Nom de Plume beckons you to join in the final composition of the book, "Blank Epitaph, The Joyful Triumph of the Warholian Lineage." The book is the result of thirty years of both academic and actual research in to the totality of the guidance's of Andy Warhol words, art and actions and their present results and imminent effect on humanity's posterior. The book explores his mentorship of the creation of a new era of thought including his directive to future generations on the evolution of art and culture at large, with an emphasis on the directives toward his direct protégés, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring and his indirect disciples, the entire seeking world. "Blank Epitaph", is written openly and anonymously reflecting Andy Warhol's words that break down the trappings of our human ego, "We are all Interesting" and of course the selfless quote, "In the future we will all be famous for Fifteen Minutes" or as Fran Lebowitz has said on the culture of Andy Warhol, "It was a joke that got into the wat ...

Interesting fact- The 27 Club – variously known as Club 27, the Curse of 27 and the Forever 27 Club – comprises an eclectic and exclusive collection of influential musicians, all of whom died at the age of 27. Some of the most notable previous additions include- Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Robert Johnson, Kurt Cobain, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Chris Bell, D. Boon, Dave Alexander, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Pete Ham, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Pete de Freitas, Jeremy Michael, Ward Kristen, Pfaff Mia Zappata Malcolm Hale, Bryan Ottoson, Richey Edwards, Gary Thain, Jesse Belvin, Roger Durham, Helmut Kollen, Sean McCabe, Les Harvey and latterly Amy Winehouse. It should be noted, too, that most of these deaths occurred under mysterious circumstances and, to this day, speculation and controversy rage about many of them. As recently as August 2009, Sussex police launched a review of the Brian Jones case, 40 years after he was found dead in his swimming pool, when new allegations were levelled at a buil ...

From the streets of New York to the walls of its most prominent galleries, young graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was catapulted to international fame in his early 20s and was gone by age 27. The subject of a feature film by fellow artist Julian Schnabel, Basquiat is one of the most admired artists to emerge from the 1980s art boom.
Jean-Michel Basquiat, born in Brooklyn, New York, was the second of four children of Matilda Andrades (July 28, 1934 – November 17, 2008)[4] and Gerard Basquiat (born 1930).[5] He had two younger sisters: Lisane, born in 1964, and Jeanine, born in 1967.[4] His father, Gerard Basquiat, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and his mother, Matilde Basquiat, of Afro-Puerto Rican descent, was born in Brooklyn, New York. Matilde instilled a love for art in her young son by taking him to art museums in Manhattan and enrolling him as a junior member of the Brooklyn Museum of Art.[5][6] Basquiat was a precocious child who learned how to read and write by age four and was a gifted artist. His teachers noticed his artistic abilities, and his mother encouraged her son's artistic talent. By the age of 11, Basquiat could fluently speak, read and write French, Spanish, and English. In September 1968, when Basquiat was about 8, he was hit by a car while playing in the street. His arm was broken and he suffered several in ...

Had a amazing time in Miami at Art Basel. Inspired to the MAX. Had several conversations with international gallery owners and people. First time in my life I ever see a original John Michel Basquiat, Keith Harring and Andy Warhol painting. Lord..
created by Jean-Michel Basquiat, this is a personal favorite of mine, however arguments of the lack of skill have arose from such forms of art. in my opinion this is a very impressive talent, in the since that it is complete personal expression. I see drawing, painting, ect. the way I see music, although all forms are incredibly beautiful you can cover a song repeat the lyrics and match the pitch, but to form a song from scratch, word for word or note by note that's impeccable to me. I see paintings such as this like scatting in a jazz song, exciting and seemingly untamed yet a large amount of discipline is incorporated. just my opinion. (the second image is a tribute to the artist)
New Museum receives grant from the Keith Haring Foundation + The Keith Haring Foundation makes 500,000 USD grant to New Museum New Museum, New York Lisa Phillips, Toby Devan Lewis Director of the New Museum, has announced that the Keith Haring Foundation has made a generous gift of 500,000 USD to support and name the Museum's School, Teen, and Family programs. The Foundation previously made a 1 million USD gift in 2008 to establish the School and Youth Programs Fund and to name the Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Engagement—a post currently held by Johanna Burton. Keith Haring's work, created from an iconic language of signature lines and symbols, blurs the boundaries between art, popular culture, and the urban environment, and mirrors the New Museum's own ideals of fearlessness, activism through art, and accessibility to broad audiences. This second major gift continues this legacy and celebrates the artist's devotion to public service through art. Thanks to the continued part ...

In this interview, Enwezor discusses his career and the significance of his latest curatorial project. Chika Okeke-Agulu: At the opening of Documenta11 in 2002, I remember saying to you that the next big challenge would be Venice. I said it as a kind of joke, but not because I did not think you could do it. Rather I was aware that only one other person--the legendary Harald Szeeman--had curated both Documenta and Venice. In any case, since Documenta you have organized Gwangju and Seville Biennales, as well as La Triennale, Paris, and now, Venice. I cannot imagine what it feels to join Szeeman in this curatorial pantheon? Okwui Enwezor: Thanks Chika. That's extremely kind of you to make a comparison with me and Szeeman. I know this q ...
Though creativity cannot be taught, it can certainly be nurtured. Though you may suddenly get inspired into a burst of creativity, creativity doesn't have to hit you like a bolt of lightning — it can also be sustained and even enhanced if you have the right outlook, set up a favorable routine, and don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you want to know how to be creative, just follow these steps.   Method 1 of 3: Adjusting Your Mindset     1. Take feedback with a grain of salt. Keep following your own path. The problem with asking for feedback is that a person's feedback will always be biased because he or she will have a different idea of what your work should be. Other people will try to push you in a direction that might be right for them, but not for you. Though they may have good intentions, this will only stifle you. You should be comfortable asking for feedback, but don't let anyone's opinion keep you doing from what you're doing. As you get more comfortable asking for feedback, you'll ...

Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist that first gained recognition for his SAMO graffiti that he did all over New York. BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) -- Even though Jeffrey Wright has won a Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe, and appeared in more than 35 films as one of the most versatile actors of his generation, he's far from a household name. But he could care less. Portraying painter Jean-Michel Basquiat in Julian Schnabel's 1996 biopic set the stage for other distinct performances for the 47-year-old Wright, like playing Colin Powell in "W," Muddy Waters in "Cadillac Records" and operative Felix Leiter in "Casino Royale." And his varied dramatic skills prompted the makers of HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" to cast the Washington, D.C. native in the role of sinister Dr. Valentin Narcisse this season. With his latest film, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," setting box office records worldwide, Wright examined his career choices in a recent interview with The Associated Press. - AP: How was it joining the established "Hunger Games" cast? Wright: It's easier for me because I didn't have to take the risk on the first one. I didn't have to ...

As readily as he paints a classic still life, he transforms found objects into social satire: with an eye for simple, efficient line, he can turn a plastic printer cover into an elegant nude, a scrap of metal into a primitive bird. His vibrant works express varied themes, from biting social commentary and to whimsical mythologies. Ironically, Bokov’s work is now in the permanent collection of the State Art Museum of Vladivostok. He has appeared alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring at the Now Gallery and in ...

Me and Manhattan My first working on my Art day. I woke up, went to pick up my canvas at the shop on 23nd Street between 7th and 8th ave and drove by car to Brooklyn with a very nice driver. I was there at 12.30pm and started to work. I almost finished two pieces so I think I will be okay. What is funny to work at a studio like this, it’s an open space studio where you work with other artist in one space. Everybody is doing his own thing. Nothing is Perfect, better or nicer. That is the beauty of Art. You can do whatever you want. Look at Herman Brood and Jean Michel Basquiat, even Karel Appel (who are all great examples for me) they all started with a white background. So you can draw or paint whatever you want! The thing is, Just do it! One of the things I learned, next to having lunches, drinking wine, going out and meeting people, is how people are looking at you. Some people think I came in New York with a backpack. It’s hard work here to get things done. People don’t have time so you have to b ...

WATCH: Jean-Michel Basquiat was one of the most influential artists out of See the The Radiant Child here:
Jean-Michel Basquiat; this man's paintings talk. They speak out loud, and tell stories of political essence and the black struggle. I kind of like him - posthumously! ...his influence on pop culture is immense. I simply LOVE hip-hop music, NOT the beats, I mean the punch lines, and the struggle. ... Basquiat's art focused on "suggestive dichotomies," such as wealth versus poverty, integration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experience. Basquiat appropriated, poetry, drawing and painting, and married text and image, abstraction and figuration, and historical information mixed with contemporary critique. Basquiat used social commentary in his paintings as a "springboard to deeper truths about the individual", as well as attacks on power structures and systems of racism, while his poetics were acutely political and direct in their criticism of colonialism and support for class struggle.
I want a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting for my room.

WHY THE RISE OF CHRISTOPHER WOOL? The market for the Chicago-born, 58-year-old artist Christopher Wool has moved with such force over the past five years that some in the trade suggest that commercial, rather than critical, appreciation is driving the demand. “Wool’s works can now be flipped at auction for at least $2m. There’s a huge amount of speculation,” says one dealer, who asked to remain anonymous. “A primary-market Wool is probably priced at around $650,000, and could sell on the secondary auction or private market for at least twice that much,” says the Boston-based collector Bridgitt Evans, who owns three pieces by the artist, including a black, white and blue enamel painting on aluminium (Untitled (P232), 1995). The feverish activity, fuelled in part by dealers (including Larry Gagosian) who have moved vigorously into the artist’s market, indicates that Wool’s art “has become a parking lot for money”, says one high-profile European curator. Like the market for Jean-Michel Ba ...

From Jesse La Tour. The current exhibit at the Fullerton Museum Center is totally worth checking out. It's called "Jean-Michel Basquiat: An Intimate Portrait" and contains primarily photographs of the famous New York street artist Basquiat by his friend Nicholas Taylor. It's hard to overstate the influence and importance of the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. He was a street artist who ended up, at a very young age, becoming world famous and having shows with people like Andy Warhol. Contemporary artists like Shepard Fairey, Banksy, Barry McGee, and countless others are directly influenced by the ideas and general badass-ness of Basquiat. I visited the exhibit recently and took some photos. The show is only up for one more week, so be sure to check it out!

Jean-Michel Basquiat by Gordon Parks. Two of my favorite artists!
when figurative painting returned with a vengeance, in particular via the works of Neo-Expressionist artists like Julian Schnabel and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Since, figurative painting has continued its resurgence, and its current forms feature a wide range of experimental forms, compositions and subjects. Examples include the art-historically informed portraits of Currin and Kehinde Wiley, the blurred memories of Gerhard Richter and Luc Tuymans, and the reduced figuration of Marcel Dzama, Dana Schutz, and Marlene Dumas.
Jean-Michel Basquiat, Vincent Gallo... had a band. it's called Gray and it's pure dope!
