Ramon and Janet Barreto. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A couple accused of leaving their severely injured 2-year-old daughter at a hospital and keeping their other adopted children in putrid conditions were arrested after a five-year manhunt, authorities said Wednesday. The search for Janet and Ramon Barreto began when they skipped bail in 2009 on manslaughter and child abuse charges. They were arrested Tuesday night after a tip led authorities to a shopping mall in Portland, Oregon. The couple left 2-year-old Ena Barreto at a northern Mississippi hospital in 2008, telling the medical staff she had fallen from a shopping cart, authorities said. The girl died after she was taken to a children's hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. The Barretos were held in the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland awaiting extradition to Mississippi. A Marshals spokesman didn't know whether they had an attorney. The Barretos' daughter Marainna Torres was convicted in Ena's death in 2010. At her trial, she said she feared her pa ...

A U.S. marshal shot and killed a Pacific Islander gang member Monday when the defendant tried to attack a witness with a pen inside the new federal courthouse in Salt Lake City. Siale Angilau, 25, a member of the Tongan Crip Gang, was shot several times in the chest about 9:25 a.m. MT after charging the witness in an "aggressive, threatening manner," the FBI said. He died several hours later later at a hospital. The witness, a Utah prison inmate, was testifying about the gang and how it worked. "During the trial this morning the defendant went after, engaged the witness stand, and when he engaged the witness at the witness stand, he was shot by the U.S. Marshals Service," said FBI spokesman Mark Dressen. "From what I understand, the defendant may have grabbed a pen or a pencil and charged the witness stand at that time." Angilau was on trial on racketeering charges in the courtroom of U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell. Along with a string of robberies and assaults of local store clerks, the 6-foot-3 ...
The RAND study, which was conducted for the U.S. Army’s Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute, recommended using the Marshals Service rather than the US Army’s Military Police as host for the SPFOR in order to avoid conflicts with the Posse Comitatus Act, which forbids (albeit in principle more than in practice) the domestic use of the military as a law enforcement body.
Rand Corporation Blueprint for Militarized “US Stability Police Force” Posted on Dec 21, 2009 in Police, Military, & War Source: Lew Rockwell/Rand Corp The Rand Corporation, one of the most fecund research arms of the Military-Industrial-Homeland Security Complex, has released a study entitled A Stability Police Force for the United States: Justification and Creating U.S. Capabilities. The SPFOR (to use the inevitable acronym) would be a “hybrid” military/law enforcement unit created within the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) for use “in a range of tasks such as crowd and riot control, special weapons and tactics (SWAT), and investigations of organized criminal groups” — both abroad, in UN-directed multilateral military operations, and at home, as dictated by the needs of the Regime. Initially as small as 2–6,000 personnel, the SPFOR’s size “could be increased by augmenting it with additional federal, state, or local police from the United States” as necessary. The RAND study, which was ...
Fountain Valley Massacre put St.Croix U.S.V.I. in the unwanted SPOLIGHT St. Croix and the Virgin Islands were changed forever on the afternoon of Sept. 6, 1972, when the clubhouse of the Rockefeller-owned Fountain Valley Golf Course was invaded by five masked men wielding shotguns, handguns and automatic weapons. Within a few minutes, eight people, including four tourists and two Rock Resort workers, lay dead, shot by the intruders, who then fled into the surrounding rainforest as suddenly as they had appeared. Eight more people, most employed by the golf course, were either shot at or wounded by the assailants. For years, even decades, to come, what happened on that day would be a blight on St. Croix's image as a vacation destination. Following by a day the slaying of Israeli athletes by Arab terrorists at the Olympic Games in Munich, the "Fountain Valley massacre," as it was quickly called, brought intense international media scrutiny to St. Croix as police, FBI and U.S. Marshals Service personnel initi ...

Mark Lunsford wants Pinellas County voters to know the real David Jolly. “For two weeks, I have watched the DCCC and Alex Sink lie about who David is and what type of work he did when he traveled to D.C. Well, enough is enough,” says Lunsford, who became a high-profile child advocate after the rape and murder of his daughter Jessica in 2005 by a serial predator. Jolly is Republican candidate for Florida’s 13th Congressional district to replace the late U.S. Rep. Bill Young, who passed away in October. He was also a lobbyist and served as Young’s General Counsel for nearly 20 years. In the March 11 CD 13 special election, Jolly faces Sink, former Democratic state CFO and 2010 gubernatorial candidate, and Libertarian candidate Lucas Overby. Law enforcement in the United States is primarily the responsibility of local police and sheriff's departments, with state police providing broader services. Federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Marshals Service have specialized duties.[300] At the federal level and in almost every state, jurisprudence operates on a common law system. State courts conduct most criminal trials; federal courts handle certain designated crimes as well as certain appeals from the state criminal courts. Plea bargaining in the United States is very common; the vast majority of criminal cases in the country are settled by plea bargain rather than jury trial.[301][302] Federal law prohibits a variety of drugs, although states sometimes pass laws in conflict with federal regulations.[citation needed]

