Well fancy that ! ! The Poll Tax Riots were a series of riots in British towns and cities during protests against the Community Charge (commonly known as the poll tax), introduced by the Conservative government led by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The largest protest occurred in central London on Saturday, 31 March 1990, shortly before the tax was due to come into force in England and Wales. The disorder in London arose from an 11 a.m. demonstration which became a violent confrontation between the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), protesters and other activist demonstrators, which ended in rampaging and looting until 3 a.m

Sherlock is a British television crime drama that presents a contemporary adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories. Created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. Nine episodes have been produced, the first three of which aired in 2010. Series two aired in 2012, and a third series aired in the first quarter of 2014. The third series has become the UK's most watched drama series since 2001.[1] Sherlock has been sold to over 200 territories. Sherlock depicts "consulting detective" Holmes, assisting the Metropolitan Police Service, primarily Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves), in solving various crimes. Holmes is assisted by his flatmate, Dr John Watson, who has returned from military service in Afghanistan. Although the series depicts a variety of crimes and perpetrators, Holmes' conflict with his archnemesis Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is a recurring feature. Molly Hooper (Lo ...

Police warn against misuse of the 999 system this festive season…… ‘The wrong food was delivered!’ reports a woman to the 999 emergency line - this is just one example the Metropolitan Police Service is highlighting to advise the public of misuse calls made during the festive period. Christmas and the New Year traditionally sees the 999 emergency line at its busiest, which is why the MPS is urging the public to use the system sensibly. In 2012 the Met received a total of 4,687,642, emergency and non-emergency calls, of which 25,749 were nuisance calls. While this year to date the Met has taken 3,205,260 calls (Jan to end of Nov) of which 18,333 were nuisance calls. To emphasise this concern, the Met is releasing four examples of calls made over the last year and festive season which did not require a police response and include calls, classified as 'nuisance', such as: A caller complaining about a faulty purchase made at a Christmas market; an enquiry about locations of New Year's Eve fireworks di ...

Some have asked me to put up a short summary of cases to keep you abreast of things; In Sept 2008, I had my home raided by the Metropolitan Police Service - the raid was unlawful (proven) and was on allegations that I had harassed a civilian secretary of the police and also a civilian member of the public. I was acquitted at trial in 2009 of ALL charges against me (i.e Not guilty after full trial). A subsequent IPCC (police watchdog) managed investigation exonerated all involved. I then commenced use of the constitutional right of Private Criminal prosecution. Private Criminal prosecutions: - Luton Crown Court - Prosecution of Met Police Commander's secretary for the offence of Perverting the Course of Justice. - Southwark Crown Court - the two officers that led the raid on my home are on trial for a number of offences including kidnap, false imprisonment, assault, affray and misconduct in public office - Summons served and prosecution commenced in relation to the second individual who made false allegati ...
Jimmy Savile sexual abuse scandal From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Savile in July 2006, attending the Highland games in Lochaber In September and October 2012, almost a year after his death, allegations that the English DJ and BBC television presenter Jimmy Savile (1926–2011) had sexually abused under-age adolescent and prepubescent girls and boys, and adults, became widely publicised. By 11 October 2012 allegations had been made to 13 British police forces,[1] and led to the setting-up of inquiries into practices at the BBC and within the National Health Service. On 19 October the Metropolitan Police Service launched a formal criminal investigation, Operation Yewtree, into historic allegations of child sexual abuse by Savile and other people, some of whom were still living, over four decades. It stated that it was pursuing over 400 separate lines of inquiry, based on the claims of 200 witnesses, via 14 police forces across the UK. It described the alleged abuse as being ...

A snapshot of Sir Paul Paul Leslie Condon . DOB 10 March 1947 - CAREER ... Read between the lines people, it makes interesting reading. Condon joined the police in 1967. He became Chief Constable of Kent in 1988 and Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in 1993 at the age of 45, (1988 - 1993 Five years fast track) the youngest person to do so, stepping down in 2000. His tenure as head of the Metropolitan Police Service was marked by the Stephen Lawrence case, which became a major controversy. The subsequent public Macpherson Report found the force to be "institutionally racist" and that the failure to arrest and successfully prosecute those believed guilty brought about many changes in the way the Metropolitan Police investigated murder within the capital. In 1995, Condon attracted controversy and media attention for stating that MOST MUGGERS ARE BLACK! Other challenges Condon faced was Irish republican terrorism, the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales and the millennium celebrations, police corrupt .. ...
In 1997, J.G. Ballard said this: “In a sense, we’re policing ourselves and that’s the ultimate police state.” Then, in 2013, after the Boston bombing, we became that: “Boston shows a new model manhunt emerging: one reliant on the FBI embracing crowd-submitted data and rapid feedback…The public enthusiasm for documenting their lives can outpace even the vast surveillance apparatus of the government.” In 1959, William S. Burroughs wrote this: “A functioning police state needs no police.” Today, after the Woolwich attack, we proved it: “A dedicated team of British police officers is monitoring social media around the clock in the wake of the fatal attack on a soldier in the south-east of London, in order to gauge sentiment and be ready to respond. Politicians and aid groups have slammed the Metropolitan Police Service for seizing the possessions of homeless people and leaving them without shelter and food. Please sign and share petition calling on Ilford chief inspector John Fish to resign with immediate effect
The horrific events in Woolwich have saddened us all. We recognise that this event will cause upset in all communities across the UK. Some of you or members of your community may have concerns about how this may affect local relationships and even worry about reprisals against the wider Muslim community. Yesterday’s attack is an act of criminality by a small minority. It in no way reflects the views of the wider Muslim community. Greater Manchester Police will take robust action against any criminal behaviour, especially where crimes are motivated by hostility. As such this is a time for us to work closely together as partners and communities. Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams will work closely with you in order to provide reassurance during this difficult time. A criminal investigation is currently underway and is being led by colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service. MSNBC's leading liberal David Gregory broke D.C. law when he held in his hand a 30-round ammo clip on his 'Meet the Press' TV show. What saith the law? "A person guilty of this charge can be sentenced to a maximum fine of $1000 and/or up to a year imprisonment. D.C. Criminal Code 7-2506.01." I suppose, since gun laws only apply to regular people, Mr. Gregory gets a pass from D.C. police. Or, will he? I wanted to know, so I sent an email to the D.C. Police Department - mpdText: "Yesterday morning, 23 December 2012, MSNBC “Meet the Press” host David Gregory displayed a 30-round ammunition clip in violation of D.C. Criminal Code 7-2506.01. Does your department enforce the law for all persons within the geographical boundaries of Washington, D.C.? Are elite persons like David Gregory immune to prosecution? Please reply to this email or to my postal address below. Thank you in advance for a reply." Read more about this story via link below.

