I'm watching this documentary on voice actors and it said that Mel Blanc got into a car accident and was comatose for about two weeks. His doctor would try to wake him up by clapping his hands and saying to Mel, "Mel. Can you hear me, Mel?" And Mel wouldn't respond, which is to be expected. Then, while Looney Tunes was on TV, his doctor tried the same thing except used Mel's characters instead. He said "Bugs. Can you hear me, Bugs?" and Mel would respond, in Bugs' voice, "eh what's up, doc?" and he eventually woke from his coma through this method. That's crazy, yo.

On Robin Williams: There are comedic greats, those who can recite well-written lines, their own or screenwriters, but some transcend such limits to become true geniuses. They are those whose improvisational giftedness can spin humor, irony and in Williams' case, pastiche, out of the subconscious, and most wondrous, do it in real time. A modern era list of such gifted individuals is incredibly short, with names like Jonathan Winters, Herbie Hancock, Andrea Martin, Eric Clapton and Mel Blanc, however any such list must of necessity include Robin Williams. We may never know what drove his personal demons, but we are saddened that he wasn't able to vanquish them, and in the end, we all are poorer.
Burbank, CA (CNN) Foghorn J. Leghorn found dead today. Foghorn J. Leghorn, 67, was an American character that appears in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. Pictures. He was created by Robert McKimson, and starred in 28 cartoons between 1946 and 1963 in the Golden Age of American animation. All 28 of these cartoons were directed by McKimson. He was a large animated chicken that delighted his audience for decades. The legendary Mel Blanc was tasked with perfecting the deep South, somewhat stuterred accent that Mr Leghorn was known for based on a character from a 1930s radio character simply known as the sheriff. According to inside sources, thousands are expected to attend the funeral service of what many of them called, the most respected and best loved for his genuine concern of others more than himself. That same source also revealed that immediately following the service, the decedent will be served deep fried along with numerous side dishes.

I have a huge respect for voice actors, the ability to inject so much personality into a character by just using your voice is something that I find very very impressive. It would be my personal choice of acting if I ever was able to actually do it. I just sadly don't have the voice for it. However I have always wanted to meet many of these people who are able to do something I find so commendable. I've already met some greats at this years DCC (Jim Cummings, Jennifer Hale, Veronica Taylor and more) but there are still many that I would love to meet and talk to. So in no particular order here are eleven voice actors I would love to meet (but only the ones still living, sorry Mel Blanc): Grey Delisle Rob Paulson Frank Welker Kevin Michael Richardson John DiMaggio Billy West Phil Lamarr Tress MacNeil Tara Strong Steve Blum Clancy Brown The big wild card for me is Mark Hamill since he's known both for acting and for voice acting but if I could include him he would definitely be one of the essential people I ...

Charles Dawson "Daws" Butler (November 16, 1916 – May 18, 1988) was a voice actor originally from Toledo, Ohio. He worked mostly for the Hanna-Barbera animation production company and originated the voices of many familiar animated cartoon characters, including Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, and Huckleberry Hound. Daws Butler was born on November 16, 1916 in Toledo, Ohio, the only child of Ruth Butler and Charles Allen Butler. The family later moved from Ohio to Oak Park, Illinois, where Butler got interested in impersonating people.[1] In 1934, the future voice master started as an impressionist, entering multiple amateur contests and winning most of them. He had entered them, not with the intention of showing his talent but as a personal challenge to overcome his shyness, with success. Nonetheless, Butler won professional engagements at vaudeville theaters. Later he teamed up with fellow performers, Jack Lavin and Willard Ovitz to form the comedy trio The Three Short Waves. The team played ...

I liked Richard Corliss's description of Mel Blanc as "The man of 1000 voices, all of them the same," because it's not unfair.
I looked it up: the line on the Jack Benny Show, read by Mel Blanc, in 1945 and way beyond, went like this: leaving on track 5 for Anaheim, Azusa and Cuc.amonga. Other than the funny way this was pronounced, it was also hilarious because these cities were not on the same line. The 3 cities eventually declared him Honorary Mayor.