Nationwide Sweep by U.S. Marshals Puts 345 Dangerous Sex Offenders Behind Bars: Today the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) concluded Operation Guardian, a three-year, national initiative specifically targeting the country’s most dangerous noncompliant sex offenders. Deputy Marshals and law enforcement partners arrested 345 individuals who had failed to register with state authorities as required by law. Marshals worked with state and local officials to identify specific non-registering fugitives based on their danger to the public and prior convictions for sex offenses. As of today, USMS investigators have located 427 offenders of 444 sought (or 96 percent of those targeted), including 82 individuals found outside the United States. These individuals represent more than 500 prior convictions for sexual offenses. “I’d like to thank each of the Deputy U.S. Marshals and state and local law enforcement officials who contributed to the suc . ...

Authorities said Cooper was carrying a handgun and fled when Apache County deputies identified themselves and tried to arrest Cooper on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and endangerment stemming from earlier disputes with local residents. Federal authorities reported that Cooper spent years trying to avoid capture on a 1998 arrest warrant for tax evasion and according to a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service, Cooper vowed "he would not be taken alive".[1] [edit] Works[edit] BooksCooper, Milton William (1991). The Weavers have disappeared down an Orwellian memory hole for most Americans. You see, their story doesn’t offer an occasion for waving flags and singing patriotic songs. In fact, despite the tragedy that befell the Weaver family, Randy Weaver is still vilified by major media and so-called liberals for his "crimes and strange beliefs." Those crimes and strange beliefs include distrust of your government. Randy Weaver had reason to distrust his government. In 1991, an agent of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) entrapped Weaver by hiring him to cut off the barrels of two shotguns illegally. Once Weaver was arrested, BATF tried to force him to inform on the Aryan Nation group, with which he was affiliated, but he refused. Weaver also refused to appear in court for the minor firearms charge. For the next 18 months, the U.S. Marshals Service spied on the Weavers’ isolated mountain cabin, where Randy lived with his wife Vicki, son Sammy (14), daughters Sara (16), Rachel (10), and Elis ...

A FRIEND SEND ME THIS ARTICLE. U.S. Marshals, too, were in harm's way for civil rights Read more: of Black History Month, it is appropriate to recognize the United States Marshals Service's involvement and contribution in events that impacted African Americans. As the oldest federal law enforcement agency in the United States, the Marshals Service has been heavily involved in many historic events. A major part of this history includes our involvement in the Civil Rights era, including enforcement of federal court orders and providing security to enforce federal laws and orders related to civil rights. After riots erupted over James Meredith's historic enrollment at Ole Miss in 1962, teams of deputies protected him 24 hours a day for an entire year. There are 314 million Americans, men, women and children living in the United States this morning. This year alone, DHS has purchased four rounds for each and every American. We don't know how much more ammo the DHS may have accumulated during the preceding 36 months of the Obama Administration. This enormous DHS stockpile supplements the ammunition already held by the US Armed Forces, the National Guard, hundreds of local and state police departments, plus other Federal law enforcement agencies such as the ATF, Secret Service, FBI, TSA and U.S. Marshals Service. Why did DHS purchase 28,000 tons of ammunition? Why did DHS purchase almost half a billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, banned by the Hague Convention of 1899 for use in international warfare, that is carefully designed to kill it intended targets? Americans have no good answers to these questions since the DHS is now refusing to respond to media inquires on the subject. Pull back the curtain of silence by asking your Congressmen and Senat ...

In addition to his sentence in federal prison, Fletcher was ordered to serve five months supervised release after his prison time. Before issuing his sentence, Young reviewed Fletcher's criminal history, which includes local convictions dating back to 1996. They include resisting law enforcement, battery, driving on a suspended license and dealing cocaine. Defense attorney Glenn Grampp asked Young to consider that the bulk of Fletcher's previous criminal history took place during a two-year period when he was 18 to 20 years old. "He has continued to testify against co-defendants in this case, and has expressed genuine remorse," Grampp said. Apologizes When it ...

I enlisted in the Navy in 1994 and suffered an asthma attack (which I lied about to enlist) during a swim qualification. I was crushed to know that my dream would never come true so I pursued the closest civilian route that I could take: law enforcement. I was a member of a SWAT unit for over 5 years and eventually became what I believe to be the best of the best, a Deputy United States Marshal. During my career as a law enforcement officer I have had the pleasure and what I consider, an honor to train with some of Adam's comrades. I grew up having recruitment posters of SeALs on my wall rather than sports figures and I now teach my children that these elite men are real heros and not some guy who can score 30 points in a basketball game.
