Today is Martin Luther King's birthday. It is hard for me to remember today without remembering another. It was April, 1968. I was a student in Paris but the university was closed due to the student riots and so I'd left the upheaval of Paris and gone to Israel to visit family in Tel Aviv. When my family fled Russia in the 1880s, escaping the pogroms, a portion went to Palestine where they had lived for almost a century. I was 19 but already I saw what problems the Middle East faced. Israel had just annexed the West Bank and East Jerusalem and despite my family's enthusiasm, even I knew that this was going to be a huge mistake. I left them to travel around the country and had spent a night of danger and fear, too complicated to go into here, wandering through East Jerusalem until I landed early in the morning in a cafe. I was exhausted, confused, and frightened by the world. I'd just ordered coffee and an omelette when a young man sitting across from me picked up an English newspaper and I read th ...
Psalm 83 identifies a 10-member coalition comprised of the Arab territories that mostly share common borders with Israel. Psalm 83:4 informs that this formidable alliance wants to destroy the Jewish State and banish the name of Israel once and for all. Psalm 83:6-8 provides the Old Testament identity of these belligerents, which could also include notable terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS and more.   ISIS is the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. “ISIS” is also known as “IS,” which simply means the Islamic State and “ISIL,” which stands for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The term ISIL, was adopted by the group after making sweeping territorial gains in Northern Syria and Northern Iraq. The subsequent name change implied that the organization would seek further regional advances.   The Levant is a term that generally identifies the greater Middle East region, which includes Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and parts of the S ...
A NEW LOW FOR THE CLUELESS by Adamu Adamu What does it take to change Nigeria’s foreign policy? A clueless president and a cell phone call from Benjamin Netanyahu; and you have a brand new centrepiece - for those looking for one. And it all came out at the United Nations Security Council deliberations on the application for Palestinian state. The Palestinian proposal, which called for peace with Israel within a year, an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territories by the end of 2017, an independent state of Palestine to be established within the 1967 Middle East borders—before Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, and a just solution to all other outstanding issues, including the return of Palestinian refugees, failed to pass a UN Security Council vote on Tuesday. Eight voted in favour, two voted against and five, including Nigeria, abstained. And it was Nigeria’s abstention that defeated the Palestinian dream. The two-state solution, which the Security Council voting h ...

A Middle East with no Israel? I'm NOT worried that , since to Jews WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGHT ! That’s what students in that region of the world will see when they open their new world atlases as provided by the American-based mega-corporation HarperCollins. And apparently this batch of maps did not come from the company’s fiction department. The Telegraph of London has reported the global publishing house sells English-language altlases to schools in the Middle East that show Syria and Jordan extending to the Mediterranean Sea. The West Bank and Gaza Strip are also shown, but Israel is nowhere to be found on the map. Erin Crum, vice president of corporate communications for HarperCollins, would not say how many of the maps had actually been delivered to customers in Arab countries. Besides some unflattering media coverage, the HarperCollins atlases also drew sharp criticism from the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, which accused the company of “harming peace efforts in the Middle East,” ...
PRESS RELEASE: FG'S BETRAYAL OF CONSCIENCE via Rabi-ul-awwal, 1436AH (1st January, 2015) Nigeria’s Federal Government openly traded off its conscience last Tuesday night at the United Nations Security Council meeting where voting on a proposed resolution to stop Israeli occupation of West Bank area of Palestine took place. The resolution was to be an historic resolution of the 66 year old Israeli/Palestinian conflict with a view to paving way for a two Nation solution thereby ventilating a peaceful atmosphere for the Middle East. At the meeting where the 15 member nations of the Security Council were to vote either for Israeli withdrawal or continuous occupation of the area, nine votes were to form the simple majority required to liberate the Palestinians from the political siege of Israel. Of those 15 member nations, eight voted in favour of the liberation while two voted for continuous Israeli siege on Palestine. The eight nations that voted for the latter’s liberation were Argentina, Chad, Chile, C ...

Irwin says Israel must engage with Hamas, argues that the two-state solution may be a lost cause, remains open to backing a cultural and academic boycott of Israel and provides unprecedented details about the Zionist lobby’s capture of newly minted Labor MPs. Irwin claims that her statements on the Israel/Palestine conflict over the years “have been broadly in line” with party policy and urges “an active role for the United Nations in the peace process”. Such a view “upset Israel supporters in Caucus” from 2002 onwards. Irwin comments that the UN is generally backed by the ALP — note the party’s opposition to the Iraq ...

Israel vexed at Spain’s move to recognise Palestinian state Israel has reacted with disappointment that Spain’s parliament will support the recognition of a Palestinian state. Spain’s symbolic move was intended to promote peace between the Palestinians and Israel. Britain and Ireland approved similar motions last month. Nearly two hundred nations recognise a Palestine state, including Sweden, and most of Asia, the Middle East and South America. The Israeli government has dismissed Spain’s move. “We think that such declarations of parliaments throughout Europe only contribute to the feeling of the Palestinians that they do not need to negotiate,” said Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon. In the West Bank, Palestinians welcomed the Spanish parliament’s move. “There is a momentum now to engage positively to recognise a state of Palestine and to invest in just peace otherwise Israel will pursue its policies of destroying the two state solution, destroying the chances of having ...

Please pass it on to your friends. For those who don't know, Dennis Miller is a comedian who has a show called Dennis Miller Live on HBO. Although he is not Jewish, he recently had the following to say about the Middle East situation: 'A brief overview of the situation is always valuable, so as a service to all Americans who still don't get it, I now offer you the story of the Middle East in just a few paragraphs, which is all you really n eed.' Here we go: The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like 'Wiccan,' 'Palestinian' sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in the 1967 war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, the West Bank was owned by Jor ...

