Chamberlain, Chet Walker, Lucious Jackson and Billy Cunningham. That team went 68-13 during the regular season, then easily won three playoff series in dethroning the eight-time defending NBA champion Boston Celtics. Jones made the 76ers' starting lineup after Larry Costello tore his Achilles tendon on January 6, 1967. Later, Jones played for the Baltimore Bullets, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Jones' son Askia[1] is the third-leading scorer in Kansas State University basketball history and played briefl
Good morning, y'all! Today is the debut of the NBA regular season. There are 30 teams reaching for that one prestigious goal: the NBA championship! Out of 30 teams, 12 of the teams have African American head coaches. They are Jason Kidd of the Brooklyn Nets, Mike Brown of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brian Shaw of the Denver Nuggets, Maurice Cheeks of the Detroit Pistons, Mark Jackson of the Golden State Warriors, Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers, Larry Drew of the Milwaukee Bucks, Monty Williams of the New Orleans Pelicans, Mike Woodson of the New York Knicks, Jacque Vaughn of the Orlando Magic, Dwane Casey of the Toronto Raptors, and Tyrone Corbin of the Utah Jazz. Only Doc Rivers has a ring when he won the title in 2008 when he coached the Boston Celtics while Jason Kidd is the only coach who won a title as a player when he did it in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. Brian Shaw finally got a head coaching job that was long overdue. Since he was in the shadow of legendary coach Phil Jackson, he should b ...

I listened to NBA Analyst Chris Webber last weak go into great lengths to indicate that the Eastern Conference of the NBA is so much worse than the Western Coonfernce. In fact his words were "The East is horrible" & this is not the case. Webber must not be paying attention to the standing. As it stands, the 7th team in the East is the Milwaukee Bucks at 23-19 & if they were in the West, they would be the 7th seed over the Utah Jazz & would push the currently 8th seeded Rockets out of the playoffs. In fact the only team in the East that under 500 & in playoff position are the Boston Celtics at 21-23. So while I know the perception in recent years is that the West is superior to the East, the reality is that the conferences are closer than Webber would lead you to believe from top to bottom.

Out of the blue got a call from a Los Angeles radio staton wanting to talk about the history of Canadian hoops in realtionship to NBA. Every so often various media outlets contact me for such as yours truly is considered a Canadian basketball historian and have written on such for the NBA over the many years. They caught me off guard with one question though, asking to name the current eight Canadians ready to suit up in opening night action tonight in NBA. Forgot one of the eight listed here: Joel Anthony, Miami Heat; Samuel Dalembert, Milwaukee Bucks; Cory Joseph, San Antonio Spurs; Kris Joseph, Boston Celtics; Steve Nash, Los Angeles Lakers; Andrew Nicholson, Orlando Magic; Robert Sacre, Los Angeles Lakers; Tristan Thompson, Cleveland Cavaliers But a quick question. The game has not happened yet so is it part of history? So in that I forgot, I never really knew yet as it did not happen?
