Sadio Mané (Senegal) Sadio Mane was plying his trade in Austria before the teams in the English Premiership started showing interest in him. The Senegalese made a move to high flying Southampton at the start of this season for a fee around €15 million and that works out too to about R203 million. 3. Aymen Abdennour (Tunisia) The Tunisian centre-back moved from Toulouse back AS Monaco for a fee around €13 million. The 25-year-old has bounced between the two clubs for the last three seasons. United's season got off to a disappointing start, as Swansea City won 2-1 at Old Trafford to hand new manager Louis Van Gaal a defeat in his first Premier League game in charge. There were plenty of problems in the patchwork Red Devils starting XI, but the defence remains a huge concern given that youngster Tyler Blackett was forced to start the game after injury to Jonny Evans. Alongside Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Michael Keane, Blackett is one of just five centre backs in the United squad - and given that Van Gaal is determined to use the 3-4-1-2 system that served him so well with the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil this summer, more central defenders are certainly needed. Sporting Lisbon's Marcos Rojo remains a key target as a potential left sided centre back after the collapse of United's bid for ex- Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, but one world class centre back is needed too. A deal for Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels looks all but impossible, leaving Roma's Mehdi Benatia as t ...

FOOTBALL Chelsea ready £30m bid for Man Utd target Mehdi Benatia CHELSEA are ready to make a £30million bid for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia. With less than a week to go before Chelsea’s opening Premier League game, away to Burnley on Monday night, Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his defence with a move for the Moroccan centre-back. Benatia, 27, is also being chased by Manchester United but Chelsea are in the driving seat, with inquiries already having been made. They have switched their attention to Benatia because Real Madrid have indicated so far that French defender Raphael Varane is not for sale and with another target, Atletico Madrid star Joao Miranda, opting to stay in Spain. Mourinho has still not replaced Brazilian David Luiz, sold to Paris Saint Germain this summer for £50m and he believes that, even though he has Branislav Ivanovic and French youngster Kurt Zouma who could both fill in at centre-back if John Terry or Gary Cahill are injured, he still needs extra cover. If they push throu ...

As we are getting to the end of the Summer Transfer, I will like to voice out this my suggestion once again. I think we(Chelsea) don't have to look at how much has already be spent on the transfer window. What we need to think is how to get the best and the quality players that can give out their best output. It would be easy at all if we should close our eyes, allowing Louis VG to make transfer on: Arturo Vidal, Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria and Roma's Mehdi Benatia. This will not be easy at all. I think Chelsea should try to hajack 1/2 of this 3 players. Then Petter for Sami Khedira or Verane. It will be very good if we should have Same and Verane, Benatia, etc. Obi should be sold. Torres play good but both him and even Hazard's performances are not encouraging at all, especially Hazard. Andre Schurrle perform really good and I think if Torres to swap with Miranda of Atletico, it will help than Andre, though he Torres play good. We have to consider things so carefully, because already MU is having quality ...

GOOD MORNING CHELSEA FAMILY Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claimed on Tuesday that Chelsea had sent an agent to talk to Serie A Club AS Roma about a possible summer transfer. The famous pink Italian newspaper claim that Jose Mourinho's Chelsea have thrown their hat into the ring for much wanted defender Mehdi Benatia. Manchester City were linked with a move for the defender for some weeks and reportedly made a bid for him, having it refused, Gazzetta say the same has happened with Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich who they claim has offered €33m. To make matters more complicated they also say that after having their first bid refused, Manchester City have returned with €38m. Roma, according to the newspaper, still don't want to sell but that's becoming hard to believe, especially given that the player himself has made it clear he's not overly keen on staying. I keep reading stories saying City are likely to miss out on Mehdi Benatia and Eliaquim Mangala.GOOD!, I hope we do, we don't need either of them, there is a young lad called Karim Rekik who happens to be a Full Holland International and Matija Nastasic who spent last season injured, they will be back next season, matter of fact, I cannot really think of anyone other than one midfield player we actually NEED.would like a Marco Reus, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Angel Di Maria or Isco type to be snapped up for next season and leave it at that. The biggest worry for City this season and the thing they definately need to get sorted and start shaping themselves doing it, is getting contracts signed by existing players, we have got Boyata signed up for another 2 seasons, but the top players like Joe Hart, Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri, Aleksander Kolarov, James Milner and Micah Richards for me should be given new deals as a matter of urgency, and especially when 3 of them are not in Brazil, there is no reason why ...

Less essential is a RB but that is also starting to become essential because I can't take another year of Smalling filling in. 2 CM's should be targeted at least as well as at least 1 W. A ST, for me, is not essential and we shouldn't waste £50M on Cavani when there are other positions that DESPERATELY need addressing. Your thoughts?