BBC News - Israel to take over West Bank land
Letter to Roger Waters Dear Mr. Waters You certainly don’t disguise your unrelenting loathing of Israel. You are extremely vocal when it comes to criticizing Israel and how Israel fights defending its citizens and of course you are fully entitled to your opinion, it’s a free world, well it’s a free Western World. The problem I have with you Roger is that everything you utter on this subject is negative towards Israel and positive towards Palestinians. Somehow you always fail to see that every conflict has two sides and this failure is one of the reasons why there is an epidemic of racial and religious violence currently sweeping the Middle East. Of course it would be easy to point out to you the many errors and untruths in your articles and news conferences when you lambast Israel however you would probably only see this as some sort of Zionist propaganda? The purpose of this letter to you is to see if you can see the sense and good judgment in changing tack whilst not giving up on your support for ...
The disgusting history of Israel in a nutshell (search for each event between brackets) *Born out by the first terrorist groups in Middle East (Irgun, Haganah and Lehi) in 1947 . Another Jewish terrorist group was the Stern gang as well. They were around with Irgun and Haganah. It's funny that Jews fought against the nazis in the Warsaw ghetto by smuggling food, guns, and other essentials through a series of tunnels. But zionists nowadays call this tunnel system terrorism. The zionists: *Committed the first terrorist attack in Middle East (King David hotel bombing) against the British who promised them the land. *Ethnic cleansed 80% of historical Palestine, displaced 700,000 Palestinian, destroyed 1000 villages. *Backstabbed America TWICE by false flag attacks (USS Liberty-Lavon affair) resulted in 200 died and injured American, to get America involved in a war with Egypt. *Assassinated (Folke Bernadotte) Swedish Nobleman and diplomat to Palestine noted for his negotiation of the release of 31,000 prisone ...

RING OF POWER, Saturday 23rd of August To all Peaceworkers, As short as it was, the Love School in Tamera nevertheless moved people deeply, and visibly changed them. What happens, when we allow ourselves to bring truth into matters of love? What happens if we give the wild power of Eros an appropriate place in our lives – and if together we build social structures in which lies and violence no longer have any evolutionary advantage? There will be peace on earth, only when the war in love has ended. This is true also for the Middle East. Once again the war in Gaza and Israel is flaring up. The cease-fire agreements have failed. Once again the lives of children are sacrificed – out of fear, in defense of what someone thinks is the truth, and for economic interests. It is no secret that Gaza and the occupied West Bank are important testing grounds for the guns and rockets of the lucrative Israeli arms industry. Of course it is not only Israel: Every modern economy lives on weapons exports. They really ca ...
Dirty Scum of the earth Zionist settler dogs savage Palestinian kids. Israeli settlers have unleashed a large pack of dogs on Palestinian children, brutally injuring one near Salfit in the center of the occupied West Bank. The dogs harshly savaged the five-year-old boy, who is in dire need of several surgeries, including a facial reconstructive one. The boy, identified as Karmel Moayyad Shakir, was playing with his peers in the village of Azawiyeh when the illegal settlers from the nearby Kannat settlement arrived at the spot along with a large pack of dogs. Before the boy’s family could intervene, the dogs attacked the five-year-old who was lucky enough not to die, yet sustained severe injuries. “We were sitting in the house. My son went out to play with his friends when suddenly I heard the kids screaming and the sound of dogs. I ran out and saw more than 20 dogs attacking my son with the settlers in the background. There was so much blood we rushed him directly to hospital,” said Thikra Ashkira, ...
Secretary of State Kerry, today: Before we begin, I just want to say a very few words quickly about the events in Gaza and what is happening and what we’re trying to do. As you all know, I just returned from the Middle East and from Paris, where I had a series of discussions aimed at de-escalating the conflict, ending the rocket and tunnel attacks against Israeli civilians, and easing the suffering of innocent people everywhere – in Gaza, in Israel, in the West Bank. Today, we are continuing to work toward establishing an unconditional humanitarian ceasefire, one that could honor Eid, which begins now, and that will stop the fighting, allow desperately needed food and medicine and other supplies into Gaza, and enable Israel to address the threat which we fully understand and which is real – the threat posed by tunnel attacks – and to be able to do so without having to resort to combat. That is what could come from a ceasefire. We believe the momentum generated by a humanitarian ceasefire is the .. ...
On arrogance and war Marwan Bishara How and why is Israel weakening Abbas, strengthening Hamas, and destroying Gaza? Only a few weeks ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seemed to get away with it all. He rebuffed the Obama Administration's peace overtures, expanded illegal settlements in the West Bank, and reneged on his agreement with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas by refusing to release the last batch of prisoners, the 26 longest serving political prisoners in Israeli jails. Even the dramatic turn of events in the Middle East seemed to work in Israel's favour, as its nemeses grew ever more preoccupied, if not paralysed by their internal problems. As for Hamas, it was on a downturn and growing increasingly unpopular. It was financially bankrupt and unable to pay salaries to its own rather big bureaucracy running the Gaza Strip. It was under siege, and under pressure to do something, anything to ease life in the sprawling Gaza prison camp. The election of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as president ...
"In the last six weeks three Israeli teenagers were murdered in the West Bank, a Palestinian boy was burnt alive, an American kid was brutally beaten up by Israeli police, and now almost 100 Gazan kids have died in Israeli air strikes. This is not the "Middle East conflict", it's becoming a war on children. And we are becoming numb to this global shame. "
Nrisimhananda Dasa: I’m born Jewish. Let’s get that out of the way. I have identified as a Vaisnava three times longer than as a Jew in my life. I’m going on 67. I identify as a devotee of Krishna, not as a Jewish devotee. I’ve been to Israel three times; Gaza once (when it was open to everyone while being administrated by Israel in 1979). I drove all over the tiny country, and I jogged in and amongst Israeli and West Bank Arab Tal villages. I have limited, but tactile experience of the people in the Old City, including Palestinians, sabra’s (Israeli’s born there), and others from everywhere. Israeli society is cosmopolitan. I’ve chanted in the streets and beaches there. But I can’t dance and chant in Gaza even if it were open. I can’t do it in the West Bank either. Hamas, Hezbollah, and the PA (Palestinian Authority) won’t allow Hare Krishna’s to propagate their religion in public, and they make severe restrictions even in private. It’s that way all over the Middle East ...

