In answer to a question during a 1977 interview, when asked about who Michael Jackson admired growing up, he said: “I had those that I admired, like James Brown, a man that today doesn’t get the credit he should get from the music industry. Look what he did to music: all these funky tracks that you hear today, that’s where it came from. Sly Stone, James Brown, these are people that started funky music. They stood between the gospelly soul and the dance music. And that’s funk: Sly, James Brown, and people like that. Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding. And of course in rock and roll there’s Little Richard and Chuck Berry and all those guys. That’s who I would always watch. And Jackie Wilson!”
Why is it that when I’m drunk, I feel like the love child of James Brown and Michael Jackson? Dancing fool. Focus on the fool part.
Ok my friends, share a Jackson Browne memory! I can't pick just one. Poor Ellen heard them all the whole trip to and from. Stories range from "rock Me on the Water" 1979 and Donald Heitz. To the numerous concerts at Garden State Arts Center, plastered up against the stage. No Nukes Concert at Madison Square Garden. Then the concert my (5 yr old) daughter Jasmine was bit by a dog and got 30 stitches in her face. I didn't want to leave the show and she was in the hospital telling the nurses I went to a James Brown concert, no my mom is at Michael Jackson's house, lol. There was the Mother's Day Jaz, Michael and I went to see Curtis Peoples and Jason Slim Gambil (guitar artist from Lady Antibellum) perform and she contacted them the night before to have them play a Jackson song as a Mothers Day gift to me. Then last year when my Kindergarten student named Jackson wrote Jackson Brown on his paper. Poor kid started thinking that was his name cause that's what I always called him. And then we have Jasmine's res ...

From one legend to another...to Michael Jackson + James Brown's historic '03 performance
Who is Prince? Musically, he's part-Jimi Hendrix, part-James Brown, part-George Clinton, part-Michael Jackson, part-Stevie Wonder, but that doesn't really get to the bottom of his art. As for the individual who makes this art, we've still no idea. Prince is sexy because... well, okay, because he can move like no other man, he's preposterously good looking and talented and clever and doesn't seem to have aged and he puts on a good show and writes incredible music... but it's also because we know hardly anything about him. We can project onto him whatever we like. He's never allowed his audience to grow familiar (thus contemptuous) with who he really is. Even Prince's biographers admit that he remains an enigma. He's so mysterious that it's breathtakingly shocking just to see a sketch of the inside of his fridge and learn of his mustard. He'll be sexy forever because none of us will ever see his fusty old knickers slung across the top of the radiator (metaphorically speaking, and to borrow something Nick ** ...
I liked a video Michael Jackson,James Brown,and Prince on stage (1983 )

Via Mikey: Hmmm Bruno Mars... what happens when you put Michael Jackson, Prince and James Brown in a blender. He ends up looking looking like Wanda Sykes! Janet Jackson should of "popped out" and sang "That's the way love goes" as a duet! A fan can dream can't I!!!
Bruno Mars, its like they breed Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, and James Brown into one person.
As it becomes easier to spread information by way of the internet, I looked back in the nooks of my memory to the first time I heard a celebrity die that caught like wild fire. It was James Brown and everyone on MySpace decided to race to the finish line to break the news. Now with pay per click advertisements, companies like US Weekly and CNN decide that the best way to recap the years past include pages of lists of notable celebrities that have passed while making you sludge through click after click of slideshows to be inundated with ads for toothpaste and face creams. Now in our current years, the quick succession of eulogy after eulogy from Patrick Swayze and Michael Jackson to Roger Ebert and Tom Clancy has left a consistent pattern of a reminder that these folks are somehow more important to remember. That isn't to say that their presence isn't notable due to their contribution to the arts and culture that make up our "today". But what about making notes towards the others? The Jonas Salks, the Fra ...

{events of my time} MILITARY BARBARISM IN EGYPT: THE ROLE OF UNITED NATION For over two decades ago, when we were in Secondary School, we used to listen to various music interludes particularly those that were imported from the Whiteman’s land (EURO-AMERICAN WORLD) e.g. James Brown, Steve Wonder, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Eddy Murphy and Mc. Hammer etc, but in my own peculiar way, I only listened with probing mind to the stylistic contents of their music/songs which are in most cases unfavorable to Africa’s culture and heritage, therefore I went for contrary views available within the ragae and afro beats of the legends like Bob Marley, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Peter Tosh, U-Roy, Raskimono, Majek Fashek and others. Considering the views of these progressive music icons, you will realize that issues of inequity, discrimination, oppression, selfishness, deception from the so-called Colonial Masters which had automatically metamorphosed into economic and socio-political MANOVERY of the African People, ...

