LUNCH HOUR Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted that he and his Arsenal teammates are disappointed with the manner of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. The Gunners looked on course for three points as goals from Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud turned the game on its head after Philippe Coutinho's opener. However, Martin Skrtel powered home a 97th-minute header to *** a point for Brendan Rodgers's side. The North Londoners sit four points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham United in the Premier League table. *Talking point - is the result a fair outcome for both side or should one side rue missing out on picking the maximum point?
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers felt his players demonstrated the character necessary to revitalise their challenge for a top-four Premier League finish in their last-gasp 2-2 draw with Arsenal. After Philippe Coutinho's opener was swiftly cancelled out by Mathieu Debuchy in first-half stoppage time at Anfield on Sunday, Olivier Giroud struck in the 64th minute to set Arsenal up for an opportunistic victory. But having earlier required treatment for a head wound inflicted by Giroud that left him with a bandaged head and led to nine minutes of injury time, Martin Skrtel claimed an equaliser with an emphatic 97th-minute header in…
LATEST SPORTS UPDATE FROM AROUND THE WORLD. Arsenal could go into this weekend's Saturday Night Football game against Newcastle with just one centre-back available. Laurent Koscielny's ongoing Achilles problems mean he is unlikely to be fit, according to Arsene Wenger, and stand-in Nacho Monreal is still out with a foot injury. And with Calum Chambers suspended, Per Mertesacker is set to form a fourth new defensive pairing against Alan Pardew's in-form visitors, who made it seven wins from nine games when they ended Chelsea's unbeaten start to the season last weekend. Wenger said: "Our main problems are still defensively because Koscielny looks like he will not be quite ready, Monreal is not back and Chambers is suspended." Wenger will have to be creative: Mathieu Debuchy could be asked to move inside if his manager wants an experienced player in the middle, but the France right-back made his first appearance in three months in midweek. Arteta is also not fit enough to return to the side so we better hope ...

Yaya Sanogo was another player who got injured during Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund having suffered a hamstring injury. Wenger confirms that Arteta would be “out for a while.” "The injuries are difficult to take on the chin,” said Arteta. “We go into many games and we need as many as possible available. The injury situation is a problem because we have many games and we lost two players tonight. Arsenal To Beat Chelsea To Signing Of Championship Starlet Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings looks likely to move to the Premier League in the near future as Arsenal join the race for his signature, according to the Mirror . The 21-year-old has been impressing in the second tier of English football and has already attracted the likes of Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United. The Blues were believed to be leading the race for Mings having identified the Englishman as the ideal long-term successor to captain John Terry. However, Arsene Wenger is keen to beat his London rivals to the youngster as he looks to bolster his defence in the January transfer window. The Gunners started the 2014/15 season with only six recognised first team defenders and long-term injuries to Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny has reduced the squad to its bare bones. Wenger has been given £20m by the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium and would be willing to sanction half of that to land Mings. The 65-year-old ...

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has blamed Arsene Wenger's inability to make changes during key moments for Arsenal's defeat against Swansea City. The North London club took the lead early in the second half from Alexis Sanchez's goal. The Gunners were leading till the final quarter of the match before Gylfi Sigurdsson's brilliant free kick helped the Swans equalise. Arsenal were without the services of Laurent Koscielny and Mathieu Debuchy, who are on the sidelines with long-term injuries. Calum Chambers played in the right-back position, while left-back Nacho Monreal was partnering Per Mertesacker in the heart of the defence. Lack of physical presence helped Jefferson Montero to put in the cross for Bafetimbi Gomis to score the winner in the 78th minute. The former Liverpool defender believes Wenger could have changed his tactics and avoided another defeat. "I thought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a good game in terms of going forward for Arsenal but at half-time it was clear Chambers is having one of th ...