THE GREAT BRITISH BLUNDERS OF 1916 AND 1917 In 1916, Britain and its allies were locked in a horrific epic war with Germany and its allies. Every possible means to vanquish the enemy was deployed — the first air war, the first widespread use of chemical weapons, and the largest attempts ever to manipulate deep-seated ethnic rivalries. Here's how that last aspect ties back to the Middle East: Germany formed an alliance with the great Turkish Ottoman Empire, the colonial power in what is today Israel, Gaza, West Bank, Jordon, Lebanon, Syria and beyond. So in an attempt to undermine the German-Ottoman alliance, the British persuaded Arab leaders to rebel against their Turkish rulers, promising to help the Arabs establish an independent state, including Palestine. Then, in the following year, the British made essentially the same promise again — but this time to the Jews in the region. To make things worse, Britain also cut a deal with France to carve up the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire and divide ...

A brief facts about Israel and the people & countries involved in its occupied creation. It's the bloody terrorist group called United Nation and The United Kingdom, the main culprits. Officially the State of Israel is a country in the Middle East, situated in the region of Western Asia, on the south-eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It shares land borders with Lebanon in the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan on the east, the Palestinian Territories (or State of Palestine) comprising the West Bank and Gaza Strip on the east and southwest respectively, Egypt and the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea to the south, and it contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. In its Basic Laws, Israel defines itself as a Jewish and Democratic State; it is the world's only Jewish-majority state. On 29 November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly recommended the adoption and implementation of the partition plan of Mandatory Palestine. On 14 May 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the Execut ...

Netanyahu reacts to Presbyterian divestment vote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement on Sunday reacting to a vote taken late last week by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA) to divest from three companies which supply Israeli security agencies protecting Israel from terrorists based in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. "When the Middle East is fragmented in this horrible war...the only place where you have freedom, tolerance, protection of minorities, protection of *** protection of Christians and all other faiths is Israel," said Netanyahu told a group of visiting journalists, adding that they should help Israel "defeat a lie ... with truth, with facts, with courage." He went on to suggest "let's arrange a bus tour for (Presbyterians) in the region. Let them go to maybe Syria, Lebanon, Iraq. And my only suggestion for them is that - well, I have two suggestions for them. One, that it be an armor-plated bus; and two, that they shouldn't announce that they're Christ . ...

Wading into the heart of Middle East tensions, Pope Francis also endorsed “the State of Palestine” in symbolic visits to the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The pope began a three-day trip to the Middle East with a stop in Jordan before visits to the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” (Proverbs 12:19) "Is the Pope the false prophet?" Pope Francis landed in the West Bank town of Bethlehem on Sunday morning as part of his two day tour of Israel and Palestinian Territories. Greeted by thousands of followers, the pope arrived in a Jordanian military helicopter. Speaking alongside Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday, Pope Francis called the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinians “increasingly unacceptable.” He urged both sides to unite together to make everlasting peace. “The time has come for everyone to find the courage…to forge a peace which rests on the acknowledgement by all of the right of two states to exist and to live in peace and security within internationally recognized borders,” the Pope said. On pope’s trip to Israel, rabbi and sheik will be traveling companions. With a rabbi and a Muslim sheik as his travel companions, Pope Francis is heading to the Middle East with what he hopes will be a powerful message of interfaith respect. It will be the first time that leaders of other faiths are part of an official papal delegation. The aim is to send “an extremely strong and explicit signal” about interfaith dialogue and the “normality” of having friends of other religions, chief Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi told reporters. Starting Saturday, the three-day pilgrimage will take the 77-year-old pontiff to Jordan, the West Bank and Israel. The packed agenda includes courtesy calls on government leaders; open-air Masses; meetings with Christian, Muslim and Jewish religious authorities; and visits to holy sites of the three religions. The two men joining Francis are friends with whom the pope frequently collaborated when he was the archbishop of Buenos Aires: Rabbi Abraham Skorka, fo ...