Saw Canadas next new superstar today. His name is Jordan John. He looks and sounds like a combination of Prince and Michael Jackson. He has a 5 album deal (worldwide) with Verve Records. His dad is Prakash John from Mandela, Bush, James Brown, Funkadelic and Alice Cooper. The drummer was with Alanna Myles, Ann Murray and others. The songs are bluesy, R&B based and believe me, go see this kid this summer otherwise you will be paying over $100 to see him at the ACC within 2 years.

Yes yes I've seen the video in which Beyonce is depicted as some devil worshipping satanic *** who's out to steal kill and destroy!! Lol...yes...for all you historians..."they" (primarily you chitterling circuit theologians) said the SAME thing about Prince and Michael Jackson in the 80's...same about James Brown and Parliament Funk in the 70's...Little Richard in the 60's etc etc...My point is this...your "greatest" detractors or "the enemy" has ALWAYS been legendary trailblazing African American ENTERTAINERS!! ...SMH!! I was reflecting on a music conversation I was in where the statment was said "you guys don't like it because you're over 30". Besides the fact that this came from someone that was younger than I & raised on V-103,I was forced to give it some thought. I think I'm a fairly reasonable guy. If I hear music that I don't care for of a certain genre I can still admit if it's good. But on the same token If it's bad it's just bad. I've earned the right to give an honest opinion on various styles of music having played most of it. From Outkast to Natalie Cole I've come to the conclusion that I'll never like EVERY style of music but ones age is not a factor in weather music is good or bad. The person that made the statement wasn't by any means trying to be mean she was just defending her musical preference. With that said i just thank HEAVEN that we defended Michael Jackson,Prince,Madonna,Cindy Lauper,Duran Duran,James Brown,Earth Wind & Fire,Bad Brains,LaBelle,The Police,Elton John and Three5Human. Otherwise they ...

After watching the NAACP Awards, especially the "in memory of" portion, it really made sad to think of all the great talents and gifts gone much too soon over the 10-20 years. I pray their souls are resting in peace and that they knew the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. - Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Gerald Levert, Dean Levert, Rick James, Teena Marie, Donna Summer, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Vesta Williams, Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Sugarfoot, Nick Ashford, Isley Brothers member, Etta James, James Brown, Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Flo Jo, Curtis Mayfield, Walter Payton, Michael Clarke Duncan and so many others... Please feel free to add to the list.

I just would like to take the time to ask God why? Why did u take so many significant black people out of our lives so early? " Whitney Houston, Bernie Mack, Michael Jackson, Gary Coleman, James Brown, Don Cornelius, 2-Pac and the list goes on, but u leave us on earth with Gucci Mane, Trinidad James, Waka Flacka, the entire cast of Love and Hip-Hop, Robert L Johnson (Founder of BET), Nikki Minaj, Ce-Lo, The producers of (Best Funeral Ever) and all other embarrassments to the black community! WHY LORD, WHY??
Never watched "Dallas" since the newest season started..but since Larry Hagman died I was curious how the writers were going to send him off ? I remember saying there will never be another James Brown ,Michael Jackson,Elvis,Bruce Lee,Aaliyah,Marylin Monroe,Tupac,Biggie ect,ect...yet in history they have made movies or T.V. programs of people who look or acted like people from the past [Three Stooges,Little Rascals movies ect]..who knows..for the next generation I assume there will be artists who will become the next Prince, Earth,Wind and Fire,Clarke Gable,Richard Pryor,Superman,Batman, even Mike Tyson,Dr J,Jordan,Ruth or Muhammad Ali ??... . it goes over and over in circles until the next Phenom comes along ...one day someone will re-invent a Dallas series in the future and make money from the success of an old name. I admit I hate remakes and some things shouldn't be remade or touched [The Ten commandments,or Ben Hur with Charlton Heston] but I've seen so many Planet of the ape ,King Kong remakes...like ...
Hip-hop is built of samples. Hooks have fueled 30 years of rap anthems. Public Enemy, Snoop Dogg and Kanye West have pulled from the works of James Brown, George Clinton and Michael Jackson, respectively.
I want to be the next Jim Morrison,John Lennon,Elvis Presley,Michael Jackson,Marvin Gaye,James Brown,Curtis Mayfield
James Brown and Jackie Wilson were influences to Michael Jackson that paved the way. Jackie sings "Lonely Teardrops"
Music from the 70's and 80's often sounds just as good now as it did back then. From the Beetles, to Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, James Brown, Prince, Elton John, Rod Stewart to Run DMC... I can't imagine us listening to some of today's artist 30years from now... Imagine in the year 2030, sitting in a coffee shop and hearing Nicki Minaj's song 'Stupid *** :-) Which artist/music do you think we will still be listening to in 30years?
Rev Al Sharpton's eulogy for James Brown formed the template for his speech at Michael Jackson's homegoing ceremony. Particularly the end.
James Brown picked the wrong day to die. Him dying on Christmas is like Farah Fawcett dying the same day as Michael Jackson.
Check out James Brown and Jackie Wilson, and you know where Michael Jackson got his moves.

