Dear Friends: What are the lessons that we learn from history? They are many. Earlier this week, I had an opportunity to talk with Vince Leggett about the late James Baldwin who wrote an essay on Angela Davis entitled, "If They Come in the Morning". Vince conversation reminded me of the importance of sharing a very simple, yet, profound concept. For those too young to remember Angela Davis had been arrested and charged with murder. An international campaign was launched to "Free Angela". The NAACP, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Huey Newton, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, Reverend Ralph David Abernathy and countless others joined the successful effort to "Free Angela". If one goes back and read James Baldwin's essay, what you will discover is that his premise was that if we did not rally to save Angela, they would come for her in the morning and the rest of us in the evening. His exact quote was, "For, if they take you in the morning, they will be coming for us that evening". T ...

Her confidence lies not in her heart but in her bust all the way down to where the ego symbolism e.g.o. : stands for every guy/girl who runs around in “circles” from lust of her big butt… If your booty is the main thing that you’re relying on when it comes to getting things your way or some attention… Then you should literally walk through life backwards because it seems as if that’s how you’re thinking …. From the ground up is a start but what I want to know besides the big butt is are you smart… Cause that *** is just stupid, dumb… looking Like two midgets piggy back riding on some stilts at a carnival… And I am not saying that I am not amused…. Just wondering if you got Sojourner, Angela Davis, in that rhythm and some Maya Angelou.. Just to name a few to cort with these warriors and fallen soldiers that runs through my vein reviving their souls helping me become more than a man… But less than a God… You don’t complete me without me first acknowledging your gracious compli ...
On Wed night so much was going on that it was almost too much to contend with. I was so excited about the debate and the chance to attend a celebration at Virginia Tech honoring none other thanTonni Morrison. the event was sponsored by Dr. Maya Angelou, Dr. Nikki Giovanni and Dr. Joanne Gabbin. Participants included Rita Dove, Tim and Daphine Reed,Sonia Sanchez, Amiri Baraka to name a few. The greatest literary minds had come together to honor Mrs. Morrison. Just when I thought thea it could not get any better out steps India Aire and sang her heart out. As the crowd was trying to recover, the one and only Angela Davis came to the stage with over 3,ooo people giving her a standing ovation before she said anything. The rest is history. We rushed back to Dr. Monica Motley's (my baby) to watch the ending of the debate. Pre. Obama nailed it. Did anyone notice besides me, that Ann Romney looked like she was about to burst out in tears at any moment when the debate ended. My 88 year old mother(soon to be 89, 10 ...
I just had one of those days and evenings that we all DESERVE once in awhile (and probably more often than that!). What a fine time in Blacksburg -- dinner on Main Street (where it was warm enough to sit at an outside table), a walk across VaTech's campus -- and a mouth-dropping, awe-inspiring evening of seeing and hearing the likes of Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Angela Davis, violinist Akemi Takayama, singer India Arie - and about 20 other 'famous' folks -- all reading and celebrating Toni Morrison. Her profound gratitude and awe of the program, as well as her words at the end, had tears running down my face. And thank YOU, my fine pal, Lloyd K. Blevins, for one of those evenings that will forever be in the precious side of the memory bank!
~Tonite not only did I have the opportunity to work a Celebration for authur Toni Morrison but I got to sit and listen to Dr. Maya Angelou, Daphne Reed, Sonia Sanchez, Angela Davis, Nikki Giovanni and not to mention singer, song writer, India Arie!.OMG this was history in the make'n and I'm glad I was blessed enough to be apart of it.

What an incredible, powerful event tonight. No. NOT the debate. Just came from the Toni Morrison tribute put together by Nikki Giovanni at VT. A stage full of talent - Maya Angelou, Angela Davis, Rita Dove, Toi Derricotte, Mari Evans, Jericho Brown, India Arie, Sonia Sanchez, and on and on. QueenTakiyah Nur Amin, you shoulda been there. Many of your spiritual predecessors on stage together. Unbelievable and uplifting.

So what if Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Toni Morrison, Angela Davis, and IndiaArie are all speaking tonight, together at Virginia Tech. I bet this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity pales in comparison to the course in which I'll be sitting. I mean, whatever.