The world is now aware of the bias and bigotry of Oxfam International in objecting to Scarlett Johansson’s decision to become a spokesperson for the Israeli company SodaStream because of the company’s factory in an Israeli settlement town. Oxfam considers Israeli settlements illegal and thus in violation of international law. In addition to its support of a boycott of trade with Israeli settlements, Oxfam has not adhered to a policy of neutrality in the Middle East. It has issued statements calling on Israel to end its supposed restrictions – i.e., checkpoints and roadblocks – on free movement of people and goods in the West Bank. An important question now is whether Oxfam International can claim to come to the Middle East table with its moral righteousness intact. Certainly its declared neutrality in the conflict between Israel and Palestinians can be challenged by knowledge of the activity of some of its affiliates. One example of partisan activity is that the Dutch-branch Oxfam Novib and O ...
Imagine, if you will, a Middle East that accepted Israel's right to exist. Imagine the billions of aid dollars going into Gaza and West Bank being used to build roads, powerplants, schools where hate is not part of the curriculum. Imagine every Palestinian having access to electricity, indoor plumbing and running water instead of RPGs and C4. Imagine Arab and Jew living side-by-side and their kids playing soccer together in the streets. Imagine a bus ride that will never end in an explosion and death. This is what you would get - if only the Muslim world accepted Israel's right to exist.
I already didn't like Governor Chris Christie as it was, and the nail in the coffin was Christie saying Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria are in occupied territory. He went from stupid to just plain ignorant. Judea and Samaria were renamed to the West Bank after Jordan ILLEGALLY occupied Israel after the Independence war of 1948 until the Yom Kippor war of 1967, including the eastern part of Jerusalem. People really don't know their history of who stole and occupied land do they, especially in regards to the Middle East. Christie has zero support from this writer, and even less than that now after this comment. משה

Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama told Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas on Monday that both he and Israel's politicians must be prepared to make tough decisions and take "risks" for peace. Abbas arrived at the White House two weeks after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that time was running short for a final deal, and said Israel could show it was serious by honoring a scheduled release of Palestinian prisoners this month. Obama, personally supporting Secretary of State John Kerry's exhaustive Middle East peace drive at a critical moment, is pressing both sides to accept a framework to carry negotiations past an end-of-April deadline. "As I said to Prime Minister Netanyahu when he was here just a few weeks ago, I believe that now is the time . to embrace this opportunity," Obama said. "It is very hard, very challenging. We are going to have to take some tough political decisions and risks if we're able to move it forward." Obama said that everyone already understood the shape ...

another side of the story Israel MYTH 1: JEWS HAVE LITTLE HISTORICAL CONNECTION TO ISRAEL Jews have lived continuously in the land of Israel for over 3000 years; the Arabs arrived through multiple invasions, beginning in the 7th Century AD. In the year 70 AD, when the Jewish civilization was already over 1000 years old, the Romans forced most of the Jews of Judea and Samaria (now the West Bank) into exile. By the end of the 19th Century, the majority population of Jerusalem was Jewish. MYTH 2: ISRAEL IS AN APARTHEID STATE “Apartheid” refers to the system created by South Africans in which “non-white” residents of that nation were denied citizenship and basic civil rights, and were forced to live in separate residential areas with segregated and inferior educational and medical services. Those wishing to demonize and destroy Israel now falsely call it “an Apartheid state.” But the only true Apartheid states in the Middle East are Islamic States in which Jews are not allowed to live and where .. ...

Israel Foils Al Qaeda Plot Against US Embassy By Brigitte Gabriel Time and time again, Israel has proven to be America’s closest, most reliable ally in the Middle East. Last week we saw the latest example of Israel’s dedication to America as an ally when Israel’s Shin Bet security service announced that it had arrested Al Qaeda terrorists who were part of a cell plotting to launch an attack on the US embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. Shin Bet indicated that the three terrorists, two from Jerusalem and one from the West Bank, were recruited by an Al Qaeda terrorist operative based in the Gaza Strip who worked directly for Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. The suicide bomb attack on the US embassy was to be part of an audacious plan to conduct simultaneous attacks on three targets in Israel, the other two targets being an Israeli transit bus and a neighborhood in East Jerusalem. While there have been fears of an Al Qaeda presence in Israel for some time now, this plot is the first indication of actual, ac ...
PRESS RELEASE: Christian Peacemaker Teams Challenges Denial of Entry in Israel ` Contact: Jonathan Brenneman palestine-advocacy25, 2014) Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) has filed a brief with the Israeli High Court charging that Israel has been systematically denying their volunteers entry into the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt). U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's draft framework agreement for Middle East peace talks will include support for establishing a Palestinian capital in Arab areas of East Jerusalem, senior New York Times analyst Thomas Friedman wrote in his column published Wednesday. Friedman, who is currently visiting Israel, said that Kerry's framework document would present the core concessions that Washington considers Israelis and Palestinians need to make for a fair, lasting deal. In his column, Friedman spells out the points he believes the document will contain: "The 'Kerry Plan,' likely to be unveiled soon, is expected to call for an end to the conflict and all claims, following a phased Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank [based on the 1967 lines], with unprecedented security arrangements in the strategic Jordan Valley," writes Friedman. "The Israeli withdrawal will not include certain settlement blocs, but Israel will compensate the Palestinians for them with Israeli territory," he writes. "It will call fo ...
Mohammed T. Obidallah ⎪ 23 janvier 2o14 THE GREEN INTIFADA IN BATTIR: AN EXAMPLE OF COOPERATION AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Battir is a Palestinian village 8 KM south west of Jerusalem. It is surrounded by traditionally irrigated, beautiful terraces, cultivated with eggplants, peppers and olive trees. The water flows through a Roman-era irrigation system down into the valley where a railway track — a section of the Jaffa-Jerusalem railway built in Ottoman times (1896). The area is a human heritage dotted with tombs and ruins, historical stonewall terraces and unique irrigation system date back to the Roman era. It testifies to 4000 years of terraced cultivation which is fed by seven, abundant natural springs. In 2004 the Israeli government started to build a “Separation Barrier” in the West Bank, which actually surrounds Bethlehem and is de facto creating a progressive isolation of the area of Battir and neighboring villages from the city of Bethlehem. As of today, a segment of the Separation Barri ...
(Any history or geography textbook ever pointed out the Middle East to be unimportant?) More American Jews Studying Arab World By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA Miriam Berger studied Arabic at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, lived twice as a student in Jordan, did thesis research in the West Bank and, after graduation, worked in Cairo. And like many Americans she has met along the way, she is Jewish. “I don’t see it as a contradiction at all,” said Ms. Berger, 23, who grew up near Philadelphia where she attended a Jewish day school. “I grew up hearing so much about the Middle East, how it was this dangerous place we can’t understand, but as I learned more, every day it felt like old ideas were being challenged, and I wanted to contribute to better understanding.” In the United States, colleges and universities are riding a two-decade surge in Middle East Studies, reflecting that region’s consistent pull on American economics and security. And while there are no definitive demographic numbers, stud ...