A year ago today my brother Robert Champion left this world. Seems like just yesterday we were dreading going to Drum Major camps and laughing in wind ensemble. Brother I love and miss you man and I know that you are sitting next to Doc and writing drills with live performances with Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Whitney Houston. RIP Brother Champion, gone but never forgotten!
*** entertain anyone. Now that Michael Jackson's dead and James Brown is gone, he's the best in the world."- Charlie Watts
Idea for a film no. 21- remake of Toy Story 2 starring James Brown, a young Michael Jackson and Dame Judy Dench

See, if Romney knew how to sing Al Green, he might've had a chance!!! Obama blew out the competition TWICE!!! He blew out McCain, and now, he's blown out Romney!!! All Obama had to do was play James Brown's "Superbad" at the victory party last night!!! He played Stevie Wonder, King Floyd, he came on with Superbad, and then Michael Jackson's "Bad"!!! Well, his real trouble is going to begin now. But, he should be able to handle, it better, because this it it. He'll never be elected President again, so; He he should go out like BT Express: Give it whatcha got, whatcha got, whatcha got, and DON'TCHA EVER STOP!
I can't wait to hear Bernice Jenkins call heaven to talk to her friend Cora that died @ Walgreens so we can hear what Dr. King, James Brown & Michael Jackson have to say about the election. Lol
I am so excited to be seeing the jazz supergroup Fourplay tonight. We used to geek out at Berklee watching VHS tapes of Fourplay. These cats don't know how to play music that isn't tasty. Nathan East, bass guitar, has played with B.B. King, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Quincy Jones. Bob James, keyboards, is a grammy award winning jazz great whose music has been sampled by Run D.M.C. and Ghostface Killah. Oh, and he *wrote* Nautilus. Chuck Loeb, guitar, played with Stan Getz and Michael Brecker. Harvey Mason has played with James Brown, Mary J, Herbie Hancock and Frank Sinatra.
James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Michael Jackson, Bootsy Collins, and others I forget, don't get a pass in this

The Moonwalk pre-dates Michael Jackson by at least 50 years, having been performed by James Brown, David Bowie, *** Van *** and Cab Calloway.
Something To Think About: I wonder what a person, who has been cryogenically frozen or in a coma from 1999 until now, and gets unfrozen or wake up, say about the new millennium and everything that has happened in the past 13 years: Osama Bin Laden was shot in the head; Saddam Hussein was hung; America has its first black president; Michael Jackson was accused of touching young boys, but also unfortunately passed; Aaliyah, Nate Dogg, Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes, Donna Summers, Teena Marie, Michael Clarke Duncan, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Neil Armstrong, Sherman Hemsley, Gary Coleman, Steve Jobs, Teddy Pendergrass, Eartha Kitt, Ike Turner, Lou Rawls, Coretta Scott King, Steve Irwin, John Ritter, James Brown, Richard Pryor, Rosa Parks, Rick James, Ray Charles, Christopher Reeve, Barry White, etc. all R.I.P =( ; twin towers fell and 2000+ people were killed and taken away from families "/; R.Kelly accused of peeing on some girl; we can talk to each other through the computer; we can pay for things with ou ...

Breathe Carolina is going to be covering Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"... Can't wait to waste 4 minutes of my life to listen to them butcher it. Why does everyone think they can come close to that much talent? Kings never die. Look at Elvis, James Brown, and Kurt Cobain.., why does everyone seem to think they can talently amount to them?
God bless you Luther, up there in Rock N' Roll Heaven with Elvis, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Barry White, and many more. I saw Luther Vandross in person at the Compac Center in Houston with Vanessa Williams. Unbelievable Show !!!

Yea I'm 23 and I'd much rather listen to Michael Jackson , James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Diana Ross (the list could go on) over any and EVERYTHING that's "hot right now" on the radio. I don't think it means I'm out of touch. I think it means I have good taste. And I can't help but feel that nowadays anyone who can hold a mic is "famous" and can have a hit song. These legends have set the bar so high that I don't even think these "two year wonders" are even attempting to reach these quality standards of what REAL music and GOOD music are. Basically I'm saying my generation *** my opinion.

