Middle East & Golan Heights

The Middle East or Mideast is a region that encompasses Western Asia and Northern Africa. The Golan Heights (or مرتفعات الجولان , ), referred to as the Syrian Golan by the United Nations, and as the Golan by other sources, forms a rocky plateau in the Anti-Lebanon mountains that overlooks southern Syria. 5.0/5

I agree with Israel. We need to keep the Al-Assad family of Syria (Bashar al-Assad as brutal as he is) in power for regional stability reasons. ... Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and later annexed the strategic area in a move that has never been internationally recognized. While relations are hostile, the ruling Assad family in Syria has kept the border area with Israel quiet for most of the past 40 years. Israel is concerned that Assad's ouster could push the country into the hands of Islamic State extremists or other al-Qaida linked militants, or plunge the region further into sectarian warfare. Latest from Golan Heights Collapse of UN peacekeeping mission on Golan Heights marks new era on Israel-Syria front ARON HELLER The Associated Press Published Thursday, Sep. 18 2014, 3:58 AM EDT Last updated Thursday, Sep. 18 2014, 5:13 AM EDT For four decades, a multinational United Nations mission has quietly monitored the sleepy Golan Heights — providing a symbol of stability between bitter enemies as it enforced a truce between Israel and Syria. But as Syria has plunged into civil war and the peacekeepers themselves have become targets of al-Qaeda-linked rebels, the UN observer force has begun to fall apart, leaving its future — and the prospects for ever establishing peace in this rugged area of the Middle East — in doubt. The Coming Psalm 83 (regional) War! - While we watch the seizing of freedom in America and the steady march to the collapse of the dollar [which is taking world economies with it], the Middle East is starting to come unglued. We are a front row witness to the prophetic setting of the stage for the War of Gog & Magog. We have seen alliances form between lifelong enemies Russia and Iran while at the same time countries like Turkey move from leaning to the west to path of strategic alliance with Russia and Iran. We are very close to the War of Gog & Magog, but before this happens there will be a Middle East war that will quickly start, rapidly conclude, and then soon followed by the War of Gog & Magog. Looking at the road ahead, Israel is on the verge of a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. It is likely that this strike will either initiate this war or start a chain reaction of events that will quickly lead to this war. The Bible tells us that the nation of Israel accomplishes all the prerequisi ...
this was sent to me… im obliged to post it as it was sent without edit: Is there a connection between natural disasters and harming Israel? This is not my post. It was sent to me and I am sharing it. It has some interesting correlations between the weather, and forcing Israel to give up land. God’s Final Warning to America Below is a sampling of “record-size” natural events which coincided when the United States pressured Israel to give up its land for peace, as documented in John McTernan’s book, “God’s Final Warning to America“. Nine Major “Acts Of God” That Coincided With The Timing of US Pressure On Israel To Give Up Land October 30, 1991: President George Bush opens the Madrid Conference with an initiative for a Middle East peace plan involving Israel’s land. On the same day, an extremely rare storm forms off the coast of Nova Scotia. (It was eventually tagged “The Perfect Storm,” and a book and movie were made about it.) Please look at past events in relation to people mistreating Israel: October 30, 1991: The Perfect Storm—As President George H. W. Bush is opening the Madrid (Spain) Conference to consider “land for peace” in Israel’s Middle East role, the “Perfect Storm” develops in the North Atlantic, creating the largest waves ever recorded in that region. The storm travels 1000 miles from “east to west” instead of the normal “west to east” pattern, mercilessly crashing into the New England Coast. Thirty-five foot waves smacked into the Kennebunkport home of President Bush. (This also created massive tornado action across the Midwest in “Tornado-Alley”. The movie “The Perfect Storm” was made from this storm.) August 23, 1992: Hurricane Andrew—When the Madrid Conference moves to Washington DC and the peace talks resume, Hurricane Andrew, the worst natural disaster ever to hit America, arrives ashore and produces an estimated $30 billion in damage, while leaving 180,000 homeless in Florida . ...
Thursday, June 5, 2014 American Minute JUNE 5, 1967, the Six-Day War began. Egypt had 80,000 troops and 900 tanks advancing on Israel. Jordan and Syria, with Soviet weapons, violently shelled Jerusalem and Israeli villages. Cairo radio announced: "The hour has come in which we shall destroy Israel." The hot line between Washington and Moscow was used for the first time. In a surprise move, Israeli Air Force destroyed 400 Egyptian planes, courageously drove Syria from the Golan Heights and captured all of Jerusalem. In a CBS-TV interview, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion stated: "In Israel, in order to be a realist you must believe in miracles." Seven months later, at a dinner at the LBJ Ranch in Texas, President Lyndon B. Johnson toasted Israeli Prime Minister Eshkol, saying: "That is our intention in the Middle East and throughout our world. To pursue peace. To find peace. To keep peace forever among men. If we are wise, if we are fortunate, if we work together-perhaps our Nation and all nations may know ...
