The Canton Center Church cake auction was a huge success this morning despite the weather. The cakes the men and boys made were fabulous (and funny). Kudos to artist neighbor James Koplar for his rendition of Edvard Munch's "Scream" in frostening (in honor of what we all did yesterday morning when we saw our driveways). My friend Judy Allison-Briggs would have loved Matt LeGeyt's cake seen here. The bidding was strong and I believe it was our best auction yet for the youth mission trip this summer.

We decided today was an official "no-cook anything day". This is Matt and I's first Sunday off of cooking since we started Beyond Bacon's epic food photo shoots several months ago. The boys (adorably) took the news surprisingly well and we enjoyed watching them feel empowered to find their own food for breakfast. Who'd have thought?! Pitchers and catcher report tomorrow... As a baseball fan that triggers memories of other summers and great times in your life. My first thought is always of the 10 or so baseball seasons that I was lucky enough to coach. All the players, too many to name, that would show up around this time of year to give it their all. It's amazing to spend a few minutes looking at the pages of former players and where they are in life. I learned so much from them and also the dads that would coach. Coaches like Raymond Smith, David Bruce, Jim Pruitt, Russ Dyer, Michille Hyder(Tony), Ben Shiflett, Robin Hubier(Kevin), Billy Cook and some I've forgotten. Spending all those summers together taught me a lot about being a dad, watching those parents interact with their kids. It was obvious that the best gift that a parent could give their child was time. God has blessed me with the people he has placed in my life.

A few good NHL players remain during free agency that the Pens should look into: Kristian Huselius, Erik Christensen (a personal favorite), Cam Barker, Mike Knuble, and Samuel Pahlsson.