I say farewell to so many who have passed on who gave us something to remember rather it was the words of Otis Redding or the courage of Rosa Parks it left our hearts with something to never forget and the strength to keep it moving. Marvin Gaye set the mood to keep it grooving. Teddy Pendegrass made the ladies weak at the knees. James Brown made the microphone sneeze. Michael Jackson was like magic and it gets no better than Alaliyah singing her heart on stage with a 4-page letter. Whitney your music will live in us forever. Vesta you will always be missed. Sherman Hemsley you brought laughter for so many years on all of our television sets. We say farewell but truly we will not forget. Don Cornelius kept the Soul Train always on track that was like a a morning, afternoon and midnight snack.Teena Marie you brought the sunshine in our would You had everyone shouting Lover Girl! Which singer did Otis Redding , James Brown and Michael Jackson all say had a big influence on them ? He's still alive and I do not believe that he gets the credit due him .
It was NOT Diana Ross who discovered The Jackson 5. Gladys Knight brought them to Motown's attention, Then Bobby Taylor caught on to the boys great appeal and finally got Motown to sign them in late' 68. Bobby Taylor was the first to mentor Michael Jackson because of Michael's true soul style in his voice and he saw the entire group's raw talent way before Berry took over. Berry Gordy did not even want to even deal with them at first when Gladys and later Bobby even recommended he give them a look because of his being wore out by taking care of Motown's first child star by now then a teenager close to adulthood Stevie Wonder. However once he saw the footage that Bobby Taylor shot of the group gettin down and Micheal doin' the James Brown ''I got the feelin'' He woke up and signed them as part of The Motown family. He literally drafted Diana as his PR tactic as the reason for J5'S boost. of course why not, She was a Superstar diva and it came in a time when she was about to go solo leaving The Supremes.
- I don't know this is? Michael Jackson, Lil'Richard, James Brown, or a Frank Sinatra impersonator.

We’re all told that stealing is bad. That’s a lie. Sometimes stealing can be good. Hey! don't crucify me yet until you finish the test. Here are some of the greatest thieves of all time… Steve Jobs admits in his biography that Apple has always been shameless about stealing great ideas. He says that they swiped the concepts that Braun Products used to design speakers and radios in the 1950’s and 1960’s and applied them to Apple products — creating Apple’s monitors and the iPod. Michael Jackson robbed from James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Beatles and Little Richard to create his own unique singing and dancing style starting at age 8. He later became the “King of Pop.” He even stole his signature dance move, “the moonwalk.” from Soul Train dancers Geron “Caszper” Canidate and Cooley Jackson and practiced it two years before he ever performed it onstage. Kobe Bryant watched tapes and swiped basketball moves from Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon and Dr. J to become on ...

I know many people on FB do not believe in conspiracy theories about the "Illuminati" or the "Enlighten Ones" Or anything that has to do with N.W.O or Freemasonry. Whether you believe it or not the media controls everything that is happening in the world from images on how we perceive a certain individual or a specific place or thing. The Illuminati (look it up if you don't know who they are) have been killing off people in the music industry in which refuse to write down satanic messages in their lyrics. Just one example Michael Jackson. Listen to the song "They don't care about us." And numerous interviews which he states a higher up in which he cannot name or talk about is who is harming this individual. Still not convinced? Well maybe this will convince you. JOURNEY INTO HEAVEN Time moves on, as we blow a kiss goodbye on 2011; I drift off into the clouds, to revisit some of the lost stars, who now watch over us all from heaven. Thousands of waiting souls litter the stairway to the skies, as I slowly make my way through that pearly gate; Nate Dogg is creating a new sound, as he teams up with Jimi Hendrix, remixing a classic “Regulate”. Michael Jackson is holding onto Christopher Reeve, desperately trying to get Superman to teach him how to fly; Next to them sits Marilyn Monroe, who is getting new beauty tips from Aaliyah and TLC’s, Lisa “left-eye”. Music is pumping from every direction, as The Notorious B.I.G takes to the mic, alongside his new best friend Tupac Shakur; They are presenting a dance off, as Heath Ledger and Bruce Lee are the first stars to take to the floor. Jimmy Saville sits shining on a step, trying to fix another dream to come true; I see my Nan and Granddad walk towards me, as they whisper “we are so very proud of you”. Amy Wi ...
Wow..was just thinking about all the great R&B singers we lost over the last ten years or so. Aaliyah, Barry White, Ray Charles, Rick James, James Brown, Gerald Levert, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Teddy Pendergrass, Etta James, Teena Marie..I know I'm missing a lot..but it's amazing how many truly great talents are gone!
okay so.I am feeling some kind of way about people giving shout outs to the celebraties that have passed this year and Everyone always start with Whitney Houston...now DO NOT get it twisted I felt real pain and I even cried for Whitney she was a TRUE DIVA and had an AWESOME voice she was a huge lost like Michael Jackson and no matter what she stayed true to herself and that is why I love Whitney Houston and that is not my problem...my problem is that no one ever mentions Don Cornelius like he did not exists...With out Don there would have been no James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Patti La Belle, Whitney, Maria, lil Wayne etc. Like Don paved the way for ALL music artists starting with the black ones...yall remember sitting and watching Soul Train on tv and the Soul Train awards hello...So this goes out to Don Cornelius "And you can bet your last money, it's all gonna be a stone gas, honey! I'm Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!"