Reports in the British press are claiming that David Moyes has issued a 7-man transfer objective list for this summer, including: Dejan Lovren, Mehdi Benatia, Luke Shaw, Toni Kroos, William Carvalho and Juventus duo Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba
The Guardian reckons that Manchester United will make a summer bid for the brilliant Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic. They are also looking at replacing Anders Lindegaard with Asmir Begovic, as the uselessness of their reserve keeper is precisely the reason they find themselves in such a pickle. They remain keen on Mehdi Benatia, the excellent Roma centre-back, and have also watched PSG’s Alex, for reasons unexplained. We agree that the Alex link is ridiculous. He is a decent player but, at 31, would surely not be on the Manchester United radar. As for Mehdi Benatia the Moroccan has had a great season at the heart of the Roma defence and, at 26, represents a much more realistic target for David Moyes and Manchester United.
Liverpool are planning a double swoop this summer with Roma’s Mehdi Benatia and Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic both priority signings.
Ill-tempered Roma-Inter draw Roma 0 - 0 Inter Stadio Olimpico There was a disallowed goal, penalty appeals and two potential video evidence incidents, but Roma-Inter ended goalless. There were over 25,000 seats locked down in the Curva Sud, Curva Nord and Distinti Sud as punishment for repeated anti-Neapolitan chants, which fell foul of rules on ‘territorial discrimination.’ The Giallorossi had won their last five League home games, but were without Francesco Totti, Douglas Maicon, Dodo and Federico Balzaretti. Hernanes was only fit for the Nerazzurri bench, but Mauro Icardi got his first start alongside Rodrigo Palacio. After two minutes Samir Handanovic punched away an Adem Ljajic free kick, then smothered a Gervinho volley on a Daniele De Rossi ball over the top. Ljajic turned Jonathan inside out only for his pass to flash across the face of goal with nobody able to tap in. Icardi volleyed wide, but claimed he was being dragged back by Mehdi Benatia. Inter are the only team without a penalty awarde ...
Line-Ups: Roma-Inter Roma host Inter tonight with Mattia Destro, Gervinho and Adem Ljajic facing Rodrigo Palacio and Mauro Icardi. It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 GMT. The Giallorossi are flying high in second place and will hope leaders Juventus slip up away to Milan on Sunday night. Francesco Totti, Douglas Maicon, Dodo and Federico Balzaretti are out of action, so former Inter youth product Destro takes on his old club. He is supported by Gervinho and Ljajic, while Radja Nainggolan gets the nod ahead of Miralem Pjanic in midfield and Alessio Romagnoli is at left-back. It’s reported Manchester United have sent scouts to the Olimpico this evening to view defender Mehdi Benatia. Inter’s only absentee is Cristian Chivu, but Hernanes starts from the bench as he is still not 100 per cent fit after a muscular problem. The ex-Lazio midfielder knows this stadium and Roma very well indeed, so will have some valuable advice for Coach Walter Mazzarri. Ricky Alvarez takes over from Hernanes in the ...

Antonio Conte felt Juventus should not have had their goal disallowed in a “very balanced” Coppa Italia defeat to Roma. Gervinho got the decisive strike with 11 minutes left on the clock in tonight’s quarter-final at the Stadio Olimpico. “I think it was a very balanced encounter, that Roma scored perhaps in the moment we looked to be taking control,” the Coach told Rai Sport. “Both sides played well and studied their opponents. I am satisfied with the performance of those players who usually don’t play as much. “It’s a shame, as we conceded a goal during our best moment of the game. Our tactical plan was to stay solid and try to hurt Roma. We were perhaps a bit too timid in the first half, but at the same time I didn’t see us suffer particularly at the back. “An incident was decisive in a one-off game and Roma scored, whereas our goal was disallowed.” There were two incidents that Juve complained about, as Mehdi Benatia was booked for a foul on Sebastian Giovinco when the Bianconer ...

Di Natale adds another jewel to his collection (FIFA.com) Friday 29 November 2013 Share The suspense is mounting in the FIFA Puskás Award stakes, with ten players in the running to succeed last year's winner Miroslav Stoch. Make sure to register your vote by selecting your preferred candidate on FIFA.com or www.francefootball.fr. FIFA.com now takes a closer look at each of the ten fantastic strikes in contention for the 2013 prize. Antonio Di Natale has racked up hundreds of goals during his long career, but if he had to pick out just one after he finally hangs up his boots, the Italian forward's stunning volley for Udinese against Chievo would surely be near the forefront of his mind. He signed this particular masterpiece in the 31st round of Serie A matches last season, when I Zebrette were battling for a European place. The 35-year-old got his team up and running with one of the easiest goals of his career, pouncing on an error by Christian Puggioni – but there was nothing the goalkeeper could do to ...

Top 5 Africans who won’t be heading to Brazil The 2014 World Cup in Brazil looks set to be one of the greatest assemblies of talent that history has ever witnessed. The globe’s two outstanding players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, will both be present, as will the glorious all-conquering Spanish side. A star- studded Brazilian team will bring their own collection of characters, notably Neymar, the world’s most-promising player. Africa will also be strongly represented. The continent’s champions, Nigeria, will look to make a strong showing; the Cote d’Ivoire’s Golden Generation receive one final chance to leave a lasting international legacy; and Ghana possess a midfield that would be the envy of almost any other nation in world football. Cameroon, not to be outdone, boast Samuel Eto’o. He is, in my opinion, Africa’s greatest player of all time. However, while the likes of Gareth Bale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be missing from a European point of view, a number of big-name African s ...
