"Gravity" has been pulled from local theaters (pun intended), so I yesterday went to see "Lone Survivor," which I wanted to see anyway. The film is based on a book by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. Luttrell, a Houston native portrayed by Mark Wahlberg, was on a four-man Navy Seals team that, during a recon mission in Afghanistan, hit a snafu and had to turn back but faced complications (namely, enemy combatants) on the way back. The film documents the peril of the mission as well as the extraordinary mental and physical toughness Navy Seals possess. Well worth a look.

Here is a must read on the best movie I have seen in a very long time. Lone Survivor is awesome. Liberals be damned!! The truth is the truth. Biased Critics Attack 'Lone Survivor' Tuesday, 21 Jan 2014 02:50 PM By Rich Lowry The movie "Lone Survivor" didn't get any major Oscar nominations. If it had, perhaps it should have been nominated for Most Unlikely Politically Incorrect Picture of the Year. It's based on the true story of a mission in Afghanistan that goes disastrously wrong. A four-man team of Navy Seals hunting down a Taliban commander is stumbled upon by a couple of goatherds in the mountains of Kunar province. Deciding to let them go, even though it will compromise them, the SEALs are subsequently outnumbered in a fierce firefight. Three of them are killed, and a Chinook helicopter attempting to relieve them is downed, killing another 16 Americans. The only survivor is a SEAL named Marcus Luttrell, who wrote a book about the mission and is played by Mark Wahlberg. None of this is remotely con .. ...
Cinema 1 - Lone Survivor  showing at 4:15, 7:00 and 9:15. Web Site: Rated: R for strong bloody war violence and pervasive language. Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, Ali Suliman, Alexander Ludwig and Eric Bana Director: Peter BergScreenplay: Peter Berg Synopsis:Based on The New York Times bestselling true story of heroism, courage and survival, Lone Survivor tells the incredible tale of four Navy Seals on a covert mission to neutralize a high-level Al-Qaeda operative who are ambushed by the enemy in the mountains of Afghanistan.  Faced with an impossible moral decision, the small band is isolated from help and surrounded by a much larger force of Taliban ready for war.  As they confront unthinkable odds together, the four men find reserves of strength and resilience as they stay in the fight to the finish. Mark Wahlberg stars as Marcus Luttrell, the author of the first-person memoir that has become a motivational resource for its lessons on how the p ...
Lone Survivor is the best movie I've ever seen. Mark Wahlberg deserves a *** good award for playing Marcus Luttrell. Cried the whole movie! And honestly makes me respect those fighting for our country more than ever. Thanks for telling me about it Stacy!
REVIEW FROM ROLLING STONE: What to say about a war film whose outcome is evident in the title? In the case of Lone Survivor, you commend the outstanding job done by writer-Director Peter Berg in telling the remarkable true story recounted by Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell in his book of the same name. In 2005, medic and sniper Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg), Lt. Michael Murphy (Taylor Kitsch), gunner's mate Danny P. Dietz (Emile Hirsch) and sonar technician Matthew "Axe" Axelson (Ben Foster) were deployed to the Afghan mountains as a surveillance team for Operation Red Wings, a mission targeting Taliban commander Ahmad Shah (Yousuf Azami) and his fighters. The movie doesn't go much beyond cliché in establishing the camaraderie among these SEALs while in training. But once on duty, Berg (Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom) proves a virtuoso at showing how action defines character. And Wahlberg, Kitsch, Hirsch and Foster add to the impact. The story changes course when the four SEALs, hidden on the mountain slopes, ar ...
SUMMMARY  Mark Wahlberg stars as Navy Seal Marcus Luttrel in this action-drama based on an ill-fated real-life mission to bring down a Taliban boss. But the stakes are even higher when Luttrell and his unit are ambushed in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.   REVIEW The movie starts with a 3 minute documentary giving us a glimpse of the brutal training Navy Seal recruits go through, not just the physical but the mental abuse as well. The main focus is the brotherhood they form and the friendship that holds them together to make a stronger unit.   After this segment we watch as the bloody mangled body of (Mark Wahlberg’s) Marcus Luttrell is carried by a helicopter to a medical facility. It’s this coupled with the title that gives away the ending an indication of events that transpire latter on. Obviously this is group effort and we quickly meet the rest of the Seal team in Luttrell’s squad. Emile Hirsch's Dan Di ...
Went and saw Lone Survivor last night. An incredibly moving experience. What those men went thru is unfathomable for most of us to understand. I'm incredibly humbled and very thankful to know we have honor and integrity in our military men and women who serve and have served. So many of our pathetic politician pale in comparison! The courage it took for the people to produce this movie against the Hollywood liberal left needs to be rewarded. I recommend everyone see this movie. God bless Marcus Luttrell, and Mark Wahlberg for giving voice to those who have fallin.
Mark Wahlberg should not have been Marcus Luttrell. He's too short.
Lone Survivor: Released tomorrow, Mark Wahlberg stars in the film written by and based on the book by Marcus Luttrell about an operation in 2005 to remove a key Al Qaeda leader by any means necessary. This is an edge of the seat war thriller not to be missed. Check out the trailer -
Title: Lone Survivor (2013) Genre: Action | Biography | Drama Director: Peter Berg Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Eric Bana, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch Lone Survivor, the movie, is based on a (supposedly) true story. The source of that story is the book with the same title by Marcus Luttrell who was indeed the Lone Survivor of a four-man SEAL team in the mountains of Afghanistan. Endorsing this movie requires ignoring basic military protocols, suspending the laws of physics, and disregarding the capabilities of the human body. LOL. The beginning of the film actually attracts you very much but gradually as the film progresses you tend to question a few incident!! "Is it really possible to jump off the cliff twice without breaking any bones" is one question among them. For me the film could have been a better one if it had a flawless script. Yes I did not like the script nor the screenplay. This is the major drawback of the film. The director did well to guide his actors and in the narrations. It was fantastic work ...
***1/2 - Lone Survivor (3.5 out of 4 stars = very good) - That final enemy kill, towards the film's end, was the best moment of the entire film. It's the meaning behind it (and how Marcus Luttrell's life was saved) that made it so positively intense I nearly jumped out of my seat in amazement. I say this upfront because not only is this feature a dedication to those who lost their lives during the attempted mission to capture or kill Al Qaeda leader Ahmad Shahd, it's also about witnessing hope in the most unexpected places - especially if you've yet to read the autobiography from the Lone Survivor himself, Marcus Luttrell (played by Mark Wahlberg in the film). It's a fantastic story and its no wonder that our surviving soldier has dedicated many years in telling everyone his story. This was a project that writer/Director Peter Berg (my mother still remembers him as the actor from TV's CHICAGO HOPE) labored to make in just over five years. The shoot itself took only forty-two days. Berg, Wahlberg and actor ...