Message from the local Police: Dear Wick CAP members, As you will know, Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, became Police and Crime Commissioner for the capital in May 2012. A key part of the Mayor’s role is to produce a Police and Crime Plan, which sets out the crime reduction strategy for London for the next four years, and explains what the Metropolitan Police Service and other agencies should be doing to tackle crime in the capital. From 7 January 2013, MOPAC will be consulting with anyone who lives, travels or works in London. The final Police and Crime Plan will be published by April 2013. With your help, we want to produce a plan that will: Improve crime prevention in neighbourhoods; Hold the police to account for cutting crime and boosting public confidence, whilst giving Londoners better value for money; Ensure other agencies work better to deliver effective justice, better service for victims and improved resettlement to cut re-offending. The consultation runs from 7 January 2013 – 4 March 2 ...

David Hoar, a special constable for the Metropolitan Police Service, used the force’s database to access details about Paula Hanafin. He accessed her records more than 50 times between May and August 2010 and in one day he made 27 enquiries. Ms Hanafin claimed after accessing her contact details he would turn up at events she was attending. Hoar admitted using a computer with intent to secure unauthorised access at an earlier hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court in July. He was sentenced at the same court on November 5 to structured supervision for 14 days and a supervision requirement for 12 months stipulating he must be at a certain place at a certain time when required. He was also prohibited from contacting Ms Hanafin directly or indirectly by any means, including online social media.

Metropolitan Police have confirmed to Goal.com that they have dropped their investigation into complaints over alleged racist comments made by referee Mark Clattenburg. The official had come under scrutiny after Chelsea duo John Obi Mikel and Juan Mata both raised complaints following the Blues 3-2 Premier League defeat to Manchester United last month. However, Police have since stated that "without a victim and/or any evidence that any offence has been committed", there is no line enquiry that can be pursued. A statement from the Metropolitan Police reads: "An investigation was launched into alleged comments made during a football match between Chelsea FC and Manchester United FC at Stamford Bridge on 28 October 2012. "This follows on from a complaint received by the Metropolitan Police Service on 29 October. "Enquiries were made and no victims have come forward. "If the situation changes and a victim and/or evidence to support an allegation of a crime comes to police attentionthen further enquiries will ...

Mark Clattenburg: Police probe referee after Chelsea claims 30 October 12 15:26 The Metropolitan Police has started an investigation into alleged comments by referee Mark Clattenburg towards Chelsea players during Manchester United's 3-2 win on Sunday. A Football Association investigation, launched after a complaint by Chelsea, will continue. Chelsea accused Clattenburg of using "inappropriate language" including racial words towards two players. Neither Chelsea or the FA made the police complaint. Peter Herbert, the lawyer behind the potential black players' breakaway union, earlier revealed he made a written complaint to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). The Press Association reports that Clattenburg will formally deny the allegations. "The MPS has not received any complaint from either Chelsea Football Club or the Football Association," read a Metropolitan Police statement. "We continue to work in partnership with Chelsea and the Football Association in order to consider any allegation that is mad ...
NICK DAVIES Following the publication of Flat Earth News and a Guardian story co-authored by Davies claiming that News of the World journalists tapped private mobile phones to get stories, on 14 July 2009 Davies told the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee that the Metropolitan Police Service had done too little to investigate the claims. The Guardian coverage also led to calls from high-profile MPs for the dismissal of Andy Coulson, communications director for the Conservative Party. Critical reaction to Flat Earth News Flat Earth News was greeted in the London Review of Books on its publication as "a genuinely important book, one which is likely to change, permanently, the way anyone who reads it looks at the British newspaper industry". The LRB highlighted the analysis showing that 60% of the content of UK papers was based mainly on wire copy or press releases, while only 12% are original stories and only 12% of stories showed evidence that the central statement had been corroborated (see Churnal ...

Happy birthday to the Metropolitan Police Service - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
September 29, 1829. On this date the Metropolitan Police Service of greater London was founded. You may know it from its other moniker, Scotland Yard. That nickname comes from the street of the same name that runs behind the original MPS building. Besides being the territorial police force they are responsible for the safety of the Royal Family and high ranking British government officials. Today they employ over 40,000 police officers serving 7.4 million people in an area slightly over 600 square miles. Scotland Yard is arguably the most famous local police department in the world, most likely due to its role in literature, movies and television.