Former Israeli PM Ariel Sharon dies at 85 Ariel Sharon, whose half century as a military and political leader in Israel was marked with victories and controversies, died Saturday after eight years in a coma, Israeli Army Radio reported. Sharon was 85. Sharon died at Sheba Medical Center in the Tel Aviv suburb of Tel Hashomer. The Israeli statesman was a national war hero to many Israelis for his leadership, both in uniform or as a civilian, during every Israeli war. Many in the Arab World called Sharon “the Butcher of Beirut” after he oversaw Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon while serving as defense minister. He was a major figure in many defining events in the Middle East for decades, including his decision to turn over Gaza and parts of the West Bank to Palestinian control. Throughout, he was called a “The Bulldozer,” a fearless leader who got things done. The reaction in his own right-wing Likud Party to his order to the military to drag some Israeli settlers from their homes in Gaza led Sha ...

Twenty-six Palestinian prisoners have been released from Israeli jails. The release, carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, is part of a US-brokered package to restart Middle East negotiations. It comes a day before US Secretary of State John Kerry is set to return to the region in a bid to boost the faltering negotiations. Al Jazeera's Nick Schifrin, reporting from Ramallah, said that peace talks were fragile and that it was not clear if Kerry would be successful. Tuesdays's release was expected to be followed by announcements of new construction plans for Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Israeli supporters of the peace talks said the expected construction would destroy any goodwill created by the prisoner release, while hardline allies criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for linking the Jewish settlement cause with the release of prisoners convicted in connection with killings, mostly of Israelis. Convicted of killings The release is the third of four ...
Update: Secretary of State John Kerry returning to Jerusalem and West Bank on January 1 for another round of diplomacy on Middle East peace -
The last few weeks I've been facing the greatest challenge ever since I started making music. I have always believed strongly in music as a means to dialogue and togetherness, and have received messages and emails from all around the world confirming that music can be an eye-opener and widen the horizon of the listener, as it is to me. I've been hoping that this also holds true for the situation in the Middle East, where Israeli forces are still ignoring the international call to leave the occupied West Bank, continues to build illegal settlements on occupied land and still discriminates its own Palestinian population to a degree which isn't at all tolerable. After the announcement of the Tel Aviv concert in February I've been introduced to the BDS movement, a movement calling for a boycott of Israeli products, academics and culture. In their opinion, an international boycott of Israel is the last and only measure that can be taken. Dialogue has failed for decades and only seems to weaken the Palestinians ...

Snow In Egypt For The First Time In 100 Years The snow that has blanketed much of the Middle East turned Cairo white on Friday - with local news reports claiming it was Egypt's capital's first snowfall in 112 years. In Jerusalem, local media reported that schools and roads were closed, and transport suspended after four inches of snow - the most since 1953. Palestinian and Israeli children shaped clusters into snowmen across the divided capital, with boys shrieking with delight as they put the finishing touches to a frosty man outside the gold-domed Al Aqsa Mosque. "Last week, the chief rabbis asked Jews around the world to pray for rain in Israel since winter had begun with a dry spell," Jewish online magazine Tablet reported. "Apparently, it worked." Snow, sleet and icy winds have covered Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, deepening the troubles of many war refugees, living in freezing tents. Many have melted snow on their stoves, their only source of drinking water. In the West Bank and Gaza, UN relief teams o ...