Mark Wahlberg on earning the respect of Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell
'Lone Survivor': Intense look at Navy Seals with Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch "Lone Survivor” is a monumental movie experience. Intense and unrelenting, it works as a heart-in-your-throat action thumper, a based-on-a-true-story war saga and a touching tale of honor and loyalty. But above all it is an elegy to the fallen -- in this case, members of Navy Seal Team 10. The film, directed by Peter Berg, unfolds in three parts. Part one is a mini-documentary, a fascinating glimpse at the tortures of Navy Seal training that runs over the opening credits. Part two, the bulk of the film itself, looks at the dilemma facing the SEALs in Afghanistan during Operation Red Wings in 2005. Dispatched to kill or capture Taliban leader Ahmad Shahd, the mission goes very wrong very quickly. As the title reveals, only one man made it out alive, Marcus Luttrell, who later co-wrote (with Patrick Robinson) the bestseller the film is based on. In all, 19 SEALs perished. The primary focus is on Luttrell, played by Mark Wahlb ...

The military action drama "Lone Survivor" was a hit at the box office during opening weekend, with a realistic adaptation of the survival of a Navy Seal trapped behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. The movie, which stars Actor Mark Wahlberg as Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, has a real-life connection to Central Florida. Thumbs up for Colonel Jeff Macrander!
The number one movie at the weekend box office was “Lone Survivor.” The true story of Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell and his unit’s deadly mission against the Taliban is shaping up to be the first big hit of the year, with a $40 million debut and an A-plus Cinemascore rating from viewers. The film so filled its star, Mark Wahlberg, with admiration for our military that he blasted fellow actors for whining about how hard it is to make movies about combat. It also once again illustrates an irrefutable truth that Hollywood repeatedly profits from, then forgets about what Americans want in a movie. Studios churn out countless left-wing, anti-American TV shows and movies that bomb. But even Variety noted last week that every so often, along will come something like “Lone Survivor” or the recent “Bible” TV miniseries, and it’s a giant hit. And it’s always a “surprise!” Another such movie coming later this month is “Gimme Shelter,” a story about a teenage mother based on true events, ...