Hello Friends, Welcome to another exciting Fun Fact Friday! In 1939, Mel Blanc was hired, by Disney, to provide the voice of Gideon the Cat, assistant to J. Worthington Foulfellow in "Pinocchio." These would be the two characters that would lead the little wooden boy astray. The script, as originally written, gave Gideon plenty of dialogue, and it was a big break for Blanc, who was known, primarily at the time, for his supporting work on Jack Benny's radio show. Somewhere during the editing process, it was decided the Gideon would be more effective as a mute character, like Dopey in "Snow White" or Harpo Marx. As a result, all of Blanc's dialogue was cut from the final film, with the exception of a hiccup. If you listen carefully, you can hear the hiccup three times in "Pinocchio" and it is, strangely, unmistakeably Mel Blanc's voice. Blanc was still paid full salary, of course, for his voice over work on "Pinocchio" and he holds the record to this very day for most money paid for the fewest words spoken ...
so,theres another one behind that one saying "move over"ur milking it,what a nim-cow-poop,what a maron!! thats from my saturday cartoons,Looney Tunes,Mel Blanc,I can remember that, just cant remember the important stuff!!
NOTE TO MYSELF: reach a certain age and realize you've been in Memphis, off and on, for thirty years, and it comes as a shock to think you've been considered one of the “old guard” voice performers for a couple of decades. ...more surprising, though, is that for unfathomable reasons, the production houses and ad agencies that used to rely on you for their character voices and some on-camera nonsense seem to think you're...what? Dead? ...oh, sure, you don't do twenty-year-old ingenue voices now...but the skills are still very much there. The natural voice range has shifted toward Sam Elliott, but you can still pull off most of the Mel Blanc cartoon voices, so the pipes are working okay. ...maybe you need to get nose-to-nose with some of the new faces, foist off some of your business cards, make yourself known to the newer generation of writers and producers. ...yeah. Good plan. You should do that. After all, no one is gonna hire you for a voiceover unless they know you're around...and as availab ...

I want to visit Mel Blanc's gravesite for a lot of reasons, but I'd be lying if I said one of them wasn't to get a new profile picture.

Mel Blanc, voice of Bugs Bunny, was born 106 years ago today in Pismo Beach, or Rancho Cucamonga, or possibly Albekoiky.
As an aspiring Voice Actor I would be an ingrate if I didn't think of today as a Holiday. Because today, the Original Voice Actor, the Man of 1000 Voices, the Great, Mel Blanc would have been 106. Most people today wouldn't know him by his real name, but rather the names of, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweedy Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, and so many more. All of these were the same man. The first Voice Actor to ever receive on screen credit for his performances Mel Blanc is with out a doubt the Father of a profession I hope to one day call my own. Probably my favorite story about Blac is that, in 1961 he was in a horrible car wreck that ended up putting him in a coma. Unresponsive for weeks, the Doctors had tried everything they could to bring him out of it. When they had almost given up hope, the Doctor said to Mel one day "Bugs, hello Bugs, are you in there." To which the Comatose Blac responded "Yea Doc, what's up?" The doctors continued this until he made a full ...
Today's either/or celebrates the life of the incomparable Mel Blanc. He voiced hundreds of unforgettable we ask...either Yosemite Sam, OR Foghorn Leghorn? Gary goes with that little guy with the big guns, Yosemite Sam. Cindy and Andrew both chose that laid back rooster, Foghorn Leghorn. What do YOU say?