Dispatches from the Middle East, part 3: - Israeli women are very visible and look feisty. We've seen several young women soldiers in khakis with a long black braid AND a semi-automatic rifle hanging down their backs. - Just had the best lunch--flatbread right off the stove, thin and chewy and crunchy on the outside, slathered with goat cheese and olive oil and spices. - Tip: never order the chicken schnitzel. It's like a giant chicken nugget from McDonald's shoved into a pita pocket. Trust me on this. - Yesterday at the ruined city of Sephoris, where Jesus probably worked as a carpenter, I made like an *** I looked at the stone walls and asked our guide, "Where did the stone come from?" Zionist Apocalypse Coming? Veteran's Today by Kevin Barrett Will a Zionist apocalypse erupt during the coming two years? Some Zionists seem to think so. They are predicting that an unusual series of lunar eclipses or “blood moons” expected in 2014 and 2015 augurs war and disaster on an epic scale. One Zionist website warns: “It cannot be regarded as coincidence that all four blood moons of 2014/15 occur on religious festivals of Israel, together with two eclipses of the sun also on important days in 2015…According to NASA – Four ‘blood-red’ TOTAL lunar eclipses WILL fall again on Passover and Sukkoth in 2014 and 2015… the same back-to-back occurrences at the time of 1492, 1948 and 1967” (sic). Meaning? “The events may involve war in the Middle East and a financial crisis around the world that will affect the land of Israel or the Jewish elite in New York City.” These blood-moonbat Zionists think that 2014 or 2015 will go down in history alongside 1492 (the year that Jews, along with ...
ISRAEL is in the MIDDLE EAST... Prayer4Israel as we Pray For Israel The Israeli army recently reported gunfire from Syria aimed at Israel Defense Force soldiers in the central Golan Heights. Israel retaliated. Earlier that day, a mortar shell landed near Israel’s security fence. No injuries were reported. Pray for an end to the ongoing Syrian civil war. Pray that the war in Syria does not spill over into Israel and neighboring countries. Pray for Israeli Believers to share their faith throughout their communities. Pray for a large harvest of souls in Israel (The Bible, Luke 24:47).
Latest update: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 11:15:10 PM IST ...despite failures, John Kerry presses for peace in the Middle East relentlessly, as tensions rise against Israel from several fronts including strong words from Al-Qaida with all sides standing firm on their positions. Ayman al-Zawahri, considers the Syria-Israel border in the Golan Heights a staging ground for Jihadist activity against Israeli targets – activity that is expected to increase if Al-Qaida and groups affiliated with it manage to win their struggle against Syrian President Bashar Assad. Meanwhile, both Israel and the Palestinian Authority have made it absolutely clear than neither side will budge on the position of a shared state (in particular over hot spots like the Temple Mount). Events since July 2013 have been making it clear that despite talks of peace, it is more realistic that the likelihood of peace is futile and a regional war is imminent. Read more at
Excellent piece, Sarai Eilat... Barrack Hussein Obama has taken it upon himself to totally disregard all of America's past policies in his efforts to "Transform" America. To him the views of the American public and Congress are irrelevant, choosing instead to supplant all accumulated American wisdom and effort in the pursuit of his own views. Obama's past statements and efforts would seem to indicate that he is determined to lead this nation, and the world, into a catastrophe that generations of leaders have sought to avoid. Every nation must have water, and if Israel complies with Obama's demands, their water supply, which is in the West Bank, will simply be turned off by Hamas. Since its inception Israel has been under constant fear of attack. Consequently they built the finest military in the Middle East as a response to the daily terror they endure. Any military campaign is benefited by holding the high ground. In this case the high ground is the Golan Heights, which Obama wants Israel to cede to the ...
Egypt war with israel Exactly 40 years ago, on October 6 1973, Egyptian troops crossed the Suez Canal with the intention of pushing the Israelis out of the Sinai Peninsula. They took Israel by surprise, timing the attack to take place on Yom Kippur, the most sacred religious festival in the Jewish calender. Simultaneously, Syria attacked the Golan Heights. Backed by the air force, led by Hosni Mubarak, who became president in 1981, Egypt made spectacular initial advances into the territory, but both it and the Syrians were furiously repulsed when the Israeli army came into action. In his book, ‘The Yom Kippur War: The Epic Encounter that Transformed the Middle East,’ Abraham Rabinovich says that ultimately both sides won. “Who won the war? Egypt won the war, Israel won the war. Both sides to an equal measure,” he said. “Egypt regained its territory, and more importantly, its pride – its pride and the Arab pride, by the early successes. Israel won the biggest political achievement it could have ...
Israel is bolstering its forces on the once-quiet frontier with Syria where it believes Lebanese Hezbollah militants are preparing for the day when they could fight Israel. Syria's civil war has brought an end to decades of calm on the Golan Heights, a strip of land which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. Battles between rebels fighting against President Bashar al-Assad's forces in Syrian villages nearby are being watched intensely by Israel's military. Hezbollah, which is also backed by Iran, has sent thousands of its own fighters to combat Syrian rebels, according to Israeli and Western estimates. Israel last fought Hezbollah in a 2006 Lebanon war and still closely monitors the Lebanese border. Israel says Hezbollah has tens of thousands of rockets in its south Lebanon stronghold. The Jewish State is worried Hezbollah is making initial preparations for future confrontation with it on a new front with Syria and is accruing valuable combat experience on the Syrian battlefield. An Israeli source ...
Golan Heights profile BBC News The Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, has a political and strategic significance which belies its size. Israel seized the Golan Heights from Syria in the closing stages of the 1967 Six-Day War. Most of the Syrian Arab inhabitants fled the area during the conflict. An armistice line was established and the region came under Israeli military control. Almost immediately Israel began to settle the Golan. Syria tried to retake the Golan Heights during the 1973 Middle East war. Despite inflicting heavy losses on Israeli forces, the surprise assault was thwarted. Both countries signed an armistice in 1974 and a UN observer force has been in place on the ceasefire line since 1974. Israel unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981. The move was not recognised internationally. There are more than 30 Jewish settlements on the heights, with an estimated 20,000 settlers. There are some 20,000 Syrians in the area, most of them members of the Druze sect. Strategic ...

