Thierry Henry as manager . Dennis Bergkamp as assistant manager. Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Ray Parlour, Robert Pires and the rest as coaches!
Szczesny's red card is the 100th chalked up by an Arsenal player during the Arsene Wenger era, which began in 1996. Patrick Vieira tops the list with 10 dismissals, with Martin Keown in second with seven red cards and six players, Dennis Bergkamp, Gilles Grimandi, Laurent Koscielny, Ray Parlour, Emmanuel Petit and Robin Van Persie, sitting third with four sendings-off each. My take Statisticians.
'STILLNESS AND SPEED: DENNIS BERGKAMP'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY.' Anyone lucky enough to have watched Dennis Bergkamp grace a football pitch, regardless of where their allegiances lay, knew they were witnessing something special. His vision, control and awareness; his ability to read how the game would unfold seconds before anybody else -- the man was a genius. And anyone who is lucky enough to get their hands on his new book, regardless of where their allegiances lie, will be left thinking exactly the same thing. Stillness and Speed is a homage to his genius -- a piece of work that allows you to understand the creative process of one of the most creative footballers the game has ever seen. While there is plenty in this book for Arsenal fans to love and cherish -- be it old anecdotes, or an insight into the way Arsene Wenger works and how the club is run -- there is also plenty that any true football fan can take from this, as Bergkamp's love for the game in its purest form is simply so infectious. Why Arsenal are in decline... Arsenal FC are not even a shadow of the side they once were. Two to three times a week they are supposed to line up as a team, when in actuality they are closer to 11 individuals. They have no leaders. This season has merely confirmed that Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Robin Van Persie were all right to leave. Their performance last night was further proof, as if it was needed, of their shambolic decline. Usually when teams go out of a cup competition to a lower league underdog, they hammer the opposition. There are often some questionable refereeing decisions which go against them. The ball is cleared off the line, hits the post and the bar, but just won’t go in. There wasn’t enough of that against Bradford. Not one player, played like he wanted to progress into a cup semi-final. The likes of Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Martin Keown and Tony Adams would have given everything to try and prevent failure. Eight years ago this result would have been unthin ...
The two best teams I faced in my career were Juventus (1996-1999) and Arsenal (1997-2000). It isn’t so much the individual flair and skill that stands out, it’s the mental toughness. Think of the characters: Angelo Peruzzi, Ciro Ferrara, Paolo Montero, Antonio Conte, Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps, Alessandro Del Piero; David Seaman, Nigel Winterburn, Martin Keown, Tony Adams, Emmanuel Petit, Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp. You knew you would never break them mentally. If you have a core of characters like that, you win titles. -Gary Neville-