The voice actor for Bugs Bunny once went into a coma, and would respond in character! Mel Blanc was the voice of nearly every major Warner’s Brother cartoon character including Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and of course Bugs Bunny. An automobile accident once left Blancs in a coma. Doctors tried unsuccessfully to make him talk until one doctor who was a fan of his work tried; “Bugs, Bugs Bunny? Are you there?” to which Blanc replied “What’s up, Doc?” in Bugs Bunny’s voice. The doctors then began to experiment with several others of his characters and Mel responded similarly. Eventually, the Doctors managed to lead him out of the coma by systematically going through characters until they asked for him. He survived his scare with the car crash in 1962, and lived until 1989, shortly after turning 81. His headstone reads “That’s All Folks!” Mel Blanc was, ironically, allergic to carrots. So much so, that whenever he had to act as Bugs Bunny chewing one, he would record those clips LAST. The soun ...
After watching so many animes, and watching Mel Blanc's life story, I'm pursuing my dreams ☺️
Hilarious and Mel Blanc was a genius! From 'Of Mice and Men' of course...
I got to see something yesterday that brought back some laughs. It was the NFL's Football Follies, with Mel Blanc providing the Looney Tunes voices to all the plays and halftime activity that didn't go quite as planned. Still hilarious!
Mel Blanc had a life-long smoking habit of a pack a day from the age of 8. sheesh.
There are so many voice actors I adore. Mel Blanc, Tara Strong, Steve Blum, Seth MacFarlane, Tom Kenny. I just love it lol
Paying homage to one of the greatest voice actors in cartoon history. MR. PAUL FREES. Mel Blanc was the man of 1000 voices, but Paul Frees was probably the man of 999 voices.
Mel Blanc was and will always be the best voice actor ever...
Mel Blanc wasn't just a pretty voice. Here he is being fantastic in an old Jack Benny sketch.
Like, he'll be talking to Saint Peter or whoever, and Mel Blanc and Howard Cosell and Wolfman Jack will all be there, smiling.
Did you know? During Franklin Roosevelt's famous radio fireside chats of the 1930s, the voice of the president was provided by Mel Blanc.
I heard a Jack Benny reference during the Radio Network broadcast 2day. It had nothing to do w/the late, great Mel Blanc though.
This has nothing to do with the picture and text of this panel, it has to do with Bugs, Daffy, Porky, and all the other Warner Bros characters. I woke up about 6:00 a.m. a few days ago and there was a Warner Bros cartoon on. I felt as if I was in the "Bizarro World". Nobody looked like anybody, nobody sounded like anybody, and they weren't funny! I haven't seen many cartoons in the last 10 years or so, but I would imagine it has everything to do with Mel Blanc's passing. If Warner Bros couldn't find someone to mimic those exact voices, and a cartoonist to draw those exact figures, and a writer who is clever.they should have shut the whole damned thing down.
Random fact of the day... If you ever have sat and wondered "Who has acted more then any actor in the history of acting? if you just count main characters and live action movies. John wayne would lead but if you include all voiceovers/cartoons...The man behind Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig had more movie actor credits to his name than anyone. Mel Blanc performed in 709 films, not including over 100 TV movies and video productions. He also had 81 uncredited voice parts in films. just random fact of the day =] I know some of my friends enjoy hearing random facts from me in the bar.
Today's Floppy cartoon was released in November 1946, written by Tedd Pierce & Michael Maltese, directed by Friz Freleng, all voices by Mel Blanc. Fun facts: This was the very first cartoon broadcast on the Cartoon Network when it went on the air on October 1, 1992. This short is a follow-up of sorts to Freleng's 1941 Academy Award-nominated short "Rhapsody in Rivets", which also featured "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2" by Franz Liszt. There was--and is, to this day--a mysterious and unresolved controversy regarding this cartoon and MGM's Tom & Jerry cartoon "The Cat Concerto" (released April 1947). Both shorts started production in 1946, both used the same music, had many of the same gags, and both had nearly identical plots. Even the stage in both cartoons looks strikingly similar. And when two studios release nearly identical films within months of each other, both studios instantly and loudly began accusing the other of plagiarism. One theory for how both studios fell upon the same story was the possibili ...
It's just weird that Mel Blanc has a voice credit for Dino in the 2000 release of Flintstones Viva Rock Vegas, but he died 11 years earlier!