Arsene Wenger says he doesn't understand Arsenal's latest injury crisis with both captain Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey out of the upcoming games against Galatasaray and Chelsea. The pair picked up knocks in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Tottenham with Jack Wilshere also suffering a new ankle injury. Wenger says his medical team will be now be analysing the situation. "We have to really look at what happened," he said. "There's no logic as it's two players who were not involved in the week - no Arteta, not Ramsey - and they had quite a light week for them. We have to analyse what happened there. I don't understand." Calum Chambers, 19, looks likely to be used in midfield against Galatasaray in the Champions League to fill the void, but has been deputising for the injured Mathieu Debuchy at right-back and is one booking away from a suspension as well. "He's been excellent in every position. And from the first to the last minute he has an unbelievable engine. He gets forward and puts crosses in as well," Weng ...
Tottenham Hotspur-Arsenal Preview Arsenal are one of just two Premier League teams without a loss this season, yet manager Arsene Wenger still finds himself the subject of criticism. His players could help quieten the skeptics on Saturday when they welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates in the first North London derby of the season, with the Gunners hoping to win three straight Premier League matches over their rivals for the first time. Injuries have turned the Arsenal defence into a pressing issue, and Wenger's management of the situation has drawn ire from a large section of the supporters for leaving the squad lacking depth in defence after deadline day. Help could be on the way with defenders Per Mertesacker and Kieran Gibbs said to be returning from injury. The duo were available only as substitutes in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Southampton at the Emirates Stadium, which sent the Gunners (2-3-0) out of the League Cup. Fellow defender Mathieu Debuchy will be out for an estimated three months after unde ...

Tomas Rosicky, Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski could also feature, but Mathieu Debuchy is out for three months after undergoing ankle surgery. Manchester United want Angel Di Maria to convince Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the club next summer - after the Portuguese star told the Argentinean to do the same next August. END OF TRANSFER WINDOW : THE HAVE NOTS AND THE BOURGEOISIES. AFTER MATH PREVIEWS. Arsenal Land In Group Stage Alexis Sanchez’s first goal for Arsenal since his £35m move from Barcelona claimed the prize of a place in the Champions League group stage for the 17th successive season on a tense night at Emirates Stadium. The Chilean struck the goal that edged out Besiktas but Arsenal had to survive nervous moments – including playing the last 14 minutes with 10 men after Mathieu Debuchy was sent off – before winning this qualifier. And for manager Arsene Wenger, Sanchez’s strike ensured a rich reward on his expensive summer investment as Arsenal once again go into Thursday’s draw for the group phase. Besiktas were furious when Jack Wilshere’s first-half tackle on Ramon Motta in the area went unpunished while Arsenal missed chances of their own to ease the anxiety sweeping around the stadium in the closing stages. With Aaron Ramsey suspended, Wilshere was at the heart of Arsenal’s best work with an energetic display that put recent poor form behind him, while Sanchez demonstr ...

Premier League TEAM OF THE WEEK. GK - Allan McGregor, Hull City. Was kept busy all afternoon against newly promoted QPR, but helped earn his side all three points and keep a clean-sheet whilst also saving an admittedly tame penalty from Charlie Austin. RB - Mathieu Debuchy, Arsenal. A fine league debut for this right- back after completing his £12m summer move from Newcastle United and the France international suggested Bacary Sagna may not be missed after all. CB - James Chester, Hull City. A second Tigers player now and it was a great day for Steve Bruce's defence, keeping the waves of Hoops attacks at bay, whilst Chester also scored the winner for the Yorkshire side. CB - Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa. Having impressed at the 2014 World Cup with the Netherlands the Villa captain continued his fine form into his side's opener with Stoke City, keeping a lively Bojan quiet at the Britannia Stadium. LB - Aaron Crewsswell, West Ham United. It was a fine debut for this left- back as well and the former Ipswich Tow ...