Films like this give me the push to keep thanking and shaking the hands of the men and woman who serve in our armed forces. Thank you!

After Marc met Marcus Luttrell, he spoke so highly him for weeks on end. Now I know why. BTW, Ben Foster and Mark Wahlberg absolutely nailed this film. I see a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in Foster's future.
Lone Survivor...a team of seals (6) is sent out to rescue one of their own in a holdfast somewhere in Afghanistan. They are ambushed and, as the title indicates, only one of them survives. The team is discovered when a young sheep header spots them above the village/Taliban holdfast. Between them, the seals decided to let him go. He runs straight to the Taliban and alerts them of the soldiers' presence. The soldiers are surrounded while waiting for the rescue team. Still, they manage to hold their own against a slew of turban clad warriors. Director Peter Berg is no stranger to the war/action genre. He directed The Kingdom and Battleship; he began his career as an actor and still acts in as well as directs movies. Lone Survivor is the autobiography of Marcus Luttrell (Mark Wahlberg) and his team and what transpired during those crucial hours up until the rescue. Mark Wahlberg never disappoints. He and the other protagonists give a very convincing performance. You are with them on this journey; you feel th ...

If anyone saw the UFC Fights Saturday night you might have seen a short cage side interview promoting the movie Lone Survivor which will star Mark Wahlberg. The skinny guy with the baseball cap being interviewed was the movie director. The big dude next to him was Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell. You may have heard of a Crossfit workout known as The Murph. The Murph was named after Navy Seal Michael Patrick Murphy who was Marcus Luttrell's best friend. He was killed in Afghanistan along with two of the other four members of the recon team during Operation Red Wings in 2005. The only survivor being Marcus Luttrell. Murph was awarded the Nations highest honor, The Medal of Honor along with a Silver Star and Purple Heart for heroism beyond description. The movie "Lone Survivor" (based on book by same title) which even according to Luttrell is an accurate depiction of events comes out Jan 10th. Go see it. Next time you do a Murph do it with honor.
Marcus Luttrell, former Navy Seal and author of Lone Survivor was on Charlie Rose this morning with Mark Wahlberg and actor/movie Director Peter Berg...after watching and hearing this discussion, I want to see this movie.
Lone Survivor - The Movie (after the book by the same name) is due out January 10, 2014. Many of you who know me know I've read a lot of books, easily over 1,000. This book is one of my TOP 20 BOOKS for MILITARY HISTORY, patriotism, heroism and realism (which aside from religious and political books) is my 3rd most favored genre. The Author Marcus Luttrell consulted on the movie which features Mark Wahlberg as the lead. It undoubtedly is NOT for everyone but if you want a glimpse of the dedication and valor of our men and women who wear our country's uniform and have to deal with the moral ambiguity and Rules of Engagement (ROE) under which they decide to fight and sacrifice their lives and limbs, there is probably no finer example than the story that will try to be told by this movie. Do yourself a favor and get the book and read it, either before or after. I read it straight through in less than 24 hours and literally could not put it down until it was finished. Semper Fi! to those who serve in the be . ...
Hoorah! And Pushtanwali Hospitality I just saw “Lone Survivor.” Every time I see a film about the Navy Seals I am filled with awe and admiration. This is a classic non-stop, intense, combat, action-only war buddy movie and I loved it. Of course, I mourn the deaths of so many of the brave and extraordinarily fit fighting men of Seal Team 10 whose “Red Wings” 2005 mission to assassinate Taliban leader, Ahmed Shah, failed. I write “failed” but I do not mean that; rather, four men fought ferociously and honorably in a terrifying terrain, surrounded by hundreds of Taliban armed with rocket launchers, machine guns, Kalashnikovs, and knives used for be-heading. And eight more Seals and eight U.S. Army Special Operations aviators died in the attempt to rescue their brothers when their helicopter was shot down by RPG-7 rocket propelled grenade. The Lone Survivor, Marcus Luttrell, played by Mark Wahlberg, published an account of this mission and Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey decided to make a film about i ...