Israelis kill three more Palestinians in occupied West Bank
Natural born stateless At the beginning of 2013, more than 45 million people had been forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of armed conflict, violence and Human Rights violations, and the number is rising every day. In the October issue of the Al Jazeera digital magazine, we tell some of their stories - from the Rohingya babies born stateless in IDP camps in Myanmar to the Afghans risking their lives to reach European cities where they encounter dangers and difficulties as real as those they fled. We explore the power of the Right of Return to unite generations of Palestinians, whether they reside in refugee camps in the Middle East or comfortable homes in the West. While, in Lebanon, we meet Palestinians who have once again been forced to flee - this time from the conflict in Syria. We examine traditional cultures - from the Bedouin of the West Bank to the Dongria Kondh tribe in India - facing the threat of extinction as their relationship with the land that sustains them is pushed to its limits by f ...
Israel threatens to demolish 10 wells in occupied West Bank (Middle East Monitor)
-- THOUGHTS ON "WORKPLACE VIOLENCE" AND "OVERSEAS CONTINGENCY OPERATIONS" AND "RELIGIONS OF PEACE" . . . On the occasion of the outreach from Iran, and the embarrassment in Syria, it is wise to remember why and how our leaders became so inept at dealing with Islamists. The Tsarnaev brothers killed and maimed in service to their version of Islam. So did Major Hasan, screaming Allahu Akbar as he shot his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. The Middle East is undergoing the greatest religious cleansing of Christians of the modern age. This month, eighty Christians were blown up in a church in Peshawar, Pakistan — charged, tried, and executed in a nanosecond by Muslim suicide bombers. At about the very same time, gunmen of the Islamist terrorist group Al Shabaab from Somalia murdered nearly 70 shoppers — after torturing and mutilating many of their victims — in a Nairobi shopping mall during a children’s event. None of these massacres had anything to do with the West Bank, Americans in Iraq, maltreatment o ...
The final seven years – the road to Armageddon We’ve already discussed several of the major events that will happen in the final seven years. I’m not going to go into great detail in this book but I am hoping to help you understand what's coming right now and in the very near future. The confirmation of the covenant discussed previously is the event that marks the beginning of the final seven years. This confirmation has not happened yet. The Quartet, or the Big Four; the EU, UN, US and Russia, have met to confirm the “Roadmap for Peace” in the Middle East several times but can't make it stick yet. The plan includes all the necessary steps to confirm the covenant. Today the Arab League and the Quartet along with other entities are doing everything they can to establish a Palestinian state and bring an agreement together between Israel and Palestine. Israel leaders have even stated that they are willing to share sovereignty of the Temple Mount and give the West Bank (Judea) back to the Palestinia ...

EU tells Israel to explain seizure of Palestinian aid Senior European Union officials told Israel to explain why its soldiers seized a truckload of humanitarian aid intended for Palestinians, saying they deplored the confiscation. Israeli soldiers manhandled European diplomats on Friday and seized tents and emergency aid they had been trying to deliver to Palestinians whose homes were demolished this week. A Reuters reporter saw soldiers throw sound grenades at a group of diplomats, aid workers and locals in the occupied West Bank, and yank a French diplomat out of the truck before driving it away. "EU representatives have already contacted the Israeli authorities to demand an explanation and expressed their concern at the incident," a statement issued by the spokesmen for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva said on Saturday. Relations between Israel and the EU have been strained over the EU's decision, announced in July, to bar financial assista ...
I say Abbas should accept and turn rest of West Bank into biggest Casino in the Middle East.
The question is why the double standards? Is our blood not red as well? Are our lives not as important as that of others? If Al Shabab in East Africa, the Islamic Salvation Front in Algeria, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Al Qaeda in the North African Sahel and in the Middle East, the Mehdi Army in Iraq, Abu Sayyaf in the Phillipines, the Janjaweed in the Sudan, the Lords Resistance Army in Uganda, Hamas in Gaza, Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, the Islamic International Brigade in Chechnya and the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan are labelled as terrorist organisations by the Americans then why is Boko Haram of Nigeria exempt from that same label? When you take Israels territorial landmass of Israel proper, the territories of Gaza and the West Bank as well of the Golan Heights Israels landmass represents (27,770 square kilometers) . Lebanon has over 10,000 square km, Syria represents 180,000 square kilometers, Jordan 92 sq km, Egypt has over 1,000,000,000 km², and Saudi Arabia represents a 2.2 million square kilometers. Clearly Israel is a small portion of the Middle East and yet all her neighbors cannot tolerate a single inch of a kilometer that belongs to the Jewish people.

Obama Carries 3 Goals On Trip To Israel by THE Associated Press March 11, 2013 WASHINGTON (AP) — Three goals will dominate President Barack Obama's coming visit to Israel, his first as president: Convincing Israel and its leadership he means what he says about stopping Iran from building a nuclear weapon, mending a deeply troubled relationship with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and, in return, enticing Israel back to negotiations with the Palestinians. Some of the cosmic stars of diplomacy and Middle East reality are lining up to make the visit a success. Others are not. Whatever the outcome, the visit that will also take Obama to the West Bank and Jordan will mark a significant step by the president deeper into a problem that has bedeviled American leaders for decades. Managing expectations, therefore, is essential in the remaining two weeks before Obama sets off on his mission. Palestinian and Iranian issues dominated Obama's remarks in a White House briefing with representatives of major U.S. Jew ...

When students learned of Fean's presence on campus, they staged a protest outside the offices of the university administration, chanting nationalistic songs and anti-British slogans. Dozens of students shouting, "Get out of Birzeit!" attacked Fean's car as it left the campus. Protesters were also holding placards reading "I am a refugee because of Lord Balfour", Israel Radio reported. Fean's "intention had been to engage in an open dialogue with the student communi ...

More Deaths and Injuries from US Tear Gas in Palestine, around the Middle East, and in Oakland January 15, 2012 - US-made Tear Gas, manufactured by companies like Combined Systems Inc. (CSI), Defense Technology, and NonLethal Technologies, continues to be used by governments including Egypt, Israel, Yemen, Bahrain and the United States to repress popular protest movements for economic and social justice. In response, Human Rights advocates will protest again on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 16th, 2012, outside CSI's Jamestown, Pennsylvania headquarters (see past Protests against Israel's Tear Gas use). In advance of the protest, reports indicate that CSI has replaced the Israeli flag that previously flew alongside the US flag outside its headquarters with a Pennsylvania state flag. Strong evidence that CSI canister killed Palestinian protester Mustafa Tamimi: On December 9, 2011, in the village of Nabi Saleh in the West Bank an Israeli soldier inside an armored military jeep fired a Tear Gas caniste ...
PCIME Consultant Alan F.H. Wisdom calls for more careful reflection by church leaders: Respecting Our Friends in Israel A frequent argument in mainline Protestant statements on the Middle East goes like this: The United States needs to press Israel to make unilateral concessions to the Palestinians. Israel’s presence in the disputed territories is the main obstacle to peace, and if that obstacle can be removed, then the path to peace is open. The U.S., as Israel’s chief ally, is in a position to make the Israelis bend. They will have to listen because America is their best friend, and it supplies their arms. The U.S. is the most powerful nation in the world, and if it really wanted a Mideast peace deal, and if it were prepared to lean hard enough on Israel, it could make a deal happen. My own denomination, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has repeatedly indulged this kind of thinking. Its most recent Mideast policy statement asserts that Israeli settlements and troops on the West Bank are “the majo ...