"The commitment of the Syrian community to resist the Israeli enemy can help fortify the internal struggle facing Syria," Assad told the officials. According to the source, Assad has called on all Syrian factions to join with Palestinian forces in resisting Israel along the Golan Heights. Sykes-Picot and Israel - breakdown of the old Sykes-Picot political order is testing Israel's border with Syria along the Golan Heights. The political order artificially constructed in the Middle East by the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement is disintegrating. As the Syrian civil war rages, the borders drawn nearly a century ago are becoming blurred. Syria is gradually splintering into three different entities: one region along the coast is loyal to the Alawite regime of President Bashar Assad; another yet-to- be-determined swath of territory might fall under the control of Sunni opposition forces; and a Kurdish enclave with ties to northern Iran and Kurdish groups in Turkey is also emerging. Perhaps this is the inevitable demise of a state populated by a Sunni majority that is ruled by an Alawite minority. Meanwhile, Iraq's territorial integrity is also in danger of being compromised. Iraqi Kurdistan will soon have its own oil pipeline up and running. This is seen as an important step toward an independent Kurd ...
THE COUNTRY SYRIA-BILAD ASH SHAAM Syria is an Arab country with more than 22 million people; it borders many of the major players in the Middle East (Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey) and is roughly the size of North Dakota. Syria famously lost the Golan Heights to Israel in 1967, during the Arab-Israeli war; negotiations between the two countries have been minimal in recent years. Like many countries in the region, Syria's main export is oil. Unlike Saudi Arabia or Iran, however, Syria's oil reserves are relatively small; it ranks 33rd in the world. Syria is home to a smorgasbord of ethnicities and religions: Arabs, Kurds, Christians, Sunnis, Alawites, and Druze. The capital, Damascus, is a bustling metropolis (many believe it to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world) but is not the site of the country's most significant protests. That city, Hama, is the country's fourth-largest, with fewer than one million occupants. Who's in charge?: Bashar al-Assad has ruled Syria since 2000. His ...

