Right now I am reading Mark Steyn's "After America" while the coffee brews in the morning and at bedtime, sociologist Rodney Stark's latest tome "How the West Won," which details why and how modernity came first in the West. Stark is especially good at debunking all those myths that govern what so many people think they know about the "Dark Ages" and the medieval period. I am waiting for Dean Koontz's latest novel to appear and mourn the loss last year of Vince Flynn, who was another of my favorite authors. I reread some Flannery O'Connor last fall and may pull one of Shusaku Endo's novels about medieval Japan off the shelf again, "Silence" and "The Samurai." .
"Abraham Lincoln, a predecessor of Barack Obama in both the White House and the Illinois legislature, hag eighteen months of formal education and became a soldier, a surveyor, postmaster, rail-splitter, tavern keeper, and self-taught prairie lawyer. Obama went to Occidental College, Columbia University, and Harvard Law School, and became a "community organizer." I'm not sure that's progress---and it's certainly not "sustainable." If he hadn't become president, his resume wouldn't be anybody's idea of a return on investment." ---Mark Steyn, After America
I am currently well into the second half of "After America" by Mark Steyn.

Two tales for you history, archeology and anthropology buffs. Watching Michael Wood's "In Search of the Trojan War" series and reading Mark Steyn's "After America". Both talk about changing civilizations, the latter a sobering look at current trends and where we are headed. Homer wrote about Troy, Mark Steyn's a bit closer to home.
"Europe’s economic crisis is a mere symptom of its existential crisis: What is life for? What gives it meaning? Post-Christian, post-nationalist, post-modern Europe has no answer to that question, and so it has 30-year-old students and 50-year-old retirees, and wonders why the small band of workers in between them can’t make the math add up." (Mark Steyn - After America: Get Ready for Armageddon)
It is beginning to look like some people, even media people are beginning to catch on, even Piers Morgan and even though he kind of misconstrued Schultz's response. The thing is, Schultz is now saying it is okay for the Admin to do what they did, but under the similar circumstances she accused the Bush Admin of lying. Well, okay the circumstances for the Bush Admin were no where near as distorted and off-base as the Obama Admin's comments. And besides, Schultz is lying, Hillary had the whole truth the whole time. They were merely trying to mischaracterize what happened in Benghazi because it is so close to the election. The foreign policy is a disaster and the Middle East is going to explode. See my previous post from Lara Logan. Also, I try to keep you up to date on new books, try this new one by Mark Steyn, "After American, Armagedon." Actually, I think it is "After America: Get Ready for Armagedon." This is interesting because I have just decided to revisit my study on Armagedon, Harmagedon in ...
Great article about Liberal Democratic double standards concerning God and Christian beliefs and their dismissal from the Democratic Parties platform and more specifically Obama's and Hillary Clintons unceasing praise for Allah, Mohammad and the 'Great' achievements of the Muslims and the Islamic world and civilization. What do you all think. Reposted from the Washington DC based Daily Caller. 'God got booed off stage at the Democratic National Convention ... But Allah -- apparently it's a whole different game' By: Jeff Poor on September 28, 2012 14:24 In his regular appearance on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Thursday, Mark Steyn, author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” noted what he said were absurdities in President Barack Obama’s address to the United Nations. Obama carved out new territory for a U.S. president during that speech when he said, “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.” “He also said, I believe, that the future belongs to those who ...

Mark Steyn's After America: Get Ready for Armageddon is one of the best books I've read in a long time. In fact, it was so good that there was no way I could do it justice in a single article. So, instead I'm going to do two articles. The first is the top 10 most disturbing quotations from After Am...
Have read aout the first 100 pages of Mark Steyn's "After America." He's a very funny guy, but also provides considerable substance. Good book so far. Not a happy book, though. Makes me glad I have fewer years to look forward to than back. The concept of a marxist state is not appealing,, but so many *** voting for freebies. Sound like the next big quiz show?

Since the departure of Ronald Reagan (Eureka College, Illinois), America, for the first time in its history, has lived under continuous rule by Ivy League—less a two-party than a two-school system: Yale (Bush I), Yale Law (Clinton), Harvard Business (Bush II), Harvard Law (Obama). - America will be spending more on debt interest than China, Britain, France, Russia, Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, India, Italy, South Korea, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, Turkey, and Israel spend on their militaries combined. - According to CBO projections, by 2055 interest payments on the debt will exceed federal revenues.10 From "After America: Get Ready for Armageddon" by Mark Steyn