WIFF's first film of 2013 is the Palestine | Israel | France | Netherlands co-pro, 5 Broken Cameras, showing 10 February at 5:30pm. Behind the camera is Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat, recording a first-hand and deeply personal account of non-violent resistance in Bil'in, his West Bank village. He and Israeli co-director Guy Davidi have created a poignant and intense snapshot of a village beset by Israeli settlers, and suffering the construction of the controversial "protection" barrier. It's a brutal situation and one that requires discussion. So, WIFF has assembled a panel of experts to speak to it after the show, with participation from audience members. Leading the discussion will be Arthur Milner, perhaps best known in the National Capital Region as the erstwhile Artistic Director of the Great Canadian Theatre Company. Arthur is also a playwright and has written two plays about the Middle East, Masada (1991) and Facts(2010), which toured Palestine and Israel, in Arabic translation, in Septem ...

"Israel is in an existential crisis. It can wall itself off and annex what it wants on the West Bank, and leave Palestinians in tiny truncated, nonviable bantustans that will become the spawning pools of terror. Or it can give the Palestinians what Oslo, Camp David, Taba and the 'roadmap' promised; a homeland, a nation and a state of their own. Israel is free to choose. But American needs a Middle East policy made in the USA, not in Tel Aviv, or at AIPAC or AEI." - Pat Buchanan.
RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) - Israel's electoral nudge to the center may limit Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's freedom to set policy toward Iran and the Palestinians, but few in the Middle East expect
So apparently Obama's nomination for Defense Secretary, Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel, is predicted to be "most antagonistic secretary of Defense towards the state of Israel in our nation’s history” by another Senator. Personally, that just makes him that much better as a candidate. While I understand that the US has had a longstanding relationship with the Jewish State, I also understand that Israel uses its Toranic basis to throw its weight around, presuming that International Laws don't apply to God's chosen people. The World Court has convicted the UN of several Human Rights violations, mostly in the West Bank, and their racist domestic policy pushes the system, as a whole, to the brink of fascism. Israel has done absolutely nothing to make up for this, throwing the race card for every anti-Israeli remark ever made, making the matter that much worse. Much of the Middle East hates us anyway, so our affiliation with Israel makes them hate us that much more. Distancing ourselves from Israel will do no ...
In the light of the current debate yet again on the issue of one-state vs two-states solution in Palestine, here is an op-ped I posted in Denver Post in 2004 A one-state solution in the Mideast, by Ibrahim Kazerooni, Denver Denver Post, Compass Column -- Op-Ed, April 24, 2004 The settling of America was in many ways a model for European Jewish settlement, beginning in the late 1800s, of historic Palestine. In both cases, immigrants were looking for opportunities and a refuge from religious persecution and discrimination in Europe. As in America, Jewish settlers coming to historic Palestine discovered an indigenous population not entirely thrilled with the idea of foreigners settling on their land. While recent Middle East peace efforts have focused on how to get Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and Gaza in order to create a "two-state solution" - one Jewish State and one Palestinian Christian-Muslim state - why not do as it was done in America and have one state with guaranteed rights and liberties f ...
Noor: TV Soap a Threat to Islam? There is a craze sweeping like wild fire across the Middle East from Saudi Arabia to the West Bank, from Syria and Lebanon to Oman and Yemen and all points in between. “Noor” is a wildly popular lavish Turkish soap opera, and interestingly enough, it was a big flop in Turkey when it first aired there two short years ago. But the producers had a great idea: dub it over in Arabic and air it in the neighboring Middle Eastern countries and see what happens. I’m sure even the producers could not have predicted in their wildest dreams what happened next. “Noor” has become a phenomenon, causing a sensation on many levels. First off, the surprise smash hit is responsible for a dramatic increase in tourism to Turkey, a real boon for its economy. “Noor” has become so fiercely popular that my brother-in-law (a Saudi Arabian Airlines retiree) recently told me that it’s practically impossible to get an airline reservation to Istanbul. The flights are packed with people ...
Israel approves new homes in West Bank - Middle East - Al Jazeera English
10. The United States should cease blocking United Nations Security Council resolutions critical of Israel. If the Israelis continue their illegal blockade of Gaza and their massive land theft from the Palestinians of the West Bank, the UNSC should place economic sanctions on Israel. The US moves to paralyze the UNSC on the Palestine issue are the height of hypocrisy, similar to the diplomatic cover it gives the government of Bahrain. Note that among the most severe sanctions in history are being applied to Iran, for doing things that Israel has also done. American hypocrisy on Palestine has long detracted from the moral authority of the US and the UN in the Middle East, and weakens American diplomacy and soft power, to the detriment of US interests.(Juan Cole)
If you think the picture below is true, I want you to know the truth. The fact is that the Middle East, from Algeria to Bagdad and Iran to Budapest, was once a part of the Ottoman Empire. Europe took that empire away from the Turks in the early nineteen-hundreds, and Europe divided it up among themselves. This was one of many empires, like the Roman and the Byzantine empires, that had conquered the land since the Jews--who are the only people to have had an actual homeland there--lost it to the Greeks a bit before Jesus's time. The Europeans divided the conquered lands among themselves, and they in turn gave those lands to local rulers to form Syria, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, and so on. The area called Palestine was given to Great Britian, and it was agreed that Palestine would be given to the Jews who lived there to form a safe haven for Jews in the one and only original Jewish homeland. However, as soon as the British did, their first act was to give three-quarters of the British colony of Palestine, the par ...
By Andrew Sullivan via Neil Reichline "...My ennui comes from the now obvious conclusion. With each of these incursions, Israel is even further embittering and alienating the next generation of Arabs, a generation that will likely determine the future of an increasingly democratic and populist Middle East. As time goes by, technology will also steadily increase the chances of conflict reaching within 1967-lines Israel itself. As Hamas's and Hezbollah's rockets gain greater range and accuracy, Israel's relentless colonization of Palestinian land on the West Bank will encourage them further. In other words, without diplomacy toward a two-state solution, we are looking at a lifetime of constant Israeli warfare against all of its neighbors, deeper isolation in the region (with Turkey and Egypt already fast moving away) and growing international pariah status as Greater Israel becomes more fundamentalist and less democratic. And at some point, as America's energy revolution leaves us less and less exposed to M ...