Walcott out, Rooney & Van Persie up front: How the big six would line-up in a 3-5-2 Connor Jacksön With Louis van Gaal keen to use the formation with his Manchester United squad, Goal looks at how the Premier League's elite would look with the same system in place The 3-5-2 system is rapidly being adopted by more teams in the Premier League. Steve Bruce got Hull City into the top flight with the formation and stuck with it last season, Harry Redknapp is experimenting with it at QPR, while Louis van Gaal has introduced it to Manchester United and is in the process of getting new squad to follow his philosophy. ARSENAL With a wealth of options in midfield and a shortage in defence, Arsene Wenger would have a lot of unhappy players on the bench if he used a 3-5-2 for lengthy periods this season. The regular pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny would be joined by Calum Chambers, who has impressed at centre-back during pre-season. Mathieu Debuchy offers enough attacking threat on the right wing, w ...
Premier League: Team-by-team ARSENAL Manager: Arsene Wenger Last season: Fourth Major ins: Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy, David Ospina, Alexis Sanchez. Major outs: Nicklas Bendtner, Thomas Eisfeld, Lukasz Fabianski, Carl Jenkinson, Park-chu Young, Bacary Sagna, Carlos Vela, Thomas Vermaelen. Ben Coley's verdict: In finishing fourth last season, it's easy to conclude that Arsenal's suspension between those challenging for the title and those fighting it out for a Europa League spot continued. But there were very definite steps - and big ones, too - in the direction of once again becoming genuine title contenders. First and foremost was the signing of Mesut Ozil. Although the German international never quite produced the performances which had marked him out as one of the world's best midfielders, he unquestionably shifted the mood within the club and I've no doubt that Aaron Ramsey's incredible form had something to do with Ozil's arrival. Alongside that, Arsenal at last managed to keep hold of their sta ...
Their Community Shield clash against Manchester City will offer plenty more clues as to what we should expect from Arsenal in the coming season, but what did we learn from their final pre-season encounter? 1) Alexis Sanchez needs to take centre stage His first start since his £32million arrival from Barcelona saw the Chilean forward start from the right, looking to support Olivier Giroud. Busy, the 25-year-old showed glimpses of quality, his quick feet and speed extrapolating himself from tight areas on a number of occasions, while he also showed willingness to help Mathieu Debuchy. However, his 28 minute second-half showing as the side's central striker - following Giroud's substitution - looked a more mouthwatering prospect. With intelligent movement, Alexis worked the entire Monaco defence, while his pace allows him to both run in behind (a contrast to Giroud) or show to feet, from where he linked tidily with Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla in particular. Offering the Chilean freedom in forward areas - ...

Three of Arsenal’s four summer signings were on show during the 1-0 Emirates Cup defeat to Monaco. Mathieu Debuchy and Alexis Sanchez both made their first starts for the Gunners while Calum Chambers was retained at centre-back from Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Benfica, but in the end they were powerless to avoid defeat as Radamel Falcao sealed the win for the French side.

Wenger told several national newspapers on chamber capture "He can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in these three positions. "He hasn't played many games, no, but the English players on the market in England are very expensive and at the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is a player for the future." Chambers would act as a deputy to France international Mathieu Debuchy, a recent arrival from Newcastle, while Carl Jenkinson remains an alternative option at right-back for the North London club.

Football - Premier League Arsenal confirm signing of Colombia goalkeeper Ospina Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Colombia World Cup star David Ospina. In a statement on the club website, Arsenal confirmed that they had signed the player on a six-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Arsene Wenger told the official website: "David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia." He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us." Ospina is the third World Cup star to arrive at Arsenal this summer, joining Chile’s Alexis Sanchez and France’s Mathieu Debuchy, who left Barcelona and Newcastle United respectively. Wenger's side, who won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League last season, have also been linked with Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Calum Chambers, although a move for Real Madrid's Germany midfielder Sami Khedira appears to have stalled.
Arsenal working on FOURTH big-money signing… very controversial one.For the most part, when February strikes, the official Arsenal blip has caused the sides title challenge to come crumbling down after much positivity and optimism. Revitalising Plans With injuries galore hampering the Gunners progress, it has been suggested expletively to Arsène Wenger in the stands that he should spend some…money. However, with the record signing of Mesut Özil last summer revitalising the first-team squad, it seems as though the clubs hierarchy have changed their mind of the direction of which they must acquire players. This season has seen the management continue in the same vain, but even though Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina have joined, there is still a major gap within the team. Mind the gap The gap is not seen as a hole within the first 11, but missing ingredients in the squad to make sure the club can compete in all four competitions for the upcoming season. Time and time again, key first-t ...