In 2008, before being elected, Obama was in the office of Ehud Olmert demanding that Israel give away the Golan Heights. What right has he to tell leaders of nations what to do? He told Mubarak to get out. He has personally destabilized the Middle East with swift precision from January 2011. A man who has the power to tell sovereign leaders of nations what to do, and they do it, is a world ruler. I have said it over and over: Watch who forces the division of the Land of Israel--Joel 3:2b; Daniel 11:39b. As historians know, Rome never died. Its power and its Caesars just hid in the Roman Catholic Church. Emperor worship became the worship of the Pope. Soon the façade of the religion of the Roman Catholic Church will fall, and the wounded head of the seven headed Beast will be evident, as the final pope makes his appearance and joins with Nimrod reincarnated! So, this year, it will be clear to the wise who the world ruler/Beast is, as well as the false prophet. All is surfacing! The light of understanding ...
Thursday, Feb 7 Greetings, Brothers and Sisters! This morning, we woke up to a beautiful, cool misty morning beside the Sea of Galilee. After another delicious, abundant breakfast, the Greensboro Interfaith Clergy received an excellent lecture from Avi Melamed, founder of Feejan-Israel Speaks Arabic. As a former advisor to government officials, Avi has special training and experience in the Middle East conflicts. When most people think "Middle East" and "Israel," they automatically think about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, we learned today that Israel has many more concerns and some situations even more dire such as Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Jordan, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. The most relevant to us, since we are 20 minutes from the Syrian border, was the civil war in Syria. He closed by saying, "It is completely possible that tomorrow (he meant, Friday) that Syrians could come over the Golan Heights looking for refuge. What do we do with thousands of r ...

Members of armed groups detained two U.N. peacekeeping soldiers for an hour on Monday before releasing them again unharmed, the Austrian Defence Ministry said on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 8 km (5 miles) north of the border with Jordan when gumen stopped a patrol with two officers - one from Austria and one from New Zealand - assigned to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), it said. The UNTSO, based in Jerusalem, was formed in 1948 to monitor ceasefires in the Middle East. It has 153 military observers from 25 countries. A separate U.N. force based on the Golan Heights monitors a ceasefire between Syria and Israel. Two Austrian peacekeepers from that unit were shot last month in an area of Damascus where government troops and rebels had fought.

A connect the dots for those who think North Carolina has no connection to the Middle East's current events. Israel was drawn into the Syrian Civil war last night when indirect fire from Syria (remember we already have 150 SF troops on the ground) landed into the Golan Heights. Israel retaliated and issued a warning. In January 2013, the NCNG is deploying to Egypt as part of the observer mission. I leave it to you all to connect the dots. I hope America has the stomach for it, because I know our Army will. Remember us on this Veteran's day.

From seeing the *** parade in the most liberal city of the Middle East, to walking through the tunnels of the western wall in Jerusalem. From riding ATVs in the Golan Heights and Rappelling in to a cave in the Galilee, to climbing Masada and flouting in the Dead Sea. Along the way we were hosted by the amazing Jewish community of our Partnership 2gether region, met fascinating speakers, visited the border with Gaza; walked through the tunnels of the city of David and so much more. We walked through thousands of years of strong Jewish connection to our homeland Israel, learned of the struggles of our people to survive and to maintain our tie to this holy land, commemorate the millions who were murdered and faced the complexities and challenges of maintaining a democratic Jewish State in the land of our ancestors. This was a life changing week!

Israel conquers parts of the Sinai, West Bank and Golan Heights.
In 1967, The Six-Day War erupted and lasted from June 5 to June 11. Israel fought neighboring nations Egypt, UAR, Jordan, and Syria in this historic war that has framed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. At the war’s end, Israel had seized the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Golan Heights from Syria. The status of these territories and the resulting refugee crisis continue to be central concerns in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, raising issues of fairness, entitlement, theology, and international law. Here'a a powerful video to share with some friends as we remember this historic day. It captures my visit with the Nassar family and their "Tent of Nations".