Natural Disasters and Harming Israel Is there a connection between natural disasters and harming Israel? This is not my post. It was sent to me and I am sharing it. It has some interesting correlations between the weather, and forcing Israel to give up land. God’s Final Warning to America Below is a sampling of “record-size” natural events which coincided when the United States pressured Israel to give up its land for peace, as documented in John McTernan’s book, “God’s Final Warning to America“. Nine Major “Acts Of God” That Coincided With The Timing of US Pressure On Israel To Give Up Land October 30, 1991: President George Bush opens the Madrid Conference with an initiative for a Middle East peace plan involving Israel’s land. On the same day, an extremely rare storm forms off the coast of Nova Scotia. (It was eventually tagged “The Perfect Storm,” and a book and movie were made about it.) Record-setting 100-foot waves form at sea and pound the New England Coast, even causing he ...
An important event happened in the Middle East. The Ruler of Qatar and Wife pay an official visit to the HAMAS Government of Gaza Strip (antagonist to Dr. Abbas' FATAH Government rulling the West Bank) officializing in this way the existence of TWO Palestinian Authorities ( a West Bank Authority ruled by the secular FATAH, and a HAMAS fondamentalist one in Gaza Strip). The difference between the two is that HAMAS is not ready and willing to reach any Peace Treaty with Israel, ready only for an Armistice ("Hudna", in Arabic) at long term, while officially, FATAH would be ready to a Peace with Israel. In fact, FATAH is afraid to go to a Peace Treaty with Israel (that would impose some compromises, as any Peace Treaty does) for not losing the public support being declared by the HAMAS Government as traitors. Then it is stacked.
Obama "I will stand with Israel if it is attacked." Of course it will be a smaller target when he makes Israel reduce their borders to pre-1967 boundaries...which gives the West Bank, including Jerusalem, to the Palestenians as well as the Gaza Strip. He's already told the Israeli Prime Minister that Israel should give all this land to the Palestinians. That's not the kind of "stand" the US needs to make. It's our only democratic ally in the Middle East.
P.S.--For those of you in New York, this OCTOBER 25, there will be a protest outside Carnegie Hall where the Israeli Philamonic will be performing a PR concert for Israel's occupation of the West Bank and seige on Gaza. He gave his life to protect the country he cared for. The country that should have cared for him, fed him to the wolfs. Because no one from the top down did their jobs!! If they let him die so easy, how do you think they feel about you and your family. Let us honor and remember the victims. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families. RIP. J. Christopher Stevens was in many ways the model American diplomat, committed, idealistic, willing to take risks and eager to find out what was really happening in obscure corners of the world. A lanky 52-year-old Californian, with a burst of brown hair, Stevens also looked the part. "He was always smiling, unruffled, projecting what I think of as a cool California demeanor, in the best sense," said Robert Danin, a former Middle East hand at the State Department who worked closely with Stevens. A UC Berkeley graduate who was confirmed as ambassador to Libya in May, Stevens well knew the dangers inherent in his hands-on style. From 2007 to 2009, he served ...

Anti-Israel Bias in the Media, Yet Again Dear Friend of Israel, Last Sunday, 60 Minutes, the CBS weekly news program, aired a piece lamenting what it called an “exodus” of Christians from the Holy Land. At first glance, this sounds like a story that needs to be told. After all, Coptic Christians and churches in Egypt have been attacked by radical Islamist mobs. Terrorists regularly target churches in Iraq. A Catholic news agency recently reported on what it called “an ongoing ethnic cleansing of Christians” by radical Islamists in Syria. Surely, it is time we confronted this ugly reality, and did something about it. While the 60 Minutes report did, in passing, mention the oppression of Christians by radical Islamists throughout the Middle East, ultimately it opted not to tell this story. “Christians of the Holy Land,” as the piece was titled, revealed itself to be exactly what Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, who was interviewed for the segment, told interviewer Bob Simon he fe ...