arsenal are close to signing Southampton defender Calum Chambers for £16m, according to Sky sources. The England U21 international has already had a medical and is set to become Arsenal's second new right-back of the summer following the signing of Mathieu Debuchy. Chambers can also play at centre-half, where Arsene Wenger is looking to add depth following the departure of the versatile Bacary Sagna and ongoing Manchester United interest in Thomas Vermaelen. And if the deal goes through the 19-year- old will become the latest first-team player to leave Southampton this summer. Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw have all followed manager Mauricio Pochettino out of the club, while Dejan Lovren is expected to finalise a move to Liverpool imminently. Speaking after his side's friendly win over Bournemouth, new Saints boss Ronald Koeman told Sky Sports News: "Lovren said he is not in shape to play, but of course there is something underhand. We have to wait. "I expect everything. I know the possibilit ...
Arsenal Preparing £25m Transfer Swoop In Coming Days Gunners ready to make their move for Calum Chambers and Nani. Arsenal are ready to ramp up their summer transfer business once again, with manager Arsene Wenger now plotting a double swoop from Premier League rivals that could cost the Gunners a cool £25 million. Reports in recent days have linked Arsenal with a move for winger Nani from potential title rivals Manchester United, with the Metro suggesting that new United manager Louis van Gaal sees no place for the Portuguese in his new-look system and that a move to North London could be imminent. It now seems, however, that Nani could be joined at the Emirates Stadium by young Southampton right back Calum Chambers, who is being linked with a £16m move to the club in the coming days by the Daily Echo, the local paper on the South Coast. Chambers would initially offer cover to first choice right back Mathieu Debuchy, who has only signed for the Gunners from Newcastle United this summer, but would also ...
Arsenal are closing in on a £12million deal for Southampton right-back Calum Chambers. The highly-rated 19-year-old has only made 23 first team appearances for Southampton but Arsenal have seen enough to recognise his potential. Arsenal have already signed Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle for £10m but want another right-back after allowing Bacary Sagna to join Manchester City - while Carl Jenkinson will also be allowed to leave with West Ham interested.
Transfers among the great clubs in football... Clubs across the world are hard at work strengthening their squads as the new season draws ever closer, but which transfer has been the best of the summer so far? As ever, the Premier League's finest have been in the thick of the action. Arsenal have shown their new-found willingness to spend over the last 12 months and made headlines by bringing Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez to the club alongside Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy, who will replace Bacary Sagna at right-back. Arsene Wenger turned down the chance to raid Barca for Cesc Fabregas, who joined Chelsea instead. Jose Mourinho also brought intwo of Atletico Madrid's Liga winners - star striker Diego Costa and left-back Filipe Luis -as he looks to launch an assault on the Premier League title.Liverpool narrowly missed out on the crown last term but signalled their intent to remain at the top end of the table by signing Southampton's England duo Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert alongside Bayer Leverkusen s ...
Arsenal boss calmly brushes off Mourinho’s baiting Well done Arsene Wenger, for keeping calm and holding back from getting in to another war of words with Jose Mourinho. The Chelsea boss clearly sees Arsenal as one of his main rivals for the Premier League crown. He has even said as much himself. The not very special one was worried about the threat from the Gunners last season as well, as the last minute veto of our loan deal for Demba Ba showed, and he must be even more wary now that Arsenal have signed two top quality players in Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, with more soon to be on their way. So I was not surprised to see Mourinho take the first opportunity to have a go at Wenger and Arsenal, claiming that Cesc Fabregas never wanted to return to his former club because he preferred Chelsea. He also stuck his oar in to the Jack Wilshere debate after the England international was pictured smoking again during his summer break, even offering some helpful advice on how Wenger should deal with it. O ...
